Ep 139: Angela Legh | Phoenix Rising: Angela Legh's Path to Emotional Liberation

Ep 139: Angela Legh | Phoenix Rising: Angela Legh's Path to Emotional Liberation

Angela Legh is best known as the author of her children’s fantasy book series, The Bella Santini Chronicles, which gives children and their parents tools and techniques for emotional balance. For over 50 years, Angela experienced abuse, bullying, and belittlement, and through that exposure, she developed emotional management methods. Angela has been featured in USA Today; she is a Los Angeles Tribune newspaper and magazine columnist and has countless other media exposures. Angela is an international bestselling author with ten published books. Her most recent book is a 90-day journal that prompts users into self-love.

Angela is a conscious parenting consultant who has done everything from speaking to high school students about emotional intelligence to cohosting a television show on Thriving Women Network.

Have you asked yourself, "Where did that come from" after a situation where you over reacted or blew up? Emotional triggers happen to all of us but why? How do we change patterns of behaviour that are harmful to us and others? Angela suffered from the tyrrany of an alcoholic father, entered a toxic marriage and in a time of crisis after a wild fire, listened to the angels whispering in her ear to take her first act of self-love.

Key takeaways and questions we discuss: 💥 What is emotional repression and how does it hurt ourselves and others? 💥 How do we feel and express our emotions to heal, without harming others? 💥 When we shift our responsibility through the game game, we become a victim rather than putting ourselves in control. 💥 How can we combine a high level of nurturing with a high level of boundaries and rules for children? 💥 What does emotional well-being mean? 💥 Angela shares countless resources including her up-coming TV show, blog post, website resources, speaking and writing engagements as well as her book series.

In semi-retirement, she maintains her focus to local communities. She also is co-founder of Bart’s Blue Star Foundation non-profit which supports funding opportunities for people on the front lines with children to receive Conscious Discipline training and coaching. Ginny’s most recent accomplishment is the release her book Blue Star Grit: A Mother’s Journey of Triumph and Tragedy Raising a Defiant Child into an Exceptional Leader on May 2, 2023 💥 Through her own experiences and trauma, she helps us see how we can change our approach. 💥 Our response in any moment has an impact on a child – they will mirror us. 💥 The connection we have with them is the key to discipline and what we do in that moment to show empathy or compassion shows them we are a secure person. 💥 Control comes with a cost to connection. Children will blame themselves or us as parents. 💥 How we talk to ourselves is how we talk to children. It reflects our Inner speech. 💥 How many of us are "shouting" our children and provoking shame and guilt? 💥 Peaceful or conscious parenting comes with consequences. We DO NOT give up our limits. Ginny will help us see how we can be assertive, set boundaries and be kind/firm at the same time with concrete examples.

Ep 130: Faust Ruggiero | The Power of Presence: Unlocking Your Child's Inner Dialogue

Ep 130: Faust Ruggiero | The Power of Presence: Unlocking Your Child's Inner Dialogue

How can we connect with our children to better understand and be proactive when it comes to their mental health? Extended communication is always our best ally. That adage, "What children need most is our time" couldn't be a better fit to help us understand what our children are feeling. That time is not as long as we think it needs to be. It's about the connection. Faust A. Ruggiero’s professional career spans almost 40 years. He is a published research author, clinical trainer, and a therapist who has worked in settings that have included clinics for deaf children, prisons, nursing homes, substance abuse centers, inpatient facilities, major corporations, both national and international, and as the President of the Community Psychological Center in Bangor, Pennsylvania. Mr. Ruggiero also provides counseling services for first responders, law enforcement, and other emergency personnel. Following several years of experimentation regarding the various therapeutic approaches that could be applied to clients individually, in families, social relationships, and business and corporate settings, Mr. Ruggiero developed and began utilizing the Process Way of Life Program. The program consists of over fifty internal human processes, which can be accessed and developed to help clients address the various conditions which were affecting their lives. In the summer of 2016, Mr. Ruggiero decided to develop the Process Life Program into a text that can be published, and would help people in need address the difficult situations that are affecting their lives. The Fix Yourself Handbook was completed in December of 2019. His radio show "Fix It With Faust" debuted in June of 2021. https://faustruggiero.com/

💥 Can we try to get away from denial and avoidance behaviors? It can be hard for parents to come to terms with their children's anxiety. No one wants this for their child, and as a result, it can be easy to miss.

💥 If our child is bringing up a complaint, and they are having a difficult time explaining it to us, there may be another problem. We can expand the conversations into other areas of their life to determine if they're hiding anything.

💥 Children don't always express themselves efficiently. This life moves fast, and as a result, anxiety gains momentum quickly.

💥 Is it wise to educate our children, even the younger children, about anxiety, what it feels like, and how to talk about it?

💥 How does validation positively affect our children and how do we respond when we don't agree with their actions or choices?

Ep 125: Sara Olsher | Holding Hands: Supporting Children Through Parental Crises

Ep 125: Sara Olsher | Holding Hands: Supporting Children Through Parental Crises

Sara Olsher is a single mom and cancer survivor, and was chosen as a 2023 Remarkable Woman by Nexstar Media. Sara is the founder of Mighty + Bright, which provides a wealth of information and tools to help overwhelmed parents prioritize mental health for their kids, learning together and incorporating coping skills into day-to-day life. When parents are dealing with something hard, our kids are too. When we’re trying to survive, how do we help our kids through the worst thing that ever happened to them?

When faced with the worst thing that’s ever happened to you, how do you want to show up for yourself — and your family? Sara Olsher is a cancer survivor and also experienced a difficult divorce when her daughter was under 2 years of age.

💥 How do we build a foundation for open communication with our children to support them while we make our way forward? Our children know when something is wrong in our homes, even if they can't identify what it is and often we will see it in their behaviours as they become anxious and worried. 💥 She's developed a multitude of resources for parents to help our children cope, including children's books specifically about cancer and divorce. The mission of her company Mighty + Bright is to raise a resilient generation of kids who can handle life's toughest stuff. Sara learned the hard way that not talking about crises is the opposite of what we should be doing. 💥 Letting people help in times of crisis also gives them the ability to offer care and compassion, as the CEO of her company did for her. 💥 What skills do we need when we're handling fear ourselves?

Ep 113: Pat Butler | Unpacking the Grief of Divorce …Thanks for Leaving Me!

Ep 113: Pat Butler | Unpacking the Grief of Divorce …Thanks for Leaving Me!

"There are many, many wonderful things left in life. And so that's why I wrote, Thanks For Leaving Me." Pat Butler had a blissful life with a wonderful husband and children, and a successful career as a physics, math teacher and training consultant, holding a master's in education. But her world was rocked when her husband suddenly ended the marriage after only two months with another woman. After 41 years together, Pat was left to grieve her loss and learn to live alone.

With the help of a therapist and an understanding of the three stages of transition, Pat found the strength to move forward, eventually remarrying in 2014. She used her experiences to write two books, sharing her journey of resilience and recovery to inspire others in similar situations. In this episode, key points of our discussion are:

💥  How Pat Butler's life changed drastically when her husband left after 40 years of marriage and how she survived the upheaval.

💥  Pat's new book, a "Divorce Journal: A Guided Path to Moving Forward," which she wrote with co-author David Frenkel (a divorce lawyer) and how it helps divorced people move forward.

💥  The importance of the neutral zone in life transitions and how it can help people find self-renewal.

💥  How we support our children when their worlds are being turned upside down through divorce.
