A survey conducted by the Cultural Research Center at Arizona Christian University found that American adults today increasingly adopt a “salvation-can-be-earned” perspective. A plurality of adults (48 percent) believes that if a person is generally good, or does enough good things during their life, they will “earn” a place in heaven. Only one-third of adults (35 percent) disagree. This is a huge problem. Who is teaching or preaching these things? Is this due to the lack of solid gospel-centered preaching? According to Dr. Ray Oldenburg (of the University of West Florida in Pensacola), there are three places where we go: work, home, and the third place is where you get your identity.
