It was an afternoon in Serenity with the Season 1 cast reunion for Netflix’s #1 series, Sweet Magnolias! Joining us from all around the United States (including a parking lot where Jamie Lynn Spears attended her daughter’s championship game!) and Canada. The cast hadn’t seen one another in months, and while talking about the success of season 1 was on everyone’s minds it was clear how much they missed one another, and were overjoyed to see everyone.

Fans of the show have been blowing up social media with their love and reactions, especially about the season finale. No one in the cast knows who the other passenger in the car is, and while everyone attempted to drag it out of showrunner Sheryl J. Anderson, and EP Norman Buckley, they were not letting the cat out of the bag! What the entire cast was sure about was their gratitude for the fan reaction making Sweet Magnolias Netflix’s #1 most watched show, and what a magical time they all had working together creating the community of Serenity.  We can’t wait for more Serenity!

Sweet Magnolias: Episode 10: Storms and Rainbows

Prom night approaches, Maddie comes to a decision about Cal, Dana Sue is confronted by her past, and Helen calls an emergency Pour It Out session

As prom night approaches we see Ty unexpectedly accept CeCe’s invite to prom. Annie and Kyle make other plans for prom with some surprise faces.

Cal has his first dinner with Maddie and the kids but on Helen’s home front things are not so well with she and Ryan. Ryan states his case that he in no way wants children because of all the loss he’s seen in the world while Helen believes children are the hope of the world. In the end, he leaves, this time for the last time, and Helen is devastated.

Dana Sue and Maddie get an emergency Pour It Out request from Helen. The ladies try to console Helen with smoothies but the only thing she has on her mind besides tequila is having a baby.

Cal tells Maddie he loves her which sends her into a tailspin. Then Cal’s friend arrives in town who also happens to be a baseball scout and approaches Ty. Ty believes this is his road to get into the major leagues. Maddie squashes that idea and is furious with Cal, blaming him for getting Ty’s hopes up and not consulting her.

Meanwhile, Bill is trying everything to clean up his act. He purchases tickets to the musical Hamilton so he can bond with Kyle, and spends a beautiful day with Katie where he realizes just how much he misses his family leading to him to ask Maddie to take him back.

Dana Sue sees two men from her past reappear. Micah, her business partner, is in need of money for his sick brother, and asks Dana Sue to buy him out.  And in a sudden twist, we see Isaac put two and two together thinking Micah and Dana Sue may be his biological parents. Dana Sue’s estranged husband, Ronnie, shows up. She needs Ronnie to give her a divorce so she can get her financials in order and help Micah. Ronnie has no intention of giving her a divorce and wants to get back together.

And in a horrible chain of events, prom night ends in horror when Maddie is alerted there’s been a car accident. To everyone’s shock, the wreckage shows Kyle is behind the wheel, unconscious, with an unknown passenger.

Plus, sunshine and light, also known as JoAnna Swisher Garcia, joins the recap, and can’t WAIT to find out what the panel thinks about this dramatic episode. Will Maddie and Bill reunite? Who is the mystery passenger? Will there be a season 2? The panel asks all the questions!

Sweet Magnolias: Episode 9: Where You Find Me

On the morning of the mock trial Kyle’s behavior worries everyone meanwhile Dana Sue meets a handsome farmer.

Kyle is devastated over his unrequited feelings for Annie and Noreen’s departure. On the morning of the trial he forces himself to go to school but goes missing instead sending everyone scrambling. Bill and Maddie are frantic and when Maddies tells Bill to ask Noreen if she’s seen Kyle, Bill tells her Noreen left him. Pastor June Wilkes finds Kyle sitting alone in church. Maddie arrives and he tells her how he feels like no one sees him and thinks if he disappeared how no one would miss him. Maddie is crushed that she didn’t see how much he was struggling.

Ryan comes to the rescue when it comes to Helen’s need for a co-op manager to take over the farm and keep it alive. Dana Sue heads out to the farm with Ryan to meet with the head of the co-op. She’s there to see what the options are and what the co-op can provide Sullivan’s. When she meets “farmer” Jeremy, the man running the co-op, nothing and no one is what she expected.

The mock trial competition goes on without Kyle with Annie filing in for Kyle and being grilled by Ce Ce on the stand. Ce Ce can’t stand seeing Annie and Ty talk and she takes it out on Annie during the trial. The competition goes well, in spite of Kyle’s absence. And Ce Ce gets the award for best defense attorney, making Helen and her father proud.

