Greetings and salutations, dear listeners! This month is a mix of old and new as Dante, Regina, and Isabela explore four exciting properties: Locke & Key (Netflix), Good Omens (Amazon Prime), Good Girls (NBC), and Birds of Prey and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn (Warner Bros).  Join us for an hour of lighthearted banter and at least 10 minutes of Dante having strong feelings about Birds of Prey. TGE Ep 65 – Women of Game of Thrones Panel at GeekGirlCon 2018
If you’ve ever wanted to listen to some of the ambassadors for The Geek Embassy wax poetic about the women of Game of Thrones, now is your chance! Nicole, Isabela, and I were joined by authors Andrew and Demetria at GeekGirlCon 2018 to discuss what we love and hate about the women of Game of Thrones. It was truly an honor to be on this panel and to be featured on the main stage. We had a great audience and an engaging conversation. Panel Description So Different Yet Still the Same: The Women of Game of Thrones Game of Thrones isn’t particularly kind to any of its characters, but the women generally get abused more than the men. Their individual circumstances and personalities help them fit nicely into different literary archetypes. But despite their differences, they all share some archetypes as well. Join us as we explore the character arcs of the major female characters taking a look at where they came from, where they’ve been and why they have more in common than you might think. Panelist Bios Nicole Tanner Nicole is a geeky mom, aspiring novelist, and lover of all things gaming. She’s spent more than 15 years talking about video games, so it’s only natural that she’s turned her attention to a different “game.” Nicole loves the opportunity to geek out about Game of Thrones. (She needs something to do while waiting for the next season.) Regina McMenomy Regina is the founder and head geek at The Geek Embassy. Studying and writing about geeks and geek culture is Regina’s favorite thing to do when she’s not reading student papers, dancing an excessive amount of calories away, or chasing after her daughter. Inclined towards social and mobile gaming, Regina also loves a good round of 7 Wonders, Qwirkle, Small World, or Lords of Waterdeep. Someday, she hopes to actually take part in a D&D campaign so she can officially roll a character and role play her as a devious, highly intelligent mischief maker, which would be nothing like she is in real life. Isabela Oliveira Isabela Oliveira is a renaissance geek, in the sense that she knows a little about a whole lot of things, including cosplay and podcasting. She is always looking for the next great television show to marathon and for the next exciting thing to learn about. In her spare time, she works as an editor for The Geek Embassy and gets involved in as many geeky projects as possible.  Demetria Spinrad By day, Demetria is the managing editor of Tuck.com, a comprehensive site about sleep hygiene, health, and wellness. By night, she writes the science fiction serial Astra Nullius, practices martial arts, and reads every book she can get her hands on. Andrew Buckley Andrew Buckley is a traditionally published author of rather silly, yet enjoyable fiction for adults, teens, and tweens. As an ex-pat Brit living in BC, Canada, Andrew is a passionate nerd, movie-lover, avid reader, comic book geek, public speaker, podcaster, and dances a mean cha-cha. His upper middle grade novel series HAIR IN ALL THE WRONG PLACES (Books #1 & #2) are available now from Month9Books with Book#3 coming Fall 2018.

TGE Ep 59 – Watches: Deadpool 2
Hello and welcome to The Geek Embassy Watches Deadpool 2! Join your host Dante Buccieri and his X-Force sized cast of Evan, Regina, and Tahani on their discussion of the latest irreverent and fourth-wall breaking installment of the Deadpool franchise. We go full-on spoilerific in this episode, so if you haven’t seen Deadpool 2, consider yourself warned. We’ve got fridges and bad jokes for everyone this week, so buckle up and break out the chimichangas. Deadpool 2  Deadpool, our lovable merc with a mouth, joins the X-Men on a trainee basis and becomes the unwitting and unwilling guardian of Firefist, a young pyrokinetic mutant, as he is relentlessly pursued by the time-traveling cyborg soldier named Cable. Our DIscussion To be honest, we didn't think we would have much to say about this continuation of the Deadpool story. It is a pretty straightforward sequel that plays on many of the same jokes we saw on the first one. We talk about the evolution of Deadpool's character and story and whether or not Vanessa was fridged.  To Discuss What did you think of Deadpool 2? What about Vanessa's character arch? The cameos? TGE Ep 56 – Reads: Becky Chambers' "The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet"
Greetings, Geeks! Welcome to The Geek Embassy Reads! In this episode, we discuss Becky Chambers' novel, "The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet." *   Our Discussion This book was quite the divisive read for our ambassadors. Two of us loved it, two of us hated it, and one was in the middle. We wrestle a bit with the discussion, bouncing back and forth between each outlook. Although we are divided about the book, everyone could at least come up with a few positives for the characters, story, and universe Chambers created.

