James Braxton's childhood was filled with trauma. 

• Exposed to porn at nine years old 
• Attending strip clubs at 13 years old
• Kicked out of his home in the 8th grade

Michael Davis never felt like he fit in and was ridiculed at a young age causing him to develop low self esteem. After his parents divorce he became depressed. Having a family member incarcerated is an emotional toll on the entire family. In this episode Ngeri Nnachi shares how her brother's incarceration sometimes leaves her emotionally and mentally drained. Julie Carden found herself with an unwanted pregnancy at the age of 14 years old. Her home wasn’t a safe place for her to share the news. Julie made the tough decision to terminate her pregnancy.

Amya discovered she was pregnant at the age of 16 years old. Even though the pregnancy was not planned, the now 17 year old mom is entering into her senior year with a 3.9 GPA. With the support and love from family, she is planning to attend Howard University after graduation and her son is her motivation.

Today on "Beyond Surviving with Tammie" guest Dominic Carter shared his struggle with past addiction with alcohol, sex and rap music. Dominic's father left to pursue a music career when Dominic was nine years old however he never returned home. As a coping mechanism to his pain from his father's departure Dominic turned to alcohol and pornography.  He idolized rappers and tried to mimic the rap lifestyle.

NaQuetta Nikia described her life as a military wife as “living in a house of horrors”  Cameras constantly watching her and not even being allowed to check the mail without having to endure mental, emotional and physical abuse.  

She escaped with only a bag full of clothes for herself and her 4 year old daughter.   

Her abuser remarried, unfortunately his new wife was unable escape. We send prayers and condolences to the family.

This morning, I sat down with Dr. Shawnrell Blackwell, PH.D from Avail Counseling and work through emotions dealing with loss and grief.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Like many of my followers and listeners I have lost some individuals close to me this year. ⠀⠀

However, loss is not only from death. We discussed  another loss that I have dealt with for the past several years. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
