Episode 75: W(h)olistic Women's Health with Dr Monique Brotman, OB/GYN

Episode 75: W(h)olistic Women's Health with Dr Monique Brotman, OB/GYN

I can't wait for you to hear my conversation with Dr Monique Brotman! She's a board certified OB/GYN who goes above and beyond to treat her patients w(h)olistically. I wish I had known her when several of my friends were going through pre/post menopausal issues and needed  support. Now, I'm so grateful to be able to share her expertise with all of you.

Dr Brotman wears many hats. She guides and supports her patients on women's health issues, delivers babies, performs robotic surgeries, serves as the backup for a group of local midwives and does religious circumcisions for her Jewish community.

Check out these links to learn more about each of her areas of expertise:

Now a short message about two of my passion projects:

  1. If you are in the market for a whole food supplement, please take a moment to learn about Juice Plus+. It's real fruits and veggies in a capsule or a gummy!
  2. If you are picky about your skincare, you have to try Radical Skincare. I was very happy with my former brand and then I did a podcast with the Liz Edlich, the CEO of Radical. I was taken by the story behind the brand and decided to try just one product - the detox mask. I was amazed by the ease of it and the results! I have completely switched over my skincare regime and am having a blast sharing with friends. The products follow EU standards and are plant-based, just as they should be. You can get 10% off every time you shop, by using my discount code: tamara.ortegel10.

Episode 63: Splitting Time Between Two Homes with Pat Hoogendoorn

Episode 63: Splitting Time Between Two Homes with Pat Hoogendoorn

Are you dreaming of splitting your time between two or more locations?

Twenty+ years ago, Pat visited her best friend in Florida and fell in love with the climate. She traveled to the sunshine state several times throughout the year and eventually decided to get her own place. Having suffered with arthritic pain, the warmer weather was just the reprieve she needed during the winter season. Over time, she found she really enjoyed late fall and early spring. Today she spends half her time at her condo on the beach.

What's special about her story is that Pat ventured out on her own before it became trendy. Her husband of 55 years still enjoys living and working full-time in Chicago, so they have given each other the freedom to satisfy their own wants and needs, while maintaining a loving and resilient bond. Pat loves summers in Chicago and rather seamlessly re-establishes herself each spring. And, of course her husband and family come to visit her in Florida throughout her stay.

To learn more about this growing trend, read this article Living Apart Together.

As Pat mentioned in our podcast, she is guided by her faith and loves the following bible verses: Psalm 119:89-90 God’s faithfulness endures to all generations.  Psalm 50:1 “The mighty One, God, Yahweh speaks and calls the earth from sunrise to sunset”  Acts 20:35 …”It is better to give than to receive.”

Episode 60: Beautiful Faces Going Places - Women's Success Network with Carol Dockum

Carol Dockum's Beautiful Faces Going Places - Women Success Network is more than just a business directory, it's a visibility, education and connection platform for speakers, trainers, coaches, etc. to showcase their expertise. They offer in-person events such as  lunch and learns, empower hours, summits, virtual business weeks, webinars and so much more.

Beautiful Faces Going Places is affordable, convenient and enriching.  Who knew that going virtual would help business owners connect more authentically than in-person, but that has been my experience with this group and I’m thrilled to invite you to join us by clicking here. You can also join the facebook group by clicking here

I have one testimonial I'm thrilled to share. I recently needed a graphic designer to create my podcast cover art. Carol connected me to one of her members and within a couple of hours I had a beautiful end product. If you're in the market for a graphic designer or virtual assistant, please reach out to Rhonda Holscher. She's amazing!

One of Carol's favorites quotes (and mine) by Maya Angelou is, "at the end of the day people won't remember what you said or did, they will remember how you made them feel." Carol and her success team truly know how to make you feel welcome and empowered.

Proven Purpose Formula: A Masterclass for Women 40+ Seeking Clarity and Direction in the Second Half - 2 min Infomercial

Proven Purpose Formula: A Masterclass for Women 40+ Seeking Clarity and Direction in the Second Half - 2 min Infomercial

If you are like most people, your goal in life is to be happy.  And contrary to what some believe, money is NOT the key to happiness.

So what is?  Research shows that one of the biggest factors to increase happiness is living a life of purpose. What does that mean?

What if you could…

  • Stop living in the past and feel hopeful about the future?
  • Take charge of your life instead of letting life happen to you?
  • Know exactly why you’re here now and what you’re meant to do next?
  • Own your value and contribution at this stage of your life?
  • Wake up every morning excited to face the day?
  • Show up with passion and confidence?

That’s how you feel when you know your life’s purpose. And research shows having a clear sense of purpose helps us live longer, healthier, more fulfilled lives.

That’s why I was excited to hear my friend and colleague, Midlife Empowerment Coach Hélène Stelian, is sharing her tested and proven Purpose Formula in her brand-new training

Proven Purpose Formula:
A Masterclass for Women 40+ Seeking Clarity and Direction in the Second Half

Save my seat!

