Episode #20 - THE LONE RANGER RIDES AGAIN Pt. 2
This week the Pete's once again travel back to yesteryear for part two  of a look at the one who started it all, The Lone Ranger!  We will continue our discussion of  the original radio plays, the TV series starring Clayton Moore, as well as visiting 2 attempts at a cartoon series, another TV pilot, and the 2013 box office disaster "The Lone Ranger".  We also present a special interview with comedian  Jay Thomas about his meeting Clayton Moore.   From out of the past come the thundering hoof beats of the great horse Silver....................!!   John Reid was born in 1850 and was the sole survivor of a group of Texas Rangers who were ambushed by outlaws who killed five rangers, including his older brother, Daniel. The IndianTonto found him and nursed him to health. Reid then donned a black mask made from his dead brother’s vest, mounted his stallion, Silver, and roamed the West as the Lone Ranger to aid those in need, to fight evil, and to establish justice. The character was created in the Lone Ranger radio program by George W. Trendle and Fran Striker. First aired on radio station WXYZ in Detroit, Michigan, in 1933, the radio program was carried by more than 400 American stations by the end of the decade. It was radio that made the Lone Ranger’s theme song, Gioachino Rossini’s William Tell overture, a familiar tune in every child’s repertoire, and it was radio that made “Hi-yo, Silver, away!” a familiar playground exclamation. The Lone Ranger’s first movie serial appeared in 1938. In 1949 a television version of the radio show debuted on the ABC network, and the sounds were linked to images and actors who became equally familiar. Clayton Moore played the Lone Ranger for the majority of the episodes, and Jay Silverheels became the embodied Tonto. Although the radio program ended in 1954 and the television show in 1957, the Lone Ranger’s adventures continued in various forms, including the movies The Legend of the Lone Ranger (1981) and The Lone Ranger (2013).

The show stars already-established Marvel Comics characters Spider-Man and Iceman, plus an original character, Firestar. As a trio called the Spider-Friends, they fought against various villains of the Marvel Universe. Originally broadcast on NBC as a Saturday morning cartoon, the series ran first-run original episodes for three seasons, from 1981 to 1983, then aired repeats for an additional two years (from 1984 to 1986). Alongside the 1981 Spider-Man animated series, Peter Parker (Spider-Man), Bobby Drake (Iceman), and Angelica Jones (Firestar) are all college students at Empire State University. After working together to defeat the Beetle and recovering the "Power Booster" he stole from Tony Stark (a.k.a. Iron Man) the trio decide to team-up permanently as the "Spider-Friends". They live together in Peter's aunt's home with her and a pet dog, Ms. Lion (adopted from Firestar), a Lhasa Apso. Together, the superheroes battle various supervillains. Some stories featured team-ups with other characters from the Marvel Universe, including Captain America, Thor, Iron Man, Sunfire, and the mid-1970's X-Men. Kathy Garver was born in Long Beach, California Her break-through performance came as one of the young slaves in The Ten Commandments She is most well known for starring as the teenage niece of Uncle Bill Davis, Cissy Davis on Family Affair (1966). Episode #12: CLAYTON "Bud" COLLYER (Radio's Superman)
Fresh off their successful appearance at Pensacon, the guys are back at it.  This week they return to the exciting world of Superman!  ALL the way back to the first commercial incarnation other than the comic pages.  Along the way we also feature the return of Mr. John Field.  John last joined us on our episode featuring George Reeves (TV's first Superman).  John also possesses extensive knowledge of "Bud" Collyer, and the early radio days of Superman! The Adventures of Superman is a long-running radio serial that originally aired from 1940 to 1951 featuring the DC Comics character Superman. The serial came to radio as a syndicated show on New York City's WOR on February 12, 1940. On Mutual, it was broadcast from August 31, 1942, to February 4, 1949, as a 15-minute serial, running three or, usually, five times a week. From February 7 to June 24, 1949, it ran as a thrice-weekly half-hour show. The series shifted to ABC Saturday evenings on October 29, 1949, and then returned to afternoons twice a week on June 5, 1950, continuing on ABC until March 1, 1951.  In all, 2,088 original episodes of The Adventures of Superman aired on American radio.  In the first few episodes, Superman's home planet of Krypton is located on the far side of the sun, as opposed to a distant star system as it is in most stories. During the journey to Earth, baby Kal-el grows into an adult and emerges fully grown from his ship after it lands on Earth. He is never adopted by the Kents but immediately begins his superhero career.  This was eventually retconned in later episodes to match the narrative of the comic books. This serial introduced the fictional mineral kryptonite, the radiation from which can weaken and even (in some continuities) kill Superman. Aside from giving Superman's foes a plausible way to fight him, it also allowed Superman's voice actor to take the occasional break: Superman would spend the next episode incapacitated, his groans voiced by a substitute actor, Just as Superman's true identity remained a secret, the identity of radio actor Clayton 'Bud' Collyer also remained a secret from 1940 until 1946, when the character of Superman was used in a promotional campaign for racial and religious tolerance and Collyer did a Time magazine interview about that campaign. Since there were no reruns at that time, the series often used plot devices and plot twists to allow Collyer to have vacation time. Kryptonite allowed Superman to be incapacitated and incoherent with pain while the secondary characters took the focus instead. At other times, Batman (Stacy Harris) and Robin (Ronald Liss) appeared on the program in Superman's absence. The scripts by B. P. Freeman and Jack Johnstone were directed by Robert and Jessica Maxwell, George Lowther, Allen Ducovny and Mitchell Grayson. Sound effects were created by Jack Keane, Al Binnie, Keene Crockett and John Glennon. Many aspects associated with Superman, such as kryptonite, originated on radio, as did certain characters, including Daily Planet editor Perry White, copy boy Jimmy Olsen and police inspector Bill Henderson.   On March 2, 1945, Superman met Batman and Robin for the first time. Paramount's animated Superman short films used voices by the radio actors, and Columbia's Superman movie serials (1948, 1950) were "adapted from the Superman radio program broadcast on the Mutual Network".

