She is the founder and managing director of Renams Academy, an educational institution dedicated to empowering children and adults of African and Caribbean heritage. Renams Academy is on a mission to launch an innovative e-learning platform that curates tailor-made courses to significantly improve socioeconomic and holistic outcomes for the community.

Welcome back to another episode of Teacher Talk, in this month's episode we interviewed Director and trainee Dramatherapist Abigail Sewell.

Her work as a theatre and film director engages with themes of race, gender, class, and sexuality, championing untold narratives from historically excluded voices. Abigail's direction has featured on BBC Two, BBC Four, London Short Film Festival, and the stages of theatres such as Harold Pinter, Royal Court, and Young Vic.

In 2020 Abigail Co-Founded Uproot, a socially driven production company. Uproot is shifting culture and creating community through art. Their latest project, Black Girl Blues is a 10 week online arts-centered wellbeing programme for Black girls in Year 9 across the UK. The programme is fun, creative and supportive, and offers participants new art skills and tools to support their wellbeing.

In this episode we discuss the importance of the Arts and how they need to be driven more in education, the impact the Arts can have on our mental health, and also how we can use the Arts to support and create opportunities in the communities that we live in.
