Summary

This is a phishing campaign that targets individuals during the month of Ramadan using WhatsApp messages. The attack begins with a message from a contact that contains a link to a fraudulent website posing as a competition organized by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, offering cash prizes for answering questions about Islam.

The fraudulent website then tricks users into providing their personal information, such as full name, gender, country, and mobile number, under the guise of claiming their prize. The website also requests users to share the link with their contacts on WhatsApp, further spreading the phishing campaign.

Cyber Attack on Bayyinah TV (English)

Cyber Attack on Bayyinah TV (English)

The Clear Evidence

Table of contents

Bayyinah TV was hacked recently, which caused the subscribers to experience a phishing attack.

Phishing Email Analysis
  • Date: 26th September 2022
  • Sender Email Address: Bayyinah – noreply@bayyinah.tv – This is the official email address of Bayyinah TV.
  • Subject: Bayyinah TV
  • Email Body: The email used the same email template as the official Bayyinah TV emails.
The email mentioned the correct full names of the recipients in the email body.
The email contained a short URL, which led to a malicious URL.
  • The phishing email was well constructed with no spelling or grammatical mistakes. It was very difficult for the common recipient to suspect it as a phishing email.
Rectification

On 29th September 2022, The Bayyinah TV Team sent an email to its subscribers, informing them that Bayyinah’s email was hacked and they have now secured their systems. No further details were provided. Nothing about this attack was posted on their social profiles. The Short URL has been blocked.

Reactions

Subscribers have reported receiving the phishing email and some clicked on the link.

Hack Analysis

It looks like the hacker got access to Bayyinah’s email marketing service. It is possible that he made a copy of the full names and email addresses of all Bayyinah subscribers during this hack. If more information about the subscribers was stored in the Bayyinah’s email marketing service then that could have been copied as well. If this is the case then Bayyinah should declare it and inform the subscribers to stay vigilant for phishing attempts in the future.

Recommendations
  • If you have clicked on the short URL then scan your system with a good antivirus for any possible presence of a malware.
  • If you downloaded anything from that URL then remove it from your devices.
  • Stay vigilant for any further phishing emails. If the hacker was able to copy your information from Bayyinah’s email marketing service then it could be available on the dark web by now and could be used by the same or other hackers in the future to target you.

Entry in Makkah City on Personal Transportation Stops from 2nd April for the Month of Ramadan (English)

Entry in Makkah City on Personal Transportation Stops from 2nd April for the Month of Ramadan (English)

The Clear Evidence

The following text was published on 2nd April 2022:

The citizens/residents of Saudi Arabia, performing Umrah, are not allowed to enter Makkah city on personal transportation from Saturday, 2nd April 2022 (1st Ramadan 1443H) till Eid ur Fitr, to manage traffic in Makkah city during the month of Ramadan.

Car parks (also known as Hajj parking) have been arranged on all major routes to Makkah. An official shuttle bus service is available from all car parks to Haram. The cost of the ticket per person is SAR 18.4. Tickets can be purchased while entering the parking.

This restriction applies to anyone in Ahram thus the people without Ahram can still enter Makkah. This was a common practice until the month of Ramadan in 2019 but had to be changed in 2020 due to COVID.

Although this method is mandatory for managing traffic in Makkah, it is not very convenient for people with luggage going to hotels or people in a wheelchair. Be careful not to try to bypass these checkpoints as people have been penalized for doing that.

The buses from Haram for returning to parking might not be available during the prayer times.

Audio Book: Rulings about Slaughter (Eid Sacrifice) - Second Edition (English)

Audio Book: Rulings about Slaughter (Eid Sacrifice) - Second Edition (English)

The Clear Evidence

First Ten Days of Dhul-Hijjah:

Allah has sworn by the first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah in the Quran (By the Dawn. By the ten nights (i.e. the first ten days of the month of Dhul-Hijjah) Sura Al-Fajr, Verses: 1-2). This shows that the first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah are of great importance in Islam. The important rite of Hajj i.e. ‘Wuqufe Arafah’ is also performed in these ten days, which is the day of acquiring the greatest blessings of Allah. Thus, after Ramadan, there is the best chance to attain the success in the Hereafter in these days.

