Episode 230 - Challengers & Shogun

Episode 230 - Challengers & Shogun

We're wrapping up the winter and spring and moving into the summer with a double feature I don't think anyone saw coming. We've got the release of Zendaya's first leading feature film with Luca Guadagnino's Challengers, a movie that was supposed to be released in September of last year, as well as the finale of Shogun, the FX/Hulu miniseries that sees political machinations in feudal Japan that almost leads to war, starring Hiroyuki Sanada, Cosmo Jarvis, Anna Sawai & Tadanabo Asano. Kristen and Unyolo Movie Blogs join Dom to break down everything that happens across these two properties in a brand new episode of the #talkintvpodcast

We're already almost done with April and we've got another double feature! Dom and Luk team back up to break down the second Henry Cavill movie of the year, this time with Guy Ritchie for his best attempt at doing Inglourious Basterds "The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare" as well as the next film from the Radio Silence duo "Abigail" about a team of kidnappers who get more than they bargained for when they discover their hostage is a bloodthirsty vampire. It's a double feature for the ages once again on the #talkintvpodcast

Episode 228 - Civil War Fallout Double Feature

We're kicking off April and the last month of Spring before the summer kick off with a dystopic double feature! This time we've got the next film from Alex Garland & A24, "Civil War" as well as Amazon's adaptation of Fallout. Both properties see the country in the near & far future dealing with different types of dystopias, one where the president has assumed the role of a totalitarian dictator and the country has splintered and fighting each other, and the other a more traditional one where society has become split in the wake of a nuclear attack and split between rich people forming peaceful societies in underground bunkers and the survivors basically reforming the wild west on the surface world. Dom & Kristen break down both properties and their respective problems in the wake of a year that's got a LOT of dystopian properties coming out. All of this and more every week on the #talkintvpodcast

Episode 227 - Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire

We're wrapping up March Madness with some madness of our own, that being the next installment in the Monsterverse series, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire. The last time we saw these two titans, they were battling it out for dominance. Now, they've got to team up against an even bigger threat: an EVIL giant orangutan who's got his own pet giant lizard that breathes ice. And you know it's evil because it's got a whip made of skulls and has an evil laugh. Dom is joined by John Maffeo to break down how the movies in this franchise seem to be taking the wrong lessons from other franchises in an all new episode of the #talkintvpodcast

Then we've got the next show from David Benioff & D. B. Weiss of Game of Thrones fame, the 3 Body Problem. This time they're with Netflix, with the adaptation of the novel by the same name from author Liu Cixin, starring Jovan Adepo, Rosalind Chao, Eiza Gonzalez, Jess Hong, Marlo Kelly, Alex Sharp and Benedict Wong, along with returning Game of Thrones alumni John Bradley, Liam Cunningham & Jonathan Pryce. Episode 222 - Netflix's Avatar: The Last Airbender

We're wrapping up February and the two months of mid-winter hell with Netflix's first big contribution to the streaming content of 2024, with their live action adaptation of the beloved "Avatar: The Last Airbender." After M. Night Shyamalan barely made an effort adapting this show 14 years ago, Netflix has decided to be the next person to attempt to profit off arguably the greatest contribution to animation that the world has possibly ever seen. And the results are...interesting to say the least. Dom is joined by Dontre James aka Leonardo DiBlackio, Luk of Luk Reviews and newcomer to the show Brandon Gilbert to discuss everything this show did, right and wrong. It's all covered here on the #talkintvpodcast

Episode 221 - Madame Web, Fantastic Four and more Marvel Updates

It's an interesting weekend. Because while the third weekend of February is usually reserved for a pretty big movie, this weekend we were graced with the destined-to-be-a-meme Madame Web. So rather than devoting an hour publicizing that movie more than it deserved, we instead decided to talk about all of the recent Marvel updates, including the Fantastic Four cast update, the drama between Sony & Marvel over Tom Holland's fourth Spider-Man movie, filming updates on Daredevil: Born Again as well as pending updates on future projects and release dates. Dom is joined by Dontre James aka Tarantino, Unyolo Movie Blogs, Mac Movie Reviews and first timer to the show Karan Khana to break all of this news down and more on the #talkintvpodcast

Dom is up extra early to record with Luk & Gal Balaban to talk about the 49-er's devastating loss to the KC Chiefs, but really to talk about the new trailers that we got last night. In addition to new trailers for The Fall Guy & Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, we got our first look at the upcoming, officially titled "Deadpool & Wolverine." The first look reveals a few things such as Deadpool being recruited by the TVA as well as the reveal of Matthew MacFayden, while also being surprisingly restrained in terms of how little it actually showed. We also talk about the first look trailers for Wicked Part 1 & Twisters. All of this and more every week on the #talkintvpodcast

