You’re listening to a special episode of Reframed, brought to you by HMD Global The Home of Nokia Phones, and I’m your host, Brendon Petersen.

There’s no denying that technology is an integral part of modern day life with our mobile phones being arguably one of the most important, personal pieces of tech that we use every day.
According to the GSMA’s Mobile Economy Report Series, smartphone adoption in Sub-Saharan Africa stood at 64% and is expected to grow by 75% by 2025.

With mobile phones being one of the primary means of connecting to family, work and the internet, keeping your data safe on your phone is of utmost importance.

In this episode, I speak to Patrick Henchie, the Head of Product and Operations at HMD Global Sub Sahara Africa about the brand’s commitment to keeping your device secure and up to date and why that matters. Like many of you, a Nokia phone was my first ever mobile phone. Who is RedHat and why should your business partner with them?

Who is RedHat and why should your business partner with them?

The new normal is a phrase that we've all heard being used to describe the way that productivity has changed in the past 2 years.
While the discussion often centers around companies and employees adapting to remote or hybrid ways of working, I think that it should also be used to describe how the software and technologies we use should work together to help us achieve our goals, but in order to do that, the big tech companies would need to adopt a strategy that breaks down the silos of communication and foster an environment of communication, problem-solving and finding the best solution for the end-user.

RedHat is a company that embodies all of these qualities and more. In our second episode of this special series, I'll be chatting to Johan Scheepers Senior Manager of Solution Architects at Red Hat in Sub-Saharan Africa about who RedHat actually is and why their impressive customer-centric ethos as well as why partnering RedHat is the best option for your business

Facebook wants to connect the next one billion people to the internet

Since 2013, Facebook Connectivity has helped bring more than 500M people online to a faster internet and now aims to enable affordable, high-quality connectivity for the next billion people with emerging technologies.

Commenting on the new connectivity technologies, Dan Rabinovitsj, VP of Facebook Connectivity said, “ We have seen that economies flourish when there is widely accessible internet for individuals and businesses. In Nigeria, increased broadband connectivity resulted in a 7.8 percent increase in the likelihood of employment for people in areas connected to fibre optic cables. While increased connectivity led to a 19 percent increase in GDP per capita in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Facebook Connectivity  works with partners to develop new technologies for access to high speed internet. Today we’re sharing the latest developments on some of these connectivity technologies, which aim to deliver major improvements in internet capacity across the world by sea, land, and air.”

Clubhouse, spatial audio and the future of social audio

Clubhouse, spatial audio and the future of social audio

If you’ve been online anytime in the past few months you’ve probably heard of Clubhouse, the social audio app that’s spurred a new wave of live audio services from some of the biggest names in social media.

Founded by Paul Davison and Rohan Seth, Clubhouse was initially released exclusively on iOS back in March of 2020 and it’s only in May 2021 that the company launched an app for Android users.  Despite this delay in catering to Android users, Clubhouse managed to amass an incredible 600 000 registered users by December 2020 and just a few months later, in March 2021, that number had grown to over 10 million weekly active users.

Recently, the company has announced a range of new offerings including a partnership with Ted - the brand behind the popular Ted Talks -  payments for content creators, and most recently, spatial audio.

I spoke to Justin Uberti, Clubhouse’s Head of Streaming, about the new spatial audio feature, the future of audio, and how Clubhouse is able to be both the underdog and the unicorn that everyone in the tech world is trying to emulate.
