Supergirl S5 E18 Recap & After Show: "Oh My G-ds"

Supergirl S5 E18 Recap & After Show: "Oh My G-ds"

Host:  Tehran Von Ghasri - @iamtehran

On this weeks CW's SUPERGIRL - SEASON 5 - EPISODE 19 - SEASON FINALE - IMMORTAL KOMBAT - Brainy's betrayal is a real sacrifice, Alex becomes the superhero we deserve not the one we need, Kara hates being sidelined, Leviathan G-ds go Wild, and Kara and Lena team up but do they make up?

We being the episode with a clearly conflicted Brainy who is unwilling to let his friends die for the greater good, especially since the death of Supergirl and team seems unnecessary and like a Lex Luthor personal vendetta.  Brainy has been betraying his friends in order to stop Leviathan but is coming to the realization that Luthor may have other plans.  He meets up with his female Brainy counterpart (played by his real life sister Meaghan Rath) at the bar where she convinced him to go along with Lex Luthor's plan in the first place.  Brainy resolves to not let his friends die and decides to use a Braniac pod to capture the Levathan G-ds.  Inside the Leviathan ship we see there is a radiation field that disables and destroys any who attempt to enter without a shield.  Brainy has no such shield and puts himself at considerable life threatening risk to insert the miniature code to capture Leviathan.

Lex Luthor on the other hand does have such a pin, as he was extended one when Gemma invites him unto the Leviathan ship, which has a low tech elevator and seems to simply be an old fashioned casino.  Lex then enters the actual tech ship and after suffering for a few because of the radiation field is given a pin that protects him.  He is told by Gemma to keep it as he is one of Leviathan now.

Kara and Lena seemingly team up but Kara is reluctant to make up.  Lena has seen the error of her ways, but Kara reminds Lena she was not the only one hurt.  Lena has consistently hurt Kara ever since, by pretending to be Kara's friend, having Kara steal for Lena, Lena then stealing from Kara, and also trying to kill Kara with Kryptonite.  Kara states if Lena is looking for absolution, she will not find it from Kara.  However they must work together.  Lena works hard to make Kara another Kryptonite suit to protect her from Leviathan who is in possession of Kryptonite.  To get Kara to the lab is not an easy task either as Leviathan is searching for her.  Kara, used to flying, takes the bus while Jonn Jonnz and Mgann pose as her and fly off gaining the attention of Leviathan power monger Ramakhan, and newcomers Tezumak and Sela.  A battle occurs with Mgann being hit.  Nia All and Alex join the battle, Alex in her new tech suit designed by Jonn.

On the ship a failing Brainy is visited by Lex Luthor who states he knew Brainy would take this course of action.  He takes the capsule as it is part of his plan and hands it to his mother who has a seemingly sinister plot to develop that will form next season.  Nia has a dream in regards to Brainy's actions and says they need to go save him.

The cliffhanger is left at this point.  The season ended 3 episodes shy of what it was slated for, the cast and crew did the best with what time they had left.  All this and more on the Afterbuzz Aftershow.  Stay tuned.

