Episode 83: Playoff Baseball in October at Yankees Stadium

America’s pastime plays a marathon of a season totaling 162 regular season games from April through September. The postseason starts in October and culminates in “The Fall Classic” known as the World Series between the two teams left standing each year. Baseball soars to another level during the month of October when a single pitch or a walk-off home run could be forever amortized in the record books and in the hearts of millions of baseball fans forever. This Brothers Brandt Podcast documents the uniqueness of Yankees Stadium, the famed history of the 27-time World Series Championship franchise and how special being at a post season baseball game is in the Bronx. In 2017, we witnessed Aaron Judge ignit a rousing rally with a home run, then doubled during a four-run eighth inning to spur the unflappable New York Yankees that season over the Houston Astros 6-4 to tie the American League Championship Series 2-2. Yankees Stadium was electric that night! The Astros would go on to win the series 4-3 and then defeat the Los Angeles Dodgers to win their first World Series in franchise history. Episode 81: Happy Valley - Penn State vs. Ohio State WHITE OUT EDITION

Episode 81: Happy Valley - Penn State vs. Ohio State WHITE OUT EDITION

Over 106,000 crazed college football enthusiasts packed into Beaver Stadium on October 27, 2012 for the Penn State vs Ohio State Halloween Weekend Big Ten match-up and The Brothers Brandt were there on that famed weekend in Happy Valley, Pennsylvania. While visiting childhood friends who were attending Penn State University, we crashed on the couch and took in one of the greatest environments in sports. It is called “THE WHITE OUT” when everyone in the stadium (cheering on Penn State) wears all white, shakes white pom-poms and waves white towels to drown out the hopes of their opponents. Structural engineers have been brought in over the years to confirm that when the stadium shakes during white outs it is still safe hahaha! This game in 2012 was called “the ineligible bowl” because both teams being undefeated at 9-0 heading into this game, both historic programs were under NCAA sanctions making them both barred from competing that season in any post season bowl games. You’re going to love this podcast episode!

Rick partied with the University of Miami alumni, spent the entire game on the sidelines and hung with Heisman Trophy winners Desmond Howard and Tim Tebow! Enjoy this epic podcast!

Episode 76: American Pharaoh & The Brandts Win The Haskell!!

The Brothers Brandt Podcast – Episode 76: American Pharaoh & The Brandts Win The Haskell!!

In 2015, legendary thoroughbred racehorse, American Pharaoh trained by Hall of Fame trainer Bob Baffert marched his way to a dominating performance in the Kentucky Derby, Preakness Stakes, and Belmont Stakes propelling him to become only the 12th horse to capture The Triple Crown! It ended a 37-year drought. American Pharaoh was featured on the cover of Sports Illustrated and Vogue magazine that summer. Some have said he was the greatest athlete of all-time (if you count horses). After winning the Triple Crown, his next race in 2015 was The William Hill Haskell Invitational at Monmouth Park in New Jersey where we grew up. Naturally, we attended this event in only a way The Brothers Brandt could. Bill Murray, Derek Jeter, the Governor of New Jersey and over 60,000 other patrons were on hand for the most memorable day in horse race history in the State of New Jersey. Needless to say, American Pharaoh on national television galloped his way to an impressive win that day and The Brothers Brandt made the most of our day at the historic Monmouth Park race track. Enjoy this epic story!

Episode 73: Texas NFL Double Header: Texans and Cowboys!

Episode 73: Texas NFL Double Header: Texans and Cowboys!

The boys are back a it again manifesting an incredible NFL double header on a beautiful opening Sunday of the season. This is wrapping up the most wild and epic sports road trip you have ever heard of! It's the final day and Rick and I are pouring sweat into this and all the energy we have to end it the way we started! This episode highlights our experience at a 1pm Houston Texans vs Jags game and then a Sunday Night 8pm Cowboys vs Giants in Jerry's World experience. In between these games we drove 3 hours and saw the Golden Ticket Bus which led us to meet The Godfather of Tickets himself... Ram Silverman. A friendship that is worth more than gold... just salt of the earth human.

This puts the cherry on top of our Epic Southwest 12 games in 9 days Road Trip where we started in Clemson, South Carolina seeing a 1pm Clemson Tigers Game, 4pm Georgia Bulldogs game, 8pm Alabama vs FSU game in one day. Monday we were back in the saddle seeing a Tennessee vs Georgia Tech game. Tuesday was a Braves Baseball game at the beautiful new stadium. We drove through the night to Tampa and watched a 1pm Rays game then skirted down to Miami to witness a 8pm Marlins game. We narrowly missed Super Storm Irma and hopped a flight out to Houston. Friday was a Texas Rangers game in Arlington. Saturday was a Texas College double header with a 12pm Longhorns game followed by a 6pm Texas A&M Aggies home game. And that leaves us to Sunday were we went to a 1pm Texans game and a 8pm Cowboys game... Whoa! We needed a vacation from the Vacation haha... it was a quest, a quest for fun and mission was accomplished! Unforgettable memories with my best bud!