TGE Ep 43 – Halloween Special: A Dramatic Reading of H. P. Lovecraft
Greetings, ladies, gentlemen, and others. A bit of a departure this week from my usual ramblings, in celebration of my favorite holiday: All Hallow's Eve. Instead of a written piece, The Geek Embassy has granted me the opportunity to present a dramatic reading of a piece penned by one of the great masters of modern ethereal horror: H. P. Lovecraft, and his short story, The Outsider. I will be the first to express bias towards this tale, as it imitates the voice of another famed horror writer, Edgar Allan Poe, a personal favorite of mine. And it is true, Lovecraft is the mind behind Cthulhu, one of the most recognizable icons in popular contemporary culture. But just as Poe penned more than The Raven and The Tell-Tale Heart, so too did Lovecraft offer more than tales of Innismouth and the brood of Yog Sothoth. So today, tonight, this very hour, The Geek Embassy presents a tale of a singular being, isolated in a far-away tower in a far-off land. A being thirsty for discovery, for freedom and exploration, who may yet find themselves drowning...

TGE Ep 39 – Baskets & Capes at RCCC
Greetings, Geeks! Today, I have a recording of our recent panel at Rose City Comic Con for your listening and geeking out pleasure. This is the third time we have presented this topic but each time is different, largely because we depend so much on audience participation. Because come on. The best panels let YOU speak. Am I right or am I right? RCCC Audiences Rock The audience at RCCC was engaged and engaging. They knew a lot about fairy tales from the very start of the panel which is not how it has gone for us in the past. Usually, I pose the question to the audience intending to trick them and tell them that everything they know is wrong. I couldn't do that this session because other than one comment about fairy tales being "for kids," everything the audience shared was spot on. It is such a joy and a pleasure to present this panel but even more so when the audience truly appreciates our efforts. Jesse came up to the stage after we presented and bestowed us with her declaration of "best panel of the con." Her enthusiastic comments contributed to how flawlessly this panel went for us. She told us we should make it two hours next time. (I'll check with RCCC and see if we can do something just like that next year.) Unfortunately, my friend and colleague and expert in fairy tales, Jennifer Leaver, was unable to attend this time. She is working on a guest post with reading suggestions on this topic for the near future. A New Panelist It's also noteworthy that this is the first time that Dante sat on as a panelist. At Wizard World, he moderated the panel and did his best to keep us on track. For RCCC, his analysis of Green Lantern was flawless and perfectly engaged not just what we were presenting but the audience's interest as well. Isabela and I have both had some practice presenting about Jessica Jones and Guardians of the Galaxy respectively. But Dante's example and thoughtful commentary was truly outstanding. I am always proud of the work we do here at The Geek Embassy but never more so than when we are out at cons representing the site and our geeky interests. I have another article I am working on that will go into greater depth on that topic but I will save it for another time. Check out the panel and let us know your thoughts! Until next time, get your geek on!Regina & Isabela & Dante

TGE Ep 38 – TGE Geeks Out Over Motor Crush!
Recently, I had the distinct pleasure of interviewing three comic book hotshots at Rose City Comic Con. Fortune favored me and I got a chance to talk to Brenden Fletcher, Cameron Stewart, And Babs Tarr about their latest offering from Image Comics: Motor Crush. When I went through the list of books available for interview, Motor Crush raced to the top because the premise seemed so unique and inherently feminist. Domino Swift is a woman of color competing in the dangerous world of moto racing. She lives her life perched between the official racing world, and dangerous street racing where she competes for the hot pink engine boosting substance, "Crush." Torn between two worlds that demand every ounce of her spirit, she battles her own demons and those out to get her. My jaw dropped at the end of the first volume and I can't wait to see what comes next. This is a live recording and unfortunately, I wasn't able to get a video to go with it. Check it out and order your own copy of Motor Crush Volume 1 now! Get your geek on! Regina