Supergirl S5 E17 Recap & After Show: The Other Shoe

Supergirl S5 E17 Recap & After Show: The Other Shoe

On this weeks CW's SUPERGIRL - S5 - E18 - THE MISSING LINK - we begin with a disgruntled Brainy approaching Lex Luthor about his involvement in Lex's plans. After Lex's stunt with the 'sun eating monster' to gain access to the Fortress of Solitude and gain favor with Leviathan, Brainy is questioning Lex's plan and motives. They are also interested in the whereabouts of Ramakhan, especially considering Nia had a mini dream about him and Brainy. Kelly connects them with former military special service linguist and current National Library of Congress archivist Pete Andrews. Pete does some research and finds dates of disasters in history where the symbol has appeared. Kelly and William are also still investigating Obsidian Platinum. They voice more concerns to Andrea, in regards to the newly planned Obsidian Worldwide Unity Festival, the Obsidian version of Coachella on steroids online. A bad idea given all the bugs still in the programming. This has Lex written all over it. Andrea wants to hear no more about the bugs as she reaffirms she fixed the loophole herself personally. Not trusting her word, William and Kelly find out that it all connects to employee 873, who turns out to be none other than one Eve Tessmacher. When they tell Alex, she is not sure if Eve is connected to Lex in this world but given the past history is pretty sure something is afoot. On the Leviathan ship, Gemma has Ramakhan in chains because of his past failures. This alerts Supergirl, Nia, Jonn Jonnz, and Mgann (who he has been getting super close to). An epic fight ensues with Ramakhan using his power staff and causing quakes. They manage to capture him as the DEO arrives. Brainy uses his official capacity to take it from there. Brainy takes Ramakhan as prisoner and takes him back the DEO, refusing Nia and Supergirl access to the prisoner. In interrogation Brainy speaks to Ramakhan in Leviathan speak and proposes to be allowed to be let in the ship in exchange for Ramakhan to be let out as he has been working with Luthor. Ramakhan says why would he want to be let out when he has worked so hard to be let in. The staff, as Nia sees in another dream vision, is doing something sinister. Ramakhan breaks the chains and fights his way to the kryptonite which he takes, presumably to charge the weapon that was shown in the box. Supergirl and Nia are disappointed in Brainy and know they have been betrayed. Lena and Lex are at a prison where the inmates are being rehabilitated through the use of Obsidian technology. Lex lets out the monster as his fury shows in his true plan and Lena is appalled. We end with Lex destroying the prison and all the prisoners, Lena returning to Kara in hopes of an alliance to stop Lex and with Lex explaining to a shamed and guilty Brainy that his actions were part of the plan, as Lex receives the phone call with the invitation to the Leviathan ship. Seems Brainy isn't the only 12th level intellect on the planet. All this and more on todays Aftershow. Stay tuned.

Supergirl S5 E16 Recap & After Show: Sexy Lexi

Supergirl S5 E16 Recap & After Show: Sexy Lexi

On this weeks CW's SUPERGIRL - SEASON 5 - EPISODE 17 - DEUS LEX MACHINA - Mellisa Benoist (Supergirl) herself's directorial debut, we see Lex Luthor in all his glory. Teased all season with Lex Luthor's master plan and involvement since Crisis, we finally spill the tea on what has been Lex's master plan. Though between the long wait between episodes the confusing subplot heavy episode itself, it felt as if we had missed an episode in between.

We being the episode at the end with Lex Luthor having seemingly killed or murdered Margot, the administrative creepy old lady who was lurking around the bodies of those stuck in Obsidian Platinum. Margot is a mid level administrative in Leviathan. To Supergirl and Jon it seems as if finally Lex's true evil colors are showing, as they get closer they realize the people feel saved by Lex. Lex is a hero. Something he has been to the world in this newly created universe.

We are then taken to the beginning directly after the end of Crisis and finally get Lex Luthor's side of things. We revisit the family reunion Lex has with his mother, Lilian, explaining to her the collapse of the multiverse and in true Luthor fashion she takes it in stride, teaching him a lesson in moving on. The two conspire in regards to Leviathan, an organization Luthor seems unfamiliar with. They discuss all the ways Luthor must stop Leviathan and put aside his grudge and obsession with killing Kryptonians, mainly Superman and of course our antagonist Supergirl. Secondly they must reach out to team up with his sister Lena, who of course is so mistrustful of Lex that she killed him in a previous universe. Lex uses his new found world to convince Lena to be on the same side. He manipulates her with tasking her to be his partner in his plot to take down Leviathan. Lena, still furious with Kara/Supergirl for betraying her falls into Lex's plan. The plan involves getting Leviathan to partner up and trust Lex enough that he is able to board their impenetrable ship and take them down from the inside. To do so he will create a bug in Obsidian which we have seen previously with Richard Bates forcing users to be stuck inside.

In another part of Lex's plan, we have Leviathan assassin Eve Tessmacher, who has been working for Leviathan under duress as they have threatened her family. Lex reaches out a seemingly helpful hand to rescue her from her own conscious as Eve loathes being the Leviathan assassin. Lex explains to Eve his plan to take down Leviathan, to protect her, and in a move to relieve her conscious kills her current intended target for her. Through careful manipulative helpfulness, acts of seemingly caring, kindness, and protection, Lex manipulates Eve into helping him with information and acts to bring down Leviathan even going so far as to have Eve kill Jeremiah Danver's (Alex's father and Kara's guardian) under the guise that he is the one who murdered Eve's dad. Through this time Eve develops feelings for Lex, which he silently seems to reciprocate. At the last moment when Eve's tasks are done and she cooks dinner to celebrate with Lex and expresses her feelings, Lex turns the tables and explains that he now holds the threat of killing Eve's mother if she does not cooperate. He states in the other universe his feelings for her distracted him and he will never allow them to do so again. She is heartbroken and defeated.

