Industry Celebrities: Antoinne Glover

Want to know some tips and tricks of becoming an awesome realtor?

In this episode of Industry Celebrities, Kimberly D. Scott, a former Video Girl, and now Podcast Practitioner interviews Antoinne Glover, a realtor at Rocky Peak Homes.

Kimberly and Antoinne tackled three major topics in this interview that will you kickstart your career. First is the importance of quality customer service. Study shows that bad customer service interactions are more likely shared than good ones. Notice how you would always rant to your friends and family after getting badly treated at a restaurant you just visited? Well, since we humans are predominantly controlled by our emotions, the most unforgettable experiences that we share to instantly have relief, most often are those that caused us pain. That’s why when entering a service-oriented industry it is always best to be mindful and let kindness prevail at all times.  Second is stop hammering yourself with all the negative comments about yourself. We're all our own worst critic but you should always remind yourself that practicing and being good at something will take some time. And lastly, allow yourself to be mentored by someone who’s an expert on the field that you want to be in. Don’t be shy! Move out of your comfort zone and continue to work on being better.

Make sure to listen to the whole interview for this conversation is something you should never miss. Don’t forget to share with your family and friends too, we are all just one step away to becoming the best versions of ourselves.

Caregiver's Stories: Laura Hunter shares her caregiving story

#caregiverstories #caregiver #dementia #thatkimberly

In this episode of Caregiver Stories, Kimberly D. Scott a former Video Girl, and now Podcast Practitioner interviews Lauren Hunter. A former Recreation and Physical Therapy Aide and a loving granddaughter to someone who was diagnosed with dementia. Lauren shared her experience and the changes her family went through when her grandmother was diagnosed.   It was around 20 years ago when her family started to notice the early signs but it was not until her grandmother moved from Florida to Tennessee when the signs started to intensify. She shared that one of the major declines she will never forget was after her grandparents got into an accident. The trauma from the accident played a huge role because the decline was almost immediate. Though the pace of someone’s decline can be unpredictable, Lauren highlighted the importance of ensuring safety precautionary measures like placing a locator on the car and on the patient’s phone. Leveraging with technology will surely help each member of the family especially the primary caregivers.

Listen to the entire conversation for Kimberly and Lauren tackled how important it is to reach out to family and friends or even any group support because during tough situations it's okay to ask for help. The lessons they learned from there experience will be a great reminder for you to start talking about the what-ifs with your family now because tomorrow is promised to no one.   Don't forget to share with your family and friends, for you will never know who needs to hear this.

Industry Celebrities: Jacqueline Terrel owner and the operator of Tudor House Cookies

Industry Celebrities: Jacqueline Terrel owner and the operator of Tudor House Cookies

Kimberly D. Scott, a former Video Girl, and now Podcast Practitioner interviews Jacqueline Terrel, owner and the operator of Tudor House Cookies.   Baking has been Jacquelyn’s passion since she was a child. She and her mother used to stay up late at night to bake and even on special occasions she would give away brownies. Her friends and family were the luckiest for she would bake delicious treats for them. Her love for baking paved the way for her to start a business. It all started when she decided to bake decorated cookies for her son’s first birthday. She did a lot of research and planning but ended up not liking it. She even swore that she’ll never do it again. What made her change her mind was her husband, who suggested to let her try again so that she can stay at home and take care of the kids while making some money to help their growing family.   As the years go by, her business grew. She was able to get a lot of recognition from the cookie community and looking back, the one main thing she would want to tell her younger self is not to spend so much time and energy worrying about what other people think. It would be a waste of energy to keep on trying to conform to what everybody else wants.

Caregivers Stories: Anne Sadovsky shares her family's caregiving story and the world of Parkinson

Caregivers Stories: Anne Sadovsky shares her family's caregiving story and the world of Parkinson

On this episode of Caregivers Stories, Kimberly D. Scott, interviews her long-time friend, Anne Sadovsky. This is a short video conversation on how she entered the world of Parkinson's and how her family dealt with it.   Approximately about 60,000 Americans are diagnosed with Parkinson’s every year. Anne’s Mom was one of them. The early signs of Parkinson’s disease can be easy to miss, mainly if they occur sporadically. In her mother’s case, it started with rocking and hand tremors. When they knew their mother’s condition, the family member who took the role as her primary caregiver was her sister Mia because she was the one who lived near their mother’s place.   Anne's heart-tugging story radiates the importance of teamwork, how each family member should work hand in hand, and to always look after each other’s emotional well-being while taking care of the loved one who got diagnosed. Listen to the whole interview for you will not only get some remarkable pieces of advice but I guarantee you that Anne’s story will make your heart melt and leave a smile on your face. This 24-minute talk is worth watching, listening, and sharing with those that are struggling with the same journey.

