Don't quit. Keep trying.

You have NOT "tried it all". I have not found every healing modality with promise, so I doubt you have tried more than I have found so far.

OTR is all about finding a better mouse trap.

If Theo Fleury is a fan of the Harmonic Egg, that's good enough for me. He's spent over 1M on different therapies, so he knows what works and what does not.

Ep. #316. Little Warriors, Wanda Polzin Holman

This is one of the most important conversations I've ever had.

The link between Childhood Trauma, and the Veteran / First Responder world is significant on two main fronts.

Stigma Kills. Open, honest, and clear language must be used to crush stigma.

Child Rape is not rare. It is rampant, insidious, and not understood.

By sharing this episode, you very well might be saving a child from a predator.

By listening to, and learning from this episode, you'll be empowered to help prevent child rape.

Predators are running free under the cover of darkness. Only by shining a light can they be stopped. Predators are helpless in the sunlight, so help shine the light by sharing this episode.

EP# 60. Why We Remember

EP# 60. Why We Remember

This is a spoken-word piece I wrote last year.  It was narrated by Mayors across the country, and published in numerous papers, including the Toronto Star.

If you wish to read this at your school, or your remembrance day ceremony, please go ahead.  If you could pop me a note to let me know, that would be appreciated.

Why we remember

To remember not only the fallen, but the sacrifices made by the living who have experienced horrors which are simply beyond the comprehension of the unindoctrinated.

To acknowledge the sacrifice made by the families  of the fallen, and of all those who have served and who are still serving.

Because nobody ever truly comes home from War. Only a version of yourself returns. A haunted version, whose very soul has been irreversibly stained by the realization that Satan is in fact real, and he does indeed cajole decent people into doing awful things.

It’s the understanding of how unspeakably horrible one person can be to another. War forever taints’ you. Witnessing a flagrant disregard for the sanctity of life is not something you can unsee. It is this stain which affects every aspect of your civilian life, often for the rest of your life.

We remember our soldiers because they bear a terrible burden, so that others will never have to carry the painful weight of freedom.

To acknowledge the privilege we enjoy, of living in a peaceful country where our children can safely walk to school without the fear of their school being bombed.

We remember, because we acknowledge that we can’t ever fully appreciate the sacrifices, so we remember in lieu of understanding.

We remember, because it’s the best we can do, and the least we should do to honor our Soldiers, Sailors, and Airmen both past and present.

We remember, because they likely know the unforgettable smell of burning human flesh, and the sound of the screams of the burning.

We remember them, because they can not forget.

We remember, because the survivors often struggle from debilitating depression, relentless nightmares,  and uncontrollable anger.

We remember because Veterans are at a much higher risk of suicide.

We remember them, because many of them can never find peace.

We remember them, because we don’t carry the burden of becoming them.

On November the 11th, we will remove our hats,  stand for our two minutes of silence, and we will remember them.

Episode #309. Religion & Politics...yes it can be talked about

Episode #309. Religion & Politics...yes it can be talked about

It doesn't have to be a fight.

If voices are raised, if emotions are engaged, ...you're not having a productive conversation....you're just in a fight.

Demanding that you are "right" doesn't add to your argument, it diminishes it.

The only "right" to insist on is the truth. If you can't pursue the truth with someone who holds deeply different views than yourself, then you're just defending your beliefs...not facts.

Would you rather know the actual truth...or would you just prefer to feel superior in your ability to argue?

I choose the former, and I hope you do too.

If you agree, please share the heck out of this.

Ep. #308. Dr. Eugene Lipov, Stellate Ganglion Block and Ketamine.

It's PTSI (itsptsi.com) Biological PTSD Treatment | SGB injection for PTSD | Stella (stellacenter.com) PTSD is an injury that can be treated.

In psychology, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is defined as a response to experiencing traumatic or stressful events that create feelings of horror or helplessness. A neuroscience-informed view suggests that what has been called PTSD is in fact a biological injury that can be seen through brain scans.

Though PTSD is a common term mental healthcare professionals use, Stella and others have suggested a new term – Post Traumatic Stress Injury (PSTI) – instead of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. By talking about Post-Traumatic Stress as an injury, we can reduce stigmas around healing.

