255 Drunken Master 1 & 2 Live!
John and Steve just finished a livestream on two of Steve's favorite Kung Fu films, Jackie Chan's Drunken Master and Drunken Master 2 (Or Legend of the Drunken Master in the US) Drunken Master is the film that made Jackie Chan a star and for pure athleticism, inventiveness and number of fight scenes it simply can't be beat.  When Jackie Chan returned to the role of Wong Few-Hung 15 years later he might have lost a step in terms of physicality (all evidence to the contrary) but he has definitely gained in experience, resources and time. The fight choreography in this film is among the most brilliant, detailed and impressive ever put on film.  You can watch this live episode here. https://youtu.be/PRTwvDERlLU If you haven't seen these incredible films you can buy or stream it right here. https://amzn.to/3D5ZCqY https://amzn.to/3ET27h0 Don’t forget to support The Cine-Files at https://www.patreon.com/TheCineFiles and purchase any film we feature at https://www.cine-files.net Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/TheCineFilesPod/?ref=bookmarks John @therochasays Steve @srmorris The Cine-Files Twitter @cine_files Instagram thecinefilespodcast

This Sunday at 4PM Pacific Time on our YouTube channel, John and Steve will be discussing not just one Jackie Chan Classic but two. 1979's Drunken Master is the physical tour de force that made Jackie Chan a star and introduced the world to his brand of martial arts comedy. Returning to the same character 15 years later, Jackie brings a bigger budget, a refined sense of choreography and real filmmaking chops to this Martial Arts Masterpiece.  You can watch this live episode here.  https://youtu.be/PRTwvDERlLU If you haven't seen this incredible film you can buy or stream it right here. https://amzn.to/3D5ZCqY https://amzn.to/3ET27h0 Don’t forget to support The Cine-Files at https://www.patreon.com/TheCineFiles and purchase any film we feature at https://www.cine-files.net Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/TheCineFilesPod/?ref=bookmarks John @therochasays Steve @srmorris The Cine-Files Twitter @cine_files Instagram thecinefilespodcast

249 Stand and Deliver Live
To celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, The Outlaw, John Rocha is taking us back to 1988 to discuss one of his favorite films about an educational hero who, like The Outlaw's family, immigrated from Bolivia and made his mark in America. Jaime Escalante transformed the lives of thousands of students in East Los Angeles. His passion for education, unique teaching style and belief that his students could excel resulted in more students passing the AP Calculus test than any one thought possible. It's a great film and it led to an incredible conversation about education, privilege, Hollywood, and the world Hispanic Americans. 248 Breathless
One can argue that there is no more influential period in cinema than the French New Wave. Without it there is no cinematic revolution in the seventies. No Scorsese, Bogdanavich or Hal Ashby. Can there be a Reservoir Dogs or Quinten Tarantino without Jean Luc Godard? The odds are, the answer is no. And no other film exemplifies the French New Wave more completely than Jean Luc Godard's groundbreaking masterpiece, Breathless.  If you haven't seen this incredible film you can buy or stream it right here. https://amzn.to/3tdRtge Don’t forget to support The Cine-Files at https://www.patreon.com/TheCineFiles and purchase any film we feature at https://www.cine-files.net Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/TheCineFilesPod/?ref=bookmarks John @therochasays Steve @srmorris The Cine-Files Twitter @cine_files Instagram thecinefilespodcast

247 Duck Soup
There are many arguments about the funniest team in the history of cinema. There are die hard Laurel and Hardy fans. Some people love Abbot and Costello. Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis made some of the most successful comedies of all time and, of course, one cannot overlook the genius of Monty Python. Still, for the combination of physical comedy, brilliant wit and pure chaos it's tough to beat the Marx Brothers and for Max Brothers Movies, it's tough to beat the brilliant and irreverent Duck Soup.  If you haven't seen this incredible film you can buy or stream it right here. https://amzn.to/3yKx3wt Don’t forget to support The Cine-Files at https://www.patreon.com/TheCineFiles and purchase any film we feature at https://www.cine-files.net Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/TheCineFilesPod/?ref=bookmarks John @therochasays Steve @srmorris The Cine-Files Twitter @cine_files Instagram thecinefilespodcast