TGE Ep 37 – Plays: Pathfinder – Finale! Coups & Contracts
The time has come, our faithful listeners! It's our finale, Coups & Contracts! Our merry band of adventurers has found their way into the biggest battle they have ever faced! The journey ends here at the very place it began with the characters we met in our very first episode. Don't miss this exciting battle as we roll dice, take and give damage, and greatly enjoy our time together. Did our characters live or die in this battle? You must listen to find out! Many thanks to Evan for writing this original Pathfinder story. The Keeper of the Dead proved to be a fertile learning ground for those of us unfamiliar with pen and paper role-playing games. I feel much better versed in the mechanics of the game but still feel like I have a lot to learn about active and engaged role-playing. As always, we love your feedback. Let us know in the comments about your first role-playing campaign and what you learned during that journey. Watch our entire journey on the YouTube playlist. TGE Ep 36 - Watches: Dunkirk
In this episode of TGE Watches, Mark, Ryan, and I discuss Christopher Nolan's epic Dunkirk. We decided to break our summer movie superhero run with quite a different epic film. Two of us enjoyed it and one was quite very disappointed. Official Description Three different perspectives with overlapping time periods: one week on land, one day at sea, and one hour in the air, create a non-linear narrative. Introductory text at the start of the movie says that in 1940, after the invasion of France, hundreds of thousands of Allied soldiers had retreated to Dunkirk. As German forces close in, they await evacuation in a seemingly hopeless situation. Our Analysis Our opinions differed greatly in pretty much every aspect of the film. Mark shares his disappointment that the setting didn't look truer to the actual beaches during the war. (See photos below for comparison.) Ryan and I both appreciated the artistic nature of the movie overall and how it was surprisingly deep. I will heartily admit it is hard to follow at the start, especially if you don't know the details of the battle particularly well. Watch and listen to hear our thoughtful analysis.

Greetings, Adventurers! We return again to the depths of the Vastwood and find our characters traveling back toward civilization. Nictis Loath travels with our merry band of adventurers. As you'll remember from episode 8, we discovered Nictis the only living person among a community of powerful mage ghosts. Nictis berates our characters with questions about every living thing. Having not been around other living people, his excitement is understandable even if a little on the annoying side. The group also discovers that Nictis might be a little more powerful than they originally expected. Will this help or hinder their experience? Check out the episode and see. Official Game of Thrones Description Summers span decades. Winters can last a lifetime. And the struggle for the Iron Throne continues. It stretches from the south, where heat breeds plots, lusts, and intrigues, to the vast and savage eastern lands, where a young queen raises an army. All the while, in the frozen north, an 800-foot wall of ice precariously protects the war-ravaged kingdom from the dark forces that lie beyond. Kings and queens, knights and renegades, liars, lords and honest men...all play the 'Game of Thrones.' An original series based on George R.R. Martin's best-selling 'A Song of Ice and Fire' series.

TGE Ep 29 – Plays: Pathfinder – Nictis Loath
Our last adventure saw our traveling band of heroes negotiate their way into the next part of the adventure. Trusting Hargath's instinct that the ghost wardens, Byron and Celeste, were protecting something of great and dangerous power, we are invited beyond the veil. In this episode, many secrets will be revealed including the purpose and power behind the Void Scythe. Pivotal plot twists a'ho! TGE Ep 27 – Plays: Pathfinder – The Haunted Murk
Our band of merry role players continues their journey after taking out a small band of goblins in our last episode. After a successful fight full of magic fireballs and dopey goblins attacks, we rescue the half-elf commander, Vanya Brightmoor. She joins the group with little reservation after we risk our lives to save and free her. In many ways, this fight brings our heroes together and proves their worth as a team. Sevarka (Dante) impresses us all with her amazing fireball of doom. Hargath (Mark) impresses us with his spells and healing power and taking the time to make sure Freya (Isabela) recovered completely from her wound. Neraden (Regina) cleaves her way into the hearts and heads of the enemy. It was a great episode.

TGE Ep 26 - Watches: Wonder Woman
Summer continues and the biggest summer movie of the year is the feature on the latest episode of The Geek Embassy Watches!* Wonder Woman!  But seriously folks, this summer's Wonder Woman movie has been the topic of much debate and discussion all over the internets. As a long time fan with a very serious personal connection to Wonder Woman, I'll be the first to admit that I was worried how well my favorite Amazon princess might be treated on the big screen. I'm thankful for the outcome.