Industry Celebrities: Kristin Sizemore shares why she loves Multifamily & why WEAR PINK IN OCTOBER

#industrycelebrities #multifamily

In this episode of Industry Celebrities, Kimberly D. Scott, Podcast Practitioner, interviews Kristin Sizemore, Vice President at Bohannon Development Corporation.   Kristin has been in the multifamily industry for 32 years. She started with leasing apartments and after nine months of working part-time, she became a full-time manager. She shared that one of the main reason why she remained in the industry is that she loves connecting with people and have always appreciated the beauty of the business since she has an opportunity to make a difference in where someone will be moving and how people process that big change in their life. Kristin is a firm believer that if you enjoy people and working with people and also love the idea of you making a difference with people then the multifamily probably is a good business for you.  She also shared her piece of advice to her younger self and that is to learn how to be comfortable with the uncomfortable. Because as things come about with your business, the things you haven't experienced before will create a little bit of fear, but that's part of the learning and decision-making process. It also best to remind yourself that you're not always going to get it right, but you'll know better the next time.

Listen to the rest of the podcast for Kristin also shared her breast cancer journey. How she turned that chaos into a learning opportunity not just for herself but for everybody who is fighting and even those families with a loved one who is diagnosed with breast cancer. She hopes to spread awareness for everyone in the community to know more about the things that they can do and how much support they can get from the organization in their local area. El Paso Apartment Association and EPPA  is partnering up with Stand with Estela Fund and would want to invite everybody to wear pink on Wednesdays this coming October, to show support to everybody going through breast cancer.

Caregivers Stories: Judy Cornish shares her story from law to caregiving and teaching others, the dawn method

Caregivers Stories: Judy Cornish shares her story from law to caregiving and teaching others, the dawn method

Kimberly D. Scott, a former Video Girl, and now Podcast Practitioner interviews Judy Cornish, a licensed attorney, author, and geriatric care manager who spent almost a decade working for families and people experiencing dementia on the care center she founded. Palouse Dementia Care was built to help clients live a wonderful life and help their families experience less stress.

Before entering the dementia world, Judy was a psychosocial skills trainer for the mentally ill and practiced law in Portland Oregon. When she decided to semi-retire, she moved to Moscow, Idaho. On where she was renting, a neighbor came to see their landlord and stated that they planned to move their mother into a care facility for she was getting forgetful.  It was heartbreaking for Judy to hear, knowing that the mother lived there for 56 years. So out of pure kindness, she offered to look after their mother. Within two weeks a lot of families called, asking if she was also able to help them with their parents and after several months she found herself working for more hours until it became fulltime. She hired people to help her cater to everyone who needed their help. She wanted to help other families begin caring for their loved ones in the same way. After seeing the inconsistency and the chaos it brings if not everyone in the inner circle of the client knows how to handle the situation, she then began developing a training program that would help families provide truly strength-based care at home.

Listen to the rest of the interview for Judy shared and discussed the tools of mindlessness, the dawn method, and her insights on how to fully understand and cope when a loved one is diagnosed with dementia.  She aims to let everyone gain a deeper and more meaningful connection when a loved one’s cognitive skills will begin to fade.

Industry Celebrities podcast: Ardem Keshishian gives Home Builder advice and why he started Ardem James Custom Homes

In this episode of Industry Celebrities, Kimberly interviewed Ardem Keshishian, owner of Ardem James Custom Homes.

Ardem shared his inspiring story on how he started his home building business. It all happened when he had an assistant program at his salon. One of his assistants had a rough time going through a divorce. This led him to a decision that changed his life course. He decided to buy a house, remodeled it, and made his assistant rent it.  Who would have thought that a simple act of kindness can bring him the best opportunity that life has to offer?   This turn of events eventually opened the doors for Ardem to know more about the construction process. He met a lot of wonderful people who helped him materialize his vision of helping those who are in need while creating the most beautiful homes.   One piece of advice that most entrepreneurs should take by heart is to always choose a team that you trust and who are you are like-minded with. This will not only yield good results, but it will strengthen the company as a whole.

