Kaia Fit Owner Who Lost 100 Pounds, Parenting as a Step-Mom of 2 After Wanting to be Child Free - Caren Roblin S7 E18
LOCAL EDITION EPISODE!
I've been a pseudo-stepmom to my boyfriend's two kids since entering their lives five years ago. We waited a long while before I even met his now 18-year-old daughter and now 12-year-old son.
We've very much taken everyone else's perspectives and experiences into consideration when it has come to the pace of our relationship. We're absolutely soulmates, but we're not married yet simply for bigger-picture reasons and also some financial reasons. Although marriage has always been part of the conversation.
We have my boyfriend's two kids 50% of the time, week on and week off. The daughter graduates high school this year, so changes are definitely in store in the coming months.
I personally always desired/chose to be child-free. However, I made the choice to accept and welcome my boyfriend's kids into my life. On the good days, I feel like I'm getting a piece of something that I would've not experienced being child-free. But on the tough days, it can be extra hard. I just super appreciate everything my boyfriend has done to help secure respectful relationships between me and his kids.
I own Kaia FIT Sierra, a women's fitness and nutrition program with four Reno-Sparks studios that are accessible to all members, as well as online workout options. We focus on personalized training in a group atmosphere through eight group class types to help women find their hard, have fun, achieve their goals, and connect with our community of supportive women.
I also manage social media accounts for several small business clients. I have a 19-year background in all things journalism/media/marketing, which has made me an expert in all things social media, including graphic design (which I occasionally teach a class about at the University of Nevada, Reno).
I'm also exploring getting into the commercial real estate market. We'll see!

Parenting After Growing Up Needing To Heal Trauma & Crisis with Teresa Walkerley- S7 E17
LOCAL EPISODE!
First time I ever did a drug I was 5 years old. My father tried to rape me when I was 11 yrs old. My mother tried to beat me when I was 12yo. My brother and I were on meth when I was 14 yo and he tried to have a weird romantic relationship with me. I left home at 16 yo.
I say all that so you know where I came from with how I grew up and the parenting skills I started with. I waited until I was 30 to have children because I wasn't sure if I was going to fuck up my kids if I had them. I had gone through so much growing up and I was still relying on pot and alcohol to cope and escape stress in my life. I also had an abortion at 18 and I wasn't sure if I'd ever be ready to parent nor did I feel I deserved to have children after being careless.
But my hormones kicked in when I was 29 and I turned into an animal about having kids, lol. Literally, I could only think about having kids and how I must become a mom, lol. I'm laughing to myself about how quick I changed my mind and how determined I became.
Fast forward, I became determined to be a great mom. I would be different then my parents, I thought. I'd do everything right and my children would listen to everything I told them because I would pour my love into them. ...yeah, that didn't happen. After we had our 2nd child, our 3 year old became uncontrollable. So I took parenting classes, saw a child psychologist to get advice on how to parent him, read um-teen parenting books, watched videos and trained myself to become a better parent. It was so hard. My husband traveled, I had no family to help but to be totally honest, I was a control freak. So even if I had help from him or family, I would have wanted everything done my way, when I wanted it, how I wanted it. Ha! I'm so glad I'm different now...how I've learned and grown, thank God.
Fast forward to 2024, my children are 15 and 12. I've gone through another challenging time with parenting. My husband has been ill. We weren't sure if it was terminal. He started to show signs of his illness (Chronic Inflammatory Demyelinating Polyneuropathy) November 2023. It hit hard March of 2023.
I have been married for 20 years. We were separated for a year and a half before we decided to give our marriage another try. His behavior towards us wasn't new as most people would say once I told them what was happening behind the scenes. It was amplified understandably so since he lost his ability to walk, he has been in constant pain and we hadn't been able to get his treatments for months. Doesn't mean the behavior was ok, just means it makes sense about it being amplified.
We have had the most tremendous support. I started to drown in all of the chaos. But in the summer of 2023, more help poured in. We're in a much better emotional place in our family. I realized my partnership as husband and wife with Sean is over. But I have been determined to nurture our friendship while we work on him getting better.
Our son is still riding the line at the deep end. Our daughter has finally asked for help. We're all in counseling. And with the help of professionals and the willingness to do the work, we're taking this crazy journey on the path to success.
I am an Intuitive Life Coach. I use Astrology, Mind/Energy work, and Myers Briggs Type Assessment Indicator in my coaching practice. I also use feng shui with clients (coaching or stand alone)

