Black Panther: Wakanda Forever
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever
Lots of questions about Namor and the Talokanil are answered in this podcast about Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. We also talk about mutants, Ironheart, Midnight Angels, Val & Ross, as well as the mid-credits scene. Show notes… Namor: In the comics, he rules Atlantis. In the movie, it’s much different. He is the ruler of Talokan and the Talokanil. https://marvel.fandom.com/wiki/Namor_McKenzie_(Earth-616) Namora: Namor’s cousin! The movie doesn’t make the relationship clear, and she doesn’t have the powers that she does in the comics. https://marvel.fandom.com/wiki/Aquaria_Neptunia_(Earth-616) Riri: IRON HEART! She’s new to the MCU but she’s been around in the comics for about 8 years, which is new for the comics. Lots of story potential with her, and she has connections to the Ten Rings. https://marvel.fandom.com/wiki/Riri_Williams_(Earth-616) Aneka: In the comics. It’s actually a pretty cool story. https://marvel.fandom.com/wiki/Aneka_(Earth-616) Midnight Angels: Not a lot to it. It’s special Wakandan battle armor used in the Doomwar. https://marvel.fandom.com/wiki/Midnight_Angel_Armor Everett Ross: We’ve talked about him before, and he has a long history of working with the Wakandans. Pretty good movie to comic translation here. https://marvel.fandom.com/wiki/Everett_Ross_(Earth-616) Val: A different character in the comics than the movies, but you should expect some nasty things to come from her, especially with the Thunderbolts movie coming up. https://marvel.fandom.com/wiki/Valentina_Allegra_de_Fontaine_(Earth-616) News you can abuse! DC vs. Marvel!
Jay tells us why DC has not been able to achieve Marvel’s success with movies so far despite their early start with super hero movies. We also talk about what James Gunn can do to improve their performances. Talk with us on Twitter. Show notes… It all started with 1989’s Batman! Warner Brothers views DC properties like cogs in a machine. Overall, DC heroes are different than Marvel heroes, which makes it difficult to build a franchise with them. With James Gunn’s leadership, things are going to change for DC movies. But it’s going to take time. News you can abuse! Wonder Man casting news. Wakanda Forever’s place in the MCU timeline. She-Hulk – Whose Show is This? (E9)
She-Hulk smashes the fourth wall in this episode and we’ve got thoughts about that! Talk with us on Twitter. Show notes. The opening was excellent throwback to The Incredible Hulk (1978). What adult lawyer immediately needs to move in with their parents when they lose their job? She-Hulk absolutely smashes the fourth wall half way through this episode. KEVIN is a Kevin Feige robot that reminds us of AUTO from WALL-E. Hulk’s son is named Skaar and it’s verrryyyy interesting that he’s in the MCU. News you can abuse! Big delays for big MCU projects. His first appearance was in, you guessed it, a Daredevil comic. Leap-Frog breaks his leg in #SheHulk as well as in the comics. Matt Murdock! “I’m here.” Of course, the Matt Murdock we see here is the Matt Murdock from the Daredevil Netflix series. Right? Right? The Sokovia Accords are repealed? How? When? News You Can Abuse! Talk with us on Twitter. Show notes Man-Bull: Uh, he’s a half man-half bull. And he’s battled Daredevil in the comics. El Aguila: Our boy here is a mutant. And the electrical discharge we saw in his sword is actually his mutant power. Saracen: No one has ever heard of this guy before. Like, ever. But he’s an ancient vampire in the comics in his few appearances. Porcupine: Uh, he’s a guy in a Porcupine suit. He’s battled Ant-Man and the Wasp and worked for Doctor Doom in his past. Wrecker: We’ve seen this guy before in the show. In the comics, he was actually a pretty sizable villain that has fought Thor many times. Mike was so right about Josh! 💉🧪👍🏼 News you can abuse! Asgardian Light Elves cannot shape shift but some of them are triple-jointed! Getting powers by a mafia hit gone wrong is a callback to She-Hulk’s origin story from the comics! The thugs that robbed an Asgardian construction worker and tried to get She-Hulk’s blood are the Wrecking Crew from the comics! Who is the Wrecking Crew’s boss? Could it be Samuel Sterns? Ms. Marvel – No Normal
Ms. Marvel – No Normal
Our guest drops some knowledge about Ms. Marvel’s origin story while we talk about the show’s series and finale. Jarvis has a special message for everyone at the end of this podcast, but he was wrong about Damage Control. Talk with us on Twitter and Reddit. Show notes In the comics Damage Control was originally owned by Tony Stark and Wilson Fisk! They also have associations with Doctor Doom, X-Men, and Hercules–some of which is going to come in handy in future MCU stories. Kamran’s powers in this episode are pretty similar to the shockwaves he creates in the comics while maintaining visuals that are similar to Kamala’s. Red Dagger’s outfit from the comics is clearly the basis for his look in Ms. Marvel. Captain Marvel is a human/Kree hybrid in the comics. Maybe the blue severed hand that Ms. Marvel’s bangle was taken from was a Kree hand.

Thor: Love and Thunder
Thor: Love and Thunder
Hear Jarvis complain about a good movie. Mike reveals an awesome thing about Thor’s goats from Norse mythology. Talk with us on Twitter and Reddit. Show notes Yes, Gorr the God-Butcher is from the comics. But he’s a bit different, and so is the sword that he used. Toothgrinder and Toothgnasher are from the comics and the Norse myths. Jane Foster has cancer: This is very accurate. In fact, how they handle the Mighty Thor is accurate to the comics, except it happens far, far too quickly. Fear not, True Believer! Jane Foster is still alive in the comics as Valkyrie. Omnipotent City: From the comics, seen in the God Butcher story line from 2012. There is an interpretation of Zeus in Marvel comics, but he has many different versions. As for his “Thunderbolt” weapon: no. That’s not a thing. Eternity is in the comics, but is nothing like the movie portrayed. Hercules and Thor have butted heads a ton of times, so this is nothing new, really. Hercules is an Avenger in the comics.

