The Joy of Media Podcast follows the story of Alex White, a young South African radio presenter, voice-over artist and YouTuber, as he sets out to discover the incredible achievements of our youth.

In the form of weekly episodes, the podcast tells the story of how Alex got involved in media and includes interviews with South Africa's inspirational youth. It also features interviews with successful and inspirational people. T

The Joy of Media Podcast has been live for 3 months and the response that we have gotten has already been incredible. We have already covered 8 incredible stories, featuring young achievers and successful innovators, entrepreneurs and media heavyweights. There has been no shortage of inspiration and motivation in our weekly interview based episodes, released every Friday at 6PM.

For the second last episode of the season, the incredible stories continue with the story of Faine Pearl Loubser. Faine is an established content creator and social media influencer from Cape Town. A brilliant photographer and videographer, she has over 20 thousand followers on Instagram, and has posted almost 600 images. Faine describes herself as a conservationist, film-maker and free-diver. She enjoys time exploring the depths of the oceans around the Western Cape, discovering the natural beauty that lies just off the coast, and she has been working on ways to make sure it stays that way.

In the ninth episode of season one, of the Joy of Media Podcast, Alex talks to Faine about how she got into content creation, what it is like to be a brand ambassador for GoPro and other companies, and what her involvement is with the ocean conservation brand,

Faine has been involved in many incredible projects and has a passion for content and its creation. She shares inspiration and motivation that can be taken by anyone who wants to get involved in this field. We're halfway through the season! In the fifth episode of the Joy of Media Podcast, Alex chats to Skye Meaker, a 17-year-old wildlife photographer from South Africa, who was named Young Wildlife Photographer of the Year in 2018, for the U17 category. The competition features entries from all around the world and Skye's achievement lead to him being a speaker at the recent World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, where he presented alongside Dr Jane Goodall (one of his idols). He also got to chat to Sir David Attenborough. Skye's photographic journey has taken him all over Africa and other parts of the world to tell nature's stories through his lens. As Skye says, "he brings the wonder of nature to the people." Can you believe that we are almost halfway through the season? In episode 4 of the Joy of Media Podcast, Alex talks about how he got into media and discusses RX Radio, a radio station for the patients, parents and health workers at the Red Cross War Memorial Children's Hospital.

Alex talks about how important it is for the youth to be heard and how RX Radio provides a platform for communication in the hospital. He shares personal experiences from hosting the bi-weekly, #RXTop20 for two years and what he loves most about RX Radio.

In our third episode of the season Alex dives deep into the future of media in South Africa and talks TV, streaming and connected content with Richard Boorman, the Head of Communications for Multichoice Connected Video which manages Showmax and DStv Now. They discuss the future of streaming on the African continent and just how Showmax plans to innovate.

Richard shares his insight from working in the field of media, and explains how Showmax is set to become a key player in the South African streaming market, while not necessarily aiming to compete directly with international brands like Netflix. Showmax has its own local shows and originals that can be found no where else and are making a big impact on the viewing trends of consumers.

Also in the episode, Alex gets advice from Richard on how best to prepare for a life in media. If you are interested in becoming an actor, producer, director, writer or virtually anything in-between, then Richard has some uplifting advice for you! Passion and vision go a long way in the industry.

The podcast premier features an introduction to the podcast and an overview of Alex's experiences in media. It includes an interview with radio and media heavyweight, Ryan O'Connor. The episode aims to set the tone for the rest of the podcast season to come, with motivation and advice for youth who want to get involved in media. This is the first of ten episodes being released online and through multiple, popular podcast directories. Episodes will be released weekly on a Friday. The episodes are going to cover a wide range of topics centred around the youth, motivation and inspiration. There will always be a link to the youth. Worried about data? Don't worry, if you listen to the podcast on our website, you can choose between low, medium and high quality settings to suit your data needs. An entire total ten minute episode will only use around 16MB of data on high quality. This low data use means that any one in South Africa should be able to access the podcast without worrying about data costs! We hope you are as excited as we are to bring the Joy of Media to life.