Caregivers Stories: Rachel Nusbaum (Part 2) shares what it is like to take care of her mom while taking care of her kids

#thatkimberly #caregiversstories #caregivereducation

In this interview, Kimberly Scott interviews Rachel Nusbaum a Certified Genetic Counselor and founder of Orchid Story, LLC.  Rachel shared her story on what it is like to take care of her mom while taking care of her kids and the impact it had on their lives. Her mother was diagnosed 10 years ago with what is now called Posterior Cortical Atrophy (PCA), also known as Benson's syndrome. It is a form of dementia which refers to gradual and progressive degeneration of the outer layer of the brain (the cortex) in the part located in the back of the head (posterior). She highlighted a moment where she and her mother had a talk about her 8-year-old son. It took her by surprise for her mother voiced out her pain about how her son was becoming distant to her. This was something she noticed too. Though the disease took a toll on her mother’s total well-being, what Rachel realized at that moment was her mother’s core and the truest essence of herself is still the same even if all the former capability is slowly get stripped away. This is what we often forget but we shouldn’t forget to remind each family member, including the little ones these little things. Though this might be a tough ordeal, especially with children as long as there are compassion and constant communication, a harmonious relationship can still be achieved.   Listen to the whole interview for Kimberly and Rachel talked so many things about how to handle the young members in the family. It will make you tear up a little for these two daughters who are both battling to maintain the life that they want to have for themselves and for the loved ones who are diagnosed with dementia.

Caregivers Stories: Kate Hanley shares her caregiving journey

#thatkimberly #caregiversstories

In this episode of Caregivers Stories, I interview Kate Hanley, who is a former caregiver (Old Forge, New York) and now, an author Breakfast Memories: A Dementia Love Story. Kate shares many things; one of the many, she answers my questions about what people should know when it comes to dementia or those with dementia? Kate says, "show up," be in the moment Kimberly, and I promise you I witnessed it myself Kimberly, yeah, is a memory there, if, in fact, your loved one doesn't know who you are. They can't say it because it's in their mind, but their heart knows it, there's some. There's a purpose behind their smile.   Yeah, Absolutely. And she's definitely, I think that was the hardest part for me. And being the child that wanted to take this on, she was the one who decided on saying she was the one that managed everybody so for her to be able to not totally give it up, but for the most part, that's very difficult so I had to find the kindness and the way to go about doing it without getting into a fight with her argument because it's not worth her time here. To do that, I definitely had to learn that very quickly that not to argue just to agree or redirect and move on, because otherwise we'd be fighting all the time and it's not worth being on this planet with her and not enjoying the time I have right

TAAEF & Industry Celebrities collab, Room to Grow series: Nicolle Gaffney Block shares some of her 25 years of multifamily experience

We kick off Industry Celebrities & Texas Apartment Association Education Foundation collaboration for TAAEF's Room To Grow series have teamed up to share stories of industry professionals who have found not just a job but a career in the apartment industry.

In this episode, Kimberly D. Scott, 15-year multifamily professional and Nicolle Block, a multifamily executive with 25 years of experience in this industry, have a conversation about why they love multifamily.

Nicolle started her career at a very young age. She’s one of the lucky ones who fell into the industry. As a student, Nicolle needed something to help her with housing, and that was when she stumbled on the lane that took her to the industry that she has come to love after more than two decades now. She found her passion and worked her way up year after year. Not everybody is blessed enough to find out right away what sparks joy for them. For Nicole, it only took her less than a year after she started to see that she was on the right path because she saw a lot of movement and growth in the company that she worked for at that time.   With the years that she spent working for one company, she shared that for someone to fully have growth and development, one must not wait for someone to point it out. This misconception often leads to some people quitting and then wondering why the years that passed have been stagnant and unfulfilling. Although some who people who genuinely care for us might be able to point out the things that we can and should do, if we are wanting to have more or something different, then it should be our prerogative to raise our hand and say what we want to learn and do.

