How to stay afloat under pressure, Mental health Awareness with MeWe |
Prioritizing one’s mental health above certain other matters in life is important, yet sometimes it is difficult to do so due to various reasons, including lack of study-work-life balance. Is it actually possible to strike such balance in hectic schedules we, as students, have? What resources are useful to maintain a healthy balanced lifestyle with priority given to our mental well-being? Why is mental health vital in the first place? All of these questions and more were addressed in our special episode made in collaboration with APU MeWe (Mental Wellness) student organization amid mental health awareness month. Our guests, Salome and Yonghee, who represent MeWe, gladly talked about their organization and mental health, in general. Give it a listen, leave your comments or thoughts and follow MeWe’s account for extra-useful mental health content and exciting events: @apu.mewe

Marathon
Our 8th episode featured the wonderful Japhta, a graduate school student who joined us in conversation about health, sports, wellbeing and joining a marathon! We enjoyed a long heart to heart conversation on the importance of physical well being and the need to listen to your body and acknowledge its demands. As students, we don't always have the time to be physically active but Japhta has proven otherwise. We discussed the upcoming Beppu-Oita Mainichi Marathon, an annual marathon held from Oita Umi no tamago to beppu kamegawa which is organised by Oita and Beppu city hall !
To all participants of the marathon, we wish you all the best :))

Perks of living downtown / Downtown vs. Dorm
In this episode, with our guest Purbi, we introduce our different lives downtown and in the dorm. If you’ve already moved downtown away from the dorm, you’ll be able to bring back your memories of your good days in the dorm. On the other hand, if you are an APHouse resident, you can have a better idea of where to visit, shop, and dine! Purbi and I also give advices for each other that you also may pick up for the betterment of your life. Experiencing the life in Beppu has always been entertaining while APU is also a great school where you can go beyond your limits. We hope you can pick up useful information in this episode with us!

“Getting Older” 「
Ep.6 is about the lifelong question: Getting Older.
“We’re only getting older baby, and I’ve been thinking about it lately~…” This is from the song “Night Changes” by One Direction, and what it says is so true. Time ticks equally for everyone, and we all are getting older. The thing is, how we get older, the process and experience. In the episode, our host Ayane asks her mother Naoko questions about the idea of “Getting Older” and they discuss how we can deal with our lives. Let’s join them and imagine ourselves in the future.

Inclusive Education
The terms such as “gamification”, “inclusivity” and “entrepreneurship” may seem to be unrelated at first. However, in this special episode, we were able to hear valuable insights on how these concepts can be integrated and act transformatively in wider contexts of sustainable business and inclusive society as well as for the betterment of our APU community. We have been lucky to benefit from the wisdom of our inspiring and supportive professor Santiago RUIZ-NAVAS teaching at the College of International Management (APM) of APU. Make sure to check out this enlightening episode and leave your comments!

Being Away from Home
What is HOME? There will be 100 answers if there are 100 people. In this episode, the host Ayane and the guest Kamiko discuss about being away from home with their definition of home and what home means in life. As you know, APU has an environment high in diversity with people from all around the world. It means, probably most of the people in APU already left their first homes with families. Then, we would like you to think with us, about what is home, and what happens when you cannot feel like home.

Decision-making is in itself a hard process and, as young adults, we experience that in our day-to-day lives as well. After-graduation plans require an even more rigorous thinking process. To alleviate our student-life concerns a bit and to assist the decision-making processes all of us go through, we talked to two of our senpais, got to know their experience, challenges, lessons and asked for their advice . In this episode, we discussed matters ranging from finances to post-graduation options, from a bigger picture view on after-APU life to small nostalgic moments at APU. Give it a listen to this useful extra-interesting episode and share your thoughts with us.

Let's Talk about Gender #02 - EQUAL X APU
In this episode we continued this month's theme of pride with conversations in English. This episode is especially special because it is a collaboration episode with Equal APU, a circle in APU that works towards spreading awareness about pride and providing a safe space for open discussion. We have two very special guests who have joined us for this episode, Samara from Equal APU and Raz from our very own Kaiwa Podcast team. Together we talked on topics related to gender fluidity, Gender in Japan, Gender and APU and a lot more. We were able to create a comfortable space without judgement. We also hope that all our listeners are able to find their own version of comfort through our conversations :)

June is Pride Month, and we are having Karin as our guest to discuss about gender! This episode purposes to let people know that the Pride Month is not only relevant for LGBTQIA+ people, but for everyone. Productivity & Personal Management
Being a student comes with a lot of responsibilities and pressure to perform well. Performing well requires you to be organized, productive and self-motivated. At APU, it’s easy to want to do it all - perform well academically, join circles, participate in events, and have a fun social life. But we all know this is easier said than done. In this episode, four APU students gather to share their thoughts on productivity, laziness, difficulty of staying focused online, imposter syndrome and more. They also share some tips that have helped them prioritize their health while achieving their goals. Check this episode out and let us know what you think!

How Art and Politics Shape Each Other
Everything is Art, they say. But is it really? What makes Art, Art? And what makes Art political? Does the audience play any role in Art and its politicization? And how does Art contribute during crises or conflicts? These are all questions that guests Carin Budiarto and Mico Sentana dissect with host Dorcas in this episode. They also spotlight ArtLords, an organization in Afghanistan that is using art to promote peace and freedom in the nation's capital, Kabul.
Listen to this reflective episode and feel free to message us through the mediums below to let us know what you think.

English-Teaching in Japan: Confronting Unfair Hiring Practices
We put out our final episode earlier this week but we bet you didn’t think we would leave you without a bonus episode. In this episode, we talk to returning guest Maria about discriminatory experiences she has had during the application process for English-teaching part-time(arubaito) positions. Here in Japan, many English language schools require native English nationality as a point of eligibility for a part-time applicant to apply for the position. This is a problem. Host Dorcas and Maria share their thoughts on why this is a problem and where it may have originated from. Maria also drops some gems for non-native English students and others to find opportunities despite the barriers that may exist. Do listen for more!
Thank you for staying with us throughout season 2. See you again next season, when more exciting stuff shall unravel.
