Following your intuition can be challenging. It's especially tough after doing all the things you think will bring success, but still waking up feeling unfulfilled every morning. Meha Agrawal, CEO and Founder of Silk + Sonder, found herself in that exact situation.

As the first-born child of immigrant parents, Meha's path to success was paved at a young age. After being modeled a limited vision of what success could be, Meha became a computer software engineer. Realizing that perhaps that path wasn't right for her, she turned to entrepreneurship. A lack of community led Meha to establish Silk + Sonder, her beloved journaling subscription service. Though Meha had her fears about becoming an entrepreneur, she recalls her customers and her bigger why, knowing her product helps millions at a time.

Ellen Bennett, founder of Hedley & Bennett, has never followed a conventional path. Guided by optimism, Ellen firmly believes in showing up first and then figuring the rest out later. Deeply honest and known to drop the occasional F-Bomb, Ellen is a leading example that there is not just one path to success in life and business.

After attending culinary school in Mexico City, Ellen returned home to LA. To get professional experience, Ellen busted her way into some of the best kitchens in LA until she eventually became a line cook at a two-star Michelin restaurant. Around the same time, the concept for an apron business began bubbling in her head. It is this concept that ultimately led to the formation of Hedley & Bennett, the leading provider of aprons and kitchenware for top chefs everywhere.  Although Ellen has faced ups and downs along the way, her passion and purpose have inspired her to keep going down the path less traveled. After taking a sabbatical from her finance career in 2018, Vanessa found herself turning inward, which she now describes as a homecoming journey back to herself and her late mother. Finding no truly sustainable fashion pieces, Vanessa embarked on a journey to start a luxury brand rooted in transparency and care for animal, environmental, and human welfare. Through a farm-to-closet supply chain, Vanessa has developed a new model for sustainable fashion that enables the consumer to connect with the piece's origin story. As she works towards her vision of a better tomorrow, Vanessa looks for patterns of resilience in running a sustainable fashion brand.

How often do you stop to wonder who the person behind the reality TV star really is?  You could look them up on the Internet, but what's the fun in that when you can hear it straight from the source? In this episode, Erin Lichy, of the Real Housewives of New York, is here to share her side of the story and what life is like for her as a serial entrepreneur, real estate agent, and mom.

When watching a reality television show, we tend to forget that we are only getting a small glimpse into a person's life, there is so much more that we don't know. Despite having much of her personal life edited out of RHONY, Erin is a multi-tasking renaissance woman in real life. She is not only a real estate agent, but also the founder of two businesses, Homegirl, a renovation and interior design firm, and Mezcalum, an organic mezcal brand. She is also the mom of three.  For Erin, not much has changed since she appeared on the show. According to her, "I don't think we're that famous."

Enjoy this video podcast on Spotify and Youtube!

Many of us today have been conditioned to believe that happiness will come after achieving a version of success based on money and titles that have been spoon-fed to us our entire lives. Anu Muralidharan, COO and Board Member of Expensify, reached a low point six years into chasing this version of fulfillment. Gripped by crippling depression, she knew she had to find a new definition of success.

In an attempt to escape her circumstances, Anu immigrated to the United States to attend business school, accumulating $120,000 worth of debt in the process. Before she landed a job at Citibank, Anu cold-called hundreds, if not thousands of companies. As Anu describes it, she was always chasing after the next big thing, never stopping to ask herself if she was happy. Anu realized it was up to her to change her trajectory and began to follow her heart in an experiment that would lead her on the career path she is currently on. Throughout her career, Anu has faced self-doubt, a critical inner voice, and imposter syndrome, which has led her to offer keynote speeches on how high-achieving women can conquer all of these. Mentoring up-and-coming women entrepreneurs now brings her joy.

Breaking Barriers: Redefining Success for Black Female Founders in the Beauty Industry with Monique Rodriguez, CEO of Mielle Organics

Enjoy this video podcast on Spotify and Youtube!

As Mielle Organics celebrates its 10th anniversary this year, founder and CEO Monique Rodriguez promises an enormous celebration! And there sure is a lot to be excited about.  In recent years, the Queen of Hair has broken barriers and given Black female founders everywhere a reason to celebrate.

After losing her son during a high-risk pregnancy in 2014, Monique founded Mielle. Her turn to God and faith during this time led Monique back to her true purpose of working in the beauty and hair care space after working as a nurse for almost a decade. Through sharing her hair journey on social media Monique began to heal and was inspired to build a brand of natural hair products. She has experienced incredible success since the launch of her brand. Not only is Monique a self-made millionaire, but she has accomplished two historic milestones within two years: first, by becoming the first Black woman ever to raise the largest non-controlling investment of over $100 million with Berkshire Partners, and second, by being acquired by Proctor & Gamble, the largest exit a Black female beauty founder has ever made.

The focus of Monique's brand has always been her online community and keeping her consumers' needs at the forefront. While Monique remains CEO of the company, she believes the real work has just begun. She now puts her focus on her real-life community, including her family and her non-profit Mielle Cares.