TGE Ep 25 – Plays: Pathfinder – Goblin Battle!
Episode 5 left our adventurers in a bit of a pickle. In fact, in the business, we call that a cliffhanger. After scouting out a Goblin camp, the group discovers that there is a survivor being held captive by the gang of goblins they followed after finding signs of the previous scouting party. A goblin battle prevails! This episode finds our heroes in some real trouble, fighting tooth and nail for the sake of the group. We have some fun rolls, some crazy things happen, and we all have great fun. We sure hope you enjoy watching! Until next time, get your geek on!Regina & Mark & Dante & Isabela & Evan

TGE Ep 24 - Favorite Parental Figures
You love them... most of the time. Some are good, some are bad, some are so good we tear up talking about them. For this hangout, we share our favorite parental figures from TV shows, movies, and books. We combined May and June's hangout into one epic conversation. I had the idea to talk about favorite moms for May's hangout since we were scheduled to record around Mother's Day. When we had to reschedule, it made sense to make it a May and June parental figures celebration. Each of us came with a different set of priorities and considerations for the characters we shared.  One ambassador had a truly epic list. (Cough cough Dante cough cough.) One of the most interesting ideas that we cover is how rarely we think about parental characters just in general. It's easy and natural to talk about heroes or heroines, villains and even minions. But sitting down to think about favorite mentors and parents is something we rarely consider. Give it a listen and let us know what you think! Until next time, get your geek on!Regina & Isabela & Dante & Evan

TGE Ep 23 - Plays: Pathfinder - Finding the Path
Greetings, Geeks! Finding the path is the next move in our adventurers' journey. It's not a clear move forward after running into a giant spider nest but our adventurers persevere. They find new complexities await them at the base of the mountains. Each episode takes them closer to the final dangers they will face. The road is not clear and easy; instead, it is covered with dead and decaying forest but also some more dangerous and sentient creatures. As the new player to pen and paper role-playing campaigns, I make sure to slow down and ask about the rules at several points in this episode. I realized at one point that we were skimming over some pretty important play mechanics. Since a key component of The Geek Embassy's mission is to help facilitate learning, I wanted to make sure we covered exactly what was happening during the fighting. And anyway, the fights are the best part of the adventure. Well, that and Evan's voice characterizations. Until next time, get your geek on! Regina & Mark & Isabela, & Dante & Evan

TGE Ep 22 - Plays: Pathfinder - Denizens of the Vastwood
Greetings, Geeks! Have you been anxiously awaiting the next chapter in our journey? Wait no longer, dear adventurer! Episode 4 of our adventure takes our traveling band of would-be heroes deeper into the darkness of the Vastwood. We encounter more than a few dangerous creatures in this leg of our journey. Perils of the Gartooth Swamp saw our first fight so we pick up this episode amidst the fallout from that fight. The denizens of Vastwood are less than welcoming. Each of our characters reacts differently to the fallout from the fight and taking the next step forward as we search for the trinket that set us on this path.

And away we go where the perils abound! This week finds our adventurers in the thick of the action. Hargath, Sevarka, Nera, and Freya finally on foot entering the swamp and they run into their first foe. The excitement builds in this episode as our adventurers begin to understand the depth of the dangers present in the Vastwood. But our party will not be intimidated by the size of the foes they will fight! No! We will press ever onward. Don't miss this episode where you can see Nera (Regina) roll terribly but still swing a big ax, watch Sevarka (Dante) joke around, Hargarth (Mark) do some magical serious damage, and Freya (Isabela) aim her bow for the first time. We laugh a lot and hope you will too!

TGE Ep 18 - Plays: Pathfinder - The Antiquarian and The Wooden Man
Greetings, Fellow Adventurers! On this holiest of geeky holidays, International Tabletop Day, The Geek Embassy welcomes you to follow us on a Pathfinder role-play adventure. Isabela, Mark, Dante and I will take our newly rolled characters on an adventure handcrafted for us by Evan Graham. In today's intro video, we share with you our character backstories, and a few hints about the story we will be exploring. This campaign will be a journey in exploration and learning for me. This is my first ever pen and paper role play experience. I've wanted to jump into a true role-playing game since I started my dissertation research almost 10 years ago. I noted in one of the texts I used how ironic it was that role players are often disparaged for their "performance" but we pay movie actors huge amounts of money to play scripted characters. It takes so much more imagination and innovation to improvise a character in a setting like this. As you will see just from this introduction, I have a lot to learn. I'm delighted to share my experience with the community here. I hope you all will join us on our journey and watch and learn along with me. Let's get this party started! Geek on! TGE Ep 17 - What is Your Harry Potter House?
Come on, admit it. You've taken a Harry Potter house quiz or two. It's a great geeky time killer at the very least. This month, we decided to take a few quizzes and compare results. Isabela, Evan, and I have lots of opinions about all things Harry Potter, not just the house definitions and meanings. We open with a brief discussion of Fantastic Beasts and The Cursed Child to kick off our discussion. I get all the names wrong. All of them. For those who might not be as well versed in the Hogwarts houses, summaries of each house (taken from the Harry Potter Wiki): Gryffindor values bravery, daring, nerve, and chivalry. Its emblematic animal is the lion and its colors are scarlet and gold. Hufflepuff values hard work, dedication, patience, loyalty, and fair play. Its emblematic animal is the badger and its colors are yellow and black. Ravenclaw values intelligence, knowledge, and wit. Its emblematic animal is the eagle and its colors are blue and bronze. Slytherin house values ambition, cunning, and resourcefulness. Its emblematic animal is the serpent and its colors are emerald green and silver. The fandom dedicated to Harry Potter is highly devoted and there are many ways to look at the Hogwarts Houses. We have a great time discussing the quizzes and our own desires to sort ourselves into the house we truly feel the most aligned to.