Positive Parenting Through Divorce with Sarah Armstrong S6 E94
Here are some tips to dispel the myths of the miserable divorce, how to talk to children and promote a good divorce, which is one in which the children come first:
● Show your success and happiness with your head held high. Attend your children’s events and school meetings with your ex, gracefully acknowledge your children’s time spent with your ex as an important time for development for your children, and focus on self-care for yourself.
● Half-truths about your divorce can mutate and spin out of your reach. Share your situation with a limited number of people, especially at work and among friends too, so that you can control the flow of information and protect your children from misinformation about the details of your divorce.
● Children are impressionable regardless of their age. When telling children, generally less is more and simpler is better. In the best divorces Sarah has witnessed, the children are unaware of why their parents got divorced.
● Gossips fuel the myth of the inadequate divorced parent. Surround yourself with “energy givers,” Sarah says, not energy takers, which is what gossips are. Don’t imbibe them.
Sarah offers inspiring personal stories of how she worked with her ex-husband to structure their divorce, and she provides sage advice for taking practical steps to work toward a good divorce.
Sarah Armstrong is the author of The Mom's Guide to a Good Divorce: What to Think Through When Children Are Involved. She is also Google’s v-p of global marketing operations and is based in San Francisco.

Parenting an IVF Baby Born With Multiple Disabilities & Strokes with Bill Cushing S6 E93
After several miscarriages, we took the in vitro route.
Even before Gabriel was born, he was saddled with multiple disabilities (physical, mental, genetic), so I like to discuss the problems for parents in similar situations when navigating their attempts to secure assistance, services, or equipment for children in need.
It's my hope that our journey in this maze will help others as they begin their own.
I am a retired college English instructor who continues with the occasional class. I have been busy publishing my own books over the past several years (four books of poetry, a collection of short stories, and several manuscripts currently under construction).

Lawyer To Family Travel Company, Parenting a 2nd Baby During Covid & Cleft Lip Surgery - Lee Friedman S6 E92
- I am a mom of two kids, ages 7 and 3 at the time of the podcast
- For me, one of the hardest parenting transitions was maintaining a sense of self as a working parent, and finding time for the things important to me. Travel was always a big one.
- Before kids, travel was how I stayed grounded and inspired and connected to my dreams and life goals. It was how I reduced stress, and cleared my head.
- Traveling with kids can be harder, full of chaos -- but I learned it can do the same thing.
- After my youngest had surgery on his cleft lip at 8 months old, during COVID, we were exhausted. We took an incredible family trip together and really reconnected, and came back with more energy and enthusiasm for life.
- After that trip, I decided to pivot from my career as a lawyer to launch a family travel company.
My goal is to encourage parents who value travel to keep taking those trips with kids -- and to help them do it in a way THEY enjoy too.
It doesn't have to be all about the kids. It can be about mom and dad too and, in fact, planning trips with your OWN wants/needs/goals in mind can help the whole family have a better, more connected experience.
After being a lawyer in private practice for 15 years, I now run a family travel company.
My website is a resource for new parents looking for travel inspiration from someone who understands the unique challenges of traveling as new parents.