This is a big one people! Episode 208 - The Marvels & the Killer (w/The Duster)

Episode 208 - The Marvels & the Killer (w/The Duster)

We're back with another fun, MARVELOUS (see what I did there) episode of the Talkin' TV podcast. We're covering both ends of the spectrum today, the thing killing movies and the thing that's trying to help keep them alive. Which is which, who can say? But we've got the Marvels, which I think I can safely say is the first really not-so-anticipated sequel we've covered on this podcast. A sequel to not only the first Captain Marvel, but also to Avengers: Endgame and 3 Disney+ shows, quite a round up we have there. Then, Dustin & I talk about the Killer, the new film from David Fincher that went straight to Netflix. Fincher's a funny guy because he's one of the best filmmakers we have, but he's also the guy who kind of started this new wave of film hell we've been in this last decade when he made House of Cards for Netflix. It's been a weird last couple of years. Keep tuning in as we wind down our biggest season yet only on the #talkintvpodcast

We're in the final home stretch! With only eight episodes to go to conclude this year as well as our fifth season of podcasting, we're kicking it off with another superhero centered one, but it's an important one I think. We check in with the first of a couple returning TV shows, this time it being "Invincible" from Robert Kirkman, starring Steven Yeun as Mark Grayson, the son of alien superhero Omni-Man, who gains the same powers as his father and becomes the titular superhero, only to discover that his father was actually there as an emissary to his alien empire the Viltrumites and was readying Earth for invasion. Season 2 picks up in the aftermath of Mark's earth-shattering fight with his dad, and Dom is joined by Eli Holicky & Unyolo Movie Blogs to discuss it. Then, they talk about the current state of the MCU in the wake of the book "MCU: the Reign of Marvel Studios" being released. It's another action packed episode of the #talkintvpodcast new episodes released every Monday.

Dom is joined by his two Succession co-hosts, Eli Holicky & Dustin "the Duster" Mason, to go over everything the summer of 2023 had to offer, from the slate of movies to the inherent quality of films and whether it even matters, to the various and assorted strikes that raged throughout Hollywood, to the unexpected box office surprises, to what their most unexpected thing that happened was. It's a long one, but a worthwhile one as we recap everything that happened during the summer of 2023 only on the #talkintvpodcast

Episodd 196 - Blue Beetle (w/Tarantino)

The summer is winding down, and we've got one more blockbuster to wrap up the summer season. Unfortunately, it's from DC, but the good news is that it's an origin story that's almost entirely divorced from what came before. Dom is joined once again by Dontre aka DJ Tarantino to discuss the latest film from DC, Blue Beetle starring Xolo Mariduena from Cobra Kai as Jaime Reyes, a hispanic American who is unintentionally chosen as the inheritor of an alien scarab that bonds itself to him and allows him to become the Blue Beetle. The movie certainly had its fair share of flaws, but is a welcome breath of fresh air as far as the stench of DC is concerned. Dontre & Dom break down everything going on in the movie and the wider DC-verse as a whole in this brand new episode of the #talkintvpodcast

Episode 195 - Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Mutant Mayhem (w/Math Teacher Movies)

Wow, it's hard to believe the summer's almost over. But we're at one of the most unique points of the summer, the first weekend of August. It's a unique weekend, because some of the biggest and most popular movies have opened in this slot, including Guardians of the Galaxy, both Suicide Squad movies and most recently Bullet Train. And with this year we have the release of the latest film from a franchise that is hit or miss to say the least, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem. This time the turtles are animated and produced by Seth Rogen, as well as having adopted the animation style of Into the Spiderverse and the mannerisms of zoomers. Dom & Sean of Math Teacher Movies break down everything there is to know and love about this latest summer effort right here on the #talkintvpodcast

Episode 194 - Oppenheimer & Barbie Extravaganza (w/Luk Reviews & Luisa Tascone)

Episode 194 - Oppenheimer & Barbie Extravaganza (w/Luk Reviews & Luisa Tascone)

It's the movie event of the summer! And possibly the last, with the ongoing SAG-Aftra strike causing an industry wide shutdown and preventing stars from doing press, attending premieres, promoting or starring in any of the films they star in. Several films have been delayed with productions grinding to a halt, which makes the double release that occured this weekend even more special, with the simultaneous release of Greta Gerwig's "Barbie" and Christopher Nolan's "Oppenheimer." One is a pastel fueled, feminist take on a toy icon, the other is a dreary, existential biopic about one of America's most important yet unknown figures. I'll let you guys figure out which is which. Dom is joined by Luk Reviews and first time guest Luisa Tascone to break down these two wildly different movies, what makes this event so huge and more on today's episode of the #talkintvpodcast

