You know in editing you use a screenshot, zoom in on detail and get low resolution pixels, it sucks. Well, these filmmakers figured out how to get high res screenshots, then used that method to tell a story entirely through a computer screen with the movie Missing (2023) starring Story Reid, and they made $45 million with it. The editing process and behind the scenes for the movie is incredible, and we want to unpack what is going on in here. SO we interviewed the editors of Missing Arielle Zakowski and Austin Keeling, and went behind the scenes on the process of telling the story through a computer screen with high resolution screen recordings, the technical details to HOW to make it look not pixellated, and their storytelling philosophies on how to guide the audience through mystery

The story of “Euphoria” is there is little story, but enormous emotion, because that’s what growing up is like. Instead of plot being what motivates their show, they prioritize the emotion and showcase what their characters do with that emotion. We asked the editors of “Euphoria” how we can prioritize and express emotion, instead of feeling obligated to plot. We began with an editing breakdown of one of “Euphoria’s” iconic scenes.

It’s every filmmaker’s dream, $1,250,000 dollars to make the documentary you’ve always wanted. But Yes Theory said no. “Project Iceman” is a documentary about the man who completed an Iron Man Triathlon in the most dangerous place on earth, Antarctica. Even more impressively, this movie was funded entirely by the subscribers of the YouTube channel Yes Theory. We sat down with Ammar and his DP/Editor Victor. In our conversation, we explored how the editing process was challenging, how they prioritized emotion in their visual storytelling, and what this means for the future of YouTube filmmakers.

Why do filmmakers hate Youtube? James Cameron has hired someone immediately after watching their YouTube video. But if you’re posting your artsy film on YouTube, and working with YouTube’s “retention rules” doesn’t that mean you can’t make your film the way you intend?   We honestly don’t know if YouTube is a good or bad place for new filmmakers, but we wanted to explore these ideas with Sven Pape. He has edited films that have been to Sundance and Cannes, but he is best known for his YouTube channel ThisGuyEdits. Sven is the rare content creator who has a foot both in the Youtube world and in the traditional film world. And so we wanted to have the conversation.