At Stella, we have a range of proven treatments for the symptoms and conditions associated with trauma exposure. While many mental healthcare resources highlight the 17 most common PTSD symptoms, there are actually more.

The mine strike severed both of his legs below the knee, and blinded his left eye.

To this day, Tommy has to prove that his legs have not grown back, and his eye is still blind.

Ep. #298 How far is too far with inclusivity?

Ep. #298 How far is too far with inclusivity?

Is it even possible to go too far?

I love the idea of inclusivity. I grew up being bullied, isolated, and left out. I don't want ANYONE to feel that way.

And...should a group bend to the will of an individual because of a preference? How about if an individual has a need?

In the case of someone being deaf, blind, or wheelchair bound, I think it's clear that the group should bend to the individual.

If a person has a mere "preference", which is contrary to the group, then I believe the polite thing to do is concede to the majority.

Am I wrong? Am I right? Are there other options, or factors to consider?

Please join the conversation.

Ep. #295. I am a Freemason. Here is my confession.

Ep. #295. I am a Freemason. Here is my confession.

Ep. #295. I am a Freemason. Here is my confession.

I've been out of the lodge since 2012, and I do toy with the idea of joining again.

Since 2006, I've heard every accusation against the Masons that I can imagine. The most common is that we run the world and/or worship the devil. What I find is that once peoples minds have been made up, that's it. No discussion can be had.

To diminish the fact that I'm an ACTUAL Mason, it's always the same comment: "you just didn't get high enough to learn the truth". This has ALWAYS been said to me as a statement, never once has anyone ever asked, "did you make it to the highest levels?" People prefer to assume, instead of ask.

I was a Master Mason, sat as a Senior Warden, and was elected to be Master of the lodge, Sherwood #183.

Masonry does not have a vertical hierarchy. Instead, we have a system of lateral progression, which is baffling to most folks. We don't hold office above each other. Instead, we walk WITH each other as guides on our journey.

Our system is a threat to the notion of hierarchal establishments. It's little wonder that we are attacked so often, and so viciously.

Are all Freemasons good people? Nope. Definitely not. Just like EVERY group of people, we have some bad apples, and a whole lot of good eggs. Veterans, Police, Nurses, Trades people, Politicians, ....all are groups of individuals. Some are bad, some are good.

The lessons of freemasonry however are wonderful. Faith, Hope, Charity. Good stuff. Brotherly love, and harmony. Very good stuff.

I hope you enjoyed this episode. Be well.

Ep. #294. What is Emotional Abuse?

Ep. #294. What is Emotional Abuse?

What is abuse?

Abusers rarely, if ever realize they are abusive.  If you call them out on their behavior, they will often react with something to the tune of, “You’re too sensitive, suck it up, quit your whining”.

If you point out their lack of empathy, they will simply deny your claim and trivialize your concerns. Or, they may justify their lack of empathy by stating that you are not “deserving” of empathy.

Abusers are often heard to be judging others, especially those who disagree with them.  Any opposition to their view-point  is met with insults of some sort. They’ll say things like:

  • Read a book once in a while (to suggest you are uninformed, or uneducated)

  • Oh, did you read that on the internet? (assuming your source of information is inferior to theirs…even though they use the same methods that you do.)

  • And where did you get YOUR masters degree in this topic? (attacking your credibility, and ignoring the fact that if you can read, or if you can listen to actual experts, then you can be informed.  Also…where is THEIR masters degree in the same topic they say you’re not able to have an opinion on?)

  • Or, they will react with a trivializing label to lump you into a category they deem to be inferior to themselves. Such as; conspiracy theorist, lib-tard, far right, far left, tin foil hat, extremist, etc…

Abusers tell you through their actions or words that YOUR opinion does not matter.  Your thoughts are not worth consideration, and your voice is not worth listening to.  If your thoughts and voice have no value to an abuser, then neither does your very existence.

In every genocide, groups of people have been trivialized as not worth listening to, not worth empathy, not worth the air they breath.  It may seem like a leap, to compare a garden variety abuser with a genocidal maniac…but it’s the same.  The mentality is the same, the only difference is the degree of abuse.  The degree of abuse is proportionate to the power held by the abuser.  The greater the power, the greater the abuse.