Breast Cancer Survivor, Parenting As A “Bonus Mom”, & Podcaster with Jamie Vaughn - S7 E12
SPECIAL RELEASE LOCAL EPISODE!
Jamie Vaughn is a retired school teacher, bonus mom of 3 adult children, wife to her amazing husband, Farrell, dog-mom, and “Glamma” to 2 granddaughters.
Jamie is a recent breast cancer survivor, who is a fierce advocate for other breast cancer patients and survivors. Her journey has been an emotional struggle and still is, at times, in her survivorship, yet she does recognize all of the silver linings as well.
Aside from her mother’s death only 4 years ago, which was downright gut-wrenching, breast cancer has been a whole new level of trauma.
Jamie has shared her story through social media, podcasts, and news programs. She holds a lot of space for others too.
She has her own podcast called “Test Those Breasts!” where she holds important conversations with patients, survivors, caregivers, multiple types of therapists, and a myriad of medical providers, including surgeons, oncologists, radiologists, and nurses, in order to provide much-needed support.
On her podcast, she and guests discuss ALL things breast cancer, including the emotional toll, advocacy, treatment/surgical options, caregiving, and more. She started her podcast as a healing mechanism AND to help shorten the learning curve for the newly diagnosed, survivors, caregivers, and anyone else who is touched by breast cancer.
Absolutely nothing is off-limits for me. I am an open book when it comes to my journey, including my initial response to my diagnosis, unexpected detours, disappointments, anger, fear, silver linings, etc.
In learning more about the Becoming Parents podcast, I have noticed that you focus a lot on how cancer affects us emotionally, which is so important. I always encourage others to walk into and honor their emotions (good, bad, ugly) in order to embrace the process of their own individual journeys. I can also speak to support, advocacy, 2nd opinions, my surgeries, etc.

Parenting with a Broken Tailbone from Forceps Delivery, Severe Postpartum Depression & Yoga - Sarah Parise S6 E91
~Tough time getting pregnant due to an undiagnosed thyroid condition, Hashimotos.
~Birth trauma (My daughter wasn't breathing when she was born so she was taken to the NICU immediately with my husband and I broke my tailbone during delivery, so recovering was unique/challenging in many ways)
~Self-care after birth was non-existent and that's the way I thought it should be. Give everything to your child, nothing remains yours, that's what motherhood is.
~After digging myself out of the darkness of postpartum depression I was determined to change the narrative on self-care for all mothers!
~I created The Great Days For Mom Method Program to empower moms to prioritize their own physical, mental & emotional health for just 2% of the day so that they can tame the chaos of motherhood, have more energy and ultimately experience more joy, resulting in MORE GREAT DAYS!
I am an experienced personal trainer, yoga instructor, CEO & business owner, but most importantly, a mother. Becoming a mother was a dream come true and a nightmare realized all at the same time. I struggled with postpartum depression, extreme mom guilt and anxiety dictating my decision making. Having struggled on my own for so long, I was determined to change the narrative on motherhood. I take pride in helping my clients transform their lives.
As a coach, I spend time understanding the root cause of the issue, set milestones throughout the process, and celebrate when goals and dream scenarios are achieved. I've been recognized by moms of all ages, and stages of motherhood around the world, for my extraordinary commitment to empower them to feel their best, so they can give their best, to their families each day. Bottom line, I help moms have MORE GREAT DAYS!
I teach moms through fitness, yoga, mindfulness, meditation, nutritional awareness, and overall self-care to carve out time each day to focus on their own health. I don't believe in weight loss programs, extreme dieting, or exercising for hours a day. I focus on transformational change that can last a lifetime!

I was a sick kid with allergies and specialists. I applied all my gut health knowledge onto my kiddo. She is super healthy. No allergies. Well regulated. I was asked by her preschool to give a little all to the other parents on how to feed the kids so they could be more regulated ( easier for teachers)
I’m now working on helping my daughters school with food and how to nourish the kids so they can focus and be regulated.
I have a food and mood coaching program for parents and professionals. “Un- hijack your ( and your kids) brain from foods that make u”you feel off and dis-regulated) crave foods that make you feel on and regulated.

Parenting From A Place Of Love & Meaningful Conversations with Teens with Alana Heim S7 E8
SPECIAL RELEASE LOCAL EPISODE!
What I’ve been working on lately with my kids (and husband) is to stay in the place of love, and holy shit is it hard! We’ve been having meaningful conversations with Tayla (15) and allowing emotional expressions from her and the twins (Hazelleia + Hunter, 9). We’ve been learning to acknowledge, pause, listen, be curious, and let go of our judgments and reactions. Again, hard! But so good in the way of growth.
I can weave in info about their energies and share stories. Whatever you want, let’s go off-roading!
As the Cosmic Prosperity Activator, I guide individuals, couples, and business owners to align who they are with what they want so they achieve sustainable prosperity. I use out of the box thinking, Human Design, Gene Keys, energy work, intuition, and strategy to support clients with innerstanding their relationship with self and money. Together, we navigate the energetic currents beneath their business, life, and money.
I use Human Design and the Gene Keys to support you with innerstanding your unique energy blueprint. When you know how you receive energy from the world versus how you radiate it, you know how you are here to call in your own natural prosperity flow. I use remote energy work to support you energetically with clearing your chakras, releasing stuck fears, emotions, and others' energies that hold you back from your true wealth potential.