In this masterclass, you’ll discover…

  • The one-word definition of purpose
  • The five critical aspects of purpose, like… (Hint: We don’t “find” purpose)
  • The step-by-step purpose formula that’s your ticket to clarity
  • The exact steps to create your own purpose statement—and change your life!
  • How to write your own purpose statement
  • And much, much more!

Hélène is offering this masterclass live only on Saturday September 18, 2-3:30pm US Central time.

Don’t miss out! Sign up for Proven Purpose Formula: A Masterclass for Women 40+ Seeking Clarity and Direction in the Second Half.

Save my seat!

Knowing your purpose is the first step toward creating a life of joy and fulfillment. You have a choice. You can keep living by default, or you can take a bold step into a life of purpose.

I hope you’ll let Hélène show you how!

Xo,

Tamara

Episode 59: Savoring Creativity & Wanderlust with Nancy Donatelli, a Spiritual Adventurer

I believe there are no coincidences and that God puts people in our lives for a reason. Nancy appeared in my season of downsizing & empty nesting to help me gain clarity and confidence to pursue my passions. She is just a little ahead of me on this journey and has already given me insights and faith that this stage of life can be everything I've imagined. We are kindred spirits -- seeking knowledge, experience and connection. You will be dazzled by her stories and her commitment to lifelong learning. If you are feeling wanderlust - you are not alone.

Episode 58: Brain Health & More with Jan Saran

Episode 58: Brain Health & More with Jan Saran

Many moons ago, Thomas Edison said, "the doctor of the future will give no medication, but will interest his patients in the care of the human frame, diet and the cause and prevention of disease." More and more I see glimpses of this and it is gives me hope for a better future. I believe in complimentary medicine where we can combine the best of treatments for health and wellbeing. Whether you have optimal health or are struggling right now, every time you eat or drink, you have the opportunity to feed disease or fight it.

I take and share a product called Juice Plus+ because it offers me 30 different fruits, veggies and berries in a capsule or a gummy. I eat a lot of plants already, but cannot eat 9-13 servings in that variety on a consistent basis. Juice Plus+ helps to bridge the gap. I also love growing some of my own plants via the Tower Garden. It's aeroponic and super easy to grow leafy greens, peppers, tomatoes, cucumbers and so much more right on my balcony. This year for the first time, I'll bring my tower inside and grow my garden with lights.

Listen to Jan and I chat about the benefits of eating lots of plants and some of the studies Juice Plus+ has published on brain health and the immune system. Click on the link for summaries of the 40+ clinical research studies they've done so far. I absolutely love that this product -- it's real food and gets right into the cells of my body to help me stay healthy.

Learn more about the Tower Garden by watching these youtube videos of Jan and me.

Special Edition: Gluten-Free Challenge & Shred 10 Program

Special Edition: Gluten-Free Challenge & Shred 10 Program

This special edition is for anyone looking to jump-start a gluten-free lifestyle and/or for those participating in the Shred 10 program. I have been eating gluten-free since 2015 and want to make the transition as easy as possible for anyone looking to give it a try. After you listen to this podcast, please let me know if you would like a copy of the Gluten-Free Challenge pdf that includes a great shopping list and more recipes. I also have a journal you might enjoy using for mindfulness and to document your food (in)tolerances.

The Shred 10 is a program run by my Juice Plus+ partners. Participants are asked to think of 10 habits they would like to add, reduce or eliminate for 10 days. We always recommend eating gluten-free and dairy-free during this program in order to lower inflammation and to regulate ph balance. The goal is to eat real food in its whole form, to maximize your nutrient intake and stimulate your bodies natural cleansing process. While you're detoxing from foods, you might also consider how you are affected by other stressors in your life including the environment, personal care products, relationships, etc.

My Shred 10 usually consists of the following habits:

Add:

  1. Drink 64 oz of plain water
  2. Eat more plant and animal protein
  3. Eat 1-2 smoothies per day
  4. Retire to bed 30 minutes earlier than usual and with the goal of sleeping 8 hours per night

Reduce

  1. Alcohol (I give myself permission to have one (1/2 glass) of wine if I'm socializing with friends during my shred)
  2. Screen time
  3. Interaction with people who tempt me and/or test my patience

Eliminate

  1. Gluten
  2. Dairy
  3. Breakfast (I use an eating window of 10:00 - 7:00)

If you would like to learn more about the Shred 10 program, please watch this short video. If you want a deeper understanding, also watch this video. If these videos inspire you to take action, please visit my Juice Plus+ website and then reach out to talk about next steps. I would be honored to support you along the way.

Episode 50: Impact of the Pandemic on Kids with Don Seidman, MD

We cannot under estimate the impact the pandemic has had on our kids. Thankfully, professional resources are available to offer them support and guidance. I just complete a certification program on resilience and would like to offer some initial thoughts.

To begin, in order to have the energy and capacity to deal with tough mental and emotional issues, we need to have strong physical stamina. This requires deep sleep, conscious eating and daily movement.