Caregivers Stories: Giulia Melchiorre shares her story and how Cogni Health helps caregivers

Caregivers Stories: Giulia Melchiorre shares her story and how Cogni Health helps caregivers

On this episode of #caregiversstories, I interview Giulia Melchiorre a neuroscientist by training and co-founder of the CogniCare App.   After Giulia completed her studies, she decided to work for a neurology clinic in Edinburgh. The neurology clinic that she worked for was specialized in degenerative diseases and her role within that was to work as a research assistant. While she was working with these families who were affected by dementia, she noticed that they were somewhat stuck at that point and did not have any clue on what to do. The thought of finding a way to help these families never left her mind.   While she was doing her masters at the university in Edinburgh, she met a friend and they had been talking about doing something for people with dementia. The urge to help these people was so strong that together they brainstormed to find a way that can help these people, most flexible. So after a lot of thinking and research, they decided to create an app. The app is called CogniCare. CogniCare is a digital companion for family carers that enables personalized care, providing guidance and insights to ensure carers will have the support that they need each step of the way. It is designed to improve the caring experience by providing advice and resources to help with daily tasks and promote carer's wellbeing. What is else is better than having an app where you will be able to find the resources that you need?    Listen to the whole interview for Kimberly and Giulia talked a lot of interesting insights about how to take care and understand someone who is diagnosed with dementia and what technologies to utilize to make things easier for both the diagnosed and carer.

Caregivers Stories: Dallas Dixon living with Dementia after being a Caregiver to his uncle

Caregivers Stories: Dallas Dixon living with Dementia after being a Caregiver to his uncle

Imagine yourself caring for someone who has dementia. Now imagine finding out that you also have dementia. You probably won’t believe that scenarios like this happen in real life but this interview will make you pause and think about how unpredictable life can be.

In this episode, I, Kimberly D. Scott, interview Dallas Dixon, a former criminal defense attorney and author of The Dancing Dementia Dude: An Urgent Conversation Between Dementia Folks, Care Partners and God.

Dallas was a caregiver for his uncle for about 10 years. It was a world he never knew he would be in let alone find himself in the same situation that his uncle was in after he was diagnosed with Vascular Dementia in 2014. This interview is about his unconventional route to and through dementia. He shared that even though some might find the journey hard, one should never forget to see the light of things. Acceptance, humor, and the willingness to continue riding the waves of life are the key to make things a bit easy and memorable.

Listen to the whole interview for Kimberly and Dallas will let you have a glimpse of dementia’s cool side and what superpowers it brings.

Caregivers Stories: Mary Ann Kampfe shares her caregiving story and why she wrote Dementia Dolls: A Daughter's Story

On this episode of Caregivers Stories, I, Kimberly D. Scott, feels blessed to interview Mary Ann Kampfe, author of Dementia Dolls: A Daughter’s Story.

It was 2002 when Mary Ann’s parents moved closer to her home. Her dad who was in his mid 70’s at that had fallen and was diagnosed with macular degeneration. She was thrown into the Sandwich Generation because while she was caring for her two children, she was also her parents’ chauffeur and friend. When her dad passed away in 2013, her mother continued to live on her own in their apartment. Mary Ann thought that everything was doing okay until they visited her and found her iron inside the oven. That was the sign that something was off. For someone who was always in charge of their household, the dementia diagnosis shocked her.

Despite the difficulty and increasing demands, Mary Ann slowly learned to embrace the constant change in the process. She learned to pause, not put too much pressure and value herself while she was taking care of her mother. Her elderly aunt who's in her 90s said to her, that she has to take care of herself as a caregiver because if something happens to her the whole house of cards goes down. That was one of the pieces of advice that stuck to her the most.

Nobody is perfect and no matter how imperfect you are as a caregiver, as long as you are doing your best for your loved one, while not forgetting yourself then that is what is important. Balance everything, if you slip, it’s okay t not be okay but never lose sight of what is important. Seek help and do not be ashamed to reach out to those people that you trust the most.

Listen to the whole interview for Kimberly and Mary Ann’s conversation will remind you of the most import words that you need to hear right now. Make sure to share with your friends, because you will never know who needs to hear their story.

Caregivers Stories: Sue Anne Kirkham, a former caregiver to her father & stepmother and now author

Caregivers Stories: Sue Anne Kirkham, a former caregiver to her father & stepmother and now author

On this episode of Caregivers Stories, Sue Anne Kirkham shares her caring story with me about caring for her father and stepmother. Sue Anne and I agree that becoming a caregiver was challenging, however rewarding at the same time.