Hear about how the show is going to end from the Master of Creative Writing himself. Talk with us on Twitter and Reddit. Ms. Marvel – Seeing Red
Ms. Marvel – Seeing Red
We’ve got a great theory on what really happened to Kamala’s mother during the Partition of India. Talk with us on Twitter and Reddit. Show notes Red Daggers. There is just one Red Dagger in the comics. But, yep. Kareem is from the comics, and Jarvis thinks his outfit is pretty close to the original! There is talk in the episode about the “Noor” Dimension, but this isn’t in the comics. Yet, there are many, many dimensions in the comics. Some really big. Some tiny. I don’t think the bangle is one of the Quantum Bands, but it could be! And would be cool if it was. The show is giving people a history lesson, and we really appreciate it. News you can abuse! Ms. Marvel – Destined
Get the rundown on Kamala Khan, Kamran, Djinn, Bruno Carrelli, Dr. Eric Selvig, and more from the comics! Talk with us on Twitter and Reddit. Show notes Yes, there are "ClanDestined" in the comics. (ugh) And, yes, Djinns too. The Djinns of Islamic Mythology are way cooler. Ms. Marvel’s mask is called a Domino mask. Jarvis has questions about Damage Control and the Super-Human Registration Act. Ms. Marvel – Crushed
Get the rundown on Kamala Khan, Kamran, Bruno Carrelli, and more from the comics! Talk with us on Twitter and Reddit. Show notes This show is just jammed packed with stuff. Almost too much! But we do learn that Kamala’s powers could be with in, which gives some connections to the comic book “Inhumans” storyline. Kamran is from the comics, which may not be good for Kamala. The show introduces viewers to a whole host of information that, hopefully, everyone knows. But just in case you don’t: The Partition of India. The celebration of Eid Mubarak. News you can abuse! Ms. Marvel – Generation Why
Mike talks about how Edgar Wright was a clear directorial inspiration for this episode. Hear about Kamala Khan, Bruno Carrelli, Agent Clearly, and more! Talk with us on Twitter and Reddit. Show notes Ms. Marvel is here! The main themes of the show are true to the comics, but not her powers or how she got them. Yes, we need to talk about Bruno. (He’s from the comics) Kamala doesn’t have a magical band in the comics, but there is a history of magical bands. The Nega Bands are specific to Captain Marvel. But the Quantum Bands might be a more accurate translation. Agent Clearly is from the comics. (but just barely) News you can abuse! Are we getting a Thunderbolts movie? Ranking the men of the MCU
Jarvis has an eye for the handsome men of the MCU. In this episode, he lists out the top ten most handsome men of the MCU. Mike invited Veronica from the SJW Comic Book Club podcast to let us know where Jarvis got it wrong. Show notes… Paul Bettany wore a prosthetic butt in WandaVision. Benedict Cumberbatch at his most handsome in an SNL skit about toilets. News you can abuse! Watch the She-Hulk: Attorney at Law trailer with us as we comment on it. Yes! A new Daredevil series is in the works for Disney+! Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness - characters & stuff
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness - characters & stuff
We talk about the characters and stuff of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness! Show notes... Earth-616: This is the “main” universe for the Marvel stories. In “Multiverse of Madness, the MCU universe was referred to as 616, but that’s not really accurate.  America Chavez: An inter-dimensional explorer. Her powers are very similar as they are in the comics, and she’s further proof that the MCU is planning some “Young Avenger” team up. Gargantos: He’s just a big monster.  Darkhold: This book has played a lot of roles in Marvel comics, including stuff with the Midnight Sons. It’s odd that it was destroyed in the movie.  Book of the Vishanti: Another magic book from the comics, but lesser known.  Tommy and Billy: More evidence of an upcoming Young Avengers project. This is super complex in the comics, the twins being born from odd magic and deals with devils.  Mr. Fantastic: This is the first time we’ve had any reference of the Fantastic Four in the MCU. Reed is super smart and formed the Illuminati. Fans have been begging John Krasinski to play Reed Richards for years. Maria Rambeau as Captain Marvel: The Captain Marvel from the movie is sort of like the Monica Rambeau Captain Marvel from the comics. But, this was Maria, not Monica. And Maria had no super powers in the comics, except being a great mother to Monica, who would go on to be Captain Marvel in the comics.  Captain Carter: We’ve seen her in “What If” and now we get to see the live action version, played by Hayley Atwell! She was great, no matter how you slice it!  Professor X: Our first hint of the X-men in the MCU. Professor X was also a founding member of the Illuminati. Patrick Stewart played the Professor in several X-men movies. Will he play him more? Black Bolt: Another founding member of the Illuminati and has powers that will blow your mind!  Mount Wundagore: This is the mountain where Quicksilver and the Scarlett Witch were raised in the comics. And, well, other stuff happened here too.  Monsters in the Temple: Chthon created the Darkhold and he created creatures using the Darkhold, like the ones we saw.  Rintrah: A big cow-man with magic training, taught by Strange himself.  Clea: This was a huge reveal. Clea is Strange’s love interest. They married. Dr. Strange died. Clea took his place and is currently the Sorcerer Supreme in the Marvel comics 616 universe. She has direct ties to Dormammu. If you looked closely, Clea tore a hole in reality and the Dormammu universe art assets are on the other side.