TGE Ep 16 - Guilty Pleasures
Guilty pleasures! We had a great time at this hangout. First, we discuss what makes something a guilty pleasure. We decided it's often something you don't talk much about, you generally don't tell your friends or your family about it. Sometimes it might make you feel a little embarrassed that you enjoy it so much. Or it might be a show or movie that you watch and watch over and over again. Isabela previously discussed how guilty pleasures are often code for feminine. Romances are often described as guilty pleasures. One of the ideas we mention is they are often more light-hearted or popcorn entertainment. There seemed to be some feminine qualities to our choices but overall I think our choices have more to do with exactly how much we enjoy these pastimes. In the end, I think we all decided we would keep on enjoying our favorites, guilty, geeky, or otherwise. The most amusing part of this hangout for me was hearing us defend each other's guilty pleasures and then finally finding something Mark considered a guilty pleasure, even if he didn't want to admit it. Until next time, get your geek on! Regina & Isabela & Mark & Julie To Discuss What are your guilty pleasures? What don't you talk to your friends and family about enjoying? Let us know in the comments!

TGE Ep 15 - Capes & Baskets LIVE at Wizard World Portland 2017
Capes & Baskets: What Fairy Tales Can Teach Us about Superheroes Were you unable to attend Geek Girl Con or Wizard World in Portland, Oregon? Have you always wanted to see The Geek Embassy's ambassadors in action? Well, now is your chance! For our recent presentation in Portland, I was able to record our panel on my phone on a mini tripod recommended by a photographer friend of the show, Andrew. The sound isn't great but I think you can hear each of us well enough. Isabela is the faintest since she is farthest from the mic. I truly adore this presentation. It represents the best of The Geek Embassy: a bunch of geeks merging their interests into a completely new idea. The genesis of this presentation came from me and Jen having cocktails one spring afternoon. All of sudden I had out a notepad and we were sketching through the ideas that ended up becoming the basis for this presentation. To Discuss: Capes & Baskets What fairy tales do you love? What superhero stories could you relate to that fairy tale? Can you make the connection? Want to challenge us to?

TGE Ep 14 - February 2017 LIVE Hangout: Relationships
Relationships Those we love, those we wish for, and those we mourn. For our February hangout, we discuss relationships. We talk about canon couples: those fictional couples who set the bar for love and romantic gestures. But we've talked about those geeky relationship moments before so to spice this up we threw in our favorite doomed couples and our favorite "ships" or relationships we wish for, AKA "fanon." We've got some crazy matches in store for you and some sad couples who either had tragic ends or tragically ended their shows because they ended up together. (Writers: don't kill the sexual tension! It really ends things!) My 'ship couple brought up quite a bit of discussion and some creative ideas. Check it out to see what crazy world we really would like to see come about. We WRaP the end of the episode with what we are Watching, Reading, and Playing. So much great geeky material to discuss! Make sure to check out the live video and the podcast episode. Until next time, get your geek on! Regina & Isabela & Julie & Dante & Evan To Discuss Tell us: Your favorite couples? Who do you 'ship? Who is doomed but awesome in your mind?

