An au pair friend of mine sent me a DM asking if I could ask you guys for ideas on what would be the best farewell gifts for her to give her host-family so in today's video I am going to be sharing those with you all. Stay until the end to hear my favourite gift idea!

A farewell gift doesn't need to be big or expensive. After your time as an au pair the best kind of gift will be something personal. Something to show how much you've learned about your family and something which will always remind them of you.

One of the scariest steps in becoming an au pair is having the Skype interview with your potential host family. Maybe it should now be called the Zoom interview haha. You're probably pretty nervous and not sure what questions you need to ask them. Well I am here to help you out and make the whole interview process a little less stressful 😀

The questions are in order of most important to least important but they're definitely questions that need to be asked. I've been seeing more and more new au pairs starting their au pair adventures and I'm so glad to see the program slowly but surely going back to normal. It is the worst thing in the world when you realize that you have been scammed! In this video I show you a real life example of an au pair scam and tell you what to look out for to spot the scammers and ways to avoid being scammed.

Now here are some signs that the people who you are speaking to are trying to scam you: - They don't want to video call with you - They ask for money upfront - They say that they have "friends" who can help you get a visa or help you with the au pair application process - If there's typos or bad grammar in the conversations they have with you - They say you don't need an au pair agency - If something sounds too good to be true it usually is  I hope that it helps to educate and prevent anyone else falling victim to these au pair scams. Congratulations on wanting to take a gap year as an au pair! This video will explain step by step how to become an au pair in America and how to become an au pair in other countries. To be an au pair in America you need to join one of the 15 registered au pair agencies. But to au pair in other countries you need to join an au pair matching website.

The absolute best way of finding out about how a host-family is would be to ask the previous au pair. They have been there for a year and so they know how the family works and how everything runs in the house. I have made a list of the top 10 questions you as the new au pair, au pair who is extending with a new family or an au pair who is in rematch and trying to find a new host family needs to ask the previous/current au pair so that you can be prepared for your au pair experience. 

The host-family will only give you the contact details of the current au pair or previous au pair after they have spoken to you on your Skype interview and they are interested in you.  I hope that you enjoyed the video. Jarryd Wentzel AKA the Bropair is a 27 year-old South African who lived and worked in America as a male au pair. All au pairs are nervous and excited about their new adventure so it would be best try and accommodate them as much as possible. If you treat them well then it will be a better experience for everyone from the host kids to you the host parents. As a host family you want your new au pair to be as comfortable in your home as possible. This is going to be their new home for the next year or even two years so putting in the extra effort into making their bedroom and bathroom a pleasant experience will go a long way with them. They will also be able to brag to their new au pair friends that they have the best host family.

As an au pair in America you can extend your stay for an additional 6, 9 or 12 months. If you choose to extend your au pair program then it can be very difficult to decide if you should extend with your current host family or if you should go into rematch and find a new host family in a different state. There are pros and cons to both options and in this video I will give you information that will help you to make the right decision.