A dictator who is also an abuser will think nothing of killing those who oppose him, not just because he sees opponents as a threat..but because he sees them as inferior.  An abuser feels that those who are inferior, do not have the right to protest, be heard, or to speak out.  An abuser is perfectly comfortable marginalizing those they feel are inferior by denying their basic rights of speech, assembly, protest, and movement. All these rights they never give up themselves, but an abuser is comfortable denying others these basic rights.

In relationships, we see abusers removing the voice of the abused.  Their victims can’t ever do anything “right”.  They will constantly correct, criticize, or complain about their victims.  They consistently trivialize, marginalize, and minimize their victims point of view.

When abusers become national leaders, their followers tend to take on the abusive traits of the leader.  They parrot the abusive labels, and demonize anyone who opposes the abuser.  This is how dictatorships flourish.

We use diagnostic labels such as narcissist, sociopath, etc, but the common denominator is a pattern of abuse.  The bottom line is refusing to attempt to understand the lived experience and perspective of others. A lack of, or absence of empathy is the hallmark of an abuser. This lack of empathy manifests as insults and demonization.

One of the obstacles to having empathy, is the lack of understanding of what empathy actually is.  Often people conflate empathy with agreement, but this is not the case.  You can empathize with someone whom you disagree with.  It takes maturity and control of your ego, but it can be done.

A truly mature and confident person finds it easy to be curious about  opinions of others which are contrary to their own.  A person who lacks confidence finds it unimaginable to be curious about the opinions of those who disagree with them.

Curiosity ......

Our Mission: To normalize society’s perception of mental health and make it part of our everyday conversation. We’re All A Little “Crazy“ is proud to have brought together a Global Mental Health Alliance. Within that group is the #SameHere Celebrity Alliance. Personalities from MLB, NHL, NFL, NBA/WNBA, MLS, Pro Boxing, Pro Volleyball, international sportsmen and women, announcers, actors, performers and musicians highlight the group Meet the #SameHere Practitioner Alliance consisting of world experts in STARR (Stress & Trauma, Active Release & Rewiring) Exercises. To feel better we must actually heal our Central Nervous Systems. Each expert’s profile represents a unique STARR Exercise below, so that you may learn about the many options available to you. The best way to use this page is to first listen to the brief video instructions below. Then, you can click on the “STARR-ting” Exercises for beginners. Once you are comfortable, start reading each expert’s bio to hear how exercises that each of them champion, positively affect our mental health. You can then check out their resource recommendations. Improving our mental health is not a “one-size-fits-all” process, however, by providing you with a list of exercises & therapies, you can research & choose the ones that work best for you. Many of these exercises can be done at home, but you can also look for practitioners in your area who offer them. There are many options to improve our physical health – with gyms on almost every corner. Now with STARR, we have options to build our own “Gyms For Our Brains” as well.

Ep. #284. The only thing that matters

Ep. #284. The only thing that matters

Here is what doesn't matter:

- how big your house is

- how famous you are

- social status

- the car you drive

- the jewelry you wear

- type of wrist watch you have

- your career status

- your political beliefs

- your identity (because that's just your ego trying to make sense of itself)

Here is what DOES matter:

- Love. Love. Love.

- Love expressed through kindness

- Love expressed though actions

- Love expressed through words

- Love expressed through a smile

- Love expressed through loyalty

- Love expressed through support

- Love expressed through advocacy

- Love expressed through protection

- Love expressed through encouragement

Ep. #283. John Pudar, Veteran, founder of first line kids

www.firstlinekids.com

OUR MISSION

First Line Kids is committed to honouring the service and sacrifice of those who are employed in the Canadian First Line Services.

We will work to ensure, that the children of our First Line heroes who pay the ultimate sacrifice, will have every opportunity to succeed, by ensuring their post-secondary education financial requirements will be met.

OUR STORY

First Line Kids began in July of 2022. It was started in an effort to pay respect to the fallen heroes of the Canadian First Line Services and, for all who continue to provide us with the peace, security, and health services, to live our lives safely each and every day.

We are committed to honouring the sacrifices made by these Canadian heroes, by ensuring they know that their efforts are respected and appreciated. There is no better way to do this, in our opinion, than to help their children fulfill their dreams.

