Grab a picture from 2009, and then grab another one from 2019. Put them together. What’s the first thing you notice? Something to do with your growth? Ponder the things that bothered you back then, the things about yourself that you didn’t understand, the things you’ve grown to realize you are meant for, and how serious you are now about yourself. •

2009 was a year, and not all will hold that specific year to any significance. However, all of us have something we can document from a decade ago to gauge just how much we have become better. A lot of us are walking in purpose, making strides in finding out who we truly are. Some of us are on the road of discovery, and the remaining is learning that life is bigger than the bubble they put themselves in. That glorious moment of enlightenment. •

Let us utilize this challenge as a means to give ourselves a progress report. To highlight our improvements, but also to recognize the patterns we perpetuate and really looking at breaking cycles of bad habits and behaviors that were disguised, but we are privy to now, with our Hindsight being 20/20.

With the passing of a Black Comedic Legend like Mr. John Witherspoon, TWC begs the question, are OUR royal court jesters getting their flowers?

Oftentimes we never consider the how rare it is to have a comedian we grow fond of, we anticipate their character portrayals and hold the times they’ve made us laugh deep in our hearts.
However, do we lift up the voices that help us relate to the outside world and it’s issues. It’s time we take a moment to highlight the importance of Black Comedy.

Birmingham's Own Michael Kure a.k.a. "Kure with a K" of Super Solid Records, has been featured on The Whitted Committee more than anybody else. He is one of our frequent guests that we love to hear from and chop things up with. So when he released his latest project, it was a no-brainer to interview this dope artist that has been around TWC since we started spreading our wings. Michael Kure released his project "The Unknown EP 2" on July 18th and when it was time for the interview on the 24th, The Whitted Committee were fans on this project.

Having an affiliation with Kure, we know that his inspiration to start rapping was J.Cole, so as an apt conversation and since Cole's label is Dreamville, we decided to make this conversation Having Nightmares of Dreamville. On your road to your purpose, you will be met with opposition and circumstances.  The thoughts that manifest, those doubts, are the nightmares that hinder your progress to arriving at Dreamville. We dive into this discussion and unsurface alot of Kure's past doubts and his motivations behind this project.

On this episode of #WhittedWednesday we dive into a methodology that THE Always Authentic Annise Austin put out into the atmosphere as a self-help practice. As we journey to our respective destinations in life one thing remains a constant, we need guidance. In May, Annise posted three instructions for the betterment of our well being, mental health, and day to day vitality. She said to, "Master Your Energy, Control Your Emotions, and Deny Your Flesh."

This episode was transparent, as always, and we hope that you can align yourselves to the same system of values to promote a better, more refined, happier you. Our methods may not be form fit to you, but we think our resilience is most definitely something you can align with. This is "The Recipe" we use to Finally Realize Our Greatness.

Happy Father's Day!! Before we get started, allow us, The Whitted Committee, to extend our well wishes, gratitude, and respect to all the Father's being celebrated this Father's Day. To all the new Fathers and those becoming grander Fathers as well. This episode was perfectly timed as we take the opportunity to recognize dope fathers and also highlight their significance and importance in our community.

Our fathers are necessary for the development of our future generations in lieu of realizing what takes place when a child is missing one. Our youth need both parents and the extenuating circumstances that follow when they don't, are things we are trying to correct: Identity issues, delayed purpose, mismanaged emotions, and a broken compass.

This week we had two VERY special guests in the building , Mr. Rod G. Newman @tao_mn, and Birmingham's own G.I. Magus @githeartist. Join us as we jump into this topic that is sure to bring a call to arms for good father's, and cause great discomfort to those who are father's who have forgotten their responsibilities.

TWC Episode 16: "A State of Depression"

Previously Recorded 6/5/2019 @ Smash Bros. Studios

#Episode16

The Whitted Committee is back and in this current climate, Depression is a term used in a vast dynamic to announce the whereabouts of our mental health. In this episode we discuss the difference between people who visit Depression under the guise of "having a bad day", and those whose address is inside the "State of Depression". To those that do reside in Depression where are you (or "is it" for that matter) actually from? Are you from Stress? Anxiety? Guilt? Numbness? The vastly populated Anger, Depression is probably a familiar city to a lot of us. As we delve into the throws of this dynamic, multi-faceted conversation about where the attacks on our mental health come from, how to recognize the symptoms of depression, and where to go to find help.

We were very fortunate to have the very accomplished and noteworthy Dominique Cecil M.eD LPC NCC of Yellow Bird Counseling LLC. to join us in studio for this conversation, she highlights certain aspects from direct experience and expertise as well as answer questions we had personally you may have as well. Please lend an ear to Eyes & Ears and #FriendOfTheShow Ms. Tiadra Tucker as we journey through a conversation that affects everybody no matter the background or demographic. TWC Episode 14: "Black Righteousness"

TWC Episode 14: "Black Righteousness"

Mr. Robert F. Smith

Dubbed by the New York Times as the richest black man in America, he is a man of power and influence who came from a home of two parents who both saw success in education as both his parents had PHD's. Mr. Smith has worked to put his company Vista Equity Partners, LLC at the top of its class in respective expertise. Mr. Smith took the 2019 class of Morehouse College and completely covered their scholastic debt. ALL of these men will go forth without the pressures of debt from education.

