TGE EP 81 — Talks: Sexual Identities
This was recorded June 11, 2020, as part of a series of Pride Month virtual panels hosted by Awesome Con and Rose City Comic Con, part of LeftField Media.
The Geek Embassy Talks: Sexual Identities
Have you heard terms for sexual identity and wondered what they’ve meant? Do you have questions about what it means to be ace, bi, or pan? Gay or queer? A diverse panel of writers and podcasters from The Geek Embassy want to help you understand the ever-changing and growing landscape of sexual identities. We will share definitions and discuss how the representation of sexual identities has grown over time with some of our favorite geeky passions: Comic books, video games, movies, television shows, etc. This interactive panel will field questions from participants. Ft. Regina McMenomy, Ph.D., Isabela Oliveira, Dante Buccieri, and Joanna Milius
TGE EP 80 — Watches: Quaran-Times
Oh my goodness, it's real people!
TGE Watches is back with a new episode after eight weeks in quarantine! This month, we're getting in the wayback machine as Dante, Regina, and Izzie explore what we've been rewatching. Dante has completed a complete rewatch of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and all 13 Star Trek movies. Izzie's started her eight-billionth rewatch of Leverage, and Regina has completed her first rewatch of Veronica Mars in a very long time. Join us for an hour of mostly lighthearted banter and at least a few minutes of Dante having strong feelings about Star Trek V: The Final Frontier.
Stay safe and wear your damn masks!
TGE EP 79 — Watches: and the Fantabulous Quarantining of One Coronavirus
Greetings and salutations, dear listeners!
I hope you’re all doing as well as you can in this new and…. well... interesting? era of coronavirus. The Geek Embassy is lucky that our ambassadors have been recording remotely for years and we’re happy that in a fairly bleak time we can still create content for you.
This month is a mix of old and new as Dante, Regina, and Isabela explore four exciting properties: Locke & Key (Netflix), Good Omens (Amazon Prime), Good Girls (NBC), and Birds of Prey and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn (Warner Bros). Join us for an hour of lighthearted banter and at least 10 minutes of Dante having strong feelings about Birds of Prey.
Stay safe and wash your hands! Join us next month as we see how the gang is doing after a month of social distancing with only Netflix to comfort us.
TGE EP 78 — Watches: The Baby Yoda Hour
.We're back in the lab again with a new episode of TGE Watches and debuting a new format for 2020! This month, Dante, Regina, Isabela, and Stephen cover two of the hottest streaming shows right now: The Mandalorian from Disney+ and The Witcher from Netflix. In our roundup, we also cover the latest seasons of Netflix's The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina and NBC's The Good Place. Finally, we look forward to the imminent debuts of Picard on CBS All Access and Locke & Key on Netflix. Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) is... a movie that's coming out in February. Dante has feelings about it. They're not great.

TGE Ep 71 - Watches: Avengers Endgame
We discuss the character arcs, the fate of some of our favorite characters, moments we loved, and moments we hated. The finale to this epic cinematic journey that started 10 years ago left many of us in tears. Endgame, indeed, delivered on the emotional goods.

TGE Ep 59 – Watches: Deadpool 2
Deadpool 2
Deadpool, our lovable merc with a mouth, joins the X-Men on a trainee basis and becomes the unwitting and unwilling guardian of Firefist, a young pyrokinetic mutant, as he is relentlessly pursued by the time-traveling cyborg soldier named Cable.
Our DIscussion
To be honest, we didn't think we would have much to say about this continuation of the Deadpool story. It is a pretty straightforward sequel that plays on many of the same jokes we saw on the first one. We talk about the evolution of Deadpool's character and story and whether or not Vanessa was fridged.

TGE Ep 56 – Reads: Becky Chambers' "The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet"
Welcome to The Geek Embassy Reads! In this episode, we discuss Becky Chambers' novel, "The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet." *
Our Discussion
This book was quite the divisive read for our ambassadors. Two of us loved it, two of us hated it, and one was in the middle. We wrestle a bit with the discussion, bouncing back and forth between each outlook. Although we are divided about the book, everyone could at least come up with a few positives for the characters, story, and universe Chambers created.

Official Marvel's Runaways Description
There are times when pretty much every teenager thinks his or her parents are evil -- but what if it was actually true? That's the situation six Los Angeles teenagers find themselves in when they stumble upon a terrible secret and realize that their parents have been lying to them for their entire lives. The offspring begin an investigation to try to figure out what their guardians are after, while the adults wonder if their kids are hiding secrets of their own. The unlikely crew of teens bands together — led by the de facto leader and primary strategist Alex Wilder — to stop their parents before it is too late.

TGE Ep 43 – Halloween Special: A Dramatic Reading of H. P. Lovecraft
A bit of a departure this week from my usual ramblings, in celebration of my favorite holiday: All Hallow's Eve. Instead of a written piece, The Geek Embassy has granted me the opportunity to present a dramatic reading of a piece penned by one of the great masters of modern ethereal horror: H. P. Lovecraft, and his short story, The Outsider.
I will be the first to express bias towards this tale, as it imitates the voice of another famed horror writer, Edgar Allan Poe, a personal favorite of mine. And it is true, Lovecraft is the mind behind Cthulhu, one of the most recognizable icons in popular contemporary culture. But just as Poe penned more than The Raven and The Tell-Tale Heart, so too did Lovecraft offer more than tales of Innismouth and the brood of Yog Sothoth.
So today, tonight, this very hour, The Geek Embassy presents a tale of a singular being, isolated in a far-away tower in a far-off land. A being thirsty for discovery, for freedom and exploration, who may yet find themselves drowning...

TGE Ep 38 – TGE Geeks Out Over Motor Crush!
When I went through the list of books available for interview, Motor Crush raced to the top because the premise seemed so unique and inherently feminist. Domino Swift is a woman of color competing in the dangerous world of moto racing. She lives her life perched between the official racing world, and dangerous street racing where she competes for the hot pink engine boosting substance, "Crush." Torn between two worlds that demand every ounce of her spirit, she battles her own demons and those out to get her. My jaw dropped at the end of the first volume and I can't wait to see what comes next.
This is a live recording and unfortunately, I wasn't able to get a video to go with it. Check it out and order your own copy of Motor Crush Volume 1 now!

TGE Ep 37 – Plays: Pathfinder – Finale! Coups & Contracts
TGE Ep 36 - Watches: Dunkirk
Official Description
Three different perspectives with overlapping time periods: one week on land, one day at sea, and one hour in the air, create a non-linear narrative.
Introductory text at the start of the movie says that in 1940, after the invasion of France, hundreds of thousands of Allied soldiers had retreated to Dunkirk. As German forces close in, they await evacuation in a seemingly hopeless situation.
Our Analysis
Our opinions differed greatly in pretty much every aspect of the film. Mark shares his disappointment that the setting didn't look truer to the actual beaches during the war. (See photos below for comparison.) Ryan and I both appreciated the artistic nature of the movie overall and how it was surprisingly deep. I will heartily admit it is hard to follow at the start, especially if you don't know the details of the battle particularly well. Watch and listen to hear our thoughtful analysis.
