I first met Alex when we did a dual podcast together, #53 - Depression and Anxiety in your early 20's, over 18 months ago. This man has the unique skill of making you feel completely calm whilst speaking with him. The perspective on life that you have off the back of your conversations with him is quite incredible.  Alex has written, AND PUBLISHED, his book - 'Search for Clarity' - during the COVID19 lockdown.

This guy is epic and it was a real pleasure to get him on the show once more!!

#108 - The Male Mental Health Fallout - An Internal Pandemic - Arby Keheli, Strength and Conditioning Coach and Close Friend

I have known Arby for a long time now. He was one of the founding team members at F45 Oxford Circus when we opened back in July 2018.  I have watched him grow year on year into one of the most impressive blokes I know.  He is kind, extremely intelligent and a freak of nature in a training sense.

When he reached out to me about an incident that occurred to one of his friends I was humbled.  He wanted to use The Inspiration Space to talk about how he was feeling and how he wanted to talk about an issue that would help others.

'Mental Health' or 'Psychological Wellbeing', as I like to refer to it, is at the core of what this platform is all about. enjoy. This one is touching.

Big love to this guy as he moves on from working at F45 Oxford Circus and onto his next step at Loughborough University.

#107 - "What a Flanker" - James Haskell, Former Professional Rugby Player, Author, DJ and All Around Character

This was a MEGA episode for me. James Haskell was one of the original people I had on my list of individuals I wanted to interview on The Inspiration Space.  It was epic to have him on the show and I loved every minute!

James Haskell is one of the best know Rugby players and sports people in the UK. Having played a large number of times for his country as well as playing around the world, James is known as much for his ability on the field as his personality off it.

Along side these he spends a large amount of his time speaking on a number of topics from straight after dinner work, to serious motivation and leadership. He is also extremely comfortable hosting and being an auctioneer for any event.

James also has a smash hit podcast called house of Rugby which averages around 260k listeners per weekly episode.

Having appeared on shows such as I’m a celeb, The chase, A league of their own, question of sport, fighting talk and various other mainstream shows. James has transcended just being a rugby player.

#104 - The Beauty of Fitness - Riding Solo!

#104 - The Beauty of Fitness - Riding Solo!

Today I talk about some revelations surrounding why fitness can be such a powerful vehicle in our lives.

This whole week I’ve seen reminders of what fitness can do for people. It has been a reminder of why I love it.  For someone that trains as much as I do I should be absolutely ripped.  I’m not in bad shape but I’m not an absolute monster. I return to fitness time and time again because I adore everything that comes with it.

My fitness journey has taught me so much about myself.  It has challenged me in so many ways it’s ridiculous.  It continues to do that on a daily basis.

I met Connor nearly 3 years ago whilst doing my F45 induction. We have remained in contact ever since and formed a great relationship based around the passion of fitness and the role it should play within people's lives. On this podcast we talk about a whole host of things but what really stuck out to me was how your identity is so key to long term happiness and enjoyment of the fitness process. We touch a little bit on the my mental health journey, how the podcast begun and how I got into F45 franchising.

#99 - Sex, Relationships and Single Life in Quarantine with Catriona Boffard, Clinical Sexologist and Relationship Psychotherapist

This was an fantastic episode.  In a very different format to anything I've ever done before on the podcast.  This was was actually a ZOOM recording that I put together for our community at F45 Soho and Oxford Circus.  More than ever, as we are in quarantine, the topic of single life and relationships is extremely relevant to all as everything is heightened.  As ever her perspective on how your mental health links in with everything in regard to your relationship and sex life is fascinating. A must listen.

#93 - The Freedom from Being Fearless - Charles Esten, Nashville Star, Performer, Actor, Comedian and My Godfather

#93 - The Freedom from Being Fearless - Charles Esten, Nashville Star, Performer, Actor, Comedian and My Godfather

I had the pleasure of sitting with actor, comedian and performer Charles Esten recently.  Most notorious for his role in Nashville as Deacon Claybourne. This was extra special for me as Charles, or Chip as I better know him, is my godfather and somebody I look up to in many ways. He Is one of the most charismatic yet humble people I've had the pleasure of meeting. I always jump at the opportunity to spend time with him when I can and this was a wonderful experience for me to record this episode.

