Translation Disagreements in Deuteronomy 32:8 (Ep 170)

In this exciting episode, join Peter Goeman as he welcomes Mark Ward, a gifted NT scholar who works for Faithlife and Logos. They delve deep into the intriguing discrepancies found among key Bible translations regarding Deuteronomy 32:8. Discover the interesting evidence translators consider and the likely interpretation of this text. Dive into an engaging discussion about the influence of the Septuagint (the Greek Translation of the Old Testament) and the Masoretic Text (the principal Hebrew Text) on modern English translations. Understand how these texts shape our understanding of biblical history and theology.

Moreover, Peter and Mark explore the critical question: How should we integrate the teachings of Deuteronomy 32:8 into our theological framework? This conversation is not just about translation—it's about understanding the essence of biblical teachings. For more on Mark Ward:

8 Insights Your Pastor Wants you to Know About Podcasts (Ep 169)

In this digital era, we enjoy unparalleled access to information. Increasingly, Christians are leveraging YouTube and podcasts as tools for growth and education. While this represents an extraordinary opportunity, it's not without its pitfalls for church communities. Many pastors and church leaders express concern over unique challenges they face in this information-saturated age. In this episode, I aim to spark a dialogue about the role of podcasts in Christian learning. It's vital to understand how these resources can complement, not substitute, the invaluable guidance of the godly church leaders God has placed in our lives.

Revelation 20, the Binding of Satan, the Resurrections, and the 1000 Year Reign of Christ (Ep 161)

Matt Waymeyer joins us again to talk about the disputed text of Revelation 20. We talk about whether Satan is currently bound, or if Revelation 20 is speaking of a future event. We also talk about the resurrections and whether those should be viewed as physical resurrections or if one can be spiritual. Finally we talk about whether we should expect the multiple mentions of 1000 years in Revelation 20 to be symbolic or whether we should expect Jesus to come back and reign for a 1000 years. A great discussion on eschatology and how we should understand Revelation 20.

What does Al Mohler think of Dispensationalism? A Review [Part 1] (Ep 155)

In this episode, Peter Goeman and Doug Bookman team up to review Al Mohler's interview of Daniel Hummel, concerning his book, "The Rise and Fall of Dispensationalism." Goeman and Bookman assess the interview and discuss the kinds of objections that are often brought up against dispensationalism as a system. Topics covered: whether dispensationalism is a valid way of interpreting the Bible, whether dispensationalism originated with Darby, whether dispensationalism is too complicated, and whether it is significant that dispensationalism is waning in the academy.

A Man After God's Own Heart? An Alternative Interpretation (Ep 154)

A Man After God's Own Heart? An Alternative Interpretation (Ep 154)

In 1 Samuel 13:14 the Bible says that David was a man after God's own heart. But what does the phrase, "a man after His heart" mean? Normally people assume it means that David had a heart that was the same as God's heart. However, if that is true, how could David have commited adultery and murder? In this episode we explore an alternative (and more likely) meaning of what it means that David was a man after God's own heart.

Titus 1:6 Examined: Is it a a Requirement for an Elder to Have Believing Children? (Ep 149)

In this video we look at Titus 1:6 and examine elder qualifications. Titus 1:6 says that an elder (a church leader or pastor) should have "children who believe" (NASB) or "faithful children" (LSB). Which translation better conveys the qualification for a church leader? Tim Miller (Shepherds Theological Seminary) joins us to talk about this vital topic.

Ep 127: Using the Mosaic Law in Ethics

This episode is from a presentation at the Shepherds 360 conference on ethics. The presentation discussed the believer's relationship to the Law and how we might use the Law in making ethical decisions. There is a PowerPoint along with the presentation, which can be accessed here. The presentation will make sense without the PowerPoint if you are just listening.