TGE Ep 13 - January 2017: New Year's Hangout
New Year's Eve has come and gone but the staff of The Geek Embassy had to take some time to reflect on 2016. We suffered plenty of misery, had some good times, saw some good movies, and read some great books. 2016 is one for the record books for sure and we are hoping that 2017 will bring everyone lots of joy. Or at least fewer celebrity deaths. Rhonda and I recall our fabulous time at Geek Girl Con in Seattle. We presented a great panel titled, "Capes & Baskets: What fairy tales can teach us about superheroes." It was really well received and a blast. The comments were amazing. It was so much fun to see people take our ideas and run with them. We also offered some advice about what not to do if you have a panel at a con. (The dreaded, "We want to hear from you!" is at the top of the list.) We shared some of our expectations for 2017 and things we hope to find this year. We also shared some geeky gifts we got from the holiday season. One of Rhonda's gifts to me is going to play a pretty significant role this year for the site. Keep an eye out for that in the coming months. Unfortunately, we will not be at Emerald City Comic Con this year. Our panel and press badges were both rejected. Maybe we will make it again in 2018. Until next time, geek your geek on and have a fabulous 2017! Regina & Rhonda & Mark & Ryan

TGE Ep 11 - October 2016 LIVE Hangout
We embraced the season for October's hangout and talked about our favorite horror and suspense films. The basics are covered like our favorites but we also talk about our history with suspense and horror films, branch off into TV show, and briefly mention zombies and that show that premieres in a few weeks. Here are the questions we considered: What was your first horror/suspense movie? What movie scares you? What novel scared you? What suspense/horror movie made you laugh? What is your all time favorite suspense/horror movie? Are there horror/suspense movies that belong canon? We do a horror-themed geek and tell but I just couldn't help myself and had to share a print that my friends, Amy and Don, got for me of a little baby Wonder Woman. She is just amazing as you can clearly see from the post image. Check out Jeff Pina's work here. Unfortunately, he doesn't have any of the adorable-ness on his site but you can see some on his Facebook page. Just click on the photos and scroll down. Also, Isabela and I both wear our elf ear cuffs from Geek Girl Stuff. Yes, they look cool and they are seriously comfortable. Go order yourself a set now! Rhonda mentioned a book she picked up at Geek Girl Con, "Zombopocolypse," by Matt Youngmark at Chooseomatic Books. That's right. It's a chose your own adventure for adults. TOTALLY AWESOME. Make sure to check out his books and his super secret webcomic. New ambassador Evan Graham joined us for this hangout. Keep an eye out for a project he and I will be working on in the near future. In the meantime, order his book or mine on Inkshares. Until next time, go be awesome!

TGE Ep 10 - September 2016 LIVE Hangout
For September, we close out summer talking about our favorite geeky amusements from the season and delve into a conversation about conventions. We discuss books we are reading, and one someone is writing. We talk about games we've been playing; lots of phone and board games including Pandemic: The Cure. Binge watching addictions and series that may depend too heavily on nostalgia for some. In our discussions of the recent cons we've attended, we discuss what makes a con work and what stands out as a failure. Regina and Isabela talk about their first experience at Rose City Comic Con (they plan to go next year) and Rhonda's fifth year at Dragon Con (and likely her last). Have you ever felt like a con you were at turned into a Geek Zoo with people just coming to view the spectacle and not take part in the fandom? We share some great swag we picked up in our show and tell segment and how much we appreciate the indie artists available at smaller con venues.  Who is your favorite artist you discover while walking through Artist Alley? Share your con experience with us in the comments. The good, the bad, and the ugly! We want to know! Don't forget to check out The Geek Embassy on Instagram! TGE Ep 9 - Summer Movie Podcast - August 2016
For the last episode of our summer movie podcast series, we shake it up a bit and we both saw different movies. I saw Star Trek: Beyond and  Rhonda saw Suicide Squad. We discuss the evolution of the Star Trek movies, and the careful consideration given to all the character backstories. There is one major critique I have for the franchise. Make sure to listen and let us know if you agree. Rhonda discusses how Suicide Squad had a huge opening weekend even with less than stellar early reviews. She attributes this to the marketing of the movie and how posters and trailers and interviews (oh my!) for this movie were everywhere. How has the marketing of a movie caught your attention and did the movie hold up to the hype? (Hint: Suicide Squad definitively fell short for Rhonda.) For streaming recommendations, Regina is aghast to learn Ronda hasn't seen Stranger Things and attempts to keep her cool over how cool it is. As a secondary recommendation, Regina explains her current obsession with the Food Network shows on Netflix but especially Good Eats with Alton Brown. Rhonda suggests viewing 10 Cloverfied Lane and regrets that it took her so long to start watching it. Did you binge watch any shows this summer? As the episode ends, I announce that The Geek Embassy has a panel at Geek Girl Con in October. We are presenting, "Capes and Baskets: What Fairy Tales Can Help Teach Us about Superheroes." Rhonda and I will also be doing sister cosplays both at GGC and at local cons we are attending in September. Rhonda will be at Dragon Con Labor day weekend and Regina will be at Rose City Comic Con on September 10 and 11th. If you are attending, find us and say hello! Keep an eye out for our next show on the new YouTube Live platform (G+ Hangouts is retiring). Until next time, get your geek on! Regina & Rhonda