Therefore, in these days, worship Allah as much as you can, do His Zikr, observe fast and offer sacrifice. There are special virtues of worshipping in these days which are mentioned in Ahadith, out of which I am describing some Ahadith below:

❖ It is reported from Abdullah bin Abbas (RA) that the Prophet (PBUH) said: “On no other days are good deeds more liked by Allah than on these ten days (i.e. the first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah).” (Sahih Bukhari)

❖ It is reported from Abdullah bin Abbas (RA) that the Prophet (PBUH) said: “No other days are considered more virtuous by Allah than these ten days, therefore, you should recite Tasbeeh-o-Tehleel and Takbeer-o-Tahmeed in abundance.” (Tabraani)

❖ In these days, everyone should try to recite Takbeer-e-Tashreeq as much as possible. The kalimaat (wordings) of Takbeer-e-Tashreeq are: Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar La Ilaha Illallahu Wallahu Akbar Allahu Akbar Wa lillahil Hamd.

Fasting on the Day of Arafah:

Hazrat Qatadah (May Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet Muhammad ( صل الله ع ي لل ل ) said: “I am strongly hopeful that Allah will forgive the sins of one year before and one year after for those who observe fast on the day of Arafah. (Muslim)

The above Hadith clearly states that fasting on the day of Arafah leads to the forgiveness of sins of one year before and one year after. Therefore, we should pay especial heed towards fasting on the 9th of Dhul-Hijjah. But the question arises as to whether the people of India and Pakistan should fast on the 9th day of Dhul-Hijjah according to their calendar or according to Saudi Arabia on the day of Hajj. Generally, there is difference of one day in the lunar calendar between Saudi Arabia and India and Pakistan. First of all, I would say that many Hadiths mention the special virtue of fasting between the first Dhul-Hijjah and the 9th Dhul-Hijjah. So, the best option is to fast on both days. But if a person wants to observe only one fast, then there is a difference of opinion among the jurists and scholars as to which day the fast should be observed. Since there are different opinions, it is permissible to follow any of the two views, because fasting on the day of 'Arafah is not obligatory. It is Masnoon. Our scholars believe that the people of India and Pakistan should fast on the 9th day according to their regional calendar, because like Eidul-Fitr, Eidul-Adha and Ashura, we should follow the regional calendar for fasting on the day of Arafa. However, instead of arguing over this issue, we should be flexible and should not try to impose one’s opinion on other. It worth to mention that since the migration of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and his companions to Madinah, the Muslims could not perform Hajj due to the occupation of Makkah by the infidels.

US has been Found Spying on Muslims Again through Prayer Apps on Android (English)

US has been Found Spying on Muslims Again through Prayer Apps on Android (English)

The Clear Evidence

A data collection code has been found in several Muslim Prayer Apps on the Google Play Store, which was used to spy on Millions of ordinary Muslims around the world. These apps included Al-Moazin Lite (Prayer Times) and Qibla Compass – Ramadan 2022 with over 15 Million downloads.

The apps were collecting rich data including precise location information, email and phone numbers and passwords when users used a “cut and paste” feature. The SDK could also view hashed data from WhatsApp image folders and even pull data about nearby computers and mobile devices, potentially mapping out who people meet with on a regular basis.

The code was added by a Panamanian company Measurement Systems, which is linked to a Virginia defense contractor, that does cyberintelligence work network-defense and intelligence-intercept work for US agencies. Measurement Systems paid developers around the world to incorporate its code. Measurement Systems claimed developers could earn anywhere from $100 to $10,000 per month as long as they delivered enough users with apps accessing location data.

The two researchers who found this code, considered the code to be the most privacy-invasive SDK they have seen in the six years they have been examining mobile apps. They said that without a doubt it should be described as malware.

After this finding, Google removed these apps from the Google Play Store on 25th March 2022. But the apps will be allowed back on the store when the spying code is removed. This means, there won’t be any legal actions against any of the involved parties and similar apps can potentially use similar techniques in the future, amid no fear.

This is not the first time the US has been found spying on ordinary Muslims around the globe. Back in November 2020, the US was found purchasing location data of Muslims from the Muslim Pro app, with over 98 Million users. It is among the most famous apps used by ordinary Muslims.

Although the US government makes a huge hue and cry against China, Russia, Iran, North Korea, etc., but again and again they have been found using similar techniques to spy on ordinary people and intrude on user privacy to ensure modern slavery.

It’s a reminder to all Muslims to be careful as they are being monitored 24/7 by even so called democratic governments.

