As Women's History Month winds down, We Are Jersey magazine would like to honor notable women in sports. Meet Amanda Frost and Teeigh Young - two amazing basketball coaches that have a mission to help young kids succeed on and off the court. These two were born and raised in Red Bank, NJ, and have a long history of winning awards and championships. After dedicating 12 years of their lives to coaching and training, they were finally able to open up their own basketball camp in South Jersey. Fusion School of Basketball is unlike any other; the camp emphasizes the importance of academics as well as discipline and respect. The vast majority of players at this camp are young kids, many of whom will later go on to play college ball.

We were able to capture the true essence of our healing circle as The Beast Within hosted our annual Survivor Sister Brunch where we celebrate another year of surviving and thriving. The vibes are always dope each and every year but this year, everybody got a little more transparent and ironically, our vulnerability became our strength. As we shared our survival stories of domestic violence, tears were being shed and hugs went all around the room. We hope that this audio can help anybody going through it or have gone through it to understand that you are not alone and we are here, ready to welcome you into our sisterhood with open arms. 

Keep in mind that we did not record the entire conversation being that we wanted everyone to be comfortable with sharing their stories so we chopped up the audio. 

STATS:
- 20 people per minute are physically abused (USA)
- 1 in 4 women suffer severe intimate partner violence
- 1 in 7 women have been stalked
- There are 20K phone calls a day to DV hotlines nationwide
- 40 percent of DV are not reported.
- Since covid, DV has increased by over 40 percent.

I brought on two amazing women who have dealt with custody battles and divorces and now they're sharing their gems on how to navigate the court system regarding finding the right lawyer, documentation and proof, child support  and visitation rights. Please share this episode with someone who may need it. 

For someone who used to be scared of failure, who needed everything to be super perfect before launching... I've come to realize that I have been holding myself back from my own potential because I allowed fears to take over me. Do not let your doubts and insecurities control you. Give yourself props for taking risks, even if it doesn't turn out the way you want it to.  Stop only seeing yourself successful in the future but also in the present. And always remember, rejection is God's redirection. Talk to yourself nicely especially on the days you need it most. 

Dealing with emotionally immature and insecure people can do so much damage to you, no matter how far you've come and how much you've healed - do not let anybody into your heart and soul that cannot add to your happiness and peace. Insecure people with egos bring chaos into your safe space and make you doubt who you are and if you're good enough. The minute someone has you comparing yourself to the next person, that person needs to go because now you're questioning your self worth and compromising your mental health. Love yourself so much that you will not settle for less. Acknowledge what you want out of a relationship, out of a partner and out of life (period). 

Carissa discusses her skin care and make up regimen with me while we catch up on old times and reminisce about Seton Hall days along with how far we've come since then. In a male dominated field, the name Natalee Gilbert rings bells when it comes to the topic of rap's top journalists. 

In this Pretty Pothead segment, Amber Le steps into The Reefer Room with Jasmine and Kelsey as they break down how real besties are supposed to move. They emphasize on the dislike of cliques, building a brand together but most importantly - keeping the Girl Code first and foremost. The two beautiful women share their vision for The Reefer Room and what to expect within the near future including Reefer Retreats, giveaways and more. The three of us had such a genuine and raw conversation where nothing is off limits especially Mary Jane.

She discusses looking for answers after surviving rape and domestic abuse against what statistics say. We talk about comparing social media and how it glamorizes life when in reality, people are taking L's in silence while screaming out their triumphs. 

Bee Papino has been dubbed the "Serial Entrepreneur" of Jersey. She has started three successful businesses such as We Are Jersey Magazine, Jersey Diamondz and a real estate company. She talks about how she began fully investing in herself after the loss of her mother. Bee shares valuable resources for all entrepreneurs who need a little push to get the fire going. She has helped me out tremendously and now she is here to drop some gems in hopes of helping the next person with a dollar and a dream. 

What does it mean to unleash The Beast Within? It means to claw out the best version of you possible, to level up and keep evolving, to trust God and the universe, to walk within your purpose as you stop doubting yourself. For the first episode, I introduced a little bit of myself to you as a domestic violence survivor and advocate who is on a mission to start a nationwide movement revolving around self love and healing.