Chip started his amazing career in LA before moving to London to work for my dad in his Westend show 'The Buddy Holly Story'. From there Chip has had an immense journey of ups and downs. His journey lead him to land a main role in hit series Nashville and he has just finished his first solo UK tour, finishing at none other than the Royal Albert Hall.

This man is my godfather, an abnormally talented individual but more than anything he is one of the most incredible and intelligent men I've ever spoken to. I loved this episode more than you can imagine and it will be an hour I will never forget.

Here are a few things we spoke about:

- Chip's early career. From working in LA to moving to London.

- How he had to jump at his opportunities and making a last impact in those moments.

- Hearing the story of how Chip's relationship with his magnificent wife Patty came a reality. A lovely story.

- How being present is just so important to him.

- Prioritisation is key to living a fulfilled life.

- How to steer towards the fear and how that can make you powerful.

- 'We are stronger than we think'. Hearing about the adversity that Chip's family has been through with their youngest Addie. How the family came together and came out on top... TOGETHER.

- Chip's toolbox analogy. Beautiful.

- Knowing where you want to go in life is great but building and nurturing your foundations is what really matters.  You think some things matter in life but it's in moments of adversity that you realise they don't. It's the foundations that really matter when it comes down to it.

- The charity work that Chip does for Leukaemia.  The Light The Night Walk is The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's evening walk and fundraising event to pay tribute and bring hope to people battling cancer. Thousands of participants raise funds for vital research and patient services and on these special nights they carry illuminated lanterns in support of those who have survived, those battling and those who have lost their fight with cancer. The link is below to see the work Chip is helping with for that cause.

#92 - The Oral Healthcare Revolution - Hamish Khayat and Brittany Stewart, Co-founders of BURST Oral Care

#92 - The Oral Healthcare Revolution - Hamish Khayat and Brittany Stewart, Co-founders of BURST Oral Care

Burst Oral Care, co-founded in August 2017 by Hamish Khayat and Brittany Stewart, has revolutionized the $40 billion oral care industry by providing consumers with high-quality dental products at an accessible price through its direct ship subscription business model.

Together both Hamish, who has recently been voted a Forbes 30 under 30, and Brittany, who I was told by Hamish has won more awards than she knows what to do with, have taken BURST to incredible height in the space of only two years.  As the company continues to grow it was a real honour for me to sit down and talk to them both to hear the company's story.

Their amazing relationship as co-founders is obvious and I was very grateful for their time. Below is a few of the topics we covered.  It was a seriously enjoyable episode so get stuck in!!

- Some of the early challenges, few early successes, and a few aha moments that happened with the business in the early days.

- Why the US was the best place to start the oral care subscription model.

- Brittany’s ‘success soup’ - an expression I will forever use. Brittany explains how things started to really take shape for Burst and the ingredients that go into that success soup....

- 99% of the time Hamish and Brittany have the same thoughts on a matter but the 1% of time they don’t and they have it out!

- The are both openly confrontational which I find interesting. They always come 'to win the argument.'

- They have worked hard to create a culture where opinion is important but the justification of that opinion is even more important.

- Brittany’s thoughts on servant leadership.

- Having an open and honest dialogue is key to a successful cofounder relationship.

- What their number 1 piece of advice would be to going out and finding a co-founbder for your business.

- How Burst have scaled up and how they plan to scale up further if the the opportunity comes about.

- They each tell me their favourite book / resource that has helped shape their approach to life and business.

Enjoy this episode with Hamish and Brittany... it's a screamer!