Show notes Ammit does have a presence in the comics, but not as extreme as the show. No, Layla isn’t from the comics, but the super-hero character she represents is! The Scarlet Scarab! The actor, May Calamawy, spoke about how having an Egyptian super-hero is good for our society as a whole. But the Chicago roots and the Jewish heritage is comic accurate. Bushman isn't seen in the show, but he's from the comics too. Moon Knight's origin is accurate too. What If... Show notes… Followup: The Overvoid is a thing from the comics after all–and it’s basically Egyptian Asgard. Pretty fun that Alexander the Great is in this. I wish they spent time going over his life details. But, yes, Alexander of Macedon is from the comics! Taweret is a protective Egyptian goddess of fertility and birth. She is also known as the “Lady of Heaven” and the “Mistress of Pure Water.” Hathor assumed the form of Taweret when taking a protective role. News you can abuse! Talk with us on Twitter and Reddit. Show notes… More Marc Spector and Steven Grant action! It feels like Khonshu could be a hero or a villain, or is more complicated than we think. This could be a major issue in future episodes. Layla isn’t in the comics. But, there is someone similar. Kind of? Jarvis: “My thinking is that, because so much of Moon Knight is undefined, the MCU is taking some pretty heavy liberties.” The “Mr. Knight” outfit in the series is different than the comics. Moon Knight - The Goldfish Problem
Moon Knight - The Goldfish Problem
We talk about Moon Knight, episode 1, The Goldfish Problem and the things you missed if you don't read the comics. Hear about Steven Grant, Marc Spector, Arthur Harrow, Khonshu, Ammit, and more! Talk with us on Twitter and Reddit. Of all the different Marvel properties that Disney has made into live action, Moon Knight might be the least known for non-comic fans. And even comic fans might not know much. But, it is comic book accurate that Moon Knight has dissociative personality disorder and that he gained his powers from the Egyptian god, Khonsu. However, Steven Grant is rich in the comics. Marc Spector is a mercenary. And there are other personalities that we'll probably see later in the series. In the comics, Marc / Steven's relationship with Khonsu is antagonistic, which we saw some of here. There are comics and stories about Moon Knight, but they are not as developed as some of the other series we've seen. A lot of what we'll watch with Moon Knight will be new. The villain, Arthur Harrow, is also in the comics, but he's barely anything to mention. NEWS YOU CAN ABUSE! Marvel/Disney updated the MCU Timeline. Sort of. There's a "secret" MCU character in Moon Knight episode 1? I guess. Rotten Tomatoes gives Morbius a 17%, which is higher than Jarvis thought it would be. We have A LOT of Marvel stuff coming out this year. Like, a lot. And, hey! Jarvis updated our Reddit page! Finally!

WandaVision episodes 1-4
We talk about WandaVision episodes 1-4 and the things you missed if you don't read the comics. Hear about Wanda Maximoff, Vision, Agatha Darkness, SWORD, Monica Rambeau, Jimmy Woo, and more! Talk with us on Twitter and Reddit. Links from the discussion… Wanda Maximoff: is she a mutant? Not a mutant? What's her powers? It's all pretty weird, and gets weirder and weirder and weirder. So does the history of the Vision. The MCU made him much less complicated, which is both good and bad.  Agatha Harkness is, well, a witch. In the comics, she trained Wanda (sort of): You know what SHIELD is. But do you know what SWORD is? Probably not, but maybe. They were designed to deal with extraterrestrial threats, which is why it's weird that they are deal with a domestic issue: No lie, Monica Rambeau is my favorite character and they are doing a great job with her. NEWS YOU CAN ABUSE! Some people hate the new Ms. Marvel trailer, specifically how her powers are portrayed. Sony and Marvel/Disney need to have a meeting to figure out all their crap, and Morbius is a good reason why. And then there is the whole Madame Web thing. Rumor Boomer: New Daredevil and Scarlett Witch projects in the works.

Hear about Joker, Riddler, Scarecrow, Bane, Two-Face, Catwoman, Clayface, Polka-Dot Man, Mime, Tarantula, Zebra-Man, The Condiment King, and more! Talk with us on Twitter and Reddit. Links from the discussion… Batman is a super old character. And he used to kill people. What makes Batman such a good character, and great for a movie like Lego Batman, is his villains. And there are a lot of them. A. Lot. March Harriet is absolutely a real villain from DC comics. She later became March Hare as part of the Wonderland Gang. Seriously. Condiment King is actually a real villain from DC comics that got his start in the DC Animated Universe. His weapons are ketchup, mustard, and hot sauce or relish depending on the situation. It can cause some nasty stains. Did you like the Batman vehicles? Because there are a lot of them, too. The Scuttler is the coolest Batman vehicle of all time since it can quickly transform into a Batwing in the movie. News you can abuse Tom Holland's new Spider-Man costume is amazing. All the Marvel Netflix shows are going to be on Disney+, even the Punisher, thanks to new parental controls for Disney+.

Blade Trinity
We talk about Blade Trinity and the things you missed if you don't read the comics. Hear about Whistler, Drake, Abigail Whistler, Hannibal King, Nightstalkers, and more! Talk with us on Twitter and Reddit. Links from the discussion… Jay says Blade Trinity is absolutely terrible and Rotten Tomatoes agrees with him. Dracula is in this movie, but because of copyright issues, they can't speak the word "Dracula." It's silly and hurts the movie pretty bad. Hannibal King is from the comics! He was turned into a vampire by Deacon Frost from the first Blade movie. Abigail Whistler is not from the comics. And, yeah, the Nightstalkers are from the comics. Rachel van Helsing is a member of the Nightstalkers and who Jessica Biel was originally cast to play. Patton Oswald is in this and he said the production was absolutely terrible.  News you can abuse! The Netflix Marvel shows are coming to Disney +. Spider-man: No Way Home breaks more records. Ryan Reynolds has new updates for Deadpool 3.

