Micah Fluellen, BSVC '20, shares his story of how the Semester-in-DC program, a gamble on a personal loan and the power of the Scripps alumni network have catapulted him into an amazing role, very early in his career, at The Los Angeles Times. We also hear from 1990 journalism alumna Mary Reed on "defining your own success." 

Gentry Bennett, BSJ '17, really hustled to secure amazing, paid internships while a student in the E.W. Scripps School of Journalism. Hear about how her early career involved free air travel, learning whole new industries and stints in both Texas and California. Students are also reminded to "nurture relationships" by 1987 organizational communication alumna Sarah Schneider, now working for her cherished alma mater!

This episode offers an insider look at the Scripps College of Communication exclusive Miss Universe Organization internship program as we hear from former intern and Communication Studies alumna Marisa Mason, BSC '15. We also hear how important an actual phone call to a potential employer could be in 2021 from Matt Freedman, BSJ '91. 

Hear from 1991 journalism alumnus Scott Milburn on why it's important to be authentic, that it's OK to be scared and how to get started in the industry. Host Erin Roberts, BSJ, BA '00, reminds students of upcoming events, while J. Warren McClure graduate Wrienne Mitchell, BSC '05, urges students to "keep moving forward."
