“An Hour with Colin Squire” , with a large group of captains and yachting professionals was to discuss mental health issues among yacht crew and also raise (which was achieved) enough money to create a yacht-specific portal for ISWAN (International Seafarers Welfare Assistance Network) to provide online access to free mental health information and support, www.yachtcrewhelp.org.

Today, I am wise so I am changing myself.” “We create that in how we communicate with each other, how we interact with each other, and how we resolve conflict.”
Yachting is trying to implement the same sort of Employee Assistance Programs (EAPs) that the corporate world has offered its employees for decades.
Tony Nicholson of MedAire.: “It’s unusual now for corporations not to have an EAP, particularly if they have employees traveling overseas. It leads to a happier workforce, less absenteeism, and more productivity.”
With Capt. Rafael Cervantes Mataix, and also as a second host was Capt. O’Shannassy.
“This investment in the start is to help crew understand the environment is valuable,” he said. “Substance abuse is not the cause; it’s the result, hence the need for access to support. It’s an investment in crew.”
The portal, “Yacht Crew Help” will offer 24/7 live support in multiple languages through various modes including computer and phone to help yacht crew navigating the stresses and pressures of yachting, to help families of crew dealing with issues, to help captains deal with emergencies or handle mental health issues, and provide wellness tools for all crew.

We chat with the inspiring Rob McCallum, Founding Partner of EYOS Expeditions and Leader for The Five Deeps Expedition, as he shares with us about their second dive to the deepest point in the Southern Ocean, at 7,433.6 meters. The South Sandwich Trench has not been thoroughly explored and is the only subzero Hadal zone (deeper than 6,000 meters) in the world. No human has ever dived in the trench, and due to its remote location, this dive posed many logistical and weather-related challenges, however the scientific findings could prove to be groundbreaking.

He has managed the ecotourism activities aboard the luxury vessel True North for the last decade, exploring and delivering outstanding guest experiences across a wide variety of tropical locations, from the Rowley Shoals to the Kimberley and Great Barrier Reef in Australia; Komodo, Raja Ampat, and West Papua in Indonesia; the Bismarck Sea and Louisiade Archipelago in PNG, and the Western Province of Solomon Islands. Andy has a PhD in coral reef ecology from James Cook University and has extensive experience in scuba diving, surfing and kiteboarding in tropical locations. An expert underwater photographer and engaging public speaker, Andy’s passion for the reefs, islands and people of the South-Pacific is tangible, and drives the development of the Coral Sea Foundation as a platform for delivering his vision for sustainable reef management and the ultimate marine ecotourism experience.
An important aspect of his mission strategy involves selecting intelligent and determined young Melanesian women and training them in conservation theory, scuba diving and marine biology survey techniques so they have the skills to communicate the need for marine reserves to their local communities and are able to identify areas suitable for marine protected areas on their own coral reefs.