Sleep Deprivation, Postpartum Depression, Therapy, And Parenting While Working After Kids - Gabriele Nicolet S6 E85
How hard could it be? That's what Gabriele thought when she became a first-time parent. As a pediatric speech therapist, she thought she had the skills to make motherhood easy. Little did she know.
*Postpartum depression is hard
*There were lots of "parenting rules" she got to sift through (and get rid of)
*There's a reason that sleep deprivation is used a form of torture
* There's a reason that babies are cute (it's so that you won't throw them out the window!)
*Typical development is a miracle.
Gabriele is a speech therapist and parent coach. She is the owner and Head Toddler Whisperer at SpeechKids, a private online speech therapy practice serving families both in and outside the DC Metro area. She is also the co-founder of Raising Orchid Kids, a parent education and coaching practice Gabriele is passionate about showing families how to help their Orchid Kids (kids who need a little bit “extra”) thrive and not just survive. She works with children and their families 1:1 and in groups through her Raising Orchid Kids programs.

What It's Like To Parent A Large Blended Family and Role Of Love Dice with Paul Zolman S6 E82
I have fathered 8 children with my first wife.
Absorbed 6 more with my second wife
and 2 more with my current wife.
I was raised in an abusive home and vowed to myself and whoever would listen that I would not be unkind to my children.
I was entering a new field of something I knew nothing about... effective parenting. I had to learn quickly what works and what didn't work. Chore charts worked great.
When they want to be beside you all the time, incorporate them into the activity, regardless of how busy you are. They just want to be included. Love is more powerful than anything.
Teach them to build trust and don't violate the trust. If there are errors or mistakes along the way, emphasize the good rather than the error. If you want good to grow, nourish it.
If you want their bad habits or actions to grow, pay attention to them and focus on that. Let your garden grow.

Changing Unhealthy Patterns In Parenting & Coaching Other Parents with Candice Cochrane S7 E2
SPECIAL RELEASE LOCAL EPISODE!
Grew up in a home with an alcoholic mom who I KNOW loved me but because of the circumstances, I was forced into unhealthy coping mechanisms (people pleasing, magical "empath" qualities, constantly questioning my inner voice and compass)
One day I realized I was communicating with my kids the way she communicated with me...not healthy communication patterns AT ALL
I realized I was parenting with the unwritten generational parenting handbook that my ancestors passed down to me without me even knowing it. Although I swore I wouldn’t be my mom, I did in fact, become my mother.
Started researching and learning about different ways to parent, friends and family sought parenting advice and guidance so I decided to look into becoming a coach
Changing the way I parent has completely transformed the bond I have with my kids and it started with ME!
ABOUT CANDICE:
I own Parents of Presence and I am a parent coach.

Fertility Coach Who Struggled Getting Pregnant Helps Other Women To Conceive - Margot Thornton S6 E79

My coaching practice works around the 5 pillars of health that impact your fertility: nutrition, exercise and movement, sleep optimization, environmental chemicals, and the mind-body connection as it relates to stress resilience.
My unique skillset as a coach, yoga instructor, and energy medicine practitioner gives my clients the tools they need to regulate their nervous system so that they can switch out of fight or flight mode into rest and digest so that their body is ready to pro-create.