Despite working on multi-million dollar projects and hosting her own design television show, Toronto-based Ali Budd of Ali Budd Interiors didn't set out to be a superstar. According to her, she isn't even goal-oriented.

In response to her father's advice not to make a decision based on fear, Ali enrolled in an interior design school. Having worked under some of Canada's top designers, Ali decided to start her own business in 2010. Divorced with two small children, Ali found herself even more motivated to succeed, fueling her current success. She now manages a team of ten women and is one of the most sought-after designers in North America. The key to Ali's success is not following a prescribed path and being open to opportunities that come her way, including her new TV show, House of Ali, streaming on Hulu. With this "authentic reality" show, Ali hopes to celebrate and uplift women in the interior design world.

Enjoy this video podcast on Spotify and Youtube!

A professional dancer's career is not easy. A complete commitment of your time, body, and most importantly your heart is required. It is for this reason that many women end their careers early or wait until later in life, after retiring, to have children. Dancer Eran Bugge is blazing a new path in the modern dance world by showing the industry that she has room in her heart for both dance and a child.

To all the modern-day moms out there doing the most, we see you. And you deserve an outfit that sees you too. With 75 percent of unpaid care labor falling into the hands of women, the need for closing the economic inequality gap has never been greater.

Writing and fashion brand consultant Melissa Magsaysay and fashion designer Andrea Racey, cofounders of Duster, have created a contemporary house dress (inspired by the duster worn by Filipino women to do housework) that not only carries women through their day-to-day work, but also sparks a larger conversation about women's work, both visible and invisible. Melissa and Andrea are driven by their brand's mission to honor ALL that women do and ease the burden in women's lives.

The word breastfeeding almost immediately evokes an emotional reaction, especially for breastfeeding parents. Each person's journey with breastfeeding is unique. Cue Elizabeth Myer and Betsy Riley, cofounders of Swehl, an online platform dedicated to bringing breastfeeding into the 21st century. Following their breastfeeding journeys in the Covid era, Elizabeth and Betsy started Swehl. Taking Back Control of Your Hormonal Cycle: Becoming Your Own Health Advocate with Alex Taylor and Victoria Thain Gioia, Co-Founders and Co-CEOs of Perelel

Enjoy this video podcast on Spotify and Youtube!

All doctors tell us to take prenatal vitamins but never tell us which ones to take or what to look for in a supplement. The supplement industry is highly unregulated and often uses a one-size-fits-all approach.

Alex Taylor and Victoria Thain Gioia, co-founders and co-CEOs of Perelel, both came to this realization after experiencing their own challenges with prenatal vitamins. Despite having different backgrounds, but similar struggles, they joined forces to close this gap in the market.

As women's health advocates, Alex and Victoria did extensive research into what women's health needs are at each stage of their hormonal lives. With the help of a team of doctors and women's wellness experts, they created a line of vitamins with high-quality ingredients completely tailored to your individual hormonal cycle.

Perelel packs allow women to be their own health advocates no matter where they are in their reproductive life cycle.

Creating Something from Nothing: Building a Brand that Stands the Tests of Time with Erin Kleinberg, CEO and founder of Métier and SIDIA

Enjoy this video podcast on Spotify and Youtube!

Erin Kleinberg is a creative entrepreneur with an innate ability to create from nothing. She started her own clothing line, became co-founder and creative director at The Coveteur, and established and runs the award-winning brand and creative agency Métier.

And if that wasn't impressive enough, Erin then went on to start her very own brand, Sidia. Her line of luxury fragrances and body care products is a tribute to her late grandmother, who passed away the same week that Covid shutdowns were announced. She channeled all her grief into creating a brand that not only honored her grandmother but focused on encouraging women to slow down and practice self-care. Having learned that change is the only constant in life, Erin has devoted herself to the sustainable, slow growth of her luxury brand while making sure to have fun in the process.

What happens when two event production directors, Emily Doyle and Mei Kwok, come together in a dreamy co-founder marriage? They give birth to an incredible baby, of course!

That baby is Dune Suncare, the first-ever “clear gel suncare line packed with clinically proven skincare benefits.”

It all began back in March 2020, at the beginning of Covid. Without much else going on, Emily and Mei knew their dream business could not wait. The decision to launch a suncare line didn't take much deliberation. They agreed from the start that their brand had to speak to everyone and be accessible.

Cut to three and a half years later and Emily and Mei’s baby is a massive success. You can find Dune Suncare products everywhere from boutiques and hotels to big-name retail stores like Ulta and online retailer Amazon, making them accessible for everyone.

The Value of Being Shamelessly Yourself: An Encore with Jennifer DaSilva

The Value of Being Shamelessly Yourself: An Encore with Jennifer DaSilva

It’s not often that the word, “vulnerability”, is listed as a desired trait in a potential employee, but Jennifer DaSilva, president of WPP creative agency Berlin Cameron, thinks it makes for a much better workplace. “One of my firm beliefs is that you need to be shamelessly you, and whether you’re at work or at home or with dinner with your girlfriends, you should bring your full self to the table and allow yourself to be you.” That includes having room to make mistakes. Jennifer firmly believes that greater strides will be made when there is not a pressure for perfection, but an allowance to try, stumble, and grow.