#91 - The Power of Community and Exercise - Mark White, Founder of Your Town Active and Red Bull Social Entrepreneur

#91 - The Power of Community and Exercise - Mark White, Founder of Your Town Active and Red Bull Social Entrepreneur

Your Town was planted when the Founder, Mark White, sent himself an email in 2011 with an idea for a running event that started and finished in Hoddesdon town centre. Three years on, a chance meeting in April 2014 brought ‘Give Your Town The Run Around’ to life, and following a steep learning curve, our first event happened just 5 months later in September 2014.

A year later in October 2015, after putting on two more successful events, the company decided to have a permanent presence in town and invested in our first Street Office. And so… Your Town was born!

Fast forward a few years and Your Town pursued their passion for building and celebrating community in a diverse range of ways. In December 2015, they launched Your Town Clubs, with free weekly clubs for local runners and walkers. In October 2016 they piloted our first “Get-Togethers” simultaneously across three Hertfordshire towns with a run, walk and bike ride for up to 100 participants in each. During the summer 2017, they kicked off “Give Your School the Run Around” programme, which included 10 local primary schools in activities to raise awareness of health, wellbeing and community, culminating in a grand finale event hosted by a local secondary school.

More than most people I get to see the power of what exercise can do to a community. Mark has a passion for it too and it was amazing to see. It was great to meet him and I am so glad he got the chance to be a part of the Redbull Ampahiko Academy. On that note going up and seeing what the Redbull Amaphiko Academy was all about was pretty sensational!! For those that don't know what it is the Red Bull Amaphiko is a programme to help Social Entrepreneurs create innovative and sustainable change in their communities.  This episode is the last part of a 3 part series I recorded. I also interviewed two other great guys with two other great business.   The link for Your Town is below here.https://www.yourtown.community

#90 - Healthy People, Healthy Planet - Sean Morrison, Co-founder of Pulsitos and Social Entrepre

The environmental issues we are faced with today are quite shocking. I in the past have been quite oblivious / ignorant towards them. However over the past 18 months I have had my eyes opened by certain people around me. Doing my research for Sean Morrison, the cofounder of Pulsitos, gave me another opportunity to learn more around particularly the issues surrounding plastic pollution and other environmental issues.

Pulsitos are a healthy snack that leads to healthy people and a healthy environment. Their product is good for the environment and it’s packaging does nothing to harm it. With 8 billion tonnes of plastic polluting our oceans every year... something has to be done. If more companies operated line Pulsitos then the world would be a better place.

This was a great episode to record as I got on really well with Sean. A really switched on man who really cares about what he is doing. Along with his wife I believe they will do some amazing things with Pulsitos!

#88 - Conversing with a British Legend - Sir Bob Scott, International Ambassador and Outright Character

#88 - Conversing with a British Legend - Sir Bob Scott, International Ambassador and Outright Character

Sir Bob Scott is a man deeply respected within the fabric of the United Kingdom.  His involvement in moving the Theatre Industry forward in this country is unarguable. Not only that but his involvement in obtaining the Common Wealth Games to the City of Manchester in 2002 was crucial, as well as this he led Liverpool’s successful Bid to become the European Capital of Culture in 2008.

The one thing that sprung out to me when interviewing Bob was that he quite simply never settled for one career path. He moved onto whatevwe excited him most at the time. His undeniable characteristic of being curious led him into a tonne of different areas that have had an extremely positive impact.  His persuasive tendencies provided him with sensational results in the areas he went into and for that this country should be ever so thankful. All of which resulted in his knighthood awarded in 1994.

This is slightly different to many episodes I have done due to the age and experience of Sir Bob.  However that should be viewed as a positive as we are extremely lucky to have been gifted with an hour of this man's life.  He is a truly fantastic man and I will always cherish the hour I got to spend with him.

#86 - A Leadership Masterclass - Major Russell Lewis MC, Inspirational Speaker on Leadership and Author of 'Company Commander'

#86 - A Leadership Masterclass - Major Russell Lewis MC, Inspirational Speaker on Leadership and Author of 'Company Commander'

Major Russell Lewis MC is one of the most incredible men I've ever had the pleasure to speak to.  Throughout his Army career he spent 20 years as an Officer in the Parachute Regiment and served in a variety of challenging theatres including Northern Ireland, Kosovo and Iraq. In 2009 he was awarded a Military Cross for leadership and gallantry in Afghanistan.  His accounts of this 6 month tour in Afghanistan, where he was the Company Commander, were published in his book 'Company Commander'. A phenomenal read.