Links from the discussion… Blade is the only character in this movie from the 616 universe. Not even the reapers are from the comics. Novak was based on Morbius, because why not? Blade
Blade
We talk about Blade and the things you missed if you don't read the comics. Hear about Whistler, Deacon Frost, La Magra, Vanessa, Wu-Tang Clan, and more! Talk with us on Twitter and Reddit. Links from the discussion… The Blade character has a long history in the Marvel universe, but wasn't popular until the movie dropped in 1998. Deacon Frost is in the comics, and pretty close to how he was in the movie. Whistler is not from the main 616 universe. But, fun fact! The Blade movies exist in their own universe! (26320) Whistler is based on a character named Jamal Afari. David S Goyer wrote the story for this and a ton, a ton of other comic movies. Most people don't know how much he's had his hand in comic movies. But, once you get a sense of his style, you can see it. And, it's not always great. Blade 1 and 2, I believe, are his best work. He also directed Blade Trilogy and Jay thinks it was absolutely terrible. Stephen Norrington directed Blade and it's a miracle that it was good. (he's not a great director) Blade II was directed by Guillermo Del Toro and you can see the difference in style, design and fight scenes. Jay says that Blade II is the rare sequel that is better than the original.  We don't know much about the new Blade movie that they are making. It starts filming this July and Mahershala Ali is the lead role, but that's it. We know he spoke in the post credits scene for Eternals. Big questions: Will it be PG 13 or rated R?  The current Marvel movies haven't done anything "dark" yet, but there is plenty of material for them to pull from. Cool Blade facts! Blade Trivia! News you can abuse! For some reason, people think that Dr. Strange 2 is going to introduce the X-men. The upcoming Moon Knight series looks like it will pull some ideas from Warren Ellis' comic run. Marvel/Disney is removing Marvel shows from Netflix. No one knows what that means.

Talk with us on Twitter and Reddit. Links from the discussion… Mysterio is named Quentin Beck and in the comics he got his start in special effects for movies. Spider-Man and Tony have some strong connections in the comics, but Tony would never give Peter the EDITH power in any universe. More fun with Spidey's costumes. All you need to know about Peter's Spider (or Spidey) sense. News you can Abuse! The Wasp is an anti-vaxxer! The Moon Knight has some horror movie roots. The third movie will mean bye bye to the Guardians of the Galaxy. Pip the Troll's CGI looked horrible at the end of Eternals, and there was a reason for that. Kevin Smith's top ten Marvel movies!

Avengers: Endgame
We talk about Avengers: Endgame and the things you missed if you don't read the comics. Hear about Captain America, Thor, Iron Man, Professor Hulk, Nebula, and more! Thanks to our special guest Josh from The Craft Beercast. Talk with us on Twitter and Reddit. Links from the discussion… It’s weird exactly who is and isn’t worthy to lift Mjolnir. In the comics, Captain America can and has lifted it. In the movie, the Avengers did not time travel. They travelled to different timelines (multiverses). The multiverse is much better fleshed out now than when Endgame came out. In the comics, time travel is far easier and messier. There’s just a lot going on with Time Travel/Multiple universes in this movie. Smart Hulk (Technically Professor Hulk and Jay’s personal favorite Hulk) The ending of the Infinity Saga is nothing how it was in the comics. It’s completely different. The only thing that is even remotely close is Captain America’s last stand. News you can abuse! Norman Reedus as Ghost Rider? Eternals comes to Disney + this week!

We talk about the “So This Is Christmas?” Episode of Hawkeye with special guests Veronica and Melissa from The SJW Comic Book Club podcast. Hear about Kingpin, trick arrows, Echo, Tracksuit Mafia, The Swordsman, and more! Talk with us on Twitter and Reddit. Links from the discussion… The Hawkeye tv series is very loosely based on the Hawkeye comic series. There is still a lot of meat on the bone for future projects. The Kingpin in this episode was....fine. But not great. He can fight, though, so that's correct. All these trick arrows were seen in the final episode. In the comics, Kate and Clint both call each other "Hawkeye." Which I think is fun. News you can abuse! People in Norway want to see Spider-Man: No Way Home so bad that they are leaving the country to do it! Happy Hogan was supposed to die in Iron Man 3? I guess people thought it was worth getting Covid to watch Spider-Man: No Way Home. Take these Sony/Marvel Spider-Man rumors with a grain of salt. A huge grain of salt. We talk about the “Ronin” episode of Hawkeye and the things you missed if you don't read the comics. Hear about Kate Bishop, Yelena Belova, Tracksuit Mafia, Echo, Kingpin, Daredevil, and more! Talk with us on Twitter and Reddit. Links from the discussion… Yelena is back! Hanging out with Kate Bishop! But, lots of people are saying very silly things that make no sense, like this article! The family dynamic in Hawkeye originally came from the Ultimate line of comics. In those comics, Clint Barton's entire family is murdered, so we should hope they don't stick to that in the show. (and, no, Mike, Laura is not going to become a super-hero) BOMBSHELL AWARD! THE KINGPIN HAS ARRIVED! There are many variations of Wilson Fisk, but they are always basically the same. NEWS YOU CAN ABUSE! Hawkeye directors talk about bringing in the Kingpin. Spider-Man: No Way Home is going to make a whole lot of money. Tom Holland and Zendaya don't want to have a Spidey sex scene.