Jennifer and Rebecca go way back. Theirs is a relationship based on mutual support and collaboration, another value upon which Jennifer places great importance. “We’re better together,” is a phrase they are both fond of.

In the business world these are radical notions – prioritizing collaboration over the limelight, vulnerability over stoicism. Jennifer is at the forefront of this movement, ushering in a new type of work environment, and even greater than that, a new definition of success.

Fail Every Day: Encore with Daniella Pierson of The Newsette

Fail Every Day: Encore with Daniella Pierson of The Newsette

Daniella Pierson is an inspiration, but the 25-year-old founder and CEO of one of the fastest growing media platforms did not always feel like the confident boss she is today. Possibly the next (better) Zuckerberg, Daniella founded The Newsette while still in college at Boston University. She’ll be the first to tell you that she didn’t necessarily love academics, and also that it took time and effort to cultivate the self-assuredness she radiates today.

At BU, Daniella started listening to entrepreneurial podcasts like Superwomen (!) in order to create a daily email newsletter that recaps topics relevant to female professionals. She strives to make every edition a treat, with the purpose of “making women feel like they can kick ass every single day.” 7x-ing their revenue during Covid, Daniella is fast on track for her goal to build the world’s biggest female empowerment company. With the courage to fail a little bit every single day, she is learning from past mistakes and building confidence as a rare gem of a female founder in the male-dominated world of media.

50 and Limitless: Reflections on Building a Beauty Empire with Toni Ko, Founder of NYX Cosmetics

Toni Ko, beauty mogul and founder of NYX Cosmetics, just turned 50 this year. She's changed her perspective on life and her experiences, but she's not ready to put away her lipstick just yet. After climbing Mount Kiliminjaro, in a full face of makeup, it seems she is just getting started.

Toni Ko was born in South Korea and immigrated to the United States with her family when she was 13 years old. She grew up in the beauty business working in her mother’s cosmetic store selling perfume. Toni founded NYX Cosmetics in 1999 at the age of 25. In its first year alone, NYX Cosmetics earned $2 million. NYX quickly became successful and in 2014 was acquired by L’Oréal.

Falling into a deep depression after the acquisition, Toni did what she knew best and founded several new companies. Today, Toni runs Bespoke Beauty Brands, a company that helps launch new beauty brands.

What if there was a workout that helped you to not only “look good, but…feel even better?” That’s exactly what Rachel Katzman, co-founder of P.volve asked herself before she discovered the world of functional fitness.

When Rachel first found out that she had scoliosis and had been struggling with high-intensity workouts, she was desperate for a new way to exercise that didn't involve pushing through pain. As Rachel went to gym after gym in NYC, she eventually discovered functional fitness and saw incredible results. Seeing a gap in the market, Rachel launched P.volve in November of 2017. As a result of Rachel's willingness to get uncomfortable and follow her intuition, P.volve is now a revolutionary fitness movement. Just ask Jennifer Aniston.

When it comes to following her passions, French makeup artist Violette Serrat, Founder and CEO of VIOLETTE_FR has zero fears.

At 19, while living in Paris, Violette was applying glitter to her friend’s face for a party. At that moment, Violette realized doing someone’s makeup merged her two loves of fashion and painting. She immediately decided she was leaving to pursue makeup in New York City and left two weeks later with no makeup or experience. After spending a short time in NYC, Violette returned to Paris. She was determined to become a makeup artist on her own terms while remaining authentic to herself, even if it meant going against industry standards.

Violette worked really hard and eventually caught her first break with an appearance in Vogue. Over the course of 17 years, Violette worked for numerous big-name brands including Dior, Estée Lauder, and Sephora. Violette knew the whole time she wanted to create her own brand for the community she had been building on Instagram and YouTube. Today, she is the creative director of makeup at Guerlain, as well as the founder and CEO of VIOLETTE_FR. Violette’s own brand is dedicated to reminding you that perfection is not real and to celebrate yourself as both “the artist and the muse.”

Taking a Leap of Faith: How Deeannah Seymour, CEO, and Founder of pH-D® Feminine Health, Became the Face of Vaginal Health

Deeannah Seymour never set out to become an entrepreneur. She was accidentally catapulted into entrepreneurship.

After many rounds of antibiotics from chronic sinus infections, Deeannah was left with an unbalanced vaginal biome. Desperate for a solution, she began to search for a holistic product that was commercially available. Coming up empty-handed, she started to do her own research and stumbled upon boric acid. This led to the birth of her very first product and the founding of her company, pH-D® Feminine Health.

At the time, Deeannah thought this would just be her side hustle. But after a moment of clarity, she leaned into her intuition and took a leap of faith. She left the security of her 20-year pharmaceutical job to go all in on pH-D® Feminine Health, forever revolutionizing women’s health.

Deeannah’s goal from the beginning has been to remove the stigma surrounding feminine health and vaginal odor. Throughout the process, she has learned the ins and outs of business and now runs a highly successful multi-million dollar company selling her products in over 45,000 major retail stores nationwide.
