My book is called " Looking through the black window"; similar to books like Ain't never not been black by Javon Johnson; All the Rudy Francisco books and Black Movie by Danez Smith in style, as I am heavily influenced by the poetry of American spoken word performers; despite the style and/ or topic is similar to the books stated above, "looking through the black window" has a lot of references to history, as at the end there is a list of quotes from influential black people from around the world and the poems are not based solely on my experiences but on the experience of black people all around the world; the rationale being that I want " looking the black window" to be a well-rounded view of the black experience.

The target audience for "Looking Through the black window" is everyone in general, as from my research there are few books with the concept that I have; my hope is that " Looking through the black window" insight into the black experience from around for people who don't know, as some places get very little media exposure.

Personally, I would love for " Looking Through the black window" to help young people, the history aspect of the book is intended to help guild them in discovering their black identity, and for kids and teenagers that are not black, to provide them with a deeper understanding of the black experience so that they can be more empathetic of the racism that affects the black people around them.

Episode 15: Thandowriting poetry reading (what is your ocean ?)

Love is a beautiful and scary thing. We enter relationships never knowing the outcome. Whether they will break us, heal us or leave us with someone we value in our lives; sometimes we get all of them. All of those possibilities are unknown, so to find out we most jump in and exprience the memories.

This poem is inspired by a conversation I had with an old married couple, I asked them “ What is love?”; and this is their response, I will not make this long has I want their words to speak for themselves, so everyone enjoys their words.

Episode 8: Thando writing poetry reading ( when a man tells you he loves you)

Episode 8: Thando writing poetry reading ( when a man tells you he loves you)

Has a man, you are raised to be assertive, make the first move and risk the rejection or success that comes from that risk-taking; all of this means you get used to rejection, it does not mean it hurts less, rejection is a painful thing for everyone.

I come to learn that the words “I love you” when said sincerely; is a powerful thing that as a man is spoken with openness, this is where this poem comes from, that place of openness. which is scary, because your partner has the power to break you or build you up; for all relationships, I hope the latter, but the former happens, and when that happens some men never recover from that deep a heartbreak, if they do, the scares from the heartbreak can be seen in other relationships both platonic and romantic.

To everyone, have an amazing morning, evening or night.

Episode 7: Thando writing poetry reading (The female sermon)

It is interesting to me, as a man to see the beauty standards that society puts on women; whether that is just a way of life, or it can change, to that I do not know enough to comment on.
I wrote this poem, in hopes, it provides a little safe place when insecurities creep and the social pressure becomes too heavy to carry.
To everyone, have an amazing morning, evening or night.

Episode 6: Thando writing poetry reading (Life to death)

Disclaimer:This episode contains the subject matter of war and the environment of war. Hello, good morning, evening and afternoon. This episode is close to my heart, as a child of war I have come to learn that war creates nightmare worlds where the cruellest and heartbreaking things happen; even in these environments purity always shines through, no matter how small that sense of purity is.

Epidsode 5: Thando writing poetry reading (say their name)

Following on from the last episode, which was about the topic of race. This episode will be focusing on how due to the nature of news nowadays, it is easy for people to be lost the news cycle. My hope is that this poem helps people stop and think of the people who are affected by racism; to think of them not as one of many, but as individuals with wants and needs. This can be difficult, as the news cycle goes very fast. Have a good day, night or evening.

Episode 4: Thando writing poetry reading (untitled)

Episode 4: Thando writing poetry reading (untitled)

This poem covers the topic of race and identity. Knowledge of history and ancestry is relatively easy to find in the west, companies like ancestry.com have a vast archive of history. The issue that colonization has caused is that pre-colonial history is often lost, and covered over with European history. That leaves people with an incomplete version of their history, personally, that is sad, so this poem will cover the power of just having and acknowledging a countries pre-colonialist name. To support me, follow the link on my podcast bio. Enjoy, have an amazing day, evening or night.

Episode 2: Thando writing poetry reading (Cup of tea)

Grieve and death is something we all have to go through. Covid pandemic has made death a more visible, and more inescapable. My intention behind this poem, is to provide another aspect of mourning; the happy memories that were left, in the deepest times, those happy memories are powerful. Have a great day, evening or night.