In lieu of that information, its surprising and sickening to see how BLACK people tear down a BLACK man because he married a Caucasian female. Mr. Smith's wife is indeed Caucasian, but that doesn't negate the fact that what he did for those hundreds of men who are scholastically debt free.

Join Eyes & Ears as we delve into this dynamic that we as black people, and all of our unwarranted self righteousness, need to be aware of the divisive nature of our stances when it comes to matters that WE don't directly hold merit to. Mr. Smith had an affluent upbringing and has worked to not have financial issues, due to his efforts he was able to make a difference in the lives of young black men. Why have the black men who have done nothing, think they have the right to condemn him for his love interests? Tap In.

After a brief hiatus and a location change of our respective studio, The Whitted Committee is back with Episode 13. We took the show on the road and made Washington DC our playground for Margarita March, a bar crawl at 8 respective bars in Downtown DC. We did some networking and team building and once we returned to Birmingham, its business as usual. The studio change was necessary and we are thankful for the new space, but we knew with what was going on in THIS state, we would have done a grave disservice by not discussing Alabama's Abortion Ban.

It is utterly disgusting the things that were expressed from men, let alone our leaders. However, we are thankful. The events have shown us who's who. No longer are we responsible for not knowing which men stand in the gap for women in Alabama, but especially black women in Alabama.

Eyes and Ears, are back with the culprit, Bob Waterbye. Join us and have the discussion amongst yourselves about this illustrious character, and his need to devalue and silence the cries of our women.

Gotta take some time to recognize @ssr_kourage and (now two weeks in a row!) @ssr_kure7 as they dropped by to drop a few lines with Eyes and Ears as we dive thru the differences between Activism and Advocacy, and how both are necessary. In the midst we chopped up purpose, your personal awakening moment, and how to help Kourage further his goals and aspirations to his community, and his dope brand/movement "Eliminated".  Between the neighborhood garden he plans to start and upcoming events and performances, he and @ssr_kure7 will have their hands full. Stay tuned and #StayWhitted.

TWC Episode 10: "The Power of Culture"

TWC Episode 10: "The Power of Culture"

Recorded Live 4/10/2019 @ Smash Bros Radio

#Episode10

We would like to preface this by highlighting our involvement with our Smash Bros Radio 2nd Anniversary Party (check our social media pages to see some of the dope event), due to us celebrating our own involvement with the ensemble, we highlighted the owner of Smash Bros Radio and his consistent sacrifice to his dream that we all share an investment into. WE, The Whitted Committee, stand vehemently behind our deservingly, highlighted leader and the push to make Smash Bros Radio everything in our cities. In short, this is what took us so long to upload!!

In our efforts to celebrate and define what Blackness is, this episode wasn't a departure from those purposes. Our culture has long been documented and preserved by our music. In an attempt to label and market the talent, label executives began categorizing all Urban "rap" music as Hip Hop. There is a difference. There is an obvious distinction. As we lay Nipsey to rest, we are forced to look at what Hip Hop truly is. We must take note of the power it has. We must utilize it with wisdom. We decided to allow Kure and Richard Daniel, artists from our city, ( and our #FriendOfTheShow Cass) to come chop up what Hip Hop is and what it has been for them throughout their lives. Enjoy and as always, #StayWhitted!

TWC Episode 9: "The Resurrection of Hussle"

TWC Episode 9: "The Resurrection of Hussle"

Recorded Live 4/3/19 @ Smash Bros. Radio

#Episode9

First Things First. Rest In Power Nipsey Hussle. Your movement will never not have momentum because we, "The Middle Children", know what we signed up for when we wanted to be like you and change our own communities. Everything that takes place now will be the result of those that wanted to, but didn't know exactly how, to Finally Realize OUR Greatness by looking at your blueprint and adhering to your tutelage. We will always speak truth to power in your divine absence.

Aside from that, we will not allow ourselves to misplace the blame necessary for Nipsey's death, nor will we avoid highlighting what needs to be addressed in our own community. "Dwight Mann" and Dr. Sebi are not who and what we should be focused on, but moreso, what do we need to do in our communities to ensure, our leaders, can have the time here with us, to be leaders.

TWC Episode 7: "The Black American Dad Story" - Chapter 1

Recorded Live 3/20/2019 @ Smash Bros Radio

#Episode7

Eyes and Ears are here to highlight the broken infrastructure of our households. The dichotomy of "the black father" and its dutiful purpose of cultivating its seed.  There is an obvious lack of consideration for the necessary impact of a father from the cowardice measures taken by the fathers themselves, and the undeniable scars left on our youth from the neglect they've endured.

As said in this episode, "Fatherhood, impacts our Neighborhoods, which impacts our Brotherhood." If we want our society to grow in a fruitful and empowering dynamic, it starts with our MEN.