Impact of Your Negative Emotions on Your Children - Nauman Khan (English)

Impact of Your Negative Emotions on Your Children - Nauman Khan (English)

The Clear Evidence

Corporate world and soft skills training teaches us the importance of feedback. Using this learning, I asked my 5 year old what he disliked about me the most.

He responded spontaneously, “when you and mother argue about something”.

I asked him again if there was anything else he disliked about me, he responded, “when you scold me and it’s not my fault, that makes me angry”.

I asked again but there was nothing else he disliked about me. I appreciated and thanked him for his responses.

Before taking this feedback, I was expecting a complaint about my busyness; that I was unable to play and spend enough time with him but that did not come out to be an issue. He somehow, at this age, understood my time limitations. He only complained about my negative emotions, which were in my hands, which I could change.

My wife and I hardly argue and I scold my son extremely rarely but still, these had the biggest negative impact on his life. I cannot even begin to imagine how badly those children’s brains are affected, whose parents argue/fight regularly or who scold their children just because they can.

I encourage you all to take feedback from your children. Ask them what they dislike the most about you? This should not lead to discussing the answers or clarifying your position. Just take the feedback and ponder over it in your spare time.

Let me and everyone know what you found out, we might find a pattern that can help us all.

Rulings on Iddat / Iddah (Waiting Period) – Dr. Mohammad Najeeb Qasmi (English)

Rulings on Iddat / Iddah (Waiting Period) – Dr. Mohammad Najeeb Qasmi (English)

The Clear Evidence

A lady asked:

Can you please share some information (in the light of Quran’O Hadith) regarding Iddat both in case of Khula and in case of Talaq? Will be thankful to you.

Answer by Dr. Mohammad Najeeb Qasmi

Issues of Iddat (Waiting Period)

Meaning of Iddat: literally, the meaning of “Iddat” is to count, whereas “Iddat” in the Islamic Shari’ah, is a fixed period within which the wife, due to the death of her husband, or divorce/repudiation (redemption) that results in the separation of both the spouses, is bound to observe some legitimate provisions. Owing to difference in natural conditions of a woman, waiting period is varied, whose detailed discussion is mentioned below.

Legal Status of Iddat (Waiting period): In the light of the Qur’an and Sunnah, the Muslim Ummah is agreed that because of death of husband, or divorce or repudiation (redemption) and consequently being husband and wife separated, Iddat (waiting period) is obligatory (enjoinment) on the wife.

The waiting period is obligatory for two reasons:
  1. Death of husband:
  2. Divorce or (Repudiation) Redemption:Iddat (waiting period) is the pursuit of pleasure and contentment of Allah the Exalted. As, because the obedience of Allah’s commands is worship and worship is a means for nearing to Allah.
The most important purpose for enjoinment of Iddat is to ascertain the fact that there is no effect of the former husband in the uterus, so that no doubt should be there in the child’s ancestry.
Since marriage is a great blessing of Allah, this is why, upon its breakage, Iddat (waiting period) becomes due.
For knowledge and cognition of lofty goal of marriage, Iddat has been obligated, so that it is not considered a child’s play by a man.
Due to the death of husband, a gap and vacuum which is created in the home and family, Iddat is made obligatory for wife to keep his remembrance for some more time.

In case, the wife is not pregnant and her husband dies, then her Iddat (waiting period) will be 4 months and 10 days, whether she is menstruating or not, whether she has genuine sexual intercourse or not, as Allah the Almighty says in the holy Qur’an: وَالَّذيْنَ يُتَوَفَّوْنَ مِنْكُمْ وَ يَذَرُوْنَ أَزْواَجاً يَّتَرَبَّصْنَ بِاَنْفُسِهِنَّ أَرْبَعَةَ أَشْهُرٍ وَّ عَشْراً And those who are taken in death among you and leave wives behind – they, (the wives, shall) wait four months and ten (days). (Baqarah 234).

If the wife is pregnant at the time of her husband’s death, then the waiting period will end upon the delivery of the baby, whether its period would be less than four months and ten days or more than that. As Allah the Exalted said in the holy Qur’an: وَأُوْلاَتُ الأَحْمَالِ أَجَلُهُنَّ أَنْ يَّضَعْنَ حَمْلَهُنَّ (al-Talaq: 4), and for those who are pregnant, their term is until they give birth.