Doctor of Physical Therapy Realizes Gaps in Postpartum Care After Her C-section - Kelly Urionaguena S7 E1
I'm a first-time mom of a little boy, who is 18 months old.
My experience with healthcare during pregnancy and postpartum was not positive. I was always left wanting more information about health and fitness.
I ended up having a cesarean and never once saw my Doctor in the hospital. No education on healing, getting out of bed or caring for an infant with a new abdominal wound.
I'm fortunate to have my education in Physical Therapy. I cannot imagine how moms feel in my similar situation who don't have the knowledge to help themselves.
Having babies and parenting is hard. It takes a village as the adage, but some peoples' villages suck. I want to help if I can.
I chose to start my own business to combat some of the norms in America. Like needing to choose a career or family. I want to choose both. And provide a service that is friendly to moms. Not only a service that is needed or is lacking in today's healthcare, but try to eliminate barriers such as needing childcare to attend, inability to leave the house, or difficulty fitting in one more appointment.
IN HER WORDS:
I am a Doctor of Physical Therapy and own Sparks Mobile Physical Therapy. I am rehumanizing rehabilitation by delivering hands-on, individualized care at a location of your convenience. I help busy moms bridge the health and fitness gaps during pregnancy and postpartum in order to feel strong, capable, and confident in their bodies. I also help active adults enjoy life to its fullest by staying fit, mobile, and pain-free.

Ectopic Pregnancy, Blended Family, Adoption & Parenting After The Loss of a Child with Kim Peacock - S6 E77
My husband and I have a blended family.
A daughter each from previous marriages, 1 biological daughter, and 3 adopted boys.
We experienced a parent's biggest fear when we witnessed the accident that took our oldest daughter's life. We had to learn to parent to our grieving kids, while also grieving ourselves.
My book Victorious Heart details our story and offers helpful encouragement to others who are walking in grief.
IN HER WORDS:
My name is Kim Peacock. God has rescued me from myself more times than I can count, and I'm so thankful for His infinite grace and mercy in my life.
My husband Larry and I have six amazingly, unique kids who have brought beautiful color to our lives. Some of those kids are now gifting us with grandkids, who have us completely wrapped around their little fingers.
In 1998 our oldest daughter Nicole was killed in a tragic off-roading accident. When Nicole went to Heaven, darkness invaded our world, and we wondered if our family would survive the crushing pain of grief. As we grappled through our sorrow, we learned how to live in the "new normal" of life without Nicole. It was in that journey that God gave me the passion for living Victoriously in grief and helping others to do the same.

I got sole custody of my 3 children representing myself in my divorce (I am not an attorney).
More recently I have transitioned into coaching in the career transition field. I am transparent about my wins and losses and all the struggles in between.

Pediatrician and medical geneticist, Robert A Saul, MD, has been guiding parents and children for over 40 years - S6 E75
Over 44 years as a pediatrician, I have developed a keen awareness of parenting skills, raising our children to be good citizens, how to improve our communities, and advocating for children.
My books, MY CHILDREN'S CHILDREN: RAISING YOUNG CITIZENS IN THE AGE OF COLUMBINE,
ALL ABOUT CHILDREN (illustrated children's book),
THINKING DEVELOPMENTALLY: NURTURING WELLNESS IN CHILDHOOD TO PROMOTE LIFELONG HEALTH, and
CONSCIOUS PARENTING: USING THE PARENTAL AWARENESS THRESHOLD, provide an array of fertile material for a variety of discussions about parenting and the like.
Pediatrician and medical geneticist, Robert A Saul, MD, has been guiding parents and their children’s physical, behavioral, and mental care for over 40 years. He is Professor of Pediatrics (Emeritus). Dr. Bob Saul developed the Parental Awareness Threshold, a simple framework that guides parents and guardians to actively parent with self-awareness, empathy, and compassion. Parents who use this framework create a healthy environment where children learn to build safe, stable, and nurturing relationships as well as exhibit love and respect for others in their community.
I have authored several parenting books and desire to spread the messages of parenting as an exercise in raising good citizens, conscious parenting and community improvement.

Marriage and family therapist specializing in anger and parenting - Bronwyn Schweigerdt - S6 E74
Bronwyn is a psychotherapist, public speaker, podcaster, and parenting expert.
She went from not wanting kids to believing in an idealized parenting relationship that (of course) didn’t go to plan. At age 5 she emotionally abandoned her daughter, due to a 10-year bout with depression although she was going through the process of becoming a therapist. Her daughter is now an adult and they’re continuing to learn to have a positive relationship.