TGE Ep 8 - Summer Movie Podcast - July 2016
"Who's afraid of those ghosts?" For the July Summer movie episode, Rhonda and I take on the ever controversial Ghostbusters reboot. There was quite a bit of fuss about the casting of a female Ghostbusters team and the internet exploded after the first trailer dropped, making it the lowest ranked TV trailer in the site's history. We discuss the controversy and what we thought stood out in the movie (Holtzmann Forever!) and what didn't work as well (man candy). The all-star cast includes Melissa McCarthy, Leslie Jones, Kristin Wiig, and Kate McKinnon. Listen to hear us discuss the good and bad moments, what we enjoyed and could have done without.  We also have some excellent shows for your summer binge-watching in our streaming recommendations. Make sure to check out Crazy Ex-Girlfriends and Ash vs Evil Dead on Starz or via Amazon Prime subscription. To Discuss What other gender-swapped TV shows or movies do you remember? When does it work or not work and why? Until next time, get your geek on! Regina & Rhonda

TGE Ep 7 - July 2016 LIVE Podcast
Greetings, Geeks! We had a great hangout for July! New ambassadors Julie and Dante joined me and Rhonda to talk about how our experience and enjoyment of music has changed throughout our lives. We start with our first memories of seeking out music on our own, venture into junior high favorites, and first crushes. From there, we linger a bit too long perhaps in high school and how music first started to truly impact our identities. Looking at post-college time to the present brought us almost full circle in our musical biographies. (Yes, we did discuss the Hamilton soundtrack.) I was delighted to finally understand how the Q&A feature works and how to get the questions out to our viewers in real time. Many thanks to Micah and Amy for actively participating and commenting as we were talking. Your participation made it feel like a real hangout. If you are interested in participating in the hangouts like this, make sure to RSVP yes to the Google event post, that way you will get notifications sent with our questions during the hangout itself. We would love to talk to more of you while we are broadcasting but we know that isn't always an option. Luckily, we have a comments section for just that reason. Tell us in the comments about your musical biography. When and what music has had the most impact on your life? Until next time, get your geek on! Regina

TGE Ep 6 - Summer Movie Podcast - June 2016
Greetings,  Geeks! Rhonda and I saw two very different movies for June. Rhonda saw Central Intelligence and I saw Free State of Jones. We compare notes about the movies and how we go about choosing movies to see. Central Intelligence is a comedy starring Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart. It is a comedy of errors of sorts where two high school friends reconnect and shenanigans ensue. Free State of Jones is drama-based on real-life events that took place during the United States civil war. It stars Matthew McConaughey as Newton Knight who led a group of rebels to secede from the Confederacy. This episode I ask the pivotal question: Can you spoil a movie based on true events? Because I talk in detail about the plot of Free state of Jones. Rhonda admits that she is hugely into comedies right now and will likely see everything that might stand a chance to make her laugh. Bad Moms, anyone? We give some great streaming recommendations for your summer leisure tablet time. As always, we would love your comments on the show. Have you seen either Central Intelligence or Free State of Jones? Have suggestions for the movies we should see in July? We want to see them all. Until next time, get your geek on! Regina & Rhonda

TGE Ep 5 - June 2016 LIVE Hangout
For our June LIVE Hangout, we talked about villains: the ones you love to hate and hate to love. What makes them relate-able or hate-able? Rhonda, Mark, Isabela, and I had a great time chatting about our favorite villains from movies, TV, books, and video games. We also had a wildcard category which Rhonda won hands down. We start the discussion determining which villains we think are canon, ones that set the standard for the rest. Included are some of the greats of modern mythology: Darth Vader, Voldemort, and the Wicked Witch of the West. Listen and tell us what you think of our selections and thoughts about loving that bad guy. I'm looking at you, Spike. To open the show I talked a little bit about my book campaign on Inkshares for "Mothering: The Game." Make your way over there and pre-order your copy before July 15th so I can be in the running for the Nerdist contest. I read a short excerpt on the show from the chapter I will release when I hit 50 readers. Only 22 more to go at the time I am writing this! You know you want to read, "Achievement Unlocked: Daily Quests." We decided on two future themes for the show: music and cocktails and antiheroes. So on July 10th keep a look out for The Geek Embassy's LIVE Cocktail Party. Hopefully, our new ambassadors will be able to make it to that show. Let us know in the comments about your favorite villains or any recommendations for drinks we must make next month. Until next time, get your geek on! Regina, Rhonda, Mark, and Isabela

