VA Pensions for Veterans and Survivors Can Make a Difference
VA pensions provide monthly payments to qualified veterans, surviving spouses and unmarried dependent children. Recipients must meet eligibility requirements and certain income limits set by Congress. AVAFEST 2022 is Coming this Fall!
Calling all artists who happen to be veterans or family members. The Austin Veteran Arts Festival wants to showcase your talent! Have you been healing through art? Do you paint, sing, dance? New Law for DV Plates and Disabled Parking: How Not to Get a Ticket
A new Texas law is affecting motorists with Texas Disabled Veteran (DV) license plates. You now need to display the ISA symbol to use parking spots marked for the disabled. What is that? You may ask. The Blue Water Navy (BWN) Vietnam Veterans Act
The Blue Water Navy (BWN) Vietnam Veterans Act of 2019 extended the presumption of herbicide exposure, such as Agent Orange, to Veterans who served in the offshore waters of the Republic of Vietnam between Jan. 9, 1962 and May 7, 1975. If that exposure led to any of the 14 VA approved service connected illnesses, these veterans are entitled to benefits. The VA has already paid out hundreds of millions of dollars to some of those veterans. We talked with the VA about this benefit and what eligible veterans should do to claim their share. Vietnam War Veterans Day 2021
On March 29, 2021, the nation will recognize and show appreciation for the military men and women who served during the Vietnam War. Over 2.7 million Americans served in Vietnam, less than 850,000 are alive today. We continue to give Texas Vietnam Vets a book that commemorates the 50th anniversary of that war. Vietnam Vet and former Texas Veterans Commission Chairman Al Cantu shares his feelings about the book and we'll also discuss why Vietnam Vets should file disability claims for exposure to Agent Orange. The Fund for Veterans' Assistance is now accepting applications for next year's monetary grants. Applications are due November 5, 2020. Applications are filed on the web. Apply here! This month mental health advocates, survivors, family members, faith based organizations and local, state and national agencies are working together to promote suicide prevention awareness. It is not just a one month thing, these efforts are ongoing. Texas Veterans Commission works with mental health professionals and organizations everyday to stop veteran suicide.
