The American Canine

The American Canine

By Tony McFee

About all the things we do with our dogs.
Dogs are more than just pets. They are our confidantes, our companions. They are our sidekicks, our cohorts, our comic-relief. They are our biggest supporters and our constant champions. They are our best friends. They are family.

No where in the world is this more apparent than it is here in the USA.

Episode 17 The Hardest Part

Episode 17 The Hardest Part

Possibly the hardest part of pet ownership is when it comes to an end, when we have to say goodbye to the friend and companion who has become such an integral part of our life.

No matter how long we have with them, goodbye always comes too soon. That loss can weigh heavy on us, but there is support for those who need it.

On this episode of The American Canine Podcast, we meet Connie Starr, a woman who used her own grief over the loss of her dog to inspire her effort to form a support group for others facing that same struggle.

You can learn more about the program here.

Episode 16 NW Battle Buddies

In the United States Army, soldiers are assigned a partner – or  “battle buddy” – as a friend and ally to assist one another in and out  of combat. One woman took that idea as an inspiration to make sure soldiers coming home had someone they could count on and launched Northwest Battle Buddies, an organization training service dogs for veterans.

Episode 14 Iditarod Champion, Dallas Seavey

Episode 14 Iditarod Champion, Dallas Seavey

The Iditarod is a test of courage, strength, and stamina for man and dog alike. Few can succeed in this grueling race, fewer still can repeat their championship performance. And so far, only two have ever repeated that feat five times,. One of those is Dallas Seavey.

Following his record-tying fifth win in what is called The Last Great Race, Dallas spoke with us for The American Canine Podcast to talk about how he got started on this trail, what drives him to keep at it, and how being an Iditarod Champion may just be in his blood.

For more information on Dallas and what he is doing you can check out his webpage or even more great material on Facebook.

Remember, if you like what you hear, like, rate, subscribe. All that stuff. It is a big help for me, so people can find the podcast.