Episode 193 - Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part 1 (w/Luk Reviews)

Episode 193 - Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part 1 (w/Luk Reviews)

The next mission has arrived. Dom is joined by Luk of Luk Reviews to break down one of the most anticipated movies of the summer, following in the wave that Top Gun: Maverick set last summer for Cruise as the anointed savior of Hollywood, the 7th film in the Mission Impossible series, Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part 1. The Mission Impossible series has been going on a long time, since the 90's, and up until recently has featured a different director bringing their unique style to each film, the likes of which have included Brian DePalma, John Woo, JJ Abrams & Brad Bird. This is the third Mission Impossible movie directed by Christopher McQuarrie, and this time sees Cruise's Ethan Hunt going up against an enemy the likes of which they've never faced before: artificial intelligence. No, I am not making that up. Dom & Luk break down exactly what makes this entry different than the last few entries, whether the changes are really worth it, and what the lasting impact of this franchise will ultimately be going forward. Episode 192 - Joy Ride & the state of Comedy (w/the Duster)

Episode 192 - Joy Ride & the state of Comedy (w/the Duster)

A rather necessary surprise. Dustin "The Duster" Mason joins Dom to talk about one of the most unexpected surprises of the year: an R-rated studio comedy that went to theaters and was hysterically funny. Despite not being as good as some of the gems we've gotten in the past, "Joy Ride" the directorial debut of Adele Lim, with a script by Cherry Chevapravatdumrong & Teresa Hsiao, sees four Asian American women journeying throughout China in search of one of their birth mothers, as the one girl, Audrey (Ashley Park) was adopted by white parents as an infant. The film delivers with a rock solid cast, a simple enough premise and enough laughs to keep people going for the brisk, tight 90 minutes. Dom & Dustin compare this to some of their favorite comedies of the past, why studios seem so afraid to touch comedy now, and what exactly the key is to bringing one of people's favorite genres of film back. Happy fourth of July everyone! We're back with the next installment of our summer series, and this time we have the return of another icon that Lucasfilm is intent on destroying, the one and only Indiana Jones with "Indiana Jones & the Dial of Destiny." Taking place in 1969, Indiana Jones is facing retirement when someone from his past returns and whisks him away on another adventure to recover Archimedes' Dial of Destiny, which can supposedly transport its user through time. But of course, the Nazis are after it as well, this time led by Mads Mikkelson's Jurgen Voller. Dom & Luk break down all the ways in which this film compares to its predecessors, and what it gets so very wrong. Keep tuning in for more episodes every week on the #talkintvpodcast

Episode 189 - The Flash & Elemental (w/Tarantino & Unyolo Movie Blogs)

Episode 189 - The Flash & Elemental (w/Tarantino & Unyolo Movie Blogs)

It's arguably the most hyped up movie event of the summer. The true end of the DCEU as we know it. Dom is joined by Dontre James aka Tarantino & Unyolo Movie Blogs to break down arguably the most fascinating and most talked about superhero movie going into 2023: DC & Andres Muschetti's "The Flash." After years of going through different directors, problematic stars, shifting CEO's, Covid delays, the movie was finally released to mixed reactions and reviews, some of which seemed already prejudiced against star Ezra Miller due to his questionable antics outside of production; some of which seemed to praise the movie but acknowledge that with the pending reset that James Gunn & Peter Saffron plan on executing as the new heads of DC, the movie seemed rather pointless. The film follows Barry Allen after the events of Justice League discovering that he has the ability to travel through time, which would allow him to reset certain events from the past, including saving the life of his mother who was tragically murdered. He is able to do this, but discovers that his actions tampering with the past have caused significant changes to the present, including a different Batman played once again by legacy actor Michael Keaton, Supergirl rather than Superman, and the pending invasion of General Zod & the Kryptonian forces from "Man of Steel." Dom, Dontre & Unyolo break down everything with the movie, what the actual consensus is despite the hype, and whether it's worth watching at all. Then, Dom talks briefly about the new Pixar original film, Elemental, and how harsh critics are being with what is otherwise a very good film. Episode 188 - Transformers: Rise of the Beasts (w/Luk Reviews)

Episode 188 - Transformers: Rise of the Beasts (w/Luk Reviews)