To enjoy deep sleep, create an environment that fosters it. Here are some initial ideas for you to try.

  1. Remove ALL technology including TV's, Computers and Cell Phones from the bedroom.
  2. Turn the wifi in the house OFF at night, if possible, or at least shut down computers and put cell phones on airplane mode (outside the bedroom).
  3. Pack up your school or professional work and remove it from your bedroom.
  4. Dim the lights 30+ minutes before bed to prepare your mind for rest.
  5. Keep a gratitude journal next to your bed and write down three positive things that happened that day. Let these be your thoughts as you close your eyes and prepare for a dream state.

If you'd like to chat about conscious eating, daily movement and other habits that cultivate resilience, please reach out to me.

Episode 49: Resilient By Design with Monica Bodurka

Episode 49: Resilient By Design with Monica Bodurka

Resilience is not something we are born with, it's a set of skills we inhabit. Anyone can learn to be more resilient - given the interest and commitment to lifelong learning and self-love.

Monica and her team at the Leadership Wellness Group developed a curriculum called Resilient by Design that I attended over the last few months. It was a wonderful diversion for me during the pandemic to focus on my own wellbeing and learn something new I could share with all of you. Admittedly, these concepts are not new, but we are human and need to hear them over and over again until they stick.

If you would like help in this area, please reach out. I got so much out of this experience and would be happy to make a referral to Monica's program or share my own rendition of it with you. My mission or mantra, if you will, is LOVE, PLAY, GROW. The habits of resilience are nicely embedded within these concepts I'm using in my coaching practice.

If you are available on July 8th from 10 -4, please join me for a day at Soul Farm called Resilience Cultivated in Nature. Click on this link to learn more.

Episode 45: Dr Michael Meersman

Dr Michael Meersman, DC, MS, ART focuses on the treatment of musculoskeletal injuries, and getting people out of pain and back in control of their daily life. He is certified in Active Release Technique (ART), a soft tissue technique designed to decrease muscle pain and tightness, while increasing range of motion and function.

I have been working with Dr Meersman to complete my recovery from frozen shoulder. By utilizing an array of modalities like the ones offered at the Bannockburn Chiropractic & Sports Injury Center, I have been able to heal much faster than other people suffering from frozen shoulder.

It’s clear when you visit the office that they are up to date on ways to bring natural function back to the body. They have a pilates reformer and an open area for working through exercises. I always leave my appointments with stretches or movements I can do to continue my progress at home.

I feel empowered to take back control of my health and am proud of the work I’ve done to get here. I’ve done acupuncture, dry needling, cupping, hot yoga, physical therapy and chiropractic care.

I also did an interesting treatment called Platelet-Rich Plasma therapy in my doctor’s office. PRP has long been used by physicians to help speed wound healing and treat health issues like arthritis and injuries to muscles, tendons and ligaments. They don’t normally use it for shoulders, but I wanted to give it a try in order to heal my body from the inside out and I personally believe it helped some.

I’m grateful for everyone on my healing team and am super excited for you to learn more about Dr Meerman. In addition to working in the office, he is the team chiropractor for the Chicago Bears. If he can work to help endurance athletes stay well, I know he can help novices like you and me.

Spending time at the family farm was such an integral part of Judi's childhood. Years later, when she inherited the farm, she knew she had to share this magical place with others. She aptly named it Soul Farm Retreats as it has presented her and friends of the farm with opportunities for reflection, personal growth and renewal. If you are seeking an opportunity to slow down and enjoy nature, this is the place for you.

I am thrilled to announce that Judi and I will co-lead an event on Thursday, July 8th from 10 am - 4 pm. Our day on the farm, Resilience Cultivated in Nature, will feature her signature horse yoga experience where we will learn about non-verbal communication and energy exchange, time in the woods, discussions on resilience and a yoga practice by the pond. A light lunch and snacks are included. The retreat is $125 and includes a Soul Inspired Box filled with things to inspire you to love, play and grow. To register, please go to www.soulfarmretreats.com. If you have any questions, please email me at tamara.ortegel@att.net or send me a private message on facebook or instagram. With more than 30 years of executive leadership experience in both public and private sector environments, Kirk McCarley, The Seed Sower Coach, has a solid reputation for fostering individual growth and development beyond the client’s expectation. You will find him enthusiastic while also contemplative; determined, yet relaxed. His passion as a coach is to help clients celebrate self-confidence and achieve their full God-given potential.

Kirk is a Certified Accredited Professional Coach as well as Professional in Human Resources (PHR) and SHRM-CP certified. He also is a Production Assistant for both college football and basketball for ESPN and leads group cycling classes as a Certified Spinning Instructor.

Kirk has been married to wife Cindy for 41 years and has two children and two grandchildren. The McCarleys make their home in Florida with rescue dog, Ivy.

I had the pleasure of connecting with Kirk after a trip to Florida. Our podcast today is proof that you can make new connections where ever you go (even during a pandemic) if you are genuinely interested in meeting new people and curious about their work.
