Dreams Made Being

Dreams Made Being

This episode is a chat with Laurelann Porter that focused on personal story and dreams. Laurelann Porter is a creative and intuitive healing artist. She works with shamanic energy medicine, dreams, and creative practices. She first heard the call to shamanism over 20 years ago when she read the book Shaman, Healer, Sage, by Alberto Villoldo.  At the time she refused the call because she didn’t see it as a possibility. But a mental and physical health crisis in 2020 led her back to The Four Winds Society, where she trained as a shaman and underwent the deep healing of the medicine wheel. Her unique approach to energy medicine includes what she learned with the Four Winds but also includes the deep reflexive practices of critical autoethnography; creative writing for personal transformation; singing and sound healing; and working with the symbolism of dreams and the tarot. She is committed to helping other people dig deeply to help get them unstuck, advocate for their well-being, and pave the way for them to live their most authentic and creative lives.

The Magic of Ayurveda

The Magic of Ayurveda

Amita is the owner of Surya Health and Wellness, where she practices Ayurvedic medicine and nutrition consulting. Of Indian origin, she received her Ayurvedic education in both India and North America, an experience that has given her a unique perspective and allowed her to remain true to the purity of Ayurvedic knowledge while deeply understanding its application in the Western world. She began her education at the Maharishi School of Ayurveda and Sanskrit Studies in Bangalore, India and completed her Bachelors of Ayurveda at the Maharishi International University in Fairfield, IA. She graduated in 2003 with a Master’s degree from the Florida College of Ayurvedic Medicine. With the support of her two teachers, Dr. Hemant Gupta, BAMS, MD and Dr. Shirish Nathwani, MD, she has been practicing Ayurveda since 2004. Amita works in both traditional and conventional modalities, her speciality being Digestive disorders and Psychology. She begins with digestion and incorporates diet, lifestyle, and—most importantly—state of mind to gain a greater understanding of the whole person. Important to her approach is recognizing stress, grief, addictions, and relationships as factors affecting health. Through a psycho-spiritual approach, she helps each client come to greater understanding and acceptance of life and all its circumstances in order to facilitate the healing process. Amita’s personal experience with the loss of her spouse at an early age has taken her through a journey of self exploration. It is through this, she is able to provide compassion and understanding to those needing to find solace in the uncertainty and impermanence of life. In addition to her private practice, Amita is Adjunct Faculty with the Andrew Weil Center for Integrative Medicine Fellowship at Banner Health, University of Arizona and Faculty at the Phoenix Institute of Herbal Medicine and Acupuncture. In her spare time, Amita trains in Mixed Martial Arts, focused specifically in Muay Thai. When she is not training, she likes to sit for hours doing nothing.

Origin Story

Origin Story

There are roughly 8 billion people inhabiting this planet and the modern world sure looks much different than it once did. The science of our species has evolved to incredible heights in spite of its dependency on electricity and natural resources (our lives along with it to varying degrees.) We have engineered external structures that mirror the ingenuity within. Ancient cultures incorporated technology to similarly meet the needs of each generation despite it looking and feeling different, calling it something else entirely. The theme of inspiration running through both of these ideas comes from our beautifully flawed human consciousness. Before the scientific method became the standard of comparison the power of belief was the basis for whether we lived, died or found the afterlife and more than ever science is catching up to validate a lot of truth found in ancient principles. To this end life lacks coincidence prompting the adage "everything happens for a reason" to have merit when perceived through both objective cause and effect as well as the more abstract awe found "in spirit". The synchromystic podcast is a show that bridges the gap by honoring life's unexplainable miracles with the integration of humanity's best attempts at rational thought and empirical evidence.

Synchromystic is a term coined by Jake Cotze in 2006 which simply stated is "the art of realizing meaningful coincidences in the seemingly mundane with mystical or esoteric significance". This podcast explores the veil of the unseen and its edges through a vast range of topics with the intention to bring it back to spirit without dismissing what is. Come journey with us!