242 Ratatouille Part 1
It's hard to pick the strangest idea for a film to come out of Pixar studios; a garbage collecting robot? An old man who takes his house Up with a bunch of balloons? Or maybe it's that trip inside a little girl's brain? However, the story of a rat who dreams of becoming a great chef and  (Spoiler Alert) succeeds has got to be in the running.  And of course, we wouldn't dream of doing a Pixar movie without our resident animation expert MIchael Vogel to help us out.  If you haven't seen this incredible film you can buy or stream it right here. https://amzn.to/3zDhO9f Don’t forget to support The Cine-Files at https://www.patreon.com/TheCineFiles and purchase any film we feature at https://www.cine-files.net Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/TheCineFilesPod/?ref=bookmarks John @therochasays Steve @srmorris The Cine-Files Twitter @cine_files Instagram thecinefilespodcast

Ned Beatty and Network
It's no surprise to anyone that actors are often type cast in Hollywood. What is a surprise is that only a couple of years after Ned Beatty was humiliated in his first film, Deliverance, that he was cast as one of the most powerful and intimidating leaders in corporate America. 232 Moneyball Part 1
Back in January we asked you which movie from 2011 you wanted us to dig into first in 2021. Your answer, by the slimmest of possible margins, was Moneyball. Moneyball is as unlikely a movie as the A’s were to become a great team and yet it manages to be funny, heartfelt, and very thought provoking. 231 Transformers Live
Cine-Files Live has been a fantastic addition to the Cine-Files schedule for many reasons. 1. Steve & John get to talk about films they might not ever get to discuss on the regular show. (Ie. Transformers) 2. John gets to do what he does best. Hosting a show, interacting with the audience and keeping the whole thing running perfectly. 3. Steve doesn’t have to do any editing. (We can’t begin to tell you how happy this makes him.) 4. Cine-Files LIve gives John and Steve a chance to interact with all of you. 230 Being There
The 1979 film Being There, directed by Hal Ashby and starring Peter Sellers, Shirley MacLaine, Melvin Douglas and Jack Warden is an odd, quirky, funny and surprising film about a, not very bright, gardener who ends up friend to the richest man in the world and advisor to the President of the United States. Is it a religious parable, a condemnation of the rich, a statement about the human race's fundamental foolishness or simply a really funny movie? 226 The Remains of the Day Part 2
Not one but two of our Cine-Files Patrons chose, the 1993 Merchant/Ivory drama The Remains of the Day for John and Steve to review and we are thrilled that they did. With incredible performances from Anthony Hopkins, Emma Thompson, James Fox, Christopher Reeve and Hugh Great, Remains of the Day is as powerful as it is restrained. (It also happens to be very funny for those with a particualarly dark sense of humor. It stars, Richard Burton, Elizabeth Taylor, Sandy Denis and of course George Segal. With 13 Oscar Nominations and and 5 wins it is one of the most honored films of all time. We also were thrilled to welcome to the microphone, actress Kathleen Early who acted in the national touring production of the play and worked directly with playwright, Edward Albee.

Hal Holbrook & All The President's Men (Revisited)
WARNING: If you hate when The Cine-Files gets political, then, this podcast isn't for you. A few days ago we lost the great Hal Holbrook, an actor who has been a mainstay of Theater, TV and Film for more than seven decades. He is most known for two things, the decades he devoted to his iconic portrayal of Mark Twain and a the portrayal of a man who only appears in the dark shadows of an empty parking lot, Deep Throat.  It is that performance in the brilliant, All The President's Men, that we are revisiting today. This episode was originally recorded in April of 2017 and it's no surprise that, in light o everything that's happened since then, Steve and John have a lot to say about journalism, democracy and the devaluation of truth.  If you haven't seen this incredible film you can buy or stream it right here. https://amzn.to/3ayQ76Q Don’t forget to support The Cine-Files at https://www.patreon.com/TheCineFiles and purchase any film we feature at https://www.cine-files.net Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/TheCineFilesPod/?ref=bookmarks John @therochasays Steve @srmorris The Cine-Files Twitter @cine_files Instagram thecinefilespodcast