Hawkeye - Partners, am I right?
We talk about the "Partners, am I right?” episode of Hawkeye and the things you missed if you don't read the comics. Hear about Kate Bishop, Yelena Belova, the Rolex, Echo, Bombshell, and more! Talk with us on Twitter and Reddit. Links from the discussion… Yelena Belova has joined the fight! Please remember that Yelena is nothing in the MCU like she is in the comics. In the Hawkeye comic that this series is loosely based on, Clint is viewed as a womanizer. He cheats on his girlfriend in the comics and treats women pretty terribly. That's not how the show is portraying him (thankfully). Mike has a theory that Kate's mother is going to be the villain. Maybe? Bombshell’s first mission was to team up with Oddball and Silencer to kidnap Hawkeye. She kept her bombs in a duffle bag. News you can abuse! Venom is officially in the MCU. (sigh) We are getting a Shang-Chi sequel, baby! Daredevil is for sure coming to the MCU and Charlie Cox is going to play him. Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is a thing!

Hawkeye episodes 1-3
We talk about the first 3 episodes of Hawkeye and the things you missed if you don't read the comics. Hear about Kate Bishop, Lucky the Pizza Dog, Tracksuit Mafia, Jacques Duquesne the Swordsman, Echo, and more! Talk with us on Twitter and Reddit. Links from the discussion… We've seen Hawkeye a lot and it's amazing how consistent the MCU version of the character is, which is different in many ways from the comics. The Disney+ show did a fair introduction of Kate Bishop. But we are missing some key elements that the comics had time to address. Yes, Lucky the dog is in the comics. And, yes, so are the Tracksuit Mafia. Jack Duquesne is actually Jacques Duquesne in the comics and he goes by the Swordsman, who was an Avengers. It looks like the MCU is turning him into a villain. (But we don't really know yet) Echo is from old Daredevil comics, which is why many people think the Kingpin is going to show up at some point. News you can abuse! Colby Smulders is back as Maria Hill and hopefully she won't be as boring as she always has. Whoa! Keanu Reeves wants to join the MCU! Tom Holland is coming back for three more Spider-man movies!

We talk about Captain Marvel and the things you missed if you don't read the comics. Hear about Kree, Supreme Intelligence, Skrull, Lightspeed, Talos, Photon, and more! Talk with us on Twitter and Reddit. Links from the discussion… The original Captain Marvel was a man. He fought Thanos. Was a big time hero. Died of Cancer. Carol Danvers has been a huge part of the Marvel universe a very long time and just recently took up the Captain Marvel mantel in the last ten years. Yes, Flerkens are from the comics. The Kree have blue skinned and “pink” skinned people and have a number of different genetic variations. In the comics, the Skrulls are Deviants that took over their entire planet. Talos the Untamed originally showed up in the Incredible Hulk. Photon is the kid from the movie who will, at some point, claim the Captain Marvel mantle.

Talk with us on Twitter and Reddit. Links from the discussion… The Eternals have a very complicated history in the Marvel Comics Universe. The Celestials are in the comics and they are very similar to how they are portrayed in the movie. Arishem is a judge of humanity in the comics. Want to learn more about the Eternals? Here’s a long list of them. Dane Whitman is the Black Knight and in the comics he helped the Avengers fight Kang the Conqueror. Starfox, or Eros, is legitimately the brother of Thanos. Talk with us on Twitter and Reddit. Links from the discussion… The quantum realm is known as the microverse in the comics. Ghost from the comics is almost nothing like this. Ava Starr is a new character for the MCU. Bill Foster is from the comics, code name Goliath. He was killed by a clone of Thor in the first Civil War series. Jimmy Woo was a member of the FBI before later becoming an agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. Elias Starr is the Egghead! And he doesn’t have anything to do with Ava or Ghost. Janet Van Dyne was a founding member of the Avengers as Wasp. The disturbing domestic abuse history of Hank Pym. News You Can Abuse! The kids don’t like “Eternals” but they don’t like anything. Thanks to our special guest, Josh, from the Craft Beer Cast! Talk with us on Twitter and Reddit. Links from the discussion… A plan to save Vision There was always a push to make Shuri as smart, or smarter, than Tony Stark and Bruce Banner It was pretty clear from this scene that Wanda would have to kill Vision. Thanos makes a sacrifice None of this is in the comics. At all. A weak story telling trope. Jarvis hates it. But we get to see the Red Skull again. Our heroes take a stand Dr. Strange, Iron-man, Star Lord, Drax, Mantis, and Spider-man vs. Thanos. This isn't like the fight in the comics, but it is very, very similar. In the comics, taking the Gauntlet from Thanos is a key concept. WAKANDA FOREVER! This is nothing like the comics, but that's fine because it's awesome. Jarvis’ favorite part of this scene. StormBreaker Stormbreaker is originally Beta Ray Bill's hammer in the comics. Thor does have an axe in the comics called Jarnbjorn.
Thanos is here Good scene. We get to see power-levels correctly. Wanda holding back Thanos and Thor almost killing him. The Snap The Snap and the results of the snap are comic-book accurate, which made Jarvis very happy. Thanos final rest. Post Credit Scene A nice hint for the next movie, Captain Marvel. NEWS YOU CAN ABUSE Oh, now they wanna do World War Hulk.  Kamala Kahn’s powers look….different.  No Way Home in Empire.