Russell currently delivers leadership and coaching training to multi national corporations and charitable organisations. He is also a motivational speaker who has addressed the US Naval Academy, Boston College, Greater Manchester Police and the European Nuclear Safety Agency. As well as being a defence commentator for Sky News.

What I love about Russell is his passion for the fact that the leadership qualities he has developed in the army are transferable into any environment.  And most importantly... these skills can be learnt.

Here are some of the topics we covered in our chat:

- Why the Army was the only route Russell every wanted to take.

⁃ Russell makes clear that leadership qualities can be learnt and how.

⁃ How the army accelerated his leadership skills.

⁃ Responding and reacting to pressure and set backs is one of the biggest areas of leadership. He explains how this happens in any environment and talks about the mindset to get into when that happens.

⁃ ‘Leadership is never tested on a good day.’ Russell talks us through a bad day in Afghanistan and how he reacted during the most difficult day off his leadership career.

⁃ Neurolinguistic VIsualization Techniques.

- Emotional energy as a leader. Russell talks about the importance of using passion to get the most out of the people you are leading.  However this does have an adverse affect on you as a leader if you do not take time to recoup your energy levels.

⁃ Russell talks us through some of the techniques he uses when working with organisations or individual’s to improve their approach to leadership.

- Russell talks us through the incredible appreciation and respect he had for all of his soldiers.

- How being kind to himself was the key to getting his enthusiasm and passion for life back.  There Is nothing wrong doing whatever you need/want to do to get back to where you are mentally happy.

- I ask Russell a key life lesson he has learnt over the years.

#85 - Two Nights in Vegas

After returning from the F45 World Conference in Vegas, with a heavy...heavy hangover, there were a few things that I realised that were worth talking about off the back of it!

1. How big this fitness concept is.

2. How I'm adamant to stay humble and hungry!

3. How hard work is EVERYTHING if you want to be a success.

4. How listening to some talented and intelligent franchisees my mindset  has changed towards different areas of life and the business.

5. How I feel this is the end of Chapter 1 on this F45 journey and how excited I am to step into Chapter 2.

#83 - What I Wish I'd Been Told as an Intern

#83 - What I Wish I'd Been Told as an Intern

When I was an intern I felt so unwanted. I was well aware that I was an added stress. My mindset was that I just wanted to get stuck in and help as much as I could. Understandably I couldn't just step in and take big projects on with little to no experience. However I wish I had been treated with a great deal of honesty and transparency, this is something that ran over into my first few jobs too. So 10 years on I had the privilege of having my first ever intern come down. I realised how busy the week was going to be but I was determined to treat him with respect, honesty and transparency. I wasn't going to simply get him to run for coffees and do the towels. I mean he did do those things but I also took 1-2 hours a day to talk to him about the industry we were in, the different areas of the business we have to consider and also how we run the business day in day out. More than anything I wanted to share some honest messages that I wish I'd been told at that age. In no way was I being condescending and claiming I had all the answers... if you know me you will know that is not my way. But I did have some things I wanted to pass on to him from my own experiences.
1. We don’t have it all figured out. Those that claim they do are ones who will damage you long term.
2. There is not one method to achieve a task. Don't be afraid to think outside the box and ask 'why' to conventional methods.
3. Communication skills are invaluable. Verbal and non verbal. If you nurture these skills opportunities will open up in front of you.
4. Listen, smile and ask questions. Care about people.
5. Life is not linear. Expect failure and don’t think that there is going be one clear route.
Enjoy guys and give this podcast a 5* rating and review.

#79 - Double Crossed - Brian Wood, Military Cross, Best Selling Author and Public Speaker

#79 - Double Crossed - Brian Wood, Military Cross, Best Selling Author and Public Speaker

Brian Wood MC, former Colour Sergeant, Princess of Wales’s Royal Regiment.