We also see Lex Luthor manipulating Richard Bates, who we had previously seen Alex fight inside Obsidian for holding the man his wife was cyber cheating on him with. We see a usually bald Lex dawn a wig and play a concerned bartender in order to convince Richard to program the bug and take action against this man. We also see Lex give the idea to Brainy the only way to stop and the Q waves is by using Myriad. This was in an attempt to create conflict between Kara and Lena again as the two had a heart to heart moment in regards to the passing of Kara's father Jeremiah.

Down The Obsidian Hole - S5 E16 'Supergirl' Recap & Review

Down The Obsidian Hole - S5 E16 'Supergirl' Recap & Review

On this weeks CW's SUPERGIRL - SEASON 5 - EPISODE 16 - ALEX IN WONDERLAND - Alex learns her father has died, again.  Alex and her father have had their ups and downs in the past, especially in regards to the special treatment he gave Kara and the responsibilities he gave Alex.  Alex is having such a hard time dealing with the reality of the loss of her father she runs to the virtual reality of Obsidian Platinum.  She enters the world and the foreshadowed Supergirl Alex Icon comes into play as she enters the VR world as Supergirl.  A lot of Ready Player One role play in which VR reality becomes the person you want to be.  Enter the Inception aspect when Alex is unable to realize the VR world is only virtual and not actual.

William, the ever journalist, is trying to find Lex Luthor's real deal with Obsidian Platinum.  He goes to Kelly, who was giving Alex space realizes the bug that makes users unable to get out may still be real.  The start to unravel what may be the next storyline regarding Lex Luthor's real agenda with Obsidian Platinum.  We wonder if Andrea Rojas is in on the whole thing, however she seems not to be as she is just as concerned as Kelly.

We end with the mystery of the EMT Nurse and the hidden users as they phase out of our reality and enter what can be the new one.  Something is afoot as we discuss this and more on the AFTERBUZZ SUPERGIRL AFTERSHOW.

I Have a Dreamer - S5 E15 'Supergirl'

I Have a Dreamer - S5 E15 'Supergirl'

On this weeks CW's SUPERGIRL - SEASON 5 - EPISODE 15 - REALITY BYTES - Yvette, Nia Nal's roommate is attacked by a transphobic bigot set out on hurting Dreamer.  Yvette sets up an Upswingz account and as most people do exaggerates to get more attention.  She exaggerates her relationship with Dreamer which is the catalyst of the attack, fueled by Gregory Bauer's own hate, bigotry, and prejudice.  Yvette, who unbeknownst is roommates with Dreamer, is attacked and left with a message "The world doesn't want a trans superhero, so crawl back from the rock you came from or i'll keep attacking people like you."  I don't know where "Gregory" gets off knowing what the rest of us want, however Nia is not happy.  Kara and team do their best to calm her down.  She gives them 3 hours to figure it out or she will do it "her way".  Her way consists of her beating the crap out of Gregory, which he deserved, psychoanalyzing the psycho, and almost killing him (which he deserved as well - but Nia didn't thank goodness.)

Meanwhile Alex and Jonn are on the trail for Trevor who's brother is concerned he is a missing person.  We find Trevor had a virtual affair using Obsidian Platinum and the husband was not too happy.  He trapped Trevor in a loophole using his computer engineering knowledge and Trevor has cheated and cant get out.  Alex goes in, while Jonn follows the clues in the real world.  Thanks to Alex's strong will and Jonn's strong mind, Trevor is saved.  Kelly 'was a part of it too' as she played Felecity to Alex's arrow.

Finally we get the date we need but not the one we deserved as Kara goes on a date with William.  The date is semi anti-climactic as they play pool and Kara has to leave.  I am sure we will get more of this couple, the question is do we want more?

All this and more.  Stay tuned.