Hear about the Black Order, Thanos, Bruce Banner, Hulk, Iron Man, Doctor Strange, Thor, Guardians of the Galaxy, Wanda Maximoff, Vision, Captain America, Black Widow, Black Panther, Gamora, and more!  Talk with us on Twitter and Reddit. Links from the discussion… Thanos attacks Asgard The Black Order is the name of Thanos's band of bad dudes.  The Black Order in the comics is different than the group in the movies.  Thanos goes about finding the Infinity Gems much more differently in the comics. In the movie, Thanos wants to kill half of all life in order to help life sustain itself. In the comics, Thanos does it simply to appease his lover, Death. In the comics, this doesn't really work.  A warning. In the movie, Banner is sent to Earth to warn strange. In the comics, the Silver Surfer does this. Attack of New York part II. Iron Man never had a nanite suit in the comics, at least not until these movies. In the comics, Dr. Strange has owned an infinity Gem, but not like how they portray it in the comics. First time we get to see the Iron-Spider suit. Thor meets the Guardians of the Galaxy The Guardians plan to go to Knowhere. Thor, Rocket and Groot plan to go to Nidavellir, which is one of the ten realms. A Strange Love This is the beginning of the Wanda/Vision love affair, which we will learn very well in Wandavision. In the comics, Vision doesn't not have a connection to the Mind Gem. This is a great highlight of how powerful Wanda is, in the movies and the comics. Return of the Lost Soldier Cap and the gang have been on the run for two years, after the events of Captain America: Civil War. Some fans call this "Nomad-Cap" but I don't really see it. A little girl named Gamora: There are some connections to Thanos and Gamora, but it's a bit different in the comics.  Tony, Stephen and the Kid from Queens Death of Ebony Maw by a very familiar method. A plan to save Vision: There was always a push to make Shuri as smart, or smarter, than Tony Stark and Bruce Banner It was pretty clear from this scene that Wanda would have to kill Vision.

We talk about Thor: Ragnarok and the things you missed if you don't read the comics. Hear about Surtur, Hela, Odin, bifrost, Grandmaster, Hulk, and more! Thanks to our special guest, Josh, from the Craft Beer Cast! Talk with us on Twitter. Links from the discussion… Surtur of the comics is pretty close to what we see in Thor: Ragnarok. Hela is the daughter of Loki in Norse mythology and the comics, but in Thor: Ragnarok she is Odin’s first born. Odin has been thought to be dead several times in the comics and he’s been brought back, so his death in Thor: Ragnarok may not be the end. The beam-me-up Bifrost seen in the Thor movies isn’t in the comics or mythology, instead Bifrost is the name for the Rainbow Bridge between Asgard and other realms like Midgard. The Grandmaster held a Contest of Champions in the comics which is similar to what is seen in Thor: Ragnarok. Planet Hulk is a storyline that Josh and Jay thought they were getting in Thor: Ragnarok but sadly didn’t.

Spider-Man: Homecoming
We talk about Spider-Man: Homecoming and the things you missed if you don't read the comics. Hear about Vulture, MJ, Flash, Ferris Bueller, The Shocker, Damage Control, and more! Talk with us on Twitter. Links from the discussion… Peter Parker usually goes it alone but has teamed up with the Avengers and the Fantastic Four at times. He’s the best superhero of all time. Aunt May took in Peter after the death of his parents and raised him. She eventually learned he is Spider-Man. The Vulture of the comics invented an electromagnetic harness that one could wear to fly and also increased the wearer’s strength. They improved on his costume quite a bit in Spider-Man: Homecoming. The Shocker in the comics teamed up with Doctor Octopus to take on the Avengers, and once fought alongside the Guardians of the Galaxy against aliens. Aaron Davis isn't the original Prowler, but he's the most recent and has a direct connection to Miles Morales. The Tinkerer makes tons of tech for Marvel villilains, just like in the movie. The only hint is a scorpion tattoo on his neck, but the Scorpion did make it into his first Marvel movie. Michelle is great in the movie, but she's not the MJ from the comics, nor does she have any relation to Mary Jane Watson.

Hear about Razor Fist, Ten Rings, The Mandarin, Dweller-in-Darkness, Death Dealer, and more! Talk with us on Twitter. Links from the discussion… Shang-Chi was raised to become an assassin by his father, Fu Manchu, in the comics. Shang-Chi defected after his first assignment just like in the movie. Razor Fist is a general bad guy that has gone up against many heroes in the Marvel universe including Shang-Chi, Wolverine, Hawkeye, and Colleen Wing. The Ten Rings was invented for the MCU and is a recent addition to the comics. The name is a nod to the Mandarin’s rings. The Mandarin is a baddie that is associated with Iron Man in the comics. He doesn’t really have anything to do with Shang-Chi. The Dweller-in-Darkness from the Shang-Chi movie is a descendent of Cthulu and first appeared in a Thor comic. Death Dealer was a double agent working at the MI6 while also working for Fu Manchu until the head of MI6 hired Shang-Chi to take him out.

We talk about Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and the things you missed if you don't read the comics. Hear about Ego, Starlord, Sovereign, Yondu, Ravagers, Mantis, Adam Warlock, and more! Talk with us on Twitter. Links from the discussion… Ayesha the High Priestess is closely associated with Adam Warlock in the comics. The Sovereigns don’t exist in the comics.  Ego the living planet isn’t Peter Quill’s father and isn’t a Celestial. Mantis was trained in martial arts by the Kree who thought she would become the Celestial Madonna. Yondu is a Centaurian. Yondu's "whistle arrow" is not in the comics.  He was in the original Guardians of the Galaxy. You can see why he’s called Taserface in the comics. Also, he’s ridiculous. The original Guardians of the Galaxy was Vance Astro, Martinex T'Naga, Captain Charlie-27, and Yondu Udonta. Later members included Stakar Ogord, Aleta Ogord, and Nikki. Adam Warlock played a key role in defeating Thanos in the comics. Not sure what Marvel plans to do with him at this point, if anything.

