Ep 47 - Brainfood with of German Vollbratch and Gabriel LLaurado Meat N' Bone

Meat N' Bone is an Online Butcher Shop offering more than 300 meats in Beef, Pork, Poultry, Lamb, Fish & Seafood. Luis Mata had the spark idea for Meat N’ Bone and co-founded it with German Vollbratch and Gabriel LLaurado in 2018. His passion for a good steak and frustration with the lack of quality in Miami led Luis to recruit 2 of his best friends to start what is now one of America’s coolest butcher shops, serving the highest quality meats in Miami and all over the US. Meat N' Bone is not your average butchery. Luis and his team, having a tech background, implemented a proprietary software which helps them maximize their inventory management and logistics.

Ep 46 - The Importance of Black Women In Tech

Ep 46 - The Importance of Black Women In Tech

Today's conversation is a panel discussion with local Miami tech facilitators and professionals on the rise and importance of Black Women in the tech space. Our co-host, Tami, sits down with Watsco Ventures tech engineer, Shablé Harris; Nirva Bousiquot, founder of Silks Roads product distribution company; and Jessyka Castillo, co-lead of Black Women Talk Tech Miami chapter with Nirva. Traditionally, technology has been a male dominated space yet throughout history, we have come to learn about Black women who have led powerful tech careers such as Valerie Thomas and Dr. Patricia Bath. According to the National Center For Women & Information Technology study, women of color made up only about 11% of the computing and mathematical workforce in 2019, with Black women only comprising 3% of the total. These numbers are changing for the better, yet slowly. There is a risk of missing out on voices and talent that can move the industry forward. And if we want to truly shift the tech landscape, representation is imperative.

Here are the topics addressed and timestamps: 1:30 Intro & Backgrounds; 8:13 Importance of Visibility in Tech; 12:03 Silk Roads Co; 24:37 Black Women Talk Tech; 26:32 Current Gaps in Miami's Tech Space; 31:11 Importance of Exposing Youth to STEM; 36:04 Ways Tech Companies Can Be More Inclusive; 52:36 Tech Opportunities Within Black Communities; 1:04:34 Ways To Create Space for Black Professionals in Miami's Tech Space

Ep 44 - More Than Just Coworking with 1909, General Provisions, and The LAB Miami

Join us as we speak with three leaders who have turned "co-working upside down" with accelerator programs, educational workshops, mental health efforts, and even virtual communities like no other! Led by Nikki Cabus, VP at Palm Beach Association, today's guests are: Shana Ostrovitz, Executive Director at 1909; Tim Hasse, Founder of General Provision, and Rachael Bickford, Managing Director at The LAB Miami. Co-working spaces have grown in popularity over the last decade and many people wonder if they are just a fad? The average co-working space is simply intended for remote workers or freelances to have a place to go, get out of the house, and share resources such as a printer or wifi. This industry has changed drastically. Traditional co-working has given birth to a new way of thinking . . . to communities with values that help individuals grow, for freelancers to connect and gain resources, a place for startup founders to scale their businesses, and for tech professionals, creatives, and entrepreneurs to feel empowered through their journey.

Ep 36 - Mindful Leadership and Resilience

Ep 36 - Mindful Leadership and Resilience

In this episode, our host Sebastian sits down with Suzanne Jewell, The Mindful Entrepreneur, to explore the 4th Pillar of your start-up. As every start-up requires an MVP, Proof of Concept and a strategic plan on how to reach the ROI for investors, few leaders look at themselves as the 4th Pillar of their business plan. Top leadership schools from Stanford to Yale are training graduates on the practices of mindful attention training. Microsoft’s CEO has said that in five years or less, the #1 skill for leaders, as well as employees, will be the ability to focus the most valuable asset they have; their attention. The #1 most downloaded content during these times on LinkedIn has been about mindfulness, resilience and stress reduction.

From Babson College to The Idea Center at Miami Dade, Suzanne trains leaders on the tools and techniques that help calm the mind to master the overwhelm. Learning things like the Anti-anxiety breath and The Smile Practice actually regulate your nervous system. The neuroscience from Harvard shows that 47% of the time leaders, and everyone, are awake, our minds are wandering. A wandering mind is an unhappy mind, yet you can learn to manage stress better and train your brain to navigate the challenges and keep your cool.

Ep 28 Bathroom Talks 3 - What's Love Got to Do With It?!

Ep 28 Bathroom Talks 3 - What's Love Got to Do With It?!

On Bathroom Talks 3, your host Tami dives into a fun yet insightful conversation on millennial dating and dating trends of our time with her guests, Sam Atherley, Siera Jackson, and Elisa Trujillo. All three ladies are members of The LAB Miami representing Stargazer, Five67, and Connectiv. Dating has a different meaning to everyone, considering that it’s a broad term that has evolved throughout generations. Today, millennials have been labeled for encouraging the hookup culture and are leading the shift of dating trends. On the contrary, the longer we’re taking to commit may be leading to more successful marriages and lower divorce rates.

Financial circumstances due to high student loan debt, the rising cost of living, and the lack of well-paying jobs have changed our priorities when seeking a love interest. With various apps to find a mate, and digital saturation with seemingly endless options, the new approach to dating seems convoluted, but perhaps, our perspective has new meaning and positive change and more than anything, a reflection of our society today. Bathroom Talks creates a space to share the reality of women's everyday lives and how we process our experiences. Feel free to share this with all your lady friends! You never know how this information can help.

Ep 21 - Gender Neutral

Ep 21 - Gender Neutral

This episode highlights gender equality in the workplace with Sebastian Arrubla, a proud member of the LGBTQ community, who leads this powerful conversation. Title VII of the United States Constitution prohibits employment discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex and national origin. Due to the fact that ‘sex’ is not specified in this statute, technically it is currently legal to discriminate against an employee based on gender. This reality has led to gender inclusion and overall inclusivity in any workplace to significantly shift traditional policies and ignorance. Your hosts Sebastian, Rachael, Tami, and Bryant discuss our personal experiences, perspectives on inclusion, and even taboo questions that should probably not be asked. Join us with tears and laughter as we debunk the importance of acceptance.

Ep 4 - Brainfood with Zak Stern of Zak the Baker

Ep 4 - Brainfood with Zak Stern of Zak the Baker

Today's episode highlights our Brainfood Speaker Series featuring Zak Stern, CEO & Founder of Zak The Baker. The bakery and cafe offers kosher fresh bread, pastries, and sandwiches located in Wynwood. At 22, Zak wasn’t living the life he wanted. Graduate school. Organic chemistry. Fluorescent lights. Life, he thought, was too short to be spent on the things in which he had no interest. He wanted to go back to basics, to work with his hands. Today, Zak the Baker is a evidence of this simple desire. With a full service bakery and restaurant as well as wholesale distribution to multiple WholeFoods and endless local restaurants, Zak the Baker is undoubtedly a Miami staple. Hear first hand from the man behind the vision and his insights on entrepreneurship, business integrity, and the endless pursuit of your passion. Moderated by Margo Bettencourt, Director of Sales Marketing at Zak the Baker. Margo is committed to getting more good food to more people (and happy to chat about what “good food” means). She has led Zak The Baker’s Wholesale Department since 2016, a period during which sales have roughly doubled annually.