Cal stops by to check on Maddie, a little disconcerted by Bill’s presence earlier. Maddie makes it clear who she’s got her focus on.

Later, Kyle tells Ty that Noreen has left their dad. Helen and Annie come over and Kyle apologizes to them. While Helen, Dana Sue and Maddie ‘Pour It Out’ Annie and Kyle share being grounded and establish “they’re good.”

When Maddie tells Dana Sue and Helen that Noreen left Bill, they can’t believe it. Maddie says Bill actually stepped up when Kyle went missing and maybe he never did before because she never let him.

Helen and Ryan grow closer unitl she’s confronted with the one thing that could tear them apart.

Plus from the writer’s room, Caron Tschampion, and actress Harlan Drum (Ce Ce Matney) join the panel to talk about episode 9! Caron shares behind the scenes of what goes on in the writer’s room, how they brainstorm story and character, and Harlan shares her love for the character of Ce Ce and how she grew to really understand her.

Sweet Magnolias: Episode 8: What Fools These Mortals Be

Bill continues to make bad decisions, Noreen attends Kyle’s play, and Maddie and Cal take their relationship to the next level.

Bill and Maddie go head to head over Bill getting Ty a new car without consulting her. He continues to make bad choices throughout and Maddie’s anger toward him comes to the surface crystal clear. Noreen’s frustration with feeling second best in Bill’s life grows. Bill proves that “common sense ain’t common” (Helen to the girls during Pour It Out)

Helen is asked by a friend to help him with a farm he’s inherited but has no use for. She’s been tasked to turn it into something good like she did with Miss Frances’ house. She calls Ryan in Africa for some thoughts on the case. He says he can help her out, especially when she finds him on her doorstep

Maddie and Cal take the next step in their relationship!

Erik teaches a lesson of mindfulness to Dana Sue and it’s not what she expects.

Tensions between Kyle and Ty continue to mount over the fallout from Annie.

Kyle is hoping Annie will come to see his play and Dana Sue is convinced to break the “you’re grounded” rule for Kyle’s performance.  Noreen and Bill attend Kyle’s play until Bill is called away by a patient. Noreen is upset that he didn’t make the night and Kyle a priority by putting himself on call. Kyle is disappointed that his father wasn’t there but is surrounded by his family in support. That night, Kyle decides to express to Annie how he feels about her but when he tries to kiss her everything goes wrong when she clearly doesn’t feel the same way.

Noreen makes a surprising decision that will change everyone’s life.

Plus, Jaimie Lynn Spears (Noreen Fitzgibbons) and Logan Allen (Kyle Townsend) join the panel to talk about the drama of episode 8! Jamie Lynn and Logan talk about the unexpected and special friendship that their characters have. And Jamie Lynn tells what the straw was that broke the camel’s back for Noreen while Logan shares that the themes of friendship and communication are his biggest life lesson takeaways from working on the show.

Sweet Magnolias: Episode 7: Hold My Hand

Maddie’s closeness with Cal causes complications, Helen fights for a mock trial student, Noreen receives a welcome visitor, and Erik bonds with Isaac

On a hike together, Erik and Isaac get to know each other better. With Isaac being adopted he tells Erik about the distance between him and his adoptive father after the passing of his mother. In the Sullivan’s kitchen, healing and good food are created as Erik lends his support to Isaac.

Maddie receives her official divorce papers and toasts to new beginnings.

Mary Vaughn confronts coach Cal, Maddie and Bill and accuses Cal of being biased because he’s ‘dancing in the sheets’ with Maddie when she thinks that Ty, instead of her son, Jackson, is starting the biggest game of the season with Castlewood. Things get heated and Cal asks Trotter, “what would Dolly Parton do?” In the end, Ty “takes one for the team” in a move filled with his strength of character.

Noreen’s little brother pays a visit and meets Bill for the first time. Bill finds himself in some financial constraints because of the divorce. The pressures of the future weigh heavy on Bill.

Annie tries to hide getting drunk from her mother but Dana Sue finds out inadvertently because of Ty. Kyle confronts Ty about him kissing Annie and Ty defends himself. Dana Sue grounds Annie and their heart to heart talk strengthens their mother/daughter ties.

Helen meets Ce Ce’s father and begins the good fight to keep her on the mock trial team when he refuses to let her continue.  Helen is able to sway her father and Ce Ce continues with the mock trial team, where she continues to shine.