Black Panther
We talk about Black Panther and the things you missed if you never read the comics. Hear about Vibranium, Grace Jones, Wakanda, T’Challa, Killmonger, The Winter Soldier, and more! Talk with us on Twitter. Links from the discussion… T'Challa aka the Black Panther was created in 1966 by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby. Wakanda is a small African nation that is the most technologically advanced on Earth.  The White Wolf was a white foreigner orphan in the comics that was adopted by T’Chaka. In the movie it’s a name given to The Winter Soldier.  Vibranium is an extremely rare metal that can absorb vibratory or kinetic energy. Dora Milaje are the personal bodyguards of the Black Panther. M'Baku had a problematic Gorilla costume in the Black Panther comics, but the character was handled very well in the MCU. Ulysses Klaue was the son of a Nazi war criminal and smuggled Vibranium out of Wakanda with help from Hydra. Killmonger in the comics was a Wakandan boy kidnapped by an associate of Ulysses Klaue. Black Panther by Christopher Priest Ta-nehisi Coates' influence on the Black Panther Mythos. Black Panther album produced by Kendrick Lamar & SZA. Black Panther original score by Ludwig Grandson. Black Panther and Storm were married but they are divorced now.

The Eternals final trailer update!
We talk about the final trailer for The Eternals. Hear about Dane Whitman, The Black Knight, Sersi, Deviants, Celestials, and more! Talk with us on Twitter. Links from the discussion… Dane Whitman was cursed by an inherited sword to become The Black Knight. He doesn’t have anything to do with The Eternals in the comics. Sersi is a fan favorite among the Eternals because of her association with the Avengers. Deviants were created by The Celestials through a mutation of Homo Erectus for a grand experiment on Earth.  Celestials are cosmic beings responsible for the creation of Deviants, Eternals, and the X-Gene on Earth.

What If… T’Challa Became a Star-Lord?
We talk about What If… T’Challa Became a Star-Lord? and the things you missed if you never read the comics. Hear about the Intergalactic Empire of Wakanda, The Collector, Howard the Duck, Cosmo, and more! Audio problems are now fixed. If you hear issues with us talking over each other, delete your existing download. Talk with us on Twitter. Links from the discussion… The Intergalactic Empire of Wakanda was started by T'Challa to search for the origin of the asteroid that deposited Vibranium in Wakanda. Howard the Duck is the first Marvel first feature length movie. The Collector is one of the oldest beings in the universe. Absurdly, his species is supposed to be one of the first to evolve after the Big Bang. Cosmo is modeled after the canine Cosmonauts of the Soviet Space Program, but his name comes from “Cosmonaut” instead of any of the actual dogs’ names. Rest in peace, Chadwick.

We talk about What If… Captain Carter Were The First Avenger? and the things you missed if you never read the comics. Hear about The Watcher, Captain Carter, Captain Britain, Hydra Stomper, Cthulhu, and more! Talk with us on Twitter. Uatu the Watcher is a member of the oldest species in the universe and is supposed to merely observe and compile knowledge but he is known to have helped the Fantastic Four. (voiced by Jeffery Wright!) Listen to our podcast about Captain America: The First Avenger to get more insight into this episode. What if Steve Rogers got shot by a Hydra agent right before becoming a super soldier? Captain Carter is what. Captain Britain is from the comics and he carried a sword instead of a shield. Hydra Stomper is very similar to Tony Stark's Mark I Iron Man suit. Cthulhu apparently doesn’t have any relation to Hyrda in the comics but it should have.

Doctor Strange
Doctor Strange
We talk about Doctor Strange and the things you missed if you never read the comics. Hear about Dr. Stephen Strange, Kamar-Taj, Yao the Ancient One, various dimensions, Dormammu, and more! Talk with us on Twitter. Links from the discussion… Dr. Stephen Strange’s origin story as Doctor Strange in the movie is strikingly similar to that in the comics. Doctor Strange was created in 1963 which is the same year Lamborghini was founded, but the car he crashed in the comics looks more like an Aston Martin than a 1960’s Lamborghini. Kamar-Taj is a remote community in the Himalayan mountains in or near Tibet. Yao the Ancient One is hundreds of years old and was born in Kamar-Taj. Mordo was from Transylvania in the comics and also attempted to gain power from Dormammu. Very much unlike the Doctor Strange movie Kaecilius was a disciple of Mordo in the comics. Wong was a servant of the Sorcerer Supreme which means he became Doctor Strange’s servant in the comics. Dormammu from Doctor Strange is highly similar to Alioth from Loki. Doctor Strange’s amulet, the Eye of Agamotto, never held an Infinity Stone in the comics but was also known as the All-Seeing Eye of Infinity. Doctor Strange’s Cloak of Levitation was a gift given to him by the Ancient One after prevailing against Dormammu. Chiwetel Ejiofor confirms he's returning to the MCU as Mordo for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Captain America: Civil War
We talk about Captain America: Civil War and the things you missed if you never read the comics. Learn about Black Panther, The Raft, Sokovia Accords, Spider-Man and more! Talk with us on Twitter. Links from the discussion… The comic series that changed Marvel comics forever. Captain America considers Crossbones as one of his deadliest opponents. T’Challa is the Black Panther and the leader of the most technologically advanced country on Earth.  In the comicbooks Baron Zemo wears a mask because his face was disfigured by Adhesive X which is family invented. The Raft is a super max prison run by Shield that has connections to Jessica Jones, Killgrave, Daredevil, and Luke Cage. General “Thunderbolt” Ross eventually becomes the Red Hulk in the comics. We can all be Captain America. The Mutant Registration Act and Super-human Registration Act are what the Sokovia Accords are modeled after. Spider-Man has a utility belt!

Ant Man
We talk about Ant Man and the things you missed if you never read the comics. Learn about the Pym particle, Scott Lang, Yellowjacket, Janet Van Dyke, the Microverse, Edgar Wright, and more! Talk with us on Twitter. Links from the discussion… The Pym particle can alter the size and mass of things and bypasses the laws of physics. Scott Lang’s origin in the comics is very similar to what we see in the MCU. Chekhov’s gun is a principle that means if you have something in one act, that thing should have an impact in a later act. Dr. Henry "Hank" Pym, Ph.D was the original Ant Man and later on Yellowjacket in the comicbooks. Janet Van Dyne is the Wasp and a founding member of the Avengers. Hank Pym was abusive to his wife in the comics around the time he was Yellowjacket. Cassie Lang became Stinger and a member of the Young Avengers. Apparently the Microverse was thought to exist within atoms but was later written as a parallel dimension.

