Kate Gilby Smith interviews author Sade Fadipe #TheBookChainProject

In Episode 28 of The Book Chain Project, our last interview episode of Series 1, Kate Gilby Smith interviews Sade Fadipe, author of 'A Bouncy 123'.  Sade started writing in 2009 and just a few months after had signed her first book contract with Cassava Republic Press. She started out her career as a linguist and later followed her passion by taking on a post-graduate in Education. After teaching in London for close to two decades, she spent time out in Nigeria where she initiated a training program for teachers on the skill of reading.  Her bi-cultural identity weaves through the realistic-fiction picture books She creates for primary-aged readers.

Melissa Welliver interviews author Kate Gilby Smith #TheBookChainProject

In Episode 27 of the Book Chain project Melissa Welliver, author of 'The Undying Tower', chats with Kate Smith, author of 'The Astonishing Future of Alex Nobody '.  Kate Gilby Smith was born on the sunny island of Guernsey. It was while daydreaming during a philosophy of time travel seminar at The University of Edinburgh that she first had the idea for her debut book, The Astonishing Future of Alex Nobody. In 2015 she moved to London where she works as a publicist for science, philosophy and history books. Her writing for children is inspired by her love of all three of these topics. When not writing, her favourite things are basketball, swimming in the sea and eating ice cream.

Natascha Biebow interviews author Chrissie Sains #TheBookChainProject

In Episode 25 of #TheBookChainProject Natascha Biebow, author of 'The Crayon Man: the true story of the invention of crayola crayons', interviews Chrissie Sains who debuted 2021 with ‘Alien in the jam factory’.   Chrissie grew up in Essex where she spent much of her childhood pretending that she was Indiana Jones and is a highly experienced cushion walker (little known skill of hopping across the floor on cushions in case of lava sharks). Chrissie has worked as a marketing and events planner, a chalet host, a ski guide and a (pretty rubbish) dry-stone wall builder. She now loves turning the daydreams of her childhood into stories. Chrissie enjoys hiking up the fells of the Lake District and skiing down the mountains of the French Alps. She lives in Essex with her husband, two bookworms and two rabbits. Chrissie’s An Alien in the Jam Factory, illustrated by Jenny Taylor, is shortlisted for the Teach Primary Book Awards 2021. Chrissie is also co-author with Cara Mailey of Cara’s debut children’s novel, I Got This, inspired by Cara’s experiences living with achondroplasia.

In Episode 20 of #TheBookChainProject, Emma Mylrea, author of 'Curse of the Dearmad', interviews Jamie Russell, author of 'SKYWAKE: INVASION'.

They talk about the realities of publication, the differences between screen writing and fiction, how to get a great ending and the benefits of being ahead in drafting thanks to a global pandemic!  About Jamie: When Jamie was five he saw a Space Invaders arcade machine in a greasy fish and chip shop at the seaside. It blew his mind and started a lifelong love of videogames. When he grew up, he became a film critic for the BBC and a contributing editor for Total Film magazine. He was sent to special movie screenings and fed free sandwiches.  He thought it was the best job ever. But he was wrong… Later he wrote for videogame bible Edge magazine and realised that it was possible to get paid for shooting virtual aliens in the face with shotguns. He is the author of several non-fiction books for grown-ups (including one on zombie cinema and another on Hollywood & videogames) as well as a trio of short films that have played at film festivals around the world. His first feature film is out soon. He lives in Shropshire with his wife, two daughters and one crazy rescue dog. When he's not writing, he works as a climate activist.

Louise Gooding interviews Danielle Brown MBE #TheBookChainProject

In Episode 14, of the Book Chain author Louise Gooding, who debuted with non-fiction picture book 'Just Like me' this year (2021) interviews the fabulous Danielle Brown MBE, 2 x paralympian gold medallist and author of 'Run Like A Girl - 50 Extraordinary And Inspiring Sportswomen' (2021)

Danielle Brown MBE is a double Paralympic gold medallist in archery, five time World Champion and was World Number 1 for her entire career. She also achieved something that very few disabled athletes manage when she successfully transitioned onto the able-bodied team.  Run Like a Girl is a collection of fascinating biographical stories of 50 highly successful sportswomen, from boxing superstar Nicola Adams to record-breaking yachtswoman Ellen MacArthur and fearless mountain biker Rachel Atherton. As well as giving an insight into their influences, motivations and achievements, each story reminds us that failing can teach us just as much as winning; success isn't limited to the sports field; and 'running like a girl' can lead you all the way to the top.

Claire Fayers interviews Louie Stowell #TheBookChainProject

In Episode 10, of The Book Chain Project Claire Fayers, author of 'Welsh Fairy Tales, Myths and Legends', chats with Louie Stowell, author of 'Otherland '. They talk mythical research, norse mythology, and there's a surprise appearance by Buffy the dog.

Louie Stowell started her career writing carefully-researched books about space, Ancient Egypt, politics and science but eventually lapsed into just making stuff up. She likes writing about dragons, wizards, vampires, fairies, monsters and parallel worlds. She lives in London with her wife Karen, her dog Buffy, and a creepy puppet that is probably cursed.  Her new book #Otherland is a labour of wonder and love. Writing with Nosy Crow, Louie also works in publishing, mentors writers from under-represented backgrounds and is a great supporter of other writers! We hope you enjoy this meeting of magical minds.

Amy McCaw interviews Claire Fayers #TheBookChainProject

In Episode 9 of our Book Chain Amy McCaw, author of 'Mina and the Undead', chats with Claire Fayers, author of 'Welsh Fairy Tales, Myths and Legends'.

Claire Fayers grew up in South Wales, studied English and Comparative Literature at the University of Kent in Canterbury, and is now back in Wales where she spends a lot of her free time tramping around castles in the rain, looking for dragons.  She has worked as a church caretaker, a shoe shop assistant, in accountancy, in health and safety, in IT, and in a library. Only one of these prepared her in any way for life as a full-time author.  She works from her home in the Welsh mountains, sharing her workspace with a pair of demanding cats and an ever-expanding set of model dinosaurs who sometimes like to pretend they are pirates

Sheila Averbuch interviews Amy McCaw #TheBookChainProject

In Episode 8, Book Chain interview Sheila M Averbuch, author of 'FRIEND ME (Scholastic US)', chats with Amy McCaw, author of 'Mina and the Undead'.

Amy McCaw is a YA writer and blogger. She's the author of Mina and the Undead, a YA murder mystery set in 1995 New Orleans.

Her main interests are books, movies and the macabre, and her debut novel has elements of all of these. If Amy's not at a book event or reading, she can usually be found scribbling away in her writing room, surrounded by movie memorabilia and an out-of-control signed books collection. Unsurprisingly, she's a huge Buffy the Vampire Slayer fan and has gone to conventions to meet James Marsters more times than she cares to admit.