Sue Anne shared about her journey assisting her father and stepmother as they struggled with declining health and the onset of dementia. It was 2005, both Sue and her husband at the time had full-time jobs. When her stepmother had the diagnosis, Sue Anne knew that she had to step in and help her father after he told her that he wants to move her to an assisted living. Sue Anne then quit her full-time job and started going over her parent's place every weekday, Monday through Friday. It hasn’t been a smooth journey, but Anne learned so many things that she wants to share with everyone who just found out that their loved one has dementia. She wants to remind every caregiver to expect the unexpected and, and be really patient because just like everyone else who is going through this stage, you're not going to know from day one, how to deal with all of what’s happening. She also highlighted that caregivers should also be patient with the outsiders for these people will not right away understand. One of the many takeaways, do not take things personally, is a tough thing to practice, however, one should always keep their emotions in check.

Listen to the rest of the interview for Kimberly, and Sue Anne’s experience as caregivers for their loved one will give a glimpse of what it is like to be in a reversed situation where they now have to care for a parent. You shouldn’t miss this discussion for you will take their lessons with you as your own.

Caregivers Stories: Gerda Saunders is an author, mother, wife & living with Microvascular Dementia & has a plan for her death

Caregivers Stories: Gerda Saunders is an author, mother, wife & living with Microvascular Dementia & has a plan for her death

My name is Kimberly Scott, I am a part-time caregiver and a Podcast Practitioner; I am grateful to have spoken interview Gerda Saunders, author of Memory’s Last Breath: Field Notes on My Dementia. Gerda is living with Dementia; she was 61 years old when she was diagnosed with microvascular dementia.

Gerda emigrated to the United States from South Africa in 1984. In 1996 she received a Ph.D. in English from the University of Utah, where she later served as associate director of the Gender Studies Program. When  Gerda and her family noticed her memory lapses, she knew that she had a form of degenerative brain issue. When she finally had herself checked, her MRI showed multiple frontal lobe lesions (microvascular dementia.)

Gerda is blessed with a loving family. She was 17, and her husband, Peter, was 19 when they fell in love. Now they have been together for 50 years, and her husband is her primary caregiver. The amazing thing about Gerda and her story is how she and her family worked and communicated together. She has been open to everyone about her condition, and even though this disease is slowly taking some of her skills, she still looks at life with fresh eyes. The acceptance and the courage to face life and not succumb to the negativity it brings is beyond impressive.

Listen to the whole interview for Kimberly, and Gerda talked a lot of pain points and wisdom that will open a different avenue about what it’s like to have to live with Dementia. Their conversation will make your heart melt, it will bring tears, and it will also paint a smile on your face. At the end of it, you will surely never forget the lessons they imparted.

Caregivers Stories: Deborah Shouse, author & caregiver, shares her story of caring for her mother

Caregivers Stories: Deborah Shouse, author & caregiver, shares her story of caring for her mother

In this episode of Caregivers Stories, I interviewed Deborah Shouse, a writer, speaker, editor, and creativity catalyst. She is the author of Love in the Land of Dementia: Finding Hope in the Caregiver’s Journey.    Deborah shared that when her mother was diagnosed with dementia, it changed her life. Even though things were not the same as it used to be, she continued to find the light in the situation. Like every care partner, as she coins it, the struggle and adjustment are always there, but one should never forget to find ways to make the load lighter. With her mother, what she appreciated the most is the fact that she is growing up, she has been known as someone who had always been a person of significant rules and judgment. When she was able to accept her condition, she was able to let go of that trait; her mother became very playful after.

She highlighted that being a care partner for someone living with dementia is one of the most creative and spiritual things you can do because it's new every moment, and you'll never know what's going to happen next.    This journey will not only change one's courses of action, but it will flip everything, including how you deal with what’s coming for you and your loved one.  Listen to the whole interview for Kimberly, and Deborah shared so many great insights about what it is like to be a care partner to their parents and what activities they can do to redirect and help their loved ones enjoy their time with them. These wonderful daughters are hoping to spread awareness, so please share with friends and family. A small act of sharing can go a long way, for we will never know who needs to hear this conversation.

