In 2018, Ryan and Danielle made the decision to expand and redefine the future of The Red

Barn. Through research, hard work, and patience, they navigated the permit process and embarked on a journey of renovations. Their official permit was obtained in June 2019, marking the beginning of the transformation from a Walnut Huller to a Wedding Venue. Over the course of a year, they created the bridal suite, groom suite, renovated the reception barn, and added a spacious 15,000 sq. ft. lawn for the ceremony area, all in preparation to host remarkable weddings and events.

However, just as they were on the verge of opening, the pandemic struck, altering the landscape of special events. Undeterred, Ryan and Danielle used this time to enhance and create additional remarkable spaces for future weddings. Now, The Red Barn features a large wooden arbor, a stunning chandelier for romantic first dances, and a truck stage capable of hosting either a band or a DJ, allowing guests to dance the night away under the stars.

Following Arthur's ownership, his son Stewart transformed the 63 acres into an organic vegetable farm, supplying sustainably grown foods to local families.

Maxine talks about the transformation of her venue and her goal of providing a one-stop-shop experience for clients. She emphasizes the significance of knowing the market, being strategic, and adapting to trends. Maxine also discusses the role of social media and feedback in her marketing strategies. They also discuss Maxine's growth in bookings and how she manages multiple events in a day. Maxine shares her catering services, the use of a CRM platform for organization, and her plans for expansion. She also shares her journey as an entrepreneur and her pride in providing jobs and running a nonprofit organization.

About Our Guest:

Maxine Baptists is the CEO and founder behind Occasions on Main, the bustling event venue located east of downtown Atlanta. She has transformed a historic gem built in 1865 into a venue that delivers flawless all-inclusive weddings, corporate gatherings, and social soirées. Occasions on Main hosts a variety of events, from Bar and Bat Mitzvahs to Celebrity Celebrations and more. Despite Baptiste's self-proclaimed introverted and shy nature, she becomes an unstoppable force when it comes to exceeding her clients' expectations.

Originally hailing from Toronto, Canada, Maxine Baptiste is a serial entrepreneur who worked for a successful Fortune 500 company before taking the brave step of resigning and relinquishing the security of a guaranteed salary. In 2012, Baptiste transitioned into event planning, initially offering venue management services and implementing innovative marketing strategies for business owners. Five years later, an opportunity arose that led her to purchase her own commercial building, a transition that was both daunting and marked by a lack of available mentorship or guidance. This absence of support in her early entrepreneurial journey inspired Baptiste to empower other women, who were embarking on similar paths. In addition to her role at Occasions on Main, Baptiste initiated a non-profit coaching program.

Standing Out in a Saturated Market | The Venue RX

Standing Out in a Saturated Market | The Venue RX

In this week’s episode of The Venue Rx Podcast, our host Jonathan Aymin sits down with Kelly Ewell, the owner of 48 Fields Farm, a wedding venue in Northern Virginia. They discuss various aspects of venue ownership, including challenges, attracting couples, and the importance of personal connection and soft skills in the wedding industry. Kelly shares her origin story and how she got into the wedding industry. She talks about the challenges they faced in the beginning, getting financing for their property, and the different buildings on the venue. They also discuss county regulations, offerings and packages at 48 Fields, challenges with vendors, and the future growth of the venue. Kelly emphasizes the importance of understanding the target audience, differentiating from competitors, and providing a personalized experience.

About Our Guest:

The idea of 48 Fields began as a series of late-night stories that typically started close to midnight. Steve would be half asleep, but Kelly was wide awake from having just gotten home from a wedding. There was plenty to say about photographing beautiful brides and heartfelt moments, but conversations always ended up focused on the venue. For years, Steve heard all about the good and the bad of the different venues that Kelly worked with. Until one night in 2013, the story ended with a question.

What if we started our own venue?

Fast forward to today, they are not your typical venue owners. They have actively pursued this venue to support their family. Second, they are hands-on owners, not detached managers who rely on a team that filters through a revolving door. When you call or email, it's then who will reply. When you come to visit, it's them who will greet you. They are the ones with you from the first email all the way leading up to your wedding day.

They never want to lose sight of the fact that marriage and family create the cornerstones of their legacy, and they are so honored to share 48 Fields with others as they begin the journey of starting their own.

From Restaurant Chaos to Wedding Bliss | The Venue RX

In this week's episode of The Venue Rx Podcast, our host Jonathan Aymin sits down with Jessica Heddings, the owner of a venue called Island View Waterfront. She discusses how she discovered the podcast and her experience in the wedding and events industry. Jessica shares her transition from running a restaurant to operating a wedding venue, her marketing strategies, and the tools she uses for her business. She also talks about her booking process, the challenges she faced, and her vision for the future of their venue. Jessica emphasizes the importance of excellent service and creating a positive experience for clients. She also discusses the impact of the economy on her business and her pricing model.

About Our Guest:

The Island View Venue is steeped in history, and has a rich heritage dating back to the Prohibition era. Originally constructed as a waterfront dance hall, tavern, and idyllic picnic grove, it served as a blissful escape for Baltimore City residents seeking respite from the scorching summer heat. In 1968, Tom and Fran Laing acquired the property, transforming it into Tom's Tavern, a cherished local establishment that thrived until 1983 when it underwent a transformation and emerged as The Island View.

In the year 2000, the building underwent a comprehensive renovation, capitalizing on its prime waterfront location to offer patrons an unparalleled view of the serene Chesapeake Bay. Although Mr. Tom and Ms. Fran have passed away, their legacy lives on through their granddaughter, Jessica Laing-Heddings, and great-grandchildren who continue to steward this cherished four-generation family business.