Brian Wood was awarded the Military Cross, one of Britain’s highest awards for gallantry in combat, by Her Majesty The Queen II, following his courageous leadership under enemy fire in Iraq.

In the heat of a lethal close quarters battle, fighting outnumbered, he seized the initiative, taking a split-second decision to lead his men into the teeth of enemy fire in the first bayonet charge by British soldiers in 25 years.

Leading from the front, he put his own life in great danger. Under his command, Brian’s men defeated the enemy without sustaining any serious casualties themselves. Their actions that day saved many other soldiers’ lives.

During a 16 year military career, Brian led British troops across the full spectrum of battle from training to fighting; from operations in the Balkans to high intensity combat in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Throughout his Army career he had to make life-or-death decisions, frequently in hazardous battle situations, usually under great pressure and often against the clock. There is no greater leadership challenge than motivating men to put their lives on the line. To succeed they have to know that you are a meticulous and competent planner and commander who can be trusted with their lives.

Brian’s military experience has equipped him to deliver highly inspirational and compelling sessions, sharing his experiences from the battlefield and suggesting ways that the lessons he has learnt can be applied in the corporate world.

#77 - CBD OIL! How Good Is It? - George Kruis and Dom Day, Professional Rugby Legends and Co-Founders of FourFive CBD

CBD oil seems to have come from nowhere.  Naturally there is a stigma around it as it is extracted from the cannabis plan.  A lot of people initially view it as a something that gets you high and sloppy rather than something that can benefit you in ways that positively support a busy and stressful day to day work life.

Dom Day has been playing professional rugby for 14 years with over 250 top flight games to his name. Starting in Wales, his career took him to England, Japan, Australia and he now plays for English Premiership club Saracens. Dom was also a key part of the Wales national side throughout the 2015/16 season, including playing in the 2015 World cup.

George Kruis has been playing professional rugby for 10 years and is a seasoned international and British Lion. He has over 150 appearances for Saracens winning 2 European titles and 3 Premiership trophies.

Between them they have 20 years experience in professional sport and have been under the surgeon's knife 12 times. They have played and trained through pain and injury more often than they would have liked.

They've used cbd as part of their daily routine during their rugby careers. It helps them maintain a healthy lifestyle throughout the highs and lows of professional sport.

Now they want to spread the word about the benefits of cbd, and how as founders of fourfive, they are committed to offering the highest grade cbd products available, specifically designed to help you maintain an active lifestyle.

#76 - From Prison to Purpose - Michael Maisey, Actor, Author, Business Coach and Awesome Bloke!

Michael Maisey grew up during the late nineties on the Ivy Bridge Estate in Isleworth, west London. Abandoned by his father and abused by his uncle, scared and wanting to feel as if he belonged, he fell in with a local gang. He started drinking, taking drugs and shoplifting. By the time he was fifteen he was an armed robber. When a poorly planned raid on his local corner shop went wrong, he was sent to the infamous Feltham Young Offenders Institute. Michael's first stint in Feltham left him hardened. Assigned to the Quail Wing, home to the institute's most violent and dangerous offenders, he soon established his place in the system. Over the next five years, Michael became one of London's most wanted armed robbers. In and out of prison, he was accused of drug-dealing, assault and even attempted murder. Totally dependent on drugs and alcohol, he was subjected to a controversial detox programme which ended in a failed suicide attempt. At rock bottom, he began attending AA meetings. The story doesn’t end here!! His new book ‘Young Offender’ comes out on the 11th of July and will be an unbelievable read. This episode is awesome guys - get stuck in!

#73 - Imposter Syndrome! Own Your Success! - Dr Vanessa Moulton, Psychologist and Founder of the Mindflex Group

#73 - Imposter Syndrome! Own Your Success! - Dr Vanessa Moulton, Psychologist and Founder of the Mindflex Group

What is ‘Imposter Syndrome’? Impostor Syndrome is characterized by the conviction that you don't deserve your success. It is the feeling that you're not as intelligent, creative or talented as other people seem to believe you are. It is the suspicion that your achievements are down to luck, good timing or just being in the right place at the right time. And it is accompanied by the fear that, one day, you'll be exposed as a fraud.