Episode 72: College Football Double Header - Longhorns and Aggies Oh my!

Episode 72: College Football Double Header - Longhorns and Aggies Oh my!

Enjoy this epsiode as Rick and myself travel from Austin Texas to College Station in ONE DAY! The state of Texas is HUGE and filled with top tier college football programs. The stars aligned for this part of our trip. We were able to see the Texas Longhorns battle San Jose State at 12pm in beautiful downtown Austin. As the game was ending we bounced down to College Station which is about a 2-3 hour drive to watch Texas A&M against Northwest State. On paper it was a "warm up" game but the visitors that day did not think so. It was a much closer game than anticipate and gave the Aggies a scare. Overall, college football in Texas is borderline a religion and when you can manage two games in one day, you have to do it. Enjoy as Rick and I talk about our experiences and encourage you the listeners to do your own sports road trips.

Episode 71: The Golden Voice of Broadcasting - Verne Lundquist... YESSIR!!

Episode 71: The Golden Voice of Broadcasting - Verne Lundquist... YESSIR!!

On episode seventy-one of The Brothers Brandt Podcast, iconic sportscaster Verne Lundquist shares how a sports-loving kid from Duluth, Minnesota became the ‘Golden Voice’ of college football, college basketball, NFL, NBA, Olympic games, PGA Championships and our favorite, The Masters. Verne’s contagious enthusiasm has led him to become one of the most prominent and recognizable on-air talents in sports history. Verne has worked alongside our podcast friends Jim Nantz and Bill Raftery and also other legends such as John Madden and Pat Summerall to name just a few. One of Verne’s most well-known moments was when he starred as himself in the 1996 movie Happy Gilmore with Adam Sandler, one of the greatest sports movies ever in our opinion. In this podcast interview we ask Verne what it was like to be on the call for Duke’s Christian Laettner’s 1992 buzzer-beater, Jack Nicklaus’s 6th Masters victory in 1986. Tonya Harding's 1994 Winter Olympics figure skating debacle, and Tiger Woods’ 2005 improbable chip-in birdie on the 16th hole, when Verne famously said, “Here it comes...Oh, my goodness!...OH, WOW!! IN YOUR LIFE, have you seen anything like that?” This interview with The Brothers Brandt is a Hall of Fame one, just like Verne Lundquist himself. Enjoy!

Episode 67: A convo with The Soup Nazi: NO SOUP FOR YOU!!

Episode 67: A convo with The Soup Nazi: NO SOUP FOR YOU!!

Many consider “Seinfeld” to be the all-time greatest American sitcom in television history. It is our #1 favorite show and in our opinions nothing else comes close. It’s the “show about nothing” which was created by Larry David and Jerry Seinfeld. Nine-seasons of 180 episodes filled with hysterical humor originally aired on NBC from 1989 to 1998 and has since become one of the highest grossing television series in TV history with record-setting streaming deals on Hulu and Netflix, and re-run royalties on basic cable stations that are proving to last forever now several decades later. On the sixth episode of the seventh season titled the “The Soup Nazi” the character Yev Kassem, played by actor Larry Thomas had the acting performance of a lifetime and the perfectly-uttered, world-renown, strict-command “NO SOUP FOR YOU!” when yelling at his soup-stand-patrons. This four-word-phrase “No Soup For You” is one of the most popular known comedic sayings in show-business and around the world. People all over, who have never seen a single episode of the show Seinfeld can be heard jokingly saying Larry Thomas’ famous four words to friends. That’s how legendary Larry Thomas’ character “The Soup Nazi” was in one single episode in 1995. In fact, his performance as “The Soup Nazi” was so incredible he was nominated in 1996 for a Primetime Emmy Award for Most Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series. Larry has been in Super Bowl commercials, guest appeared in Arrested Development and Scrubs, He’s been acting for over thirty-five years and has utilized his famous soup role to promote soup kitchens for the homeless. This legendary actor, Larry Thomas graces us with his presence on this fun-filled podcast interview where we talk about soup (of course haha), Jerry Seinfeld, Larry David, Larry Tomas’ early years growing up in Brooklyn, New York, his acting career, what led him to this iconic role, and how these famous four words have changed his life forever. Enjoy this classic, comedic-conversation with one of our all-time Hollywood acting favorites, The Soup Nazi, himself!