Computerlad, Lad No More - S5 E12

Computerlad, Lad No More - S5 E12

This week on CW’s Supergirl - Season 5 - Episode 12 - Back from the Future Part 2 - Toyman Win has uploaded himself into the DEO systems with the threat of the world being next, taking over DEO tech, and attacking the DEO itself.  The only solution is for “Computer Lad” Win to enter the computer as well and enter the resolution code from the inside. The only help he has is his criminally insane father who has also been entrapped into the mainframe. Win must take a ‘leap of faith’ and trust his father.

Meanwhile the DEO lead by the efforts of Alex Danvers, Brainy, and Supergirl are fighting all the tech around them.  From toy monkeys, to drones, to the eventual Lexosuits that come alive to attack them. Amazing and fun effects, matrix style fight scenes, and a Leeroy Jenkins war cry lead to some exciting fight scenes.  Also we get a confrontation between Alex and Brainy as Brainy is caught erasing the spyware Alex had uploaded as we know Brainy is secretly working for Lex.

On the Luthor front, Lena sees an opportunity to work her way into Andrea Rojas’ Obsidian Platinum but is unable to do so because of their past.  Big brother Lex to the rescue as he vets board member Gemme Cooper and gets her on board and therefore securing Obsidian and Luthor Corp’s cooperation.  Unbeknownst to all Gemma is a part of the very Leviathan Lex seems to be fighting against.

Finally things between Kara and William are heating up.  Starting with harmonizing karaoke, leading to a much anticipated date proposal, and ending with Kara rejecting William because she doesn't want to start a relationship with a lie.

All this an Mr. Mxyzptlk sighting at the very end.

ABOUT SUPERGIRL:

Supergirl is an upcoming American television series developed by writer/producers Greg Berlanti, Ali Adler, Sarah Shechter, and Andrew Kreisberg, set to air on CBS. It is based on the DC Comics character Supergirl (Kara Zor-El), created by Otto Binder and Al Plastino, and stars Melissa Benoistas the title character. Supergirl is a costumed superhero who is the biological cousin to Superman and one of the last surviving Kryptonians.

Kara Zor-El (Benoist) was sent to Earth from the doomed planet Krypton as a 13-year-old by her parents Zor-El (Robert Gant) and Alura Zor-El (Laura Benanti). Alura gave her instructions to protect her infant cousin Kal-El, and informed her that she, like her cousin, would have enormous powers under Earth's yellow sun.

En route to Earth, Kara's spacecraft was diverted by a shock wave from Krypton's explosion and forced into the Phantom Zone, where it stayed for 24 years. During this period, time stopped for Kara so, when the spacecraft eventually escaped the Phantom Zone, she still appeared to be a 13-year-old girl. By the time the spacecraft crash landed on Earth, Kal-El had grown up and become Superman. After helping her out of the craft, Superman took Kara to be adopted by his friends, the Danvers family. The main series begins more than a decade later when the now 24-year-old Kara is learning to embrace her powers after previously hiding them.

Kara hid her powers for more than a decade, believing that Earth didn't need another hero. However, she has to reveal her powers to thwart an unexpected disaster, setting her on her own journey of heroism as National City's protector.[2] Kara discovers that hundreds of the criminals her mother prosecuted as a judge on Krypton are hiding on Earth, including her mother's twin sister Astra (also played by Benanti) and Astra's husband Non (Chris Vance), who seek to rule the world. After briefly becoming suspicious of the true agenda of her boss, Hank Henshaw (David Harewood), she and her adoptive sister, Alex Danvers (Chyler Leigh), secretly discover that Henshaw is actually a benevolent alien refugee, J'onn J'onzz, who has resided on Earth for over fifty years after escaping a holocaust on his homeworld of Mars. J'onn infiltrated the DEO to reform the organization as well as to watch over both Alex and Kara in addition to guiding the latter in the use of her powers due to his experience with his own abilities. Kara is also being targeted by Earth's criminals as the result of her being related to Superman, and later on encounters an emerging community of metahumans and individuals from parallel universes. She is aided by a few close friends and family who guard her secrets--most notably her cousin's longtime friend, James Olsen(Mehcad Brooks)--which also serves as a major plot in high tech mogul Maxwell Lord's (Peter Facinelli) scheme to expose Kara's identity.