Avengers: Age of Ultron
Avengers: Age of Ultron
We talk about Avengers: Age of Ultron and the things you missed if you never read the comics. Learn about Strucker, Wanda, Pietro, Hulk Buster, Ulysses Klaue, and more! Talk with us on Twitter. Strucker is a long lived character in the comics that didn’t get much screen time in the movies before being killed off. Scarlet Witch is one of the most powerful magic wielders on Earth. Quicksilver was a member of the Avengers when they defeated Kang the Conquerer. In the comics the Iron Legion was a group of people led by War Machine to fight while Tony Stark was comatose. This group included Happy Hogan. Helen Cho is a minor character from the comics that gave birth to a son that eventually became a new Hulk. For a long time, Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch were Magneto's children. But, that's been changed, mainly because of rights issues with Marvel and the X-men. There have been several Hulkbuster Armor suits in the comic books. Ultron gets killed in the comics but keeps coming back. Vision was created by Ultron from parts of the original Human Torch android. The Infinity Stones are also known as the Infinity Gems and the Soul Gems. It’s true. Jarvis is growing more and more concerned with the growing schism between the MCU and the comics.

Talk with us on Twitter. Links from the discussion… Nathaniel Richards has taken many different forms in the comics over the years but many know him as Kang. Nathaniel Richards as Immortus seems to be the inspiration for the character in this series.  He Who Remains was the last director of the TVA and was in the Citadel at the End of Time, but didn’t have anything to do with Nathaniel Richards.  The Loki series takes a lot of points from the Avengers Forever series of comics.

Black Widow
Black Widow
We talk about Black Widow and the things you missed if you never read the comics. Learn about Yelena, Taskmaster, Red Guardian, Melina, Red Room, and more! Talk with us on Twitter. Links from the discussion… Yelana is not Natasha's sister in the comics, and sorta joined the Avengers, and she’s dead now. The Black Widow Ops Program was based at the Red Room during the Cold War and was created because of their success with the Winter Soldier. Natasha was trained by the Red Room and once a member of the KGB before defecting to the US to join Shield. There was a Red Guardian before Alexi from the movie who was named Aleksey Lebedev. Alexi Shostakov was the second Red Guardian and was married to Natasha for a while. In the comics, he did not have the super soldier serum.  Taskmaster is a completely different character in the movie than the comics. Nastasha’s fixer in the movie, Rick Mason, is from the comics but isn’t closely associated with Natasha. Valentina Allegra de Fontaine has a convoluted history but was once a leading member of Shield.  Melina lived in the shadow of Black Widow while working as an agent of the Russian government named Iron Maiden. She later tried to kill Black Widow. The cold open of Black Widow is very similar in feel to The Americans television series. Kevin Feige talks about the changes Marvel Studios is making to eliminate the Samuel L. Jackson-style, nine-picture contracts they’ve locked actors into in the past.

Loki, episode 5, Journey Into Mystery
We talk about Loki’s Journey Into Mystery and the things you missed if you never read the comics. Learn about the Alioth, He Who Remains, Congress of Realities, and more! Talk with us on Twitter. Links from the discussion… The silly story of the Thanos helicopter. Loki did refer to himself as the God of Outcasts in the comics just like the variant Lokis did in this episode. Alioth exists across divergent timelines and consumes everything it touches. He Who Remains is the final leader of the TVA in the comics and he has a castle. The Congress of Realities exists across timelines and has representatives from trillions of them. The sword that Kid Loki gives to Loki looks like Gram. Vote Loki is the issue where the President Loki variant comes from. Gizmodo has an interesting article on Loki’s transition from Norse mythology to Marvel comics.

Guardians of the Galaxy
We talk about Guardians of the Galaxy and the things you missed if you never read the comics. Learn about Starlord, Rocket Raccoon, Groot, Gamora, Drax, Ronan, Yondu, and more! Talk with us on Twitter. Links from the discussion… Peter Quill was an orphan that wanted to be an astronaut before he stole a Kree ship from NASA and fled Earth. Gamora is fairly consistent with the movie except it isn’t clear if her body is mechanically improved. Nebula in the MCU looks very much like she does in the comics. I am Groot. Rocket is a genetically and cybernetically enhanced raccoon with a very convoluted origin story. A comic issue where Drax battles Hulk and plays a saxophone. Yondu's "whistle arrow" is not in the comics.  He was in the original Guardians of the Galaxy. The Nova Corps are Xandar’s space force and explorers. Nova was a Nova Prime like Glenn Close in this movie. The Collector once kidnapped Howard the Duck who escaped with the help of escapee Rocket Raccoon and the Guardians of the Galaxy. The original Guardians of the Galaxy and the new Guardians of the Galaxy. The Annihilation: Conquest comic series pits Ronan the Accuser against many of the heroes in this movie.

Talk with us on Twitter. Links from the discussion… Georges St-Pierre plays Batroc the Leaper at the beginning of the movie. Captain America orders the shutdown of Shield in this movie. Alexander Pierce is pretty insignificant in the comics. Bucky Barnes as the Winter Soldier closely mirrors the comics. Jarvis thinks Maria Hill should have taken Black Widow’s place in this movie. Parkour was invented by David Belle in Paris in-between the time the first and second Captain America movies are set. That one weird time that Steve Rogers was an agent of Hydra.