On this episode I have back on the show Dr Vanessa Moulton.  I spoke to Vanessa briefly about this topic after we stopped recording our last episode and I was really eager to get her back on to talk about this.  I have struggled with imposter syndrome that last two years specifically and was really excited to hear the views and  knowledge of somebody who deals with seeing it in people everyday.

What we spoke about in this fascinating episode:

  • What is imposter syndrome.
  • The gender difference when it comes to imposter syndrome.
  • How imposter syndrome can hinder your full potential.
  • The importance of flexibility of thought in this regard.
  • How can you work on it?
  • My personal mindset when it comes dealing with my own ‘Imposter Syndrome’
  • How we create rules in our own mind and how we must define our own meaning of success.
  • How validation and approval from external sources, i.e social media, can be detrimental.

Meditation.  What is it? How can benefit us and how can we easily execute it?  In a day and age when there is so much going on around us it is seriously easy to be become unfocused, stressed, anxious or even depressed.  By taking as little as 10 minutes a day meditating you can streamline your mind.  However like all good things it takes practice and dedication to get the most out of it.  Will talks us through why we should be meditating, how it can benefit us and which world class achievers have included in their daily routines.

#66 - Passion and Perseverance - Dr Vanessa Moulton, Psychologist and Founder of The Mindflex Group

#66 - Passion and Perseverance - Dr Vanessa Moulton, Psychologist and Founder of The Mindflex Group

The continuum of ‘Psychology Wellbeing’ spoken about with Dr Vanessa Moulton is a conversation that has changed my thinking around mental health. Why should we simply just focus on the mental ill health end of the spectrum? We should also be focusing on all the areas of our psychological fitness at the top end of the spectrum and how we can optimise our mind at all time. You don’t stop at the gym when your body is getting into good knick? Think about that.

Vanessa is a psychologist that has worked in some incredible environments. Being heavily involved with help for Heroes being just one of them. The work she does with organisations, groups of people and on a one on one basis is amazing!

Check out some of the things we spoke about!!

* Vanessa’s professional background that lead her from a career in marketing to working with war veterans.
* ‘Psychological Fitness’, or should I say ‘Psychological Wellbeing’ what this means and how this area has grown in the public eye in the last 20 years?
* The continuum of ‘Psychological Wellbeing’ - Psychological Fitness / Psychological Ill Health.
* Flexibility of thought and action. The power that can be created when you unleash the fact that there is always another way. There is no one size fits all.
* How to make people realise that their self made ‘rules’ may NOT be working for them anymore.
* How flexibility of thought and action can help you be on the RIGHT end of the Psychological well being spectrum.
* Other psychological fitness factors.
* Downtime - why it is SO important, what it is and how it is subjective to the individual.
* Finding balance across the psychological fitness factors and how it takes a years to form the right formula for you?
* Sleep - why it is just everything to us!
* Work and purpose - how when we achieve in these areas we open ourselves up to more opportunity and achievements.
* Success - How the definition of success can change. Just because you sat yourself a specific idea of success when you are 20 DOESN’T mean that should always be your idea of success.
* Vanessa talks about one her heroes - He may be coming on the show soon too!!
* How Millennials are more open minded and how senior executives tend to be more fixed. Vanessa talks about the work she does with organisations in order to make them more conscious of psychology in the workplace. It is a huge performance indicator in the workplace.
* Vanessa talks to us about ‘The Sisterhood’ - when it started, what it means and what they have done.
* GRIT - Passion and perseverance. How and why it is so important to keep growing and setting yourself challenges. (1 hour 11 minutes).
* Who Vanessa’s biggest influences are. One of which has been on the show, Emma Sayle CEO of Killing Kittens.
* A few life lessons that Vanessa has learnt. The 30’s is when it all becomes clearer - BE PATIENT!