Plus, Chris Medlin, who plays Isaac Downey, and from the writer’s room, Anthony Epling join the panel to talk about episode 7! Chris talks about how Sweet Magnolias was his first television role, and how he’s looking forward to balancing his career on Broadway with a career in television. And writer Anthony Epling talks about a pivotal scene that never made it to air!

Sweet Magnolias: Episode 6: All Best Intentions

Everyone's best intentions go awry! Cal’s intentions for Maddie conflicts with how Ty views their relationship. Erik’s intentions to help others results in him seeking help himself. Ty’s intention is to keep what happened with Annie a secret, but when it's exposed she blames Ty!

Annie wakes up the next day, remembers kissing Ty and is horrified to hear the audio text she sent Ty. She runs into him after church wanting to clear the air but he avoids her. At school, it’s gotten around how drunk she got and has to deal with people whispering behind her back. Ty shares what happened with Annie with his friend Gabe and plays him the audio. While they’re talking Jackson gets a hold of Ty’s phone and ends up sending the audio text to the baseball team. Ty texts Annie “thought you should” know and Annie is furious. Ty comes over and the two of them argue. She blames Ty saying this all could have been avoided if he’d just talked to her instead of avoiding her. She lies and tells him the kiss didn’t mean anything and kicks him out of her house.

Maddie tells Ty she’s going to dinner with Cal, and meets with Tyler’s disapproval. Maddie and Cal go on their first date and everything is perfect until she gets a call from Bill. The kids had come over to he and Noreen’s for dinner with disastrous results. When Maddie finds out Bill and Noreen ask the kids to be in their wedding, she is furious with Bill. Ty is upset most of all. She and Ty have a heart to heart conversation. Maddie makes it clear she supports whatever Ty wants or doesn’t want to do about being in the wedding.

Erik’s intentions to help others have resulted in him experiencing bouts of PTSD.  We see him attend a meeting for those suffering from PTSD, realizing he needs help. When Isaac hints at knowing about Erik’s past Erik confronts him wanting to know why he’s digging around his past. An upset Isaac confesses he thought Erik might be his father. Erik tells him in no uncertain terms to stop digging around in his past and that he has no children.

Plus, writer and co-EP Shelley Meals, and actors Anneliese Judge (Annie Sullivan) and Dion Johnstone (Erik Whitley) join the after show! Shelley Meals talks about writing the angst, teenage and otherwise, that humanizes all the characters. Anneliese Judge shares that this is her first major role, and gives behind the scenes on how she delved into Annie’s world that is so completely opposite from her own in real life. Dion Johnstone tells about his love for the character of Erik; His complexities and humanity. Dion raises the topics of redemption and healing; How someone as broken as Erik can come out the other side by asking for help. Dion’s hope is that the message of healing is always possible through kindness and compassion.

Sweet Magnolias: Episode 5: Dance First Think Later

Mother nature, a clumsy carpenter, and Maddie’s long-time rival seem to join forces to derail the spa's opening. Tyler helps Annie when she gets in over her head.

Months of hard work are about to pay off as the grand opening of The Corner Spa finally arrives! But mother nature, an unforeseen accident, and petty rivalries threaten to stall or cancel the opening all together. Helen, Dana Sue and Maddie band together and call on the help of friends to get the doors opened in time.  At The Corner Spa opening some surprise guests thrill the ladies while others stir up painful memories. Helen has made sure the opening coincides with Frances Winset’s birthday and it’s a beautiful celebration of heritage, legacy and new beginnings. Maddie and Cal share a dance and Helen and Ryan take their relationship to the next level.

On the other side of town, Mary Vaughn is purposely holding her fundraiser on the same evening as the spa’s opening to raise money for the Serenity highschool baseball team so they can go to the finals. The fundraiser for Ty’s baseball team is a success with Paula winning an auction for a date with coach Cal, and Bill winning the night with making a large donation that will get the team to the finals in style.

The kids follow up the night with an after party of their own at the highschool gymnasium. Annie is feeling out of place and gets convinced by Ce Ce to have a drink that turns into more than one. Fortunately, Ty comes to his friend's rescue and makes sure a very drunk Annie gets home safely. But after she kisses him and  falls asleep, which throws him for a loop, he’s really wigged out when later, still drunk, Annie texts him gushing about the kiss. Ty is freaked out at these turn of events. He’s known her all his life and doesn’t know how to handle what has happened.