Industry Celebrities: Gia Jordan, Real Estate Investor shares her passion and advice to her younger self

#industrycelebrities

This episode of Industry Celebrities, Kimberly D. Scott, Podcast Practitioner, interviews Real Estate Investor, Gia Jordan.  Understanding the mind of an investor,  as Gia shared, is one of the first things that you should learn before venturing into the whole selling business. Educating yourself and looking for a mentor to help you understand the process is vital for your success in this part of the industry. Watching a video or two will give you an overview but it won't prepare you for everything that comes with being a real estate investor.  Gia also highlighted her advice to her younger self, and it’s the following: number one is to remember that she does not need anyone's permission to live her life. The second is everyone "faking it" and doesn’t really know everything that they are doing. These definitely are one of the two things that we should remind ourselves each time we want to do something in our lives.  Make sure to listen to the entire interview because these lovely ladies shared a whole lot of wonderful insights about the industry that they are in and the lessons that came along with it.  Learn more about Gia: IG: the_kaizen_investor_ Email Address: jordan@percivalherald.com  Listen to other episodes or signup to be a guest on a Podcast: https://thatkimberly.com/convos-with-kimberly/  Connect on: FB: https://www.facebook.com/thatkimberlyscott Linkedin: https://www.linkedin.com/in/thatkimberly IG: https://www.instagram.com/thatkimscott Twitter: https://twitter.com/that_kimberly Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCdrDMJCNq8kxGGgqsO8avwQ

Caregivers Stories: Tara Reed former caregiver, author of What To Do Between the Tears, shares her story

Caregivers Stories: Tara Reed former caregiver, author of What To Do Between the Tears, shares her story

On this episode of Caregivers Stories, Kimberly interviews Tara Reed, former caregiver, artist, author of What To Do Between the Tears and the founder of Pivot to Happiness. As an artist by profession, Tara has been making beautiful art for over 15 years and is currently represented by Roaring Brook Licensing. She entered the world of caregiving when her father was diagnosed way back in 2012. Since her parents lived 4 miles away from her, she would usually visit them two to three times a year. Everything changed when they knew about the diagnosis.

Her father was a professor, a brilliant man with a brilliant mind. Before they had him checked, the early signs were not entirely apparent for he was good at handling himself. They all thought that the signs were just because of old age, but her mom (as the person who was living under the same roof as ) him knew something was wrong. As things were getting worse, they finally decided to have him checked by a neurologist, that was when they got the confirmation that he indeed has dementia. Accepting the news was a lot harder for her dad than to them, but since their dad needed all the support to lift his spirits, they made sure to do provide him all that he needed.

It was a tough journey for her and her family, and as a way for her deal with what she was going through she started writing her book. As she went on pouring her heart out, she was able to document all the great things that are worth sharing to everybody who needed it. And the was the birth of “What To Do Between the Tears.”

As a child to a parent who was diagnosed with Dementia, she highlighted how important it is to organize the legal documents, like getting the power of attorney, making sure that the financial and medical matters are all sorted out because it would be difficult and costly if it will not be done right away. She also stated that communication is vital with all the people involved because it can tear a family apart really quickly especially if nobody talked about it until there’s an emergency. Once everything is planned it is also best to know the strengths and weaknesses of those who will be in direct contact with the loved one who is diagnosed for it should be a round-robin and everybody should look out for each other’s mental health because no one is that strong to handle everything all at once.

Listen to the rest of the interview for Kimberly and Tara shared a lot of vital information that people should know when a loved one is diagnosed with Dementia.

Industry Celebrities: Jennifer Vaughan Herold shares how she went from Marketing to Professional Coaching

On this episode of Industry Celebrities podcast, Kimberly Scott interviews Jennifer Vaughan Herold, a certified coach and the founder and CEO of Vaughan Herold LLC.

Before Jennifer founded her company, she started her professional career in marketing. After 15 years in the corporate environment, she took a leap to follow her calling as a coach. This all started when Jennifer reached her peak and wasn't enjoying what she was doing anymore. Someone in her circle said that she should go to a coaching class, just to see if it was a fit. It was a weekend course, discussing the fundamentals and overview to start to learn about the broader program. At the end of the first day, she couldn't look the instructors in the eyes. She was just so overwhelmed because at that moment she felt for the first time that it was what she was made to do. She loves the feeling of being able to help somebody become better at what they do and go through things that are not always easy to work through. Now she has been in the industry for 5 years, and her advice to those who want to start a career as a coach is to work on one's self first.  She wants to encourage anybody interested in it to find what work you need to do on yourself. Like knowing what your triggers are: what motivates you, what really gets you up in the morning, what do you have to offer and who do you need to look to and lean on that can be a teacher in your life.  Listen to the rest of the interview for Kimberly and Jennifer talked a whole lot of incredible life lessons that you will remember for the rest of your life.