Episode #10 - THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN '77 TELEVISION SERIES
In this episode we discuss the first prime-time 'live-action' version of Spiderman to hit screens.  The series 'The Amazing Spider-Man', starring Nicholas Hammond, debuted in 1977, and ran off and on until 1979.  Although only 13 episodes were produced, it still holds a place in our hearts as the first time we, as kids, saw a live version of Spider-Man.  We discuss all the Pros and Cons associated with this show. We also discuss the weird Japanese version of Spiderman which debuted in 1978.  Loosely based (VERY loosely) on the Marvel Comics hero.

Episode #9 - SHANNON FARNON (Voice of 'Wonder Woman' in "The Superfriends")
In this episode, we are honored to chat with Shannon Farnon, an accomplished actress and voiceover artist.  Most fans remember her as the voice of Wonder Woman on "The Superfriends", a part she played for 10 years.  She is a charming woman, and lovely inside and out.  We know that you will enjoy our chat with this fantastic lady! Shannon starred in film, television, commercials and cartoons, however her first role was in 1965 in an uncredited role on Burke's Law. She went on to appear in multiple other television series, but was most active in commercials. While playing a mother in a live-action commercial in 1973 for Flintstone vitamins she was approached by voice director Wally Burr to audition for what was to be her most long-running famous role, Wonder Woman on Super Friends. From 1973 to 1983, Farnon voiced the Amazonian superheroine on Super Friends, Challenge of the Super Friends, The All-New Super Friends Hour, The World's Greatest Super Friends and the revival of Super Friends. Farnon did voice several incidental characters, such as Lois Lane and Hawkgirl on some of the series and also played Kim Butler in Valley of the Dinosaurs in 1974, but mainly she did the voice of Wonder Woman. She voiced Wonder Woman on many Cartoon Network promos and went on to appear in several films and television series, but since 2005, her acting appearances have been infrequent. She has voiced various commercials, including Betty Crocker, Nivea, Kodak, National World War II Memorial, Oil of Olay, Scotchgard and Cartoon Network spoofs of The Super Friends. We would also like to Thank Joe Stuber from Comic Book Central  for the use of their image for this episode!  Please visit them for some more great stuff!!  https://www.facebook.com/comicbookcentralnetwork

Episode #6 - JOHN DAVEY (Captain Marvel in SHAZAM!)
In Part 2 of our look at the classic 1970's Filmation program SHAZAM!,  Pete and Pete get the rare opportunity to speak with actor John Davey!  John portrayed Captain Marvel in the 2nd and 3rd seasons of SHAZAM!, and we were pleased to get the chance to speak with him, as he does not do many interviews.  Thanks to the recent release of the mid-1970s SHAZAM! (1974) series on DVD, John Davey is now being remembered as one of TV's early superheroes, Captain Marvel. He did the role in a total of thirteen TV episodes, eleven times in SHAZAM! and three times in the spin-off series,  The Secrets of Isis (1975).  Davey's Marvel might seem too clean and simple to many of today's youth (which is unfortunate, because we need these heroes!!), but to kids of the 1970s, Davey played a positive role model in a series that will never be forgotten, SHAZAM! We consider this one of our best chats!  What a fantastic time we had getting to know John, and give him the opportunity to talk about his career and memories of this show.  We hope you will laugh along with us and have as great a time as we did with one of the nicest people you could meet, John Davey!!