Plus, actors Caroline Lagerfelt (Paula Vreeland) and Chris Klein (Bill Townsend) join the after show! Caroline reveals reading the script for the first time and falling in love with Serenity and it’s Sweet Magnolias, and Chris Klein reveals asking showrunner, Sheryl J. Anderson, why she thought he’d be ideal for the egocentric, deeply flawed character of Bill Townsend, and what her surprise answer was!

Sweet Magnolias Episode 3: Give Drink to the Thirsty

Delays in the renovation of the spa begin taking their toll on the ladies, Dana Sue’s stress continues to mount over work and home, Maddie reluctantly strikes a deal with Bill, and Kyle opens up to Noreen

The stress of renovating the The Sweet Magnolia Spa, the centerstone of new beginnings for Maddie, Helen and Dana Sue, begins taking its toll on the women while they continue juggling their own work/family lives. Dana Sue, in particular, feels like she’s losing her best self, sees how she’s alienating everyone she loves, including her daughter and the ladies “let it pour” in support!

Coach Cal continues to encourage Bill and Maddie to come to an agreement about how best to support Tyler as his grades and performance on the baseball team continue to drop. It’s clear that Noreen’s presence at the games is a distraction and Bill must make a painful decision in order to do what’s best for his son.

And the panel is joined by the director of Episode 3, Kelli Williams and actor Justin Bruening who plays coach Cal Maddox! Justin talks how he wanted to make sure his character Cal always remained respectful of Maddie, even is his wet tee shirt, as he navigates his feelings for her, and Kelli shares about the importance of the on set relationship between director and cast and the lightning storm during filming that had she and the cast running for cover!

Sweet Magnolias: Episode 2: A United Front

Maddie consults with Coach Cal about Tyler’s struggles on and off the baseball field and Helen works her magic to put a devastated family back together

The bruises of past pain show up in the present as Dana Sue discovers navigating the stresses of life is becoming more difficult than she imagined.

Maddie’s family is suffering from the repercussions of her splintered family, in particular Tyler who is struggling both on and off the field, and finds Coach Cal has some valuable insights. Maddie leans on the support of her Sweet Magnolias as she tries to figure out how best to begin the healing for her family.

While the ladies of Serenity, Maddie, Helen and Dana Sue, juggle the pressures of life Coach Cal and Chef Whitley charm, protect and provide a kind of respice even if the ladies can’t see it yet.

Showrunner Sheryl Anderson who says “you find the best crew and get out of their way,” and Broadway tony winner Heather Headley, who plays Helen Decatur, join the panel to dive into the richness of Helen’s character, what it means to be that girlfriend who says “Let me get my shovel,”  and how Heather wishes for every woman to “have a Helen in their life.”

Sweet Magnolias: Episode 1: Pour It Out

Meet Serenity! With all eyes on her, Maddie tries to move on with her life after Bill’s affair. Dana Sue has her hands full when troubles in her kitchen begin boiling over. Helen makes a purchase that will change the course of everyone’s life.

With the pain of divorce fresh on her mind and heart, Maddie Townsend begins taking the steps to heal her splintered family. Bill’s affair and now impending child and marriage, leave her with 3 children reeling from the upheaval, no job, and the talk of her hometown, Serenity.

Dana Sue Sullivan runs her kitchen at Sullivans with a firm hand and passionate heart but trouble is brewing in the very place she has always considered her sanctuary. With the threat of a disgruntled employee with an ax to grind, emotional wounds that haven’t healed since the divorce from her husband, and a teenage daughter who is beginning to rebel as she finds her way into adulthood, Dana Sue’s world begins to unravel.

Helen Dacatur is a successful lawyer and champion for her hometown of Serenity.  She’s traveled the world but her heart lies in the community of Serenity and its residents. Fiercely loyal and wickedly smart she fills her days fighting the good fight but there’s an ever growing void in her life. She begins to fill that void when she purchases the Wingate mansion with the idea of turning it into a high end spa. Wanting to go into partnership with Maddie and Dana Sue, is this going to be too much for them to take on?

These are the women at the heart of Sweet Magnolias and the only thing keeping them tethered to some semblance of sanity is leaning on one another, the strength of their friendship, and their weekly “Pour It Out” margarita nights, to navigate the stormy waters.
