The Bower commissioned Thursley Radio to produce a radio show responding to the documentaries Poly Styrene: I Am a Cliché and Sisters With Transistors and exploring women in music with Irene Revell and Zakia Sewell.

Thursley Radio is a monthly music show produced by Nadine Peters, exploring the historical context and influences that have informed the work of women and gender-non conforming sound artists. Previous guests have included Ain Bailey, Sunun and Vivienne Griffin.

BIOS

Zakia Sewell is a broadcaster, writer and DJ from London with a passion for music, arts, mental health and history. She regularly produces and presents radio documentaries and podcasts for platforms including BBC Radio 4, BBC World Service, Tate, and Boiler Room and has covered varied topics from Caribbean ancestral drumming, to schizophrenia and intergenerational trauma, to improvisation in the arts. She has a weekly show on NTS Radio, called Questing w/Zakia, interviewing guests and playing cosmic music from across the globe.

Irene Revell is a curator and writer working across sound, text, performance and moving image. She is Co-Director of Electra; teaches on the MA Sound Arts at London College of Communication; and closely involved with collections including Electra’s Her Noise Archive and Cinenova. She is currently completing doctoral research at CRiSAP on the history of the text score collection Womens Work (eds Alison Knowles & Annea Lockwood, 1975-8) including its recent re-publishing with Primary Information. Her interest in these areas emerged initially out of the DIY music community, starting with co-organising Ladyfest London in 2002, and she plays music with queer punk band Woolf.
