Teens should cut back on  screen time.

Did you know that teens spend an average of 5-7 hours on their phone a day, most of that time is wasted.  In that time you could have been making memories with your family and friends.  So that's why I think that teens should get off their phones more often.

Many people feel that some apps can promote  physical activity and socializing but actually too much screen time leads to low self esteem.   Additionally in the text it said “the survey results found that snap-chat, Facebook, twitter and Instagram all lead to increased feelings of depression, anxiety, poor body image and loneliness.”  As well as teens are more “likely to do their chatting on the phone, or in person when hanging out in the mall.”  In other example “modern teens are learning to do most of their communication while looking at a screen, not at another person."

Although some people believe that technology can build friendships during gaming and on social media, it has gotten easier to be cruel to others. For instance people compare themselves to other people on Instagram.  It follows that we have more games on our phone which gives us more of a chance to cyberbully.  Finally and most teens are scared to be mean and “real life” so they are more cruel on the internet.

I can understand the pov that people believe that more screen time means more alone time but being on your phone can create a communication barrier.   First of all, it is harder for them to disagree with other people.   Secondly it says in the text that “more direct communication, and if you aren’t used to that it may well feel scary.”  Thirdly, many of them will grow up to be adults and are anxious about our species’ primary means of communication.

Now is  definitely a time to cut back on screen time.because it is healthier for your eyes the levels of radiation from screens are below levels that can cause damage to the eyes such as cataracts.  I encourage you to challenge yourself to stay off your phone.
