#1 Safety Feature ALL Motorcycles Should Have (and How to Add It)
Alright, in today's video I want to talk about the number one safety feature that you can either add to your motorcycle for a couple of hundred dollars or you ought to look to get as a standard feature on your next bike purchase.
This safety feature was found by the IIHS to reduce fatal accidents by 37%. It is the number one safety feature, never even thought about it in my mind until I read this article discussing it.
It's something that we take it such advantage of and don’t even think about in our regular everyday vehicles
and quite frankly, it's something that's not offered very often on motorcycles.
Back in the day it wasn’t offered at all, now, it's starting to be offered more and more but we still see it mainly on the higher end bikes.
But again, it's something so cheap to just add to your current bike or if you're out there in the market for a new one, see if they have it as a standard feature or if they'll add it for you cheaply as part of your purchase.
And that feature, you may have guessed it by now, ABS brakes.
Of all things, ABS brakes, such a reduction, in first fatal accidents and really severe accidents and they say the reason is because the ABS brakes, naturally, they provide for more stability when you're having to apply the brakes in emergency style, a lot of bikes, once you do that without ABS brakes you're going to lose the steering functionality and you're going to have to lay that bike down.
One of the biggest ways this can help is that the biggest type of accident that we see out there on the roads in Georgia is a car turning in front of you as you're driving down the road.
They don’t see you, got to lock up that brake, what often times happens is that causes you to flop, it causes you to have to lay the bike down because you can't control it as you're slamming on the brake to try to avoid that vehicle that's cutting in front of you.
ABS brakes, number on feature, go out and get it, get it for your bike now, get it for that new bike, very important.

Maintaining Proper Gap Between Motorcycle and Vehicle Ahead At Stop
No one wants to be involved in a motorcycle crash, but accidents happen every day. I hope to provide some useful tips to drivers and bikers on how to stay safe on the road.
This is a reminder to keep an appropriate gap between you and the vehicle in front of you when you are at a stop. There should be enough room between the two of you so that you can maneuver at the last minute if you need to.
I’ve had several cases where a motorcyclist where the motorcycle rear-ended the car in front of it and also was hit by the car behind them which is incredibly dangerous when riding a motorcycle. It’s such an easy mistake to avoid, and you can save yourself a lot of trouble by just staying vigilant and not taking chances.
Motorcycle Lane Splitting vs. Lane Filtering
Lane splitting vs. lane filtering. What is the difference and why is it important? The state of Utah recently legalized lane filtering, and it may begin to spread to the rest of the country.
Lane splitting is where motorcyclists go between two lanes of traffic going in the same direction. Lane filtering is when motorcyclists use the outside edge of the furthest right or left lane. They are both ways that motorcyclists can maneuver around cars on the road.
Lane filtering is much safer than lane splitting because the motorcyclist is not in between two lanes where they could easily be hit.
Lane splitting may be more convenient but it, in my experience, it is not worth the risk. Lane filtering is much safer, and it is easier to get a bill legalizing lane filtering passed than one legalizing lane splitting.
Proper Positions of Bike at an Intersection
When riding a bike, proper positioning at an intersection is crucial. As you are approaching an intersection, you should be thinking about several vital things, the most important one of them being the position you should take.
The easiest way to understand safe positioning is through the so-called "Third Method." Imagine the lane having three thirds: the middle, the left, and the right third. The essential thing you must remember is the position you DON'T want to be in, which is the middle third of the lane.
The middle third of the lane usually has debris and oil which may cause issues with stopping, but also with accelerating. It can make you lose control over your bike either as you try to stop or to take off at an intersection. Always take either the left or the right part of the lane.
Whether you're going to take a right or left third depends on many factors, from weather conditions to traffic, whether there is another vehicle in front of you or behind you, or if there is a lot of traffic at the intersection, etc.
Choose right or choose left, but make sure you never take the middle third.