Recent tragic events have made it clear that First Line Kids must be a priority for all Canadians who enjoy a safe and stable environment, thanks to the dedicated service and sacrifice of our First Line Heroes.

Ep. #280. Show update, current growth spurt, the near future

OTR is taking off!  The growth curve has started to spike straight up, and Sponsors are starting to line up.

A BIG part of this show is to find a better mouse trap...and I have.  22zero IS that better mousetrap.

22zero uses a form of Neuro Linguistic Programing (NLP) to de-couple memories from their emotional response.  Once de-coupled, the PTSD symptoms fade away.  Seems to good to be true, I know....but 22zero coaches don't charge for this service, so it's not about the money.

So far, everyone I've coached has gone from a 10/10 SUDS score, to a ZERO.   This is unheard of in conventional therapy.

22Zero is NOT therapy...it is coaching.  Whatever you want to call it, it works.

mark_meincke@yahoo.ca if you want me to schedule you in for a session.  Or, contact 22zero for a coach near you.

Ep. #279. Shoulding on People, and Shoulding on yourself

Ep. #279. Shoulding on People, and Shoulding on yourself

When correcting others, try not to spray should all over them.

Shoulding always comes from a place of critical judgment, and not from understanding, respect, and compassion. Shoulding can damage self esteem, create a toxic environment, damage morale, reduce productivity, increase sick-days, and increase employee turnover.

If you replace shoulding with active listening, respect, and compassion, your world will change.  Compliance will increase, relationships will be optimal, stress will lower, and everyone will benefit.

This skill is helpful in everyone's life.

Thank you to my good friend Aaron Butt for inspiring me to put this together.

Please comment, and provide feedback on what you hear in this episode.  I want to hear from you.  Your voice matters.

The Special Operations Warrior Foundation’s enduring promise to America’s Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marine Corps Special Operations Personnel is to honor the fallen, and all Medal of Honor Recipients, by providing full educations and additional opportunities, “cradle to career” (preschool – college), to their children, ensuring:

(1) Comprehensive educational support including, but not limited to, academic advocacy, preschool and private school grants, tutoring, support for students with disabilities, college readiness programs, full financial assistance for up to a four-year post-secondary degree, access to our college to career transitions program, a commitment to cover educational costs for the surviving children of Special Operations Personnel whose spouses perish while the Special Operator is actively serving, while providing a variety of other practical programs and services.

(2) Provide immediate financial grants to severely combat-wounded, ill, and injured Special Operations Personnel who require hospitalization.

Sean Corrigan is a former Army Ranger, and Green Beret who is now dedicated to serving the families of the fallen.

WHY WE DO WHAT WE DO

WE BELIEVE THERE IS A BETTER WAY TO DEAL WITH TRAUMATIC EMOTIONS AND NEGATIVE EMOTIONS AFFECTING OUR DAY-TO-DAY LIVES.  WE DEVELOPED THE TACTICAL RESILIENCY PROCESS (TRP) WHICH IS THE HEART OF OUR INTERVENTIONS.  THEY ARE THE TRAUMA RESILIENCY-PROTOCOL (TR-P) AND THE EMOTIONS MANAGEMENT PROCESS (EMP).

HOW WE DO IT WE CHALLENGE THE STATUS QUO BY DEVELOPING RESEARCH ON EFFECTIVE TREATMENTS SUCH AS TRP/EMP, AND WE WERE ABLE TO SHOW 100 CLIENTS WERE SUCCESSFUL AT ELIMINATING THE SYMPTOMS OF PTSD IN OUR “TESTING THE MODEL” STUDY. WE COMPLETED A SECOND STUDY WITH 100 MORE CLIENTS IN “VALIDATING THE MODEL” TO SHOW ALL OF THEM WERE PTSD-FREE AS WELL.  THE THIRD STUDY SHOWED 66 CHILDREN ALSO BECAME PTSD-FREE, ALL OF THEM! LET THAT SINK IN! OUR SUCCESS-BASED PRACTICE IS 100 PERCENT SUCCESSFUL AT NEUTRALIZING PTSD SYMPTOMS ACROSS 3 STUDIES

“THE BRAIN DOES THE WORK WITH OR WITHOUT YOUR PERMISSION IF VISUALS ARE DONE CORRECTLY.”

