Welcome to the Changing Rooms blog and podcast. This podcast is dedicated to bringing the best possible conversations to PE teachers. Provoking, challenging and contemporary, we are here for your reflection time. Listen to or watch the show. Let us accompany you on your dog walk, commute or exercise session because we guarantee you that what we discuss is relevant in your PE lessons.
This week, I am delighted to welcome Thomas Derbyshire to the show for episode 2 of season 2. Thomas is a PE teacher who entered the profession via a less-than-typical route. Thomas was an LSA, supporting SEND students in lessons. After returning to university to qualify as a teacher, he worked as an LSA to fund himself. Now a teacher of PE and science, Thomas specialises in the support of SEND students in their learning process and is joining the show to discuss what this might look like in PE lessons.
Thomas is the deputy SENDco in his school and is currently studying towards his NASENCO and his NPQLT. A teacher going places with SEND provision at the forefront of his mind.

Happiness Factories Part 2 with Phil Mathe
Welcome to the Changing Rooms podcast. I am delighted to release series 2 episode 1 with Phil Mathe. Series two will feature four episodes all of which are focused on physical education learning and teaching. Look out for episode two coming very soon.
Phillip Mathe (pronounced math-ay) is an international PE teacher, senior leader and author. His first book “Happiness Factories” hits the Amazon listings in the coming days and I had the opportunity to sit down with him and talk and listen for an hour. This is always a privilege.
Phil’s show is a great listen and, indeed, must be listened to by any colleagues interested in physical education curriculum design and physical education teaching. Phil has put together the stories of over 20 physical educators from all over the world as well as sharing his own.
Happiness Factories is officially launched on Friday 28th October via John Catt Publications. If you are reading this post prior to that date, you can pre-order the book right now.
I urge colleagues to purchase Happiness Factories and, more, to share their views on social media of what Phil has provided. The PE sector needs people like Phil. We need authors to research, to write and to review and this happens when we, as a sector, engage with their work and give them the momentum to research more… to write more… to reflect more.
