India tops the list of countries being hit by ransomware attacks
So we have a new report coming from Sophos, which is actually a result of the survey they conducted with 5,000 IT managers across 26 countries, and according to the data, almost three-quarters of ransomware attacks result in the data being encrypted. And it was actually the case in some of the recent ransomware incidents that involved major IT companies like Cognizant, where attackers used Maze ransomware to infect and encrypt every computer in its path and exfiltrate victims data to their servers. WhatsApp to allow 50 users to connect over a video call using Messenger Rooms
WhatsApp already allows users to make video calls using iOS and Android apps. And just recently, the company extended the limit of numbers of users who can connect over a video call at the same time, from 4 to 8. So, you can be a part of WhatsApp group chat where there are up to 8 members connected in real-time over a video call. But no such functionality is currently available in WhatsApp Web. And Facebook is reportedly working on the possible integration of Messenger Rooms into WhatsApp Web. Vista Equity Partners investing Rs 11,367 crore in Reliance Jio
Reliance Industries Limited and Jio has announced that Vista Equity Partners will invest Rs 11,367 crore into Jio Platforms. This investment values Jio Platforms at an equity value of Rs 4.91 lakh crore and an enterprise value of Rs 5.16 lakh crore. Vista’s investment will translate into a 2.32 percent equity stake in Jio Platforms on a fully diluted basis, making Vista the largest investor in Jio Platforms, behind Reliance Industries and Facebook. Home rental company Airbnb, is laying off nearly 1,900 employees, which constitutes 25% of Airbnb's total workforce, in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, which has brought global travel to a near standstill. The laid-off employees in the U.S. will get 14 weeks of base pay, in addition to one additional week for every year at the company. Silver Lake investing $750 million into India's Reliance Jio
Reliance Jio has announced that American private equity firm Silver Lake is investing $750 million into Jio Platforms. This investment represents a 12.5% premium to the equity valuation of the Facebook investment, which was announced a few days ago. Reliance Jio says the investment led by Silver Lake is further testament to the world-class digital platform that Jio has built, powered by Cloud and Edge Computing, Artificial Intelligence, Internet of Things, among other technologies. WhatsApp sees 70% decline in spread of viral messages
The speed of “highly forwarded” WhatsApp messages has declined by 70 percent. Earlier this month, WhatsApp introduced measures to address the spread of COVID-19 related misinformation. As a result, messages that have been forwarded by five or more people can now only be forwarded to a single person or group.