As a venue, The Island View stands as the quintessential setting for weddings, special events, and joyous family gatherings. Nestled in a central location along the East Coast of the United States, it draws visitors from far and wide, beckoning them to unwind, celebrate, and savor the breathtaking vistas. This hidden gem is synonymous with tranquility, warmth, and a magnificent view that stretches across the Chesapeake Bay, making it the ultimate destination for those seeking solace and beauty.

From Personal Wedding Vision to Thriving Venue Business | The Venue RX

From Personal Wedding Vision to Thriving Venue Business | The Venue RX

In this week's episode of the Venue RX Podcast, our host Jonathan Aymin interviews Alex Gold, a venue owner in Center Point, Texas. They discuss Alex's unique wedding venue, Elm Pass Woods, which features an outdoor festival vibe and Scandinavian teepees. Alex shares her journey of how she got into the wedding industry, starting with her own wedding and then realizing the potential for her venue to be a business. They talk about the challenges and successes of running a wedding venue, including the impact of COVID-19. Alex also emphasizes the importance of transparency in pricing and the use of a CRM system for effective venue management. She concludes by sharing her favorite part of owning a wedding venue, which is being a part of couples' joyous celebrations.

About Our Guest:

Mike and Alex had been dating for a solid five years after meeting at Crossfit. And in 2018, on one of their yearly trips to Maine to visit his dad, he proposed to her at the top of Cadillac Mountain in Acadia National Park. He had been planning it for months, and she had no idea – even her parents were waiting at the top of the hike to congratulate them!

Shortly after getting engaged, she stumbled across a photo of a giant-hat tipi wedding in the UK while exploring Pinterest. It was completely different than anything she had ever seen before, and she was hooked. Being outdoorsy folk, it wasn't hard to convince Michael, and so their theme was decided – a whimsy-filled festival with giant-hat Tipis!! They also knew their three dogs needed to have a part in their nuptials. After some research, they quickly realized there weren't any venues in their area (or in the US!) offering the wedding festival they were envisioning without having to hire out every single element. So, they set to work, putting their own together from scratch.

After 10 months of getting their 20-acre slice of Hill Country heaven ready for “Haws Wedfest,” and with tons of encouragement from family and friends, they decided to bring the festival vibes to other couples... at Elm Pass Woods!

Why Risk Management Is Crucial for Venue Owners | The Venue RX

Why Risk Management Is Crucial for Venue Owners | The Venue RX

In this week's episode of The Venue Rx Podcast, our host Jonathan Aymin sits down with Justin Sutton from Nuptial to discuss the importance of risk management for venue owners. He highlights the need to protect the business and its assets, and the potential consequences of not doing so. Justin explains how his company helps venue owners address their concerns and mitigate risks related to their business structure, working with others, insurance contracts, and more. He also discusses the specific risks that venue owners may overlook, such as contractual obligations and alcohol service. Justin emphasizes the significance of equipping venue owners with the right tools and knowledge to handle risk effectively.

About Our Guest:

Justin founded Nuptial to be a bridge between venue owners, vendors, attorneys, accountants, insurance brokers, and other professionals. It wasn’t possible, or even practical, to get all of those people in the room together and discuss an owner’s goals.

There he found the challenge. If there were a group of people who knew, at a high level, how to discern what a venue needed and how to walk an owner through the questions to ask of all of the people above, the right answers would fall in line as they should.

This approach starts from the bottom, with the nuts and bolts of what you do. Then we determine how relationships, both internal and external, should be founded. When you’re entering and exiting these relationships tens or even hundreds of times a year, it is, without question, fundamentally important to get right every time.

They highlight the lack of technology and transparency in the industry, which inspired them to create Venues Made Simple. The platform serves as a lead generation platform for venues and a user-friendly platform for engaged couples to access venue information and availability. They discuss the compatibility of their platform with both blank canvas venues and all-inclusive venues, as well as the challenges faced by venues in dealing with leads from other marketing platforms. Meet the visionaries behind Venues Made Simple Jeff and Jessie Pavalone. Their main goal was to simplify the life of engaged couples by providing the tools needed to find and book the wedding venue of your dreams!

They were supposed to get married in May 2020, but ended up tying the knot in a different way in September 2020. Understanding The Importance Of Self Care In The Fast-Paced World of Weddings | The Venue RX

Understanding The Importance Of Self Care In The Fast-Paced World of Weddings | The Venue RX

In this week's podcast episode of the Venue Rx Podcast, our host Jonathan Aymin sits down with Jaclyn Watson from Jaclyn Watson Events to discuss mental health in the wedding and events industry. Jaclyn shares her background in the industry and her recent experience at a Cater Source + The Special Event conference. They talk about the importance of being open and honest about disabilities, educating clients without scaring them away, and setting boundaries with clients. They also touch on pricing strategies, the pressure to constantly book events, and the need for more transparency and standardization in the industry. Jaclyn emphasizes the importance of prioritizing mental health and self-care so you can ultimately serve your clients better.

About Our Guest:

Despite her degree in Psychology and Business Management, Jackie never set out to be a wedding planner. It was a career path that she discovered when she was planning her wedding in Vermont. Jackie was astounded at the lack of personal and customized planning for such an important day in people’s lives. She felt keenly that what was missing was vendors who cared about them and their stories as much as producing a sparkling event.

This eye-opening experience made her realize that a large number of engaged couples were underserved when it came to finding someone who would plan a personalized, luxurious and experience-driven wedding, and Jaclyn Watson Events was born. This was a perfect fit for her years of being in the performing arts and her love of people, design, and production.

Over the decades that Jaclyn Watson Events has served New England, they have gained the reputation of being the wedding planning company that provides unparalleled service and produces events that showcase their client’s dreams. Jackie’s approach to the planning experience is one of relaxation, creativity, and ease. She is an inspired innovator and relentless in her pursuit of refinement and perfection in her designs.
