The Circuit

On this episode of The Circuit, we have even more guest hosts. Promotions Manager Lauren Lowry, and Photos editor Darcy Leber, cover Saint Patrick's day all around SHS and Indy. This episode starts off with a truly insightful interview with an Indy Irish Fest representative and Irish historian, Peter Elliott. Then, in the Cards in the café segment, we asked students about their celebrations of the holiday. The last segment is with English teacher and Anchor adviser, Sam Hanley, about his Irish family history.

From coaches, to cheerleaders and even a few cards in the cafe, this episode has an array of people from SHS talking about school spirit, again. First we headed to the cafeteria and asked a revised version of our last question. The last question was about how many basketball games they had been to, in this episode we asked about football attendance. In the last episode, we started our coverage of how school spirit has been changing. In this episode we go even further with a follow up interview with the head football coach Alex Bettag, and a new point of view from a few of our cheer team members. 

In this episode of The Circuit we explored how SHS's school spirit has changed. We made it around many parts of the school, from asking about sporting event attendance in the cafeteria, to chatting with some key members of the booster club and student section. The end the episode is an inside scoop from the man, the myth, the legend, Mike Klopfenstein. One of the SHS P.A. announcers and The Journal's adviser. And, the cherry on top of it all, our guest hosts. Business manager Noah Daniel and photos editor Joe Veen spearheaded this episode and brought a unique point of view to each of the interviews. 

In this episode we talk to a few SHS staff members that are a part of the support system for students here. They talk about grief, how they deal with different situations of loss, the procedures put in place by our district and more. Then, on theme with the episode, Journal staffers Lauren Lowry and Grace Elder talk about their experiences writing tributes.

The Journal is feeling the holiday spirit throughout all of our sections, so it's only fair The Circuit gets in on the fun too. You'll hear about hot items on some student's Christmas lists, and then about another hot item in the assistant principal world. Amy Boone, the associate principal here at SHS recently won assistant principal of the year for the entire state of Indiana. We asked her about what goes into her job, from dealing with community grief to all her favorite things about her job. Lastly, a reflection on the NSPA/JEA fall national convention in St. Louis. And, with some guests from the Anchor. 

In this episode you'll get some insight into the minds of the cast of the musical and what their initial reactions were to being assigned their roles. And, they give some context for all the character dynamics one can watch if they see the show. Then, an exuberant group interview with The Journal's 'top 3'. Who are also known and the Editor-in-chief and managing editors. They talk about their time on staff before these positions, their expectations for the year, how they are changing systems and more. 

Many places around SHS have poor cell service, but we're in classes learning, right? In the lunch room it's a bit more frustrating. You'll get to hear a diverse group of answers on how that makes students feel. Along with Cards in the Café, there is also a quick interview with a few members of the SHS football team about their group, it's dynamic, and just a quick run down on how they are feeling about this season. Last up is a giggly interview with Maria Bujan, a foreign exchange student from Spain that is on The Journal this year, and her editor Ayslin Bowman.

An up-coming vote could change all of Perry Township. Our superintendent, Mr. Mapes talks about the unintended negative consequences that could play out if this referendum does not pass. And, on a more light-hearted note, senior Audra Barclay, and sophomore Natalie Walker interview Francesca Zappia about being an author. From her school-work balance, to what she has learned about herself through writing, it's all covered here. Plus this is our first episode with transition music!

From bitter to sweet. Mr. Wright talks about his history with hosting foreign exchange students and specifically our centerfold focus, Anton. Then, sweet with the top three March Madness bracket advancement predictors on The Journal, just in time for the Sweet Sixteen games.