WHAT WE DO

WE ARE CONTRIBUTING TO A PURPOSE AND RESTORING THE LIVES OF AMERICA’S SONS AND DAUGHTERS THAT PUT A UNIFORM ON FOR A PURPOSE MUCH BIGGER THAN SELF.

THE TACTICAL RESILIENCY PROCESS CONSISTS OF THE TRAUMA RESILIENCY-PROTOCOL (TR-P) & THE EMOTIONS MANAGEMENT PROCESS (EMP) THEY WILL HEAL THE HERO.

Ep. #275. Immediate Action Drills for Healing, and the long term plan

Ep. #275. Immediate Action Drills for Healing, and the long term plan

The most effective healing I’ve found so far

  1. Immediate Intervention
  2. Connection.  Speak with someone…ANYONE about what’s going on, how you are feeling.  Preferably, someone who is trained at listening.  Call a crisis line in your area, or call a friend and say the words, “I need you to talk to you, and I need you to listen”.  If you do this, put in the caveat….  ”Please just let me vent, and don’t offer solutions unless I ask…ok?”

Connect with yourself.  Get outside, sit on the ground, and breathe deeply for 2 minutes.

If you are having an anxiety attack, find 3 blue things, 3 red things, 3 yellow things in your environment and name them.   Then 3 big things, 3 small things, 3 pretty things.  This is a grounding exercise.

Also, look at any object, (I prefer horizons) and trace the outline…slowly from right to left, or counter-clockwise if it’s round. Continue..slowly, and focus as much as you can.

Name 10 things you are grateful for…then name 10 more.

  1. TheFastest acting treatments
    1. NLP, 22zero
    2. EMDR
    3. Psychedelic therapy
    4. Reconsolidation therapy
    5. Nature
    6. Exercise
    7. Diet, fasting, Ketosis
    8. Drink lots of water…nothing with sugar in it
    9. Proper Peer Support,
    10. Armwrestling, Jui-jitsu, judo, dancing, Banghra
    11. Listen to My show, or any similar show you may prefer.  This allows you to connect to other peoples stories, and connection is healing.
    12. Classical music
    13. Cannabis
  2. Lifestyle choices to keep you level, promote healing, and build the “new you”
    1. Daily Habits
    2. Make your darn bed
    3. Declutter the house, garage, car, closet, and your schedule
    4. Eat clean.  Nothing processed. Supplement correctly.
    5. Move your darn body.  Lift something, swim,
    6. Find a community
    7. Be someone who you like, and respect
    8. Grow, learn, language, skills, knowledge
    9. Participate in therapy
    10. Equine Assisted Therapy, self awareness
    11. Help someone.  Then, …help some more.
      1. Mow lawn for free
      2. Deliver groceries
      3. Do laundry
      4. Clean a house
      5. Volunteer at any organization
      6. Pick up garbage on the street
      7. Pick up poop at the dog park
      8. Fix something for someone, car, porch, clothes,
      9. Cook someone a meal
      10. Smile
      11. Pay a compliment
      12. Encourage someone
  3. If helping isn’t for you, then stay busy with something creative.
    1. Leatherwork
    2. Painting
    3. Sculpture
    4. Musical instrument
    5. Singing
    6. Mechanics
    7. welding/fabrication
    8. Software development
    9. Write a book
    10. Podcast
    11. Create an event

Nobody is going to save you.

Superman and Wonder Woman will not show up. Not ever.

Only you can choose to act.

When you’re in hell, keep your feet moving.

Ep. #272. Steve Critchley, Founder of Can Praxis, Equine Assisted Therapy.

Can Praxis EAL is a Canadian registered charity, and we provide mental health recovery programs for Canadian Veterans and First Responders (serving and retired) living with an Operational Stress Injury (OSI), such as Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

We incorporate equine therapy into our programs because horses understand us and can teach us about ourselves. Horses are experts at reading body language and pick up on all the non-verbal cues we bring to an interaction.

Founded in 2013 by a Canadian Military Veteran and a Trauma-focused clinician, Can Praxis is the leading Equine-Assisted Therapy provider for the Veteran and First Responder communities.
