Meeting Roger Federer : Retirement News and personal remembrance tribute from a fanatic fan! Laver Cup London!

Meeting Roger Federer : Retirement News and personal remembrance tribute from a fanatic fan! Laver Cup London!

This episode we share the heart breaking news of Roger Federer's retirement as announced by him on Sept 15th 2022 on social media.  Roger chose to use an audio movie with a still picture to share the shocking news of his full retirement from the ATP tour and the end of his professional tennis career.

Personally Valerie and I share our personal journey in fandom with Roger Federer as our hero, idol, and inspiration and the few times we met the Swiss Maestro in person.  His tennis career is so much more than that of a sportsman for many.  He embodied all that was good and excellent in our lives and gave us a picture of what a great life might look like.  As a tennis player, his graceful and poetic style of play was a treasure to enjoy.   As a person he is seemed to enlighten our lives with his humor, his loyalty to his wife and kids, and his business savy.

Elena Rybakina 1st time Wimbledon Champion Deep Dive + Wimbledon Tournament Revisited

Elena Rybakina 1st time Wimbledon Champion Deep Dive + Wimbledon Tournament Revisited

This episode we are doing a deep dive on the new singles womens grand slam champ Elena Rybakina!  I was personally really surprised and taken by her super solid play in the finals and how she was able to mentally stay strong and come back from a 1 set down position to beat the favorite no#2 ranked player in the world Ons Jaber.

Behind her powerful groundstrokes and even more powerful serve, Rybakina became the 57th different Slam winner in the Open Era, but the first representing Kazakhstan.

Rybakina’s previous Wimbledon best performance was reaching last year’s fourth round. Her previous Grand Slam best was a quarterfinals appearance at the 2021 French Open.

Physical Recovery with Dr. Jenna Worswick : Learn best practices to recover from matches and weekend play +RACQUET GIVEAWAY

We have a special presentation from Dr. Jenna Worswick a strength and condition coach for the USTA.  In this presentation Dr. Worswick shares how to recover from physical activity after competition.  She shares so very practical ways to take care of your body when you have just finished a grueling match.  I think this information is not only important for competition players but also for recreational players and weekend warriors who are on the court and pushing the body to do a lot for their fitness level. She not only talks about physical recovery but also has great tips on nutrition and sleep as well.  I hope this talk helps you as much as it has helped me.

Grant Chen Interview: Former Asst. Head Coach UCLA Men's Tennis now SMU Head Coach, Asian Heritage, Roger Federer knows his name! Do you?

For the final three seasons at UCLA, Chen has served as Associate Head Coach, and, prior to that, he served as Assistant Coach for three years. During Chen's six seasons on Martin's coaching staff, the Bruins registered a 149-28 record (.842) and reached the quarterfinal round of the NCAA Championships five times. This past season, UCLA posted its third semifinal-round appearance of the stretch and totaled 30 wins for the first time in Martin's tenure.  The Bruins also collected four Pac-12 regular-season titles and three tournament trophies during Chen's time on staff.

Chen got his start with the Bruins as a student manager in 2001, as he played a pivotal role in the organization and growth of Martin's annual on-campus summer camp while fulfilling necessary off-court duties. The Bruins captured the NCAA title in 2005, Chen's penultimate year in the role. Chen's jack-of-all-trades skillset resulted in his hiring as Director of Operations upon his graduation from UCLA in 2006. He handled logistics, travel, equipment and management of all home events, including ITA Kick-Off Weekend, NCAA Regionals and the Southern California Intercollegiate Championships.

A fixture in the tennis community both at home and abroad, Chen currently serves on the board of directors for ITA and USTA Southern California. A busy summer 2017 saw Chen guide Team Southern California to the title at the USTA Boys National Team Championships in Champaign, Ill., before leading Team USA and the mixed doubles duo of Bruins Jada Hart and Logan Staggs to a bronze medal at the 29th Summer Universiade in Taipei. Chen briefly ventured into a role with Pure Sports Management in 2007, but maintained his ties to UCLA as head coach of its club tennis team.

Vania King 2x Grand Slam Champion describes that Winning Wimbledon moment Parent Coaching and Asian heritage

This episode is so special I can’t wait to share it with you! AS it is May, we are celebrating Asian American Heritage Month and interviewing some of the important people who have made an impact in the tennis world. The USTA Committee for Diversity and Inclusion has invited me to be the chairperson for the Asian American subcommittee with the focus of raising awareness of Asian Americans in Tennis.

In this episode we get privilege of hearing from 2 time grand slam champion Vania King!

A fixture on the WTA Tour for the last 15 years, King has won 16 WTA titles in her career—one in singles AT THE 2006 Bangkok TOURNAMENT and 15 in doubles, including two Grand Slam women’s doubles championships at Wimbledon and the US Open, both in 2010 with partner Yaroslava Shvedova. The 31-year-old Californian also reached the women’s doubles semifinals at the 2011 French Open and the quarterfinals at the Australian Open in 2012 and 2016, and she teamed with Marcelo Melo to reach the French Open mixed doubles final in 2009. In singles play, King has reached the third round of every Grand Slam except Wimbledon, where she advanced to the second round twice. She reached a career-high singles ranking of No. 50 in November 2006, just four months after turning pro, and she was ranked as high as No. 3 in the world in doubles in June 2011. King represented the U.S. in eight Fed Cup ties between 2006 and 2011.

VANIA and I talked for over an hour and half and honestly I wish it was longer. Her openness and insights are really inspiring so I hope you love this conversation as much as I do! This is part one of the conversation.  Lets welcome Champion Vania King to the Tennispal Chronicles.