TGE Ep 4 - Summer Movie Podcast - May 2016
Movie - Captain America: Civil War This month, Rhonda and I discuss the latest Avengers movie, Captain America: Civil War. Although billed as a Captain America movie, it is an Avengers-themed extravaganza of action and internal conflict as our heroes navigate how they operate as a superhero crime-fighting team now exposed to public criticism. Listen to hear us discuss the characters, storytelling approaches, and action in this summer blockbuster. We also give some streaming recommendations to help fill your vacation downtime. Got a show or some movies you are binge watching this summer? Let us know in the comments. Keep an eye out for our summer movie series that we will continue monthly through August. Also, we are looking for ambassadors to produce content for The Geek Embassy. Interested? Read the details here. Until next time, get your geek on! TGE Ep 3 - Summer Movies Podcast - April 2016
Movie In the Theater For the summer months, Rhonda and I will be viewing and discussing blockbuster movies. To launch the series, we saw  The Huntsman: Winter's War which opened on April 22, 2016. A prequel/sequel to the 2012 Snow White and The Huntsman, this movie has huge star power, including Charlize Theron and Chris Hemsworth, and beautiful art direction. The positives end there. Listen to the episode and let us know what you think about our critique and some summer movies we should consider. Regina gives it:    ★  ★  ★ Rhonda gives it:  ★  ★ Streaming Recommendations In addition to the blockbusters, we will have recommendations for your streaming viewing. Summer gives us some time to catch up on our Netflix queue or to check out some independent movies. We will both give a streaming recommendation for you to check out at home or on the go. TGE Ep 2 - April 2016 LIVE Hangout
Here is our latest hangout as a podcast episode. Rhonda, Ryan, Isabela, and I had a great time chatting about the launch of The Geek Embassy, our adventures at Emerald City Comicon, the season finale of The Walking Dead, and some of the issues with Superman vs Batman. We also talked about what we thinks works and doesn't work in comic book movies and TV adaptations. Check out the episode and let us know what you think in the comments. We turned the Q&A feature on this time, something completely new for us, and are thankful for Amy who taught us how to use it. We will continue to make that feature available so you can talk to us while we hangout. Our hangouts for the next few months will continue on the second Sunday of the month at 2pm Pacific time. Mark your calendars for May 15, June 12, July 10, and August 14. If you have any topics you would like us to discuss, just let us know here or on Twitter @thegeekembassy. Rhonda and I are also starting up regular audio only episodes of the show in May so keep an eye out for those episodes as well. Until next time, get your geek on! Regina, Rhonda, Isabela, and Ryan

TGE Ep 1 - LIVE from Emerald City Comic Con
Here is our live episode from Emerald City Comic Con! Isabela and I traveled to Seattle, met up with the TMG Cast (Adrian and Andrew) and interview some fantastic artists, writers, and game designers. We talked with a nice cross-section of people this year, spanning many of the areas of interest for The Geek Embassy. We also got the chance to fly our banner for the first time (even if it was a little too new to lay flat). I asked lots of creators for advice they would give someone starting out in a creative field and thought I would highlight some of the best advice we were given. Artist, and game designer, Rezllen, talked about how important it is to push yourself into new territory as an artist. She said working on a deadline and in collaborative projects with other artists was key to her production. Cosplayer Dezi Desire reflected a similar point of view about the importance of a deadline and being in a creative group. I can also say having a creative partnership was key to my own success. It's often important to have that social responsibility to other Phil Foglio talked about how his book series, Girl Genius, was conceptualized for almost seven years before he started publishing it. He describes how important it is to plan your story and have many ideas about main plot points together before you start publishing. I am sure that's a bit daunting for new creators to think about but what I appreciate from this bit of wisdom is how important planning is. If you jump into a project guns ablaze, but without some concept of time and longevity, you might run out of steam or ideas. If your content timeline lags, your readers will go elsewhere. Don't let planning get in the way of you starting a new project but keep in mind the scope of the project you are working on. Recording a live episode is a challenging and exciting endeavor. We are thankful to the artists, illustrators, and writers who took the time to talk with us. If you haven't had the chance, make the trip to Seattle for ECCC. You won't be disappointed! Be sure to ask Isabela about buying ALL THE THINGS on Sunday, too. Until next time, get your geek on! Regina