We're back with the next installment of our summer series, and this time we're returning to one of our respective favorite settings. Dom is joined by Luk of Luk Reviews to break down the first live action Transformers installment since 2018's Bumblebee, "Transformers: Rise of the Beasts." Directed by Stephen Caples, Jr. of Creed II fame, this installment takes place in 1994 and sees the Autobots attempting to claim the Transwarp Key which would allow them to return home to Cybertron after they've been marooned on Earth. Along for the ride is disgraced former military operative turned car thief Noah Diaz (Anthony Ramos) and museum intern Elena Wallace (Dominique Fishback), as they help the Autobots interact with the Maximals, a separate race of Transformers that transform into animals rather than cars and trucks. Together, these two factions face off against the Terrorcons, who seek to claim the Transwarp key for their master, the planet devourer Unicron. The film features a voice cast that includes the likes of Peter Cullen, Ron Perlman, Pete Davidson, Michelle Yeoh, Peter Dinklage, Cristo Fernandez & Colman Domingo. Dom & Luk break down how this compares to the previous installments in the series, what this film lacks versus how it honors the Beast Wars cartoon, and where it ranks for them in the Transformers canon. Episode 187 - Spider-Man: Across the Spiderverse (w/Luk Reviews)

Episode 187 - Spider-Man: Across the Spiderverse (w/Luk Reviews)

The summer movie season's only just begun and we already may have the best movie of the year. Dom is joined by longetime collaborator Luk of Luk Reviews to discuss the much anticipated sequel to 2018's "Into the Spiderverse" with Spider-Man: Across the Spiderverse. Picking up shortly after the events of the first film, Miles Morales (Shameik Moore) is once again sucked into the Multiverse when former ally Gwen Stacy (Hailee Steinfeld) visits him to recruit him to track down a new interdimensional villain known as the Spot (Jason Schwartzmann). Along for the ride, Miles reteams with fellow ally Peter B. Parker (Jake Johnson) as he is introduced to the infinite number of Spider-people within the interdimensional Spider Society, co-lead by Miguel O'Hara/Spider-Man 2099 (Oscar Isaac) & Jessica Drew (Issa Rae), where he discovers that there is much more at stake than just another villain of the week, which causes him to question his role as Spider-Man. It all makes for an animated film experience the likes of which nobody has ever seen, all of which we cover this week on the #talkintvpodcast

Episode 186 - Succession & Barry Series Finales (w/the Duster & Eli Holicky)

Episode 186 - Succession & Barry Series Finales (w/the Duster & Eli Holicky)

It's the end of an era, truly. Dustin "The Duster" Mason & Eli Holicky join Dom to break down not just one, but TWO series finales for arguably the two greatest shows of the last couple of years. Both HBO originals, both incredibly original, both took the world by storm the last few years, and both of which are the last of an incredible run of HBO, as it has now been dropped from the title of the new streaming service enacted by the recently merged Discovery & Time Warner streaming service "Max." The two shows both wrapped their fourth and final seasons respectively. The Roys are in a final battle to sway the board to crash the pending takeover by tech CEO Lukas Mattson, but final revelations and backroom dealings provide a twist that comes out of nowhere and leaves the Roys with a lot less than they thought. Barry meanwhile is hot on the trail of Fuches & Hank who have kidnapped Sally & John, while Gene Cousineau finally confronts how his relationship with Barry has changed his life. We will miss both of these shows a lot, they've both had a marked effect on our TV watching the last couple of years. Be sure to keep tuning in to new episodes of the #talkintvpodcast as we continue our summer series, continuing next week with Spider-Man: Across the Spiderverse!

Episode 185 - Fast X (w/Luk Reviews)

Episode 185 - Fast X (w/Luk Reviews)

The second installment in the 2023 summer series concerns another long running franchise that we love, Fast & Furious. Back in 2021, Dom & Chris watched all 9 Fast & Furious movies leading up to the pending ninth installment. Little did they know what was on the horizon. Now, Dom is joined by Luk of Luk Reviews to break down the 10th installment in this 20 year running franchise, entitled Fast X, which was recently announced to be the first in a planned trilogy to supposedly conclude the franchise. Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) & the rest of the family are up against their most dangerous foe yet, in the form of Dante Reyes (Jason Momoa) the insane son of drug kingpin Hernan Reyes, their foe from their heist in Rio de Janeiro in the fifth movie. Reyes, seeking revenge, splits up the family across all corners of the globe, framing them for a series of crimes all with the intent of torturing Dominic before he delivers the killing blow. It allows for pretty much every member of the fast family to make an appearance here, including some faces that one thought had left, all to deliver an experience that may not be exactly what people are expecting.