Cloris Leachman & Young Frankenstein (Revisited)
Cloris Leachman was a working actor for seven decades. She starred on Broadway and the golden age of television in the late forties and fifties. She won an academy award for one of the seminal movies of new cinema, Peter Bogdanavich's The Last Picture Show. She turned in unbelievably funny performances in three of Mel Brooks' greatest films and she created one of the most beloved and indelible characters in Television history with Phyllis. And all of that was in the first three decades of her career.  So now, we return to the earliest days of The Cine-Files with our 9th episode, Mel Brooks' tribute to the James Whale classic Young Frankenstein.  If you haven't seen this incredible film you can buy or stream it right here. https://amzn.to/3tq8inJ Don’t forget to support The Cine-Files at https://www.patreon.com/TheCineFiles and purchase any film we feature at https://www.cine-files.net Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/TheCineFilesPod/?ref=bookmarks John @therochasays Steve @srmorris The Cine-Files Twitter @cine_files Instagram thecinefilespodcast

The Godfather is, without question, one of the most eagerly anticipated movies in the history of The Cine-Files and that's not surprising. To say that Steve and John approached this masterpiece with trepidation is an understatement but, the fact is, the conversation they had was so much fun that it will probably end up being the longest exploration of a film in the history of the podcast (at least, that is, until they move on to The Godfather Part 2) If you haven't seen this incredible film you can buy or stream it right here. https://amzn.to/3oslx4h Don’t forget to support The Cine-Files at https://www.patreon.com/TheCineFiles and purchase any film we feature at https://www.cine-files.net Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/TheCineFilesPod/?ref=bookmarks John @therochasays Steve @srmorris The Cine-Files Twitter @cine_files Instagram thecinefilespodcast

Well here it is, the epic conclusion of our three part exploration of Marvel's Black Panther in honor of Chadwick Boseman with special guests Jay Washington and Winston A. The Adventures of Robin Hood and a Tribute to Olivia de Haviland
She was a star in the Golden Age of Hollywood. Her first role was in Max Reinhardt's A Midsummer Nights Dream in 1935. She signed a deal with Warner Brothers and appeared in some of their most important films of the thirties including Captain Blood and, of course, The Adventures of Robin Hood. Her role has Melanie in Gone with the Wind brought her her first Oscar nomination. She lost that year to Hattie McDaniel but that didn't stop her form winning two Oscars later in her career. Her name was Olivia de Haviland and with her death at the age of 104 we've lost our last living connection to the Golden Age of Hollywood. To Honor her, John and Steve have recorded a new introduction to one of their favorite episodes, The Adventures of Robin Hood with special guest, Joe Mantegna.  If you haven't seen this incredible film you can buy or stream it right here. https://amzn.to/3hTyErA Don’t forget to support The Cine-Files at https://www.patreon.com/TheCineFiles and purchase any film we feature at https://www.cine-files.net Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/TheCineFilesPod/?ref=bookmarks John @therochasays Steve @srmorris The Cine-Files Twitter @cine_files Instagram thecinefilespodcas

Politics and Art
So, this was supposed to be just another ordinary week for The Cine-Files; release a short to our supporters on Patreon on Wednesday and then our usual breakdown of a film on Friday, but nothing has been normal about this week. Strangely, the short, which was recorded before the world went crazy was on the relationship between politics and art. It was a good discussion but Steve and John's feelings about that topic has changed over the last few days. The subject of politics and art suddenly seemed much more important. They both felt a lot of passion and more than a little anger.  The episode you are about to hear is the result.  So, if you don't like hearing politics discussed in your Cine-Files episodes you might want to skip this one and come back next week, but sometimes artists, writers, actors and even podcasters feel a need to speak.