THE ESSENTIAL GUIDE for FAMILIES who are Parenting with DOWN SYNDROME - With Steve Friedman - S6 E70
28 years ago our first daughter was born. Gwendolyn has Down syndrome and has taken us on a wonderful journey. We struggled at times and now celebrate her independence journey which has culminated in continuing education beyond high school, work, independent housing, and self-advocacy. Most parents find independence for those with Down syndrome and other intellectual disabilities to be an overwhelming mystery.
My website (www.BeyondDownSyndrome.net) and book 'The Essential Guide for Families with Down Syndrome' provide guidance and resources so families can navigate the opportunities and challenges toward success.
This generation is the first that will outlive their parents/caregivers. This invites great opportunities and many challenges including health, financial, and housing. Regardless of your child's age, the time is now to build an independence plan to achieve your family's goals.
After 30 years in corporate America, I'm now an author seeking to share experience and guidance to serve my community.
Award-winning books include 'The Corporate Introvert: How to Lead and Thrive with Confidence' and 'The Essential Guide for Families with Down Syndrome: Plans and Actions for Independence at Every Stage of Life.'
I enjoy every facet of the process from writing, editing, publishing, and marketing and love to talk to others about my journey and how we can apply learnings to their biggest personal challenges.

Growing up in the military as a foster family, to parenting his own kids - With Aaron Gore - S6 E66
I have two amazing girls at home, ages 18 months and 5. I grew up in a family that did foster care and childcare for much of my life, including the adoption of my littlest sister, who I helped raise while my father was away on military assignments.
The experience of being surrounded by small children made me realize that the most important job I could ever have would be to help guide a young life as they developed and grew. Moreover, I had a responsibility to make the world a better place for them than it was for me and to help them have a better life than I had been accorded.
I also work in the alcoholic beverage industry. My job is extremely demanding (60-hour weeks are the norm), necessitating a balance between my time with my family and what my company needs. It also means that my daughters have been raised around bars and breweries, something that would be anathema to my extended family that believes alcohol is the root cause of society's ills. It's been a challenge, but also one that I hope will leave them as healthier and more responsible adults
I work for a startup growing exponentially year over year, and while the majority of investment comes from other sources, I was a co-founder of our disruptive business model, and have helped navigate the struggles of the company's early life and the challenges of explosive scaling

Brutally raped and stabbed at 7, aged out of a group home, parenting as a foster mom, and earned an Emmy - Mandy Lemond - S6 E65
Author Mandy Lemond is a former foster child turned Emmy Award-winning TV Producer.
At just 7 years old Lemond‘s father raped her and left her for dead, that same night, he murdered little Mandy's mother. Lemond's father's crime left the Kentucky native a true orphan.
Mandy aged out of foster care after spending more than 11 years in a group home. She recalls, “I went to college with $5 to my name." With the same tenacity Lemond used to overcome her childhood trauma, she graduated on time from Eastern Kentucky University and was immediately hired by the local NBC affiliate as a TV Reporter.
Lemond continued to beat the odds – statistically only 3% of foster youth have a college degree.
Mandy's life finally seemed perfect, until December 2020, when Lemond's foster-adopted son, high on drugs, shot into the wrong home. The unintended target nearly died, the gunfire blinding the then 5-year-old. Lemond’s nearly 20-year marriage crumbled. She found herself divorced, with a son in jail, and facing homelessness. But, with the same determination she garnered as a child, Mandy found a new purpose.
She developed the 5-method, which is featured in her memoir, The Fostered One. Her book release is planned for December 2023, and her second book release is scheduled for spring 2024. Mandy is also a motivational speaker

The roller coaster of twins' growth as a parent and couple
- prepare for 1 and get 2
- living in love it's not about the fall
- we are born with personalities
- You are no longer number 1
More about Roger:My writing is based more on the motive in motivation. From my experience in the classroom, weight room, and football field, the difference between people's actions and words has always intrigued me. The real measurable difference in action and intensity between comfort and tribulation, along with the ability, at times, to bring the two closer together is just an interesting phenomenon.
Roger has written 5 books and is a motivational speaker and high school teacher.
