26. Minimalist Living for Every Day
Minimalist living can help you live a more meaningful life with less. Less of the distractions that keep you away from what is truly important. Even good things can be a distraction if they don't add value to your life. Your smartphone is a very useful device, but it could be distracting you from writing an article, composing a song, or starting to read a book. Set yourself up for success by intentionally choosing the things that you allow into your life. Simple living helps you to go back to the basics of what is valuable and helps you remove the excess. As Socrates once said, "The secret of happiness, you see, is not found in seeking more, but in developing the capacity to enjoy less." ➡️ BOOK: Things that Matter by Joshua Becker ➡️ BLOG: Becoming Minimalist: https://www.becomingminimalist.com/ ✅ Follow The Beautiful Mess Subscribe on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCz28aStbk-5Apxqyj_WWYqw Instagram: https://instagram.com/tbmshow Twitter: https://twitter.com/StartMessy Facebook: https://facebook.com/TheBeautifulMessShow ➡️ You can also follow me here: YouTube:  https://youtube.com/pauldittus IG:  https://www.instagram.com/pauldittus/ Twitter:  https://twitter.com/pauldittus Website:  https://pauldittus.com Hosted by Paul Dittus (@pauldittus)

12. Information Overload and What It Does to Your Brain
In this episode, Paul dives into the impact technology and the internet has on our brains. If you look at the data and the neuroscience behind technology use, we encounter around 4000-10000 ads per day and the media-rich content we consume overwhelms our brain. Back in 2012, a study found that we were consuming around 63 gigabytes a day. Fast forward 10 years and that number is likely to have increased. "Rich media" is overloading our brains. We were made to learn thimble by thimble, not by drinking out of the water hose of modern media. Our cognitive abilities were not made to handle the overstimulation of our brain. 🎒 RESOURCES What The Internet Is Doing to Our Brains: The Shallows by Nicholas Carr Amusing Ourselves to Death by Neil Postman Digital Minimalism by Cal Newport Smartphone Use Data from Statista Article on How Many Times a Day You Check Your Phone Article on Americans' Media Consumption Forbes Article with Ad Data ✅ Follow The Beautiful Mess ➡️ You can also follow me here: YouTube:  https://youtube.com/pauldittus IG:  https://www.instagram.com/pauldittus/ Twitter:  https://twitter.com/pauldittus Website:  https://pauldittus.com Hosted by Paul Dittus (@pauldittus)

7. Seven Messy Moments of 2021 My Year in Review
In this episode, I look back at 7 messy highlights of 2021. On the podcast, I don’t want to just talk theory, but also demonstrate how embracing the messiness of life can lead to a more enriching life. These messy moments of 2021 include: starting CrossFit, starting a new career, moving to a new state, starting a YouTube channel, and more! Taking on the messiness allowed for new opportunities and growth. Even though it was hectic, I’m so glad for the new adventures that began as a result.  I’ve learned so much by just starting and kicking my perfectionism to the side. Every video I make or podcast I record has shown me ways to improve that just learning about online would never have shown me directly.
