Episode 9: Page One of 2019

Episode 9: Page One of 2019

I just had a conversation with someone who was frustrated at work. As usual, at the core of the issue was a breakdown in communication. If you’re a leader of people or if you’re in hot pursuit of a leadership position with your company or organization, this episode may help you get on the same page with everyone on your team, right out of the gate in 2019.

I’m titling this episode, PAGE ONE of 2019. This is one thing leaders can do with each individual on their teams to create a connection which will save you the pain of anxiety, tension, and hurt feelings throughout the remainder of this year.

Save time. Save energy. Become laser focused. Most importantly, inspire and encourage your teams in the process.

Episode 8: You Never Look Bad Making Somebody Else Look Good: A Conversation With Matthew Olsen

Episode 8: You Never Look Bad Making Somebody Else Look Good: A Conversation With Matthew Olsen

No matter how good or bad things are going in our own lives, we never look bad making somebody else look good.

Today we bring in PGA Tour Caddie, Matthew Olsen to the program. We’ll talk to him about his own story, how he’s had to not only battle through adversity to make it onto the tour, but now once in the groove of his career transition to Caddying, how he’s able to survive the up and down nature of PGA Tour golf. We’ll also ask him for insights into what goes on behind the scenes in big-time PGA Tour golf, how pro golfers prepare, what keeps them encouraged, and how they stay mentally tough through all the peaks and valleys tour life brings.

We'll all take away some applicable encouragement for our own ups and downs at work and at home.

Enjoy!

Episode 7 - Thoughts on Serena Williams, Grace, Gracefulness, and Last Chance You

Episode 7 - Thoughts on Serena Williams, Grace, Gracefulness, and Last Chance You

Serena demanded an apology from the umpire and rules officials. We all owe her a big thank you. While I’m proud of her for sticking up for and being passionate about woman’s rights, I won’t go there. I’ll let the rest of social media and the public debate that issue, as it may be a bit outside the scope of this community of encouragement we’re building here with the Ballgames To Boardrooms Podcast.

I do want to thank Serena for showing us and reminding us all how important grace and gracefulness is in our lives at work and even at home. In this episode we breakdown the Serena Williams U.S. Open must see tv from this past Saturday and what we can take away. I’ve had this episode and topic of Grace on my mind for months, maybe years. So, as I watched the Serena “episode” unfold, I felt now would be a great time to share these ideas. I’ve included a few excerpts from my next book, Lead With Hospitality, as I devote an entire chapter to Grace and Gracefulness.

Welcome back. Enjoy.

Episode 4 - Role Players Matter, in Fact They’re Indispensable

Episode 4 - Role Players Matter, in Fact They’re Indispensable

This episode – Role Players Matter, in Fact They’re Indispensable – takes a quick look at the idea of how on a team, every single person has a role in the show. Often times it’s not the stars or top performers who ultimately make or break the team’s ability to be successful, but instead, it’s everyone else; the supporting cast. We also take a look at it in two contexts and scenarios – one from leadership lens and the other from the lens of a teammate or peer on any team.

Welcome back, and I hope you enjoy it as much as I did drawing up another thread from ballgames to boardrooms…here we go.

Episode 3 - Williamsport in Your Mind

Episode 3 - Williamsport in Your Mind

This is Episode 3 of the Ballgames To Boardrooms podcast. On this episode we’ll talk about how to make the not so fun or magical times a little less frustrating and perhaps a bit more fulfilling. As usual, I have a few stories and thoughts from sports we can use for inspiration! It’s August and that means my birthday is coming up on August 16th! And it means baseball season is in full effect, including the Little League World Series. This episode uses all that for inspiration and maybe some encouragement you didn’t know you needed. I didn’t either, until I started thinking about it.