Industry Celebrities: Joanie Stallo gives relocation & apartment locating industry advice

On this episode of Industry Celebrities, Kimberly Scott interviews Joanie Stallo, a licensed realtor and apartment locator based in DFW area. (Texas)

Ever heard of stories about someone who accidentally stumbled on the path they’re currently taking and become successful in it? Well, Joanie has a different story. Ever since she was in high school, she knew what she wanted, and that was to walk on the path of the multifamily industry. It all started when she had a friend who was working for Lincoln Property. She was amazed by how her friend described the work that she had. She worshipped the ground that she walked on and aspired to have a job like hers in the future. She got so obsessed with the idea of being a part of the industry that when a brand new apartment community popped up in their neighborhood, she couldn’t help but stalk them for months until she was finally able to grab the work that she had been dreaming to have. And the funny part was she was only 17 at that time.

Joanie also shared what she loved the most about her job, and that is being able to ease the transition of moving and helping people find the best location that they will be able to call their home. And for those who want to be a part of the real estate industry, her main advice is to always put value and importance with educating one’s self about the industry and how to build relationships with clients who they will be working with.

Listen to the rest of the interview for this time, both Joanie and Kimberly shared what their advice would be for their younger self. These two ladies will not fail to give you one of the most important reminders that you need to hear today.

Caregivers Stories: Loretta Veney, trainer, motivational speaker and author of Being My Mom's Mom

#caregiversstories #thatkimberly

On this episode of Caregivers Stories, Kimberly interviews Loretta Veney, trainer, motivational speaker and author of Being My Mom's Mom.

Does the idea of your mother not being able to care of herself as she grows old worries you? We all have that fear, and at the back of our minds, we’d always hope for our parents to remain healthy for the rest of their lives. But that’s not always the case, because with aging comes frailty.

In this interview, you will have a glimpse of Loretta’s caregiving journey.  Her mother was 77 years old when she was diagnosed with dementia. Just like anyone who had this disease, it all started with the little things like missing on activities and forgetting the usual routines. She shared that her mother would never miss her Tai Chi class for anything, but there was this time when she did. Loretta shared that at first it seemed odd and it could’ve been one of the most significant signs, but they just let it slip. When things started pilling up, that’s when they decided to have her checked with her general practitioner, and that’s when they found out that she had early-onset dementia.

For the last four years, Loretta has been speaking about dementia and caregiving all throughout the United States in hopes of sharing her journey and the lessons she learned so others could be more prepared for this diagnosis.

Listen to the rest of the interview, for these two ladies will surely give you vital information that could help you and anybody become more knowledgeable about this cognitive disease.

How she turned "her mess" into a learning opportunity not just for herself but for everybody who is fighting and even those families with a loved one who is diagnosed with breast cancer.

Caregivers Stories: Marianne Sciucco, RN, Author and co-founder AlzAuthors shares her caregiving journey

Caregivers Stories: Marianne Sciucco, RN, Author and co-founder AlzAuthors shares her caregiving journey

#caregiversstories #alzauthors

Caregivers Stories episode Kimberly D. Scott interviews Marianne Sciucco a registered nurse, author and co-founder of Alzauthors.

As a child, Marianne dreamed of becoming a writer when she grew up. She studied English and creative writing and got a job as a journalist after she graduated. But then she realized that it was not working for her. So she then decided to take up nursing for she wanted a career where she will be able to help people. Her very first job was in a long-term care facility, then as her career bloomed, she became a case manager and it was during one of her shift at work in that job where she met the couple that becomes the characters on her first novel, “Blue Hydrangeas, an Alzheimer's Love Story”. With her novel in place, it eventually morphed into her current project which is Alzauthors, a global community of writers who are writing about all dementia from their personal experience.

