Dan Steel - Why Do Church Plants Fail?

Dan Steel - Why Do Church Plants Fail?

This week's guest on Temporary Tenants is Dan Steel. Dan Steel serves as the senior pastor of Magdalen Road Church in Oxford, England. Before returning to his hometown of Oxford, he helped plant Grace Church Dell Road in Birmingham, England. He and his wife, Zoe, have four children. During Covid Dan took it upon himself to do a data analysis on Why Church Plants Fail. He interviewed several church planters and members and wrote out a detailed document on the subject. His hope is that this would be used to create more transparent conversations about why church plants fail, and what we can learn from the stories of those who have failed. He currently partners with Acts 29, and helps mentor and train church planters in the UK and Ireland.

Here is the link to the article.

I would encourage anyone in ministry, church planting, or considering church planting to read this, and apply some lessons that can be learned from it.

Ray Ortlund - What is REAL Church?

Ray Ortlund - What is REAL Church?

To start off Season Two of Temporary Tenants we have a very special guest, Pastor Ray Ortlund.

About Ray:

What Ray and his wife Jani Ortlund care most about is more and more people renewed within by the gospel of Jesus. Only the gospel helps sinners and sufferers. And it does, by the power of God. Nothing can resist the freeing power of Jesus. Today they serve Immanuel Church in Nashville, Tennessee – an Acts 29 church. Ray also serves on the Council of The Gospel Coalition and blogs at the Coalition website. Jani speaks to women’s groups around the world. Both are published authors. Ray is a graduate of Wheaton College, Dallas Theological Seminary, the University of California at Berkeley, and the University of Aberdeen, Scotland. Jani is a graduate of Wheaton College and National Louis University. Together Ray and Jani have served in gospel ministry for over 40 years. They have four outstanding children and thirteen fabulous grandchildren. Ray loves to hunt. Jani loves to garden. They love each other most of all!

About this Episode:

This episode is one that I have been looking forward to for some time. I am excited for you guys to listen in to the wisdom and grace that Pastor Ray has. Heals hosts a podcast called Your Not Crazy! w/ Sam Albury which I high recommend. We dive into the subject of church planting, what is real church, and how gospel doctrine creates gospel culture when it is given the correct position in our churches and our lives.

Greg Nettle - Virtual Church Planting

Greg Nettle - Virtual Church Planting

On this episode I interview Greg Nettle President of Stadia Church Planting Network.

Here is a little info about Greg:

Devoted to a God-given passion for The Church and its responsibility to plant new churches, churches specifically designed to reach children at physical and spiritual risk, Greg Nettle serves as President of Stadia. As a visionary and catalytic leader, Greg has led Stadia from planting a handful of churches to helping plant 456 churches around the globe in 2021. Under his leadership, Stadia has developed strategic partnerships with like-minded organizations such as Compassion International and Missions of Hope International (MOHI) and has refined its portfolio of unique and highly effective church planting services, positioning the organization for continued exponential growth.

Prior to his time at Stadia, Greg served as leader of the RiverTree Movement in Ohio for 25 years. During that time, RiverTree grew from 100 to more than 3000 people in attendance, from 1 to 4 campus, and helped start 50 churches.

Greg’s sense of adventure has taken him around the world as he has climbed Everest Basecamp, Mount Kilimanjaro, Cotopaxi and Whitney among others to raise funds to bless children on the margins of society. Greg’s most important partner in life is his wife Julie as they lead their children, Tabitha and Elijah, to fall deeply in love with Jesus. He is an author, speaker and consultant as an agent of change in the global church and has co-authored three books: Small Matters, in collaboration with Compassion International President Jimmy Mellado, One Of, and Disciples Who Make Disciples.
