'Create the space your looking for' - Queer Run Margate
Before 2023 came to a close I visited the Kent coast to spend some time with Queer Run Margate.
A running community born in May of the same year to create space for members of the Queer community and its allies. A mobile space to move and connect.
I spent some time with its two founders Daisy and Sian before joining the group for a run.
In this conversation we learn how the crew was formed, how you can create a space you want to see and how its members shape the group.
Thank you to Sian and Daisy for letting me come and join them and to QRM for being so welcoming.

The Speed Project - Atacama - with Nils Arend
You may well be familiar with The Speed Project. We’ve had multiple participants on the show reflecting on what has become an iconic unsanctioned race.
Its creators have dreamed up a new adventure. One that takes its participants to the driest desert on earth. With 2400m of elevation, salt flats, volcanoes and extreme heat and cold. From the the Pacific Ocean to an iconic desert Oasis.
It’s going to be one hell of an adventure.
A few weeks back I sat down with Nils Arend, creator, participant and race director of TSP and a driving force behind this new adventure.
We chat about his own take on running, how TSP came to be and what participants can expect when they journey from Iquique to Atacama.

Long Form Dispatches: The English National Cross-Country Relays, Berry Hill, Mansfield
This is a revival of a piece from 2021 commissioned by SOAR running.
There’s cross-country. And then there are the cross-country relays.
From here on, referred to as Mansfield.
Listen to the podcast using headphones for the best audio experience and check out the extensive gallery to follow the story of how the National Cross-Country Relays, held in Mansfield since 1989, has become so adored by athletes from across the nation.
For many in the sport of running, the draw of cross-country is sometimes hard to comprehend, but for others, there’s nothing more exhilarating—especially when run as part of a relay.
An event like Mansfield, where it’s not so much athlete against athlete but club against club, presents clear wins for the argument of sport being a unifier. For being a force for good. For engaging communities.
At Mansfield, you have a high-octane day of racing where community and competition mix seamlessly. A year, ten years or even a lifetime after racing here, runners still recall the twists and turns of the course, the panoply of club tents erected by the pond, and their duct-taped shoes ready to race. Mansfield is one of only a few events in the calendar where first timers, elites, young athletes and veterans unite to run XC for the greater good: their club.
They say endurance running is all about commitment and nowhere have we seen it play out to such an extent as here in Berry Hill Park.
Mansfield, we applaud you.

Alexina Teubel & Nathan Mylenek - The Amateur Elite
For many high-achieving amateur athletes this is an opportunity not to miss but sometimes help and support goes a long way to get to the line.
Tracksmith’s amateur support program aims to help athletes pursue their track and field dreams acting as a stepping stone from the amateur elite into the pro ranks. Helping with travel, accommodation, kit and more to remove some of the financial obstacles when it comes to competing.
This week we caught up with two recipients on the eve of their first-round race.
First up was Alexina Teubel, a steeplechaser who has been having great success dropping down to the 15, with a PB of 4.05.
Alexina finished up 13th in her race with a 4.13.37. and sadly won’t move through to the final, but i’ve no doubt she will continue to impress and pursue her craft.
Next up we checked in with a member of the Very Nice Track Club, Nate Mylenek. Nate was getting ready for the steeple with a PB of 8.28 and a lot of exciting potential.
Sadly Nate didn’t quite have the legs, partly due to feeling run down from getting sick the week before but team chaos will continue to push for sure!
And that's what strikes me about this particular level of competition and for the large cohort of high-achieving amateur athletes that makes up a large proportion of our sport, they have to be allowed the opportunity to compete, take risks and try their potential for the sport to flourish. So props to Tracksmith and other initiatives brands are doing to help give them the support to do so.
Im looking forward to watching the rest of the action play out at Hayward Field this weekend and all the action at the British champs!

On Track Nights x The Big Run - Track Fest - Yared Nuguse
Where the world's fastest athletes meet a festival atmosphere.
The big run is proud to be partnering with On to bring you a series of preview podcasts around their global track night series.
This week we'll be building the excitement for Track Fest with episodes dropping each morning with key figures on and off the track.
On today's episode, we sit down with the North American indoor record holder for the 1500m mile and 3k. Records he secured at the start of this year in a relatively short amount of time. You could say he had the perfect indoor season so we’re excited to see what he can do when he toes the line for the 800m tomorrow at the track fest.
In this conversation we talk about his hopes for his turtle's outdoor season, his expectations for the 800m and why the OTN series will be serving up something very different for athletic fans.
A big thank you to Yared for coming on the show and to you all for tuning in this week.
There’s nothing left but for the athletes to warm up, spike up and get ready to dance as Im sure the audience will be when Kyle takes to the stage.
So, if you are in LA you know where to head tomorrow and for those that can’t make it head over to Sound Running for all the information you need to get the PPV, a large share of which contributes to the athlete prize purse. I myself will be staying up late or getting up early rather to watch all the action unfold.
We’ll be back with a preview build for London’s Night of 10,000m including a special episode recorded live at the event at Highgate. It’s going to be something special.
Here's what to expect at Track Fest:
Part music festival, part track meet, LA's Track Fest is unmissable for running fans (and fans of a good time).
It's a World Athletics Silver level meet organized in collaboration with Sound Running with 800m, 1500m, steeplechase, 5000m and 10,000m events. There will also be a community event where you can watch LA's local run clubs compete for the title in a 4x1 mile relay on the legendary Mt. Sac course. Grab a drink and cheer them on alongside ultrarunner extraordinaire (and master of ceremonies), Mikey Mitchell.
The track will be lit up with pyrotechnics, and surrounded by food trucks and beer tents. Oh yeah, and your food is covered with your ticket. And as if all that wasn't enough, to top it off, we'll have a performance from US rapper Kyle
