In "Echoes of Misery: Navigating Nigeria's Turbulent Waters," we dissect the labyrinth of challenges plaguing Nigeria, from budget padding scandals to a distressing upsurge in violence. The episode weaves through the narratives of personal loss, shining a light on the grim reality of death's frequency and the societal neglect towards planning for the inevitable. It critiques the extravagant and often performative nature of funerals, juxtaposed with the tone-deafness of political leadership, exemplified by controversial actions and statements from high-ranking officials. This discussion extends into the grandiosity of Nigerian politicians, the endemic poverty of leadership, and the state's seeming incapacity to curb violence and kidnappings, especially in educational institutions. #58 - The Puzzled Search for the Real Tinubu

#58 - The Puzzled Search for the Real Tinubu

In a realm where uncertainties intertwine with the corridors of power, the enigmatic persona of Bola Ahmed Tinubu emerges as an enigma within an enigma. For three months, he has assumed the role of Nigeria's presumed president, yet the search for the authentic identity concealed behind the veneer remains a perplexing enigma. Against the backdrop of ongoing petitions challenging his apparent victory in the 2023 presidential election and a legal case against him in the United States, the elusive question persists: Who truly is Bola Ahmed Tinubu? Amidst Nigeria's political landscape teeming with shadowy figures, Tinubu stands in a league of his own. Cloaked in a haze of unanswered inquiries, from birth name to educational journey, his biography is veiled in layers of uncertainty. As Atiku Abubakar's lawsuit seeks to unravel the truth through the U.S. legal system, Nigeria's presidential election tribunal faces a momentous test – to ascertain the authenticity of Tinubu's claims. In a nation yearning for transparency, the verdict holds significance beyond the realm of politics, resonating especially with the vibrant Nigerian youth.

#54 - Tinubu, Leader or Impostor?

#54 - Tinubu, Leader or Impostor?

In this podcast, we delve into the paradox surrounding Nigeria's political landscape and the question of whether Bola Ahmed Tinubu is the legitimate president and leader of the country or an impostor. The international financial community, including Reuters and Bloomberg, has expressed enthusiasm for Tinubu's agenda, praising his quick reforms, such as removing fuel subsidies and overhauling the currency system. They see him as a potential solution to the disastrous legacy left by former President Muhammadu Buhari. However, it's important to consider whether these commendations align with the interests of Nigerians or primarily serve Western economic interests. While Tinubu has impressed some Nigerians, there remains a lingering perception that he possesses a stolen mandate, particularly considering the ongoing presidential election tribunal. The Nigerian judiciary's reputation is also at stake, and unless compelling countervailing evidence is presented, a verdict upholding Tinubu's election could further harm its standing and cement his reputation as an interloper.

#50 - Nigeria’s Fiesta of Distraction and Tragedy

We discuss Nigeria's recent political scandal and the distraction caused by Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed's interview. Instead, we argue that the focus should be on the conduct of the 2023 general elections, particularly the presidential polls, which were marred by violence, ballot snatching, and the sabotage of voters by some INEC officials. We explore whether the presidential election was manipulated to enthrone Bola Ahmed Tinubu and how this has led many Nigerians to believe that the presidency was stolen. Join us as we delve into this pressing issue in Nigerian politics.

#49 ----- Tinubu, The Audacity of A Lie

The Nigerian presidential election held on February 25th, 2023 is described as an egregious exhibition of how not to run an election. Despite promises made by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the election was marked by fraud and thuggery. The declaration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the winner of the election was a lie, and the judiciary must find the moral spine to reject the electoral heist. Concern is expressed for Nigeria's youth, who were unable to effect change through peaceful means and may resort to resistance if impunity stands. __________________________________________________________

#43 ----- Doyin Okupe and Other Perils of Nigerian Politics

“The ANAP poll revealed a tailwind for Obi’s campaign. But that boost was undercut by the conviction of Doyin Okupe, the campaign’s director general, on charges of money laundering. Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu of the Federal High Court, Abuja, found Okupe guilty of laundering more than N700 million. She sentenced him to serve two years in jail, or to pay a file amounting to N13 million.”

#40 ----- Is Soludo a Prophet, Sourpuss, or Both?

“Last week, Soludo launched two salvoes to earn himself attention and irritation in, it seemed, equal measure. Appearing on Channels TV to discuss his proposed budget, he was asked about the investments that former Governor Peter Obi had made prior to leaving office in 2014. Obi, who is auditioning for the job of Nigeria’s president, has often bragged about his husbandry of state funds during his eight-year tenure as governor. At first, Soludo demurred, telling the Channels TV anchor that he intended to focus solely on his budget. Even so, he allowed himself to take the bait. In what seemed like a sly comment, he disclosed that Obi’s much-discussed investment was, essentially, peanuts.”

#37 ----- A Season of Unforced Political Errors

"Nigerians are caught in the vise of cashlessness compounded by festering poverty. It’s no surprise that there’s desperation in the air. This desperation has birthed a fresh, and quite refreshing, quest for a more thorough evaluation of political candidates. Voters seem to be saying to politicians, effete rhetoric will no longer suffice. Pray, come up with real answers, will you?"

Haunted, perhaps, by that dubious legacy, he has missed no opportunity to position himself as a solicitor for Nigeria’s development – a fervent advocate of positive change."

"It took him four months and counting to find an opening in his calendar to see the beset relatives of abductees. In countries that take their citizens seriously, where the meaning of leadership is understood, leaders act with alacrity."
