In this episode of "The Photography Junkie" podcast, the impact of social media on the photography industry was explored. Social media has brought both positive and negative effects, with platforms like Instagram offering global exposure and new opportunities for photographers to showcase their work. However, it has also led to market saturation, a race to the bottom in pricing, and a risk of homogenization in photography styles as photographers vie for attention and conformity.

The podcast emphasized the importance of developing a unique style and voice to stand out amidst the sea of social media. Building a strong brand and specializing in niche services were suggested as ways to attract clients seeking something different. The episode also highlighted the launch of the website's new shop section, featuring photography guides and articles covering topics such as lens selection, drone photography, and recommended tripods. Additionally, intriguing news stories were discussed, including the introduction of a camera assistant bag, NVIDIA's AI technology for transforming 2D video into 3D structures, and the copyright implications of Adobe's Generative Fill feature in Photoshop.

Overall, the episode provided valuable insights into the impact of social media on the photography industry, practical updates for photography enthusiasts, and engaging news stories relevant to camera accessories, AI advancements, and copyright considerations.

Episode 2 - Interview with Conceptual Photographer Karen Jerzyk

Episode 2 - Interview with Conceptual Photographer Karen Jerzyk

Welcome to the Photography Junkie Podcast! In this episode, we have the pleasure of interviewing Karen Jerzyk, an internationally acclaimed artist whose photographs capture the haunting beauty of isolation in elaborately staged scenes. Her newest series, The Lonely Astronaut and 1969, showcases a lonely astronaut wandering the interiors of long-abandoned buildings in a futuristic America. With meticulous attention to lighting, texture, and color, Jerzyk's work evokes a mood of romantic desolation that leaves a lasting impression on the viewer.

As a largely self-taught artist based in Boston, Massachusetts, Jerzyk has been exhibiting her work internationally for years. Her initial foray into photography was through capturing abandoned spaces, but after an encounter with the police in 2014, she began carefully selecting locations for her on-site photoshoots. This mix-up with the law, however, thrust her work into the spotlight and earned her features in notable art magazines such as Colossal, Hi-Fructose Magazine, Artscope Magazine, and PULSE.

Join us as we delve into the mind of Karen Jerzyk and learn about the inspiration behind her captivating images and her exploration of narrative storytelling in photography.