After Marianne’s novel was published, she found herself living her own story for her stepfather got diagnosed with dementia. She was the one responsible for him, for he signed her to be his health care proxy and power of attorney. With the trust that was given to her, she took care of his legal, medical and financial needs and at the same time dealt with her mother’s health problems and decline.

With her juggling her career, family and becoming a caregiver, she shared that once the doctor confirms the dementia diagnosis, the next step that needs to be done is to visit the attorney's office and start the paperwork. The legal matter needs to be taken care of right away because once the person is deemed no longer competent then they can't sign any documents. Making it hard to process things on behalf of your loved one.

Listen to the rest of the interview for Marianne highlighted the steps on what you need to do, how you can get the information that you need and the importance of knowing how to handle not just your loved one's needs but also your needs as a caregiver. There are so many pain points that Kimberly and Marianne discussed in this interview that you shouldn’t miss. Spare a little of your time for it's guaranteed that you will forever carry the lessons they'll impart.

Caregivers Stories: Peggy Bushy, Author of Lewy, Mom & Me shares how she went from daughter to caregiver to her mother

#caregiversstories #lewybodydementia

According to the Lewy Body Dementia Association, Lewy body dementia affects more than 1 million individuals in the United States. A lot of new cases are identified over a specific period, but it is widely accepted to be highly underdiagnosed and is the most frequently misdiagnosed form of dementia. On this episode of Caregiver Stories, Kimberly D. Scott, interviews Peggy Bushy author of Lewy, Mom and Me.

Peggy shared her share of struggle when her mom was affected with one. Her mother was around 50 years old when she started hallucinating. She would tell wild stories that became so vivid, she would say there were men in her bed. Peggy did not know what was going on. At first, she thought she had elderly schizophrenia but when her cousin told her to search Lewy body dementia, she knew that it matches with what her mother has.  So she made an appointment to have her checked. She tried to tell her mother’s primary care doctor about what she suspected, but she was just told that her mother was fine. After jumping from one appointment to another and not getting any help at all, Peggy decided to join a support group. This was where she met the person who recommended a neurologist who finally was able to diagnose her mother correctly. This took her about six months after to get her properly diagnosed and put her mother on medication.

Listen to the whole interview for Peggy and Kimberly discussed a handful of information that will help you and anybody close to you to know more about Lewy body dementia. Don’t forget to share this information with your social media accounts to raise awareness. A small click of the share button can go a long away.  Learn more about Peggy: https://peggybushy.com/

Industry Celebrities: Rachel Ani Gives Hair & Beauty Industry Advice & Why She loves being a Hair Stylist

Industry Celebrities: Rachel Ani Gives Hair & Beauty Industry Advice & Why She loves being a Hair Stylist

This episode of Industry Celebrities, Kimberly D. Scott interviews Rachel Ani, a talented licensed hairstylist and makeup artist at Salon D.

In 2002, after Rachel graduated, she started her basics at the University of North Texas. After she finished her freshmen year, she was offered by her uncle, Ardem Keshishian - the owner of Salon D - to work as a part-time receptionist at his Salon. With her background in makeup, she used the opportunity to hone her skills by doing events like weddings, proms, and special occasions. While working at the salon, she had thought about going to cosmetology school. The turning point was when she was sitting in her accounting class and she felt like she was drowning by being there. She never went back after that because she knew that she did not want to be trapped on something she did not want to do. This decision made her parents upset. It’s understandable because every parent would want their child to be able to finish a degree.

What’s admirable about Rachel is the fact that she was brave enough to pursue what she was really passionate about. Her heart belonged behind the chair so she took a leap and studied Cosmetology at Paul Mitchell School and graduated with honors. The beauty industry gave sparks of joy to Rachel because aside from creating and immensely improving her client's beauty, she loved the feeling of being with clients who were always happy to get pampered by her. This was the kind of joy that made her love her work even more.

So to all those who wanted to get into the beauty industry, she wants to remind all the aspiring hair and makeup stylists to be prepared, to always take the challenge on doing something out of your comfort zones and never stop improving yourself because these are the best ways to hone your skills.

Looking back, after every road that she traveled, her piece of advice for her younger self and to those who are feeling unsure on which road to take for their career is to take the time to explore all the options and to never follow someone's cookie cutter mold they put out for your life. Listen to your heart, ponder on what career you want for yourself and know what it’s going to take to get you there without fully worrying on the dollar amount that goes with that career.
